James, the manager, was also amazing! He is friendly, fair, and helped me understand what I was dealing with. As a woman, it is so comforting being able to trust a stranger about a subject I know nothing about. Seeing that they fixed it promptly and only what was needed also added to that comfort. I was worried that I would walk out of there with them telling me that my car needed more work than what it actually needed. That was not the case, the men were honest and knowledgeable. A couple of weeks ago, my husband took his car in for an oil change. While it was there, the staff told him the valve cover gasket needed to be replaced. They also told him that there was some sort of film on the brake pads that was probably causing the noise we'd been hearing since he had his brake job done there a few months ago. We were disappointed to find that there was no one left working there that we had been working with over the last several months. This location has had at least 3 staff leave in the 6 or so months that we've been coming to them. My husband had his oil changed and the valve cover gasket replaced. They ordered new brakes on the warranty and that was fine. He planned to bring the car back the next day to have the brakes taken care of. The next day as he was leaving work to take his car in for the brakes, my husband noticed that there was a significant amount of oil leaking into the pavement under his car. He was not happy and when he got to the shop, he let them know he was aggravated with the situation. When I told the mechanic that it was partly a matter of the time it was taking to have to keep bringing the car back in for things that should have been taken care of already, he made the comment that it was inconvenient for them as well. Not a great response. They lifted the hood and there was oil everywhere; they had installed a part that turned out to be faulty. They did replace that part without charge. My husband waited there all day to find out that the brake parts they ordered were the wrong ones. He had them put his car back together and he had to return a third day to get the work completed. Three days later, having gone in for a simple oil change, we left $600 lighter (and this place has gotten literally thousands of dollars of our money over the last few months) his brakes are still making noises. We found out that this particular store is used as a training site for managers and mechanics, which is the reason we've gone through 3 people we trusted in such a short amount of time. I'm disappointed as I thought I finally found a place to take my car that I could trust and it seems that I was wrong. Trust is a huge issue for me as the people in my life who were car savvy are no longer with us. Two stars because they did fix work on warranties as they should of. Three stars gone because it took 3 days and at least one issue still isn't right. I've recommended and brought customers to them over the last several months and I'm not going to be doing that anymore. I think it's time to find a new shop. Very disappointed. read more

Came in with a frozen AC pulley that was heavily wearing out the belt, causing a gnarly squealing noise. They replaced the pulley and belt in under 2 hours, and changed my oil in that time as well! Donald at the front desk was really helpful and didn't condescend to me at all (unlike the guy at RooPair I spoke with over the phone). Didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need, just performed the fixes I approved and sent me on my way. Definitely coming back here next time I need maintenance done! read more

A $75 oil change turned into over $1500+ service and repair on my truck. I am certain that if I took my truck somewhere else instead of here, this problem could have been avoided. Never again. I just moved to Tacoma at the Beginning of August. Usually I get my truck serviced by the dealership, because it's free for me, but since the light came on, I just decided, why not just get it in somewhere that I live near. Shouldn't be a big deal right? Well, after going into Bucky's, they did a pre-inspection with my oil change, and they gave me a call, with their concerns about having to replace my serpentine belt, & said they would get it done the same day. I appreciated the fact they called me before the oil change was done, so I could get the maintenance done, without having to worry in the future about it, so I agreed. Within 72 hours of driving my truck, my belt started squealing, enough to cause concern, so I went back to Bucky's to get it checked out. They inspected the engine, and said that I needed ANOTHER oil change because of the code it was giving. That doesn't make sense. (Mind you, completely disregarded the fact my belt broke) I JUST came in to get my oil change, and now they're saying I need another oil change? At this point I'm sure I'm not the only one that wouldn't trust this mechanic shop, so to be safe, I took my truck to another shop that is nearby to get it checked. The other shop said, my ac belt broke. I explained to the shop I just got my serpentine belt & oil changed at bucky's. The serpentine belt & a/c belt are connected on the same loop so therefore whoever changed the serpentine belt, it is very likely somehow touched/damaged the a/c belt while uninstalled/reinstalled the serpentine belt. It was caught in the crank shaft and broke which resulted in my truck leaking. If I were to continue driving and working, with all the oil leaking out, it would have eventually seized my engine. Frustrated & upset, I went back to Bucky's because I wanted to see if they would make things right, after all their slogan is "doing it right the first time since 1970". I was adamant on the fact that I need my truck for work, and only when I expressed my concern did they finally say they will do a quick inspection and see what's going on, after at first telling me they couldn't get me in. They insisted I leave my truck here, so I complied & left. After an hour, I get a call from them verifying exactly what the other shop told me- the A/C belt got stuck in the crank shaft and snapped. The odd thing is, when I asked for an estimate & official inspection report on this, they refused to give it to me. That's when they said they didn't do anything on the A/C Belt and can't warranty / recover the damages done to my truck, the cost would be separate, but I would still need it to be done. Even more frustrated, I took my claim to BBB and corporate, and after a few weeks they finally returned my concerns over BBB messaging, saying they would not cover it. At that point, I am done with Bucky's. I took my truck elsewhere to get the work done because how can I trust them after running me in circles. I will never recommend or bring my truck into this Bucky's on Sprague again. read more

I don't think I will ever have a car repair experience as amazing as the one I just got at Bucky's. We drive a 25+ year old car, so were scrambling to find somewhere that would work on him, because one day he simply wouldn't start. We ended up bring him here, and that completely turned our stressful and frustrating day around. We brought the car in about 2 hours before they closed on a saturday, and were told that the diagnostic would take about an hour; they called us back with a quote within 15 minutes, and said it was possible they could have it ready to pick up by the end of the day. They ended up fixing our car in under two hours, at the very end of their work week, for less than the price they had quoted us, and they threw in an oil change for free. Additionally, as we were leaving, it turned out they had accidentally adjusted some of our settings, and an employee named Shane was more than gracious in helping us readjust everything and get set to leave, despite them having been closed for about 15 mimutes at that point. The manager, Robert, was very up front with us about everything, including the extra repairs we ended up adding on, amd why getting those repairs was the right choice for us, and we never once felt like we were being scammed. Overall, we came into his store completely desperate, and 100% in the dark about what was wrong with our car, and Robert and the rest of the crew there were nothing but kind and helpful to us, and we are so, so grateful to that crew. I noticed the bad reviews and some of them are older. I went in for an oil change and to install some aftermarket headlights. Neither of these are tricky jobs- so that lowers the chance of screwing them up I guess- but I just don't have time or tools and just don't like working on cars. My experience was great. The manager, Marvin, is a kind and intelligent guy. He gave me a fair price on the install, including some burnt out bulbs which he charged me same price as O'Reilly's for and installed for free (ok, yeah, it's easy) and the tech offered me advice on where to buy parts. These guys are complete cons. I was quoted $500 for a duel system with flowmaster 40's. They offered to tow my car in for free, (what swell guys). I get there and the price goes up $50 I protest buy it will cost more than that to have my towed to another place. I leave the car, and they say it will be done tomorrow. They also say that i am missing a part and that they can do the job, but that when I get the part, bring it back and they will make it right. They call and say the car is ready to be picked up. I show up, with my money in hand, and the manager tells me that the bill is well over $700. I freak out and tell him that I was quoted $500, he says tough luck. I happen to remember that the Idiot left a message on my phone stating "the price is $500 out the door guaranteed" I play it, and the guy says that he will let it slide this once. Slide? what, getting paid for the amount you quote is letting it "slide". What he means is : "I guess I can not get away with robbing you this time!" I get the car back, within two days it has an manifold down pipe leak. I take the car back and they won't fix it. Did I mention I acctually know "bucky" the guy that owns them all, I grew up hanging out at his house. They did nothing to help or fix it, I had to take it to promax to have it fixed, Still isnt right, but the guy did what he said he would to fix the situation, so I cant hold it against him... he got it done, and in a hurry. My old car junky friends say that Quality brake and mufler is the business, but I haven't yet been able to afford their work. read more

Update: When I went to pick up the car, they tried to tell me the parts were just old and were going to charge me the labor and parts. I told them no dice. He offerd to only charge me hald the labor. I told him the e-brake worked fine, that when the mechanic pulled the rotor off the e-brake drum, he caught the drum and broke the retaining pin and it was not my fault, and I was not paying for ANY labor. We compromised on me paying for the parts. He was going to charge me $45.00. I told him that I had called Napa Auto Parts and their price was $34.00, and I would not pay a penny more than that. He agreed and we parted ways. Bottom line: I will never go bake to any Bucky's,,, Crooks, crooks, crooks! I had a Groupon for front or rear brakes for $59.00 for Bucky's and took my car to this location. I upgraded to ceramic and was talked into rebuilding the brake cylinders as they had 120k on them. I thought that was reasonable. On the way home I heard a ticking noise that got faster as I increased speed. I also heard a loud clunking noise coming from the rear. When I parked the car, I noticed the e0brake was not working like it used to. I called and told them and took it in on Monday when they opened up. They told me the e-brake hardware was broken and it would cost me parts and labor to fix it. WTF? They broke it, why should I have to pay to fix their mistake? I immediately came to Yelp to post this and saw how they have pulled the same crap on other people. Not going to accept this crap. I am sitting at a coffee shop waiting to pick up the car. I wish I had read these reviews before taking my car in to get a radiator installed here. They completely busted off one of the bolts that holds my radiator in place, and didn't have the decency to keep the part or even tell me. Then about a month later my transmittion almost blew out because they had failed to tighten some seals properly and there was a slow transmittion fluid leak. I ended up having to pay more money to fix things that they broke than I did for the initial reason I brought it in. read more

I took my car in today to have previous warranteed work looked at. When I walked in the front door, I noticed that the man behind the counter, Deven (who turned out to be the manager) was not wearing a mask. I asked him to put one on and he refused, saying he didn't have one. I asked if someone else could help me, and he said that nobody at that location had a mask. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager. I could not afford to pay another mechanic to fix work that was under warranty, so I decided to stay, but requested that he leave the paperwork on the desk so I didn't have to have close contact with him. Once I left the shop, I called another location to find out who I should address my complaint to. A district manager called me and said he would talk to the shop manager about his behavior. When I later went to pick up my car, no employees were wearing masks, and there were three people waiting in the very tiny waiting room. As a nurse who cares for at-risk patients, I cannot risk catching the coronavirus because someone can't be bothered to wear a mask. If the manager can't even show basic concern for his customers, I highly doubt he is capable of doing quality work on their cars. read more

Totally agree with the first review. I got new brake pads on my car. They replaced my ceramic pads with some sort of metal pad. I find out later that, not only does my car need ceramic pads, but that the pads they replaced them with have actually been recalled. Yet they will not replace them under my "warranty." plus they have tried to get me to replace several other parts that have never been mentioned at other reputable car shops in varying locations. I now live across the country and am getting my front pads replaced and getting my rotors adjusted. Perhaps my rotors having to be replaced and adjusted three times in the last 9 months has something to do with those faulty pads? Hmm... read more

My car was having issues with a minor coolant leak, they pulled in my car and quoted me 300 for a water pump gasket and new timing belts. 30 min later, they tell me there's a giant hole in my radiator, which hadnt been there an hour earlier(I check my car for leaks every morning). Ended paying about 900 for a new radiator, new water pump (I had just installed a new one), and a coolant hose they never even put on. Somehow, a day after I get my car back, my entire crank bolt and pulley just fall out?? They paid for my tow back to the shop but I got no refund and all they did was put the bolt back in. I do not recommend this shop the pull all the money they can then fuck it up more so you come back. Been multiple times this has happened with my friend Mitchell, and a few others. This shop is shit. The guys working at this Bucky's are great! They always treat me well, and don't talk down to me or try to scam me just because I am female. They take the time to show me exactly what is wrong with my car. I've followed Rich (the manager) from one Bucky's to another for years now - he knows what he's doing, and is a great guy. I'm editing my review because I'm pissed at Yelp. My review, along with all of the other good reviews for this place have been filtered out, leaving Bucky's with a very poor rating. I still stand behind what I said about them - enough that I have gone and reviewed other places in hopes that Yelp will decide that my review is not fake and is in fact done by a real person who truly was happy with their service. They only get one star because I don't have a choice for negative stars. Totally ripped off...paid almost 600 for a water pump and they didn't tighten the bolts for the wheels that turn my fan belt. Lost two bolts, fan belt came off, engine red zoned and my battery was stressed. They were supposed to fix things the following Saturday, and my car is now making noises, runs warm, and has lost a lot of its power. They were supposed to talk to the "district manager" when I called yesterday, but have still not called me back. NEVER GO HERE!!!!! read more
