I've been several times, and the food I've gotten has been great. Spoke with the owner on one of my visits. Was very knowledgeable and we exchanged some great stories. I haven't eaten in, but the interior isn't massive. More well suited to pop by for something quick, or otherwise bring home whatever you grab. The pork pie is great if you like a Canadian style, and every sweet baked good I've had has been killer. Old school bakeries like this aren't a dime a dozen anymore, this one is worth the visit in my opinion. read more

Small dark bakery with limited choices - expensive and person that waited on me was very unhappy and unhelpful

I was in Derry nearby and was craving a muffin. And a muffin I got. It was a 3 berry & yogurt muffin. Very moist and tasty. I waited till I got home to enjoy it with some cold brew coffee I made. I also bought 2 other things: a piece of frosted carrot cake, and a chocolate/peanut butter & raspberry pastry bar thing. The latter was meh, but the carrot cake was ON POINT. It has little bits of coconut for sweetness and the frosting wasn't too thick or cream-cheesy. Got all that for $10 or so. I would go back if I were in the area. read more

My wife uses them for her jobs events, and always had great reviews from the employees and management. On my birthday I wanted lemon cupcakes, and they were Delicious! On my wife birthday I recently ordered a triple chocolate cake with a gnash coating, and you would think it would be to much chocolate, but no it was great. Nothing leftover. Blackberry Bakery is now in Londonderry at 44 Nashua Rd. New hours (as of this review) are Closed Mondays, Open Tue-Fri at 5am!!! Great for those using the Park & Ride across the way to get into Boston and other points south. Sat 7am-7pm and Sun 9am-3pm. They truly have such good food, friendly staff, and free wi-fi :) Don't let the facade fool you! This is not a stuck-up and pretentious over-priced bakery. This was my second visit today. I tried a truly delicious, soft cinnamon twist with a sugar glaze drizzle and lots of toasted walnuts ($1.75), a crumble-top lemon muffin ($1.50), and their Sumatran coffee (carafes) provided by A&E Roastery (an award-winner, for I believe, $1.75 ). They have a small seating area with comfy chairs and a little electric hearth that is warm & inviting. The decor is simple and homey with rich warm blackberry colored walls and a cute hand-painted mural on the wall by the coffee bar and seating. I have to give a shout-out to Valerie who is one of the nicest and most personable front end people I have encountered in New Hampshire. Not to say that there aren't nice people, but a lot of them are still a bit aloof. Not Valerie! She served me both times and she never had anything but a big smile and a happy attitude. A breath of fresh air in our normally reserved NH people! As a side note, they also offer cake decorating classes for those of us who fancy ourselves as closet bakers :) Today they had an array of cookies, pastries, cupcakes, cakes, coffee rolls, and muffins. Their look-books of cakes shows that they can do some really gorgeous special-occasion cakes as well. I grew up with my family owning a very popular local bakery in Rhode Island, and my wife is a great baker, so i am pretty picky in regards to bakeries. This place is nothing special at all. First of all, the service was flat at best - it felt a little like we were bothering her being there. Overall, her she had about as much personality as the box our cupcakes were put in. We got two muffins and two cupcakes. The muffins - one lemon, one chocolate chip - were good, but not amazing. Both could have used just about a minute or so more in the oven - they weren't undercooked, but just didn't have as much flavor as they could have. The cupcakes... let's start off with the better of the two. The "death by chocolate" cupcake is a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream on top and dipped in chocolate, with a chocolate pudding filling. Overall, it was hardly deadly. Maybe more like "bad cut by chocolate" or "badly bruised by chocolate." The cake was average - not too moist, but not dry. The chocolate buttercream and chocolate coating (maybe ganache, but if it was, it wasn't great) were passable. But then, between the cake and the buttercream was this chocolate pudding, which was pretty much a cheap imitation Jell-O pudding type of thing that had gotten congealed and kinda spongy. I ended up not eating the pudding because of the texture and it sat there on the plate afterwards, in all its gelatinous glory. The other cupcake was a tiramisu cupcake, which my wife chose because she loves tiramisu. She got two bites in and stopped, declaring that the frosting tasted like cheap donut creme filling. I tried a bite and she was being generous - I would say that the cupcake tasted like how the inside of a donut shop smells - stale coffee and slightly greasy and sweet. Good bakeries are hard to find, and if you're looking for one, this Blackberry may be a place to start, but it isn't the end, that's for sure. read more

I've been a long-time patron of the famed Frederick's Pastries bakery for all of my NH pastry needs, and only recently have I deviated from that path for cupcakes, birthday cakes, etc. But wow, am I ever glad I did. I've recently had their chocolate mousse cake, which was rich, delicious, and possibly the most moist cake I've ever eaten. It was a towering torte of chocolatey goodness, and it was so good I had to sit down after my first bite. A perfect chocolate mousse cake. Their cupcakes are moist and piled high with freshly-made frosting too, and come in a bunch of different styles. Every bite of their Oreo Cupcake was just freakin' awesome, for the lack of a better description, and their Strawberry Shortcake cupcake had fresh strawberries inside!. After being spoiled on Frederick's, Mike's Pastries, Bova's, and other North End joints over the past 10 years, I never thought I'd find a rival down the street from my childhood home. We stopped by for an afternoon coffee and pastry on our way to Derry. The place was quiet. The employee was out back and unseen, but she verbally acknowledged that she knew we were in the store. She came out a few minutes later, and asked how she could help us. I told her that we wanted to drink coffee and eat a bakery item, but we had not decided on a bakery item. The employee tried her best to be friendly, but her face spoke volumes. It was obvious that we were interfering with her work out back. She disappeared to the back while we helped ourselves to the slightly warm coffee. Once we decided on a bakery item, I rang the bell on the counter to summons the employee. She came out within a few seconds and took our order with the same unenthusiastic demeanor that we were being a nuisance. Well, all the world's problems can be resolved with a nice sweet bakery item - but not here! The eclairs, as described by a fellow Yelper, "was stale with completely flavorless pastry cream," and the filling in the fruit squares was hard and inedible. God awful! Should have known by how the place was a literal ghost town! Wasted 30 minutes driving there, time and gas! Place looks dirty and unorganized. Lady just stares at you the entire time your looking through the selection. Pastries taste funky, old and nothing remotely close to how they should taste. Got 3 different pastries and literary spit it out, rinsed my mouth out and threw it in the trash and just chalked up the entire experience to a bad decision! I recently ordered a dozen cupcakes for my younger brothers 4th Birthday to bring into his class. I called the order in asked them to put a t-rex or the dinosaur with a long neck on it. The next day they called to let me know that the price for a dozen cupcakes was going to be $39.00, thats $3.25 per cupcake. I said ok, realizing its a specialty order and hoping they would be worth it. To my dissapointment these "dinosaurs" looked like alligators or some sort of dragon monster. Very creative and I appreciate the artistic effort. But I was even more dissapointed when his WHOLE class said they were not dinosaurs. Now these are a group of 4 year olds if they are even disappointed by it what else can I say? This was not actually the reason I gave the bakery one star. I called and spoke with John, no idea if he is the manager/owner/baker. All he could say to me that only one of them originally thought they looked like alligators. That it was up to interpretation and hopefully I'd come back. I was annoyed at his "too bad" attitude. I appreciate the time & work that went into the cupcakes and the cake decorator making an effort but clearly I was unhappy and "John" didn't care much to do anything about it. I've been to the bakery a few times before and have been waited on by a rude older woman. She never says "hello" or any sort of greeting when you enter. Any inquiries are usally answered in a rude short manner, almost as if she is upset that a customer would not know everything already. In short the bakers may be kind and try their best but the managment staff lacks something sweet. I'll stick with Klemms Bakery 437-8810 in Windham. Always reasonably priced, courteous, and cares about satisfying their customers. read more

Picked up an occasion cake today that I ordered last minute. I described to the young lady over the telephone a specific design and color I had in mind and I am pleased to say that not only did Blackberry Bakery nail the look I wanted but they far exceeded my expectations - they added bit of glitter on a crescent moon that nicely enhanced my vision :-) I have been going to this bakery for a year or so, the cakes are so good - moist, tasty and fresh. The selection behind the cases is varied and there is even a small area to sit and have a coffee and fresh danish or other scrumptious looking treat! During a family gathering I got the opportunity to try the best strawberry cake with whipped frosting ever! I had to find this place, I make it a habit now of stopping by during each trip to enjoy their variety of amazing pastries. The pastries were good, we had some sort of raspberry cream puff turnover. The prices were reasonable. The coffee wasn't anything too special. The service was good, they are very nice. I've been here twice and generally enjoyed what I purchased-a large vanilla cupcake and a TV bar-a rectangular cake with vanilla buttercream frosting covered with chocolate ganache. I went to the Blackberry Bakery in Londonderry today (12/16/2010) as I was a big fan of their Derry shop for several years. However this experience was much different. The woman behind the counter seems slightly upset when I asked if I can get couple of cookies to go or is their a minimum. She replied very abruptly that she would still have to weigh them. I said fine. She then proceeded to reach for a couple of cookies with her hand which I noticed was inside a food service glove, the very same one she was wearing when she made change for the previous customers. She did not use the tongs or any utensil. She then handed me my cookies, gave me some change and turned her attention to another customer with all the retail charm required to keep a store like this in business. Did I mention that she used that same hand with the glove to fix her hair before she helped me with my order? I fail to understand the point of the glove ia she has transfers every germ and dirt from her hair, the cash register and the money to my cookies. I dropped the cookies in the trash bin outside the store. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back there again. read more

My search for a gluten bakery lead me here off the main drag in Londonderry. I called ahead and was pleased to hear the plentiful varieties of gluten free pastries and pies available. The associate was very nice, and the prices are quite reasonable. But this is why I gave only 2 stars: When I got there I was taken back by the appearance inside the store, it was dark, gloomy and I could see the cloth wall in the baking section behind the counter. It didn't seem clean or something professional. I don't know if they are not fully finished renovating or not, but it wasn't screaming "I'm a business". Next I noticed the placement of the gluten free items in the same cooler (next to, under or surrounded by) with gluten items. I asked and they said that there is a possibility of cross contamination because they make the items relatively close to the same place they use flower, they said they are careful of not getting gluten on the items. But at least I would of thought they keep in in a separate cooler. So that knocked off one star. Plus another star off for extreme cross contamination (they might as well of used flower to knee the gluten free dough). The other problem was that this is another bakery which uses way too much sugar. I could barely handle on cupcake. Don't get me wrong, it may be this batch of cupcakes and the taste was amazing, but there was way too much sugar in the batter. This may be nitpicking, but I have had gluten free pastries that wasn't made with an absorbent amount of sweetener. Another star for that. All in all, this place is good if you have a light intolerance for gluten and you want to be pounded by sweet things. read more

We ordered a sheet cake for a 50th birthday and it was outstanding. White cake, raspberry filling and butter-creme, so many people said it was the best they had ever tasted. Bought a traditional chocolate birthday cake, and I hate to say, but it was one of the worst cakes I've ever had. No one even wanted to finish their slice, and we ended up tossing nearly all of it. The chocolate flavor tasted almost artificial, and there was a weird aftertaste. I might be willing to try some of their other items, but with so many other places to go for baked goods in the area, I probably won't be going back here. I take the bus from Londonderry to Boston and received a flyer from Blackberry Bakery that was left on my car at the nearby park and ride lot. The flyer mentioned that they opened at 5:00 am Tues-Fri. I decided to try a muffin and coffee and walked in at 6:00. At 6:08 I walked out to catch my bus as NO ONE came out to help me - I called out "Hello" multiple times, loudly, and heard someone in the back but I received no response, not even a 'wait-a-minute".
