I had an appointment at 9 in the morning for them to inspect my car. They told me it would take 2 hours to assess my car. I told them I needed it looked at today as I just bought the car the day before. They told me it should be done by early after noon. After 6 hours I finally called them and they told me they wouldn't be able to get to my car today due to short staffing. This is something that needed to be told to me this morning when I dropped it off. After I made it clear they needed to look at it, after an hour I went down there and they had just finished. I will never bring my car back here. If they could improve how they talk to their customers and how they handled things I would consider coming back. read more

Been using Greg's for a long time for oil changes for both mine and the wifes cars. However a recent visit to replace my wifes car battery felt like a bit of a gouge. called ahead for a quote. 209 plus 40 to install. Seemed high for a battery after Costco quoted 124 but they don't install so... Wife got there and they added 10 to the battery plus there was an additional "shop fee" that was not mentioned over the phone plus sales tax of course. came to 300. My son left his vehicle to get fixed at Greg's Japanese auto, it was there for a few days. His vehicle got broken into and was not notified until two days later and his window was shattered. I told him that he would need to go through his insurance to pay for the window. I don't think that's fair because he was broken into while on their lot getting worked done. My wife drove over to visit her Mother... 2017 toyota Highlander hybrid with 81K. Made it just fine but would not turn over next morning. Hybrid warning lights would flash etc. Called local Toyota dealers in Puyallup. One would not be able to get her in for over a week, the other did not even return call. Did some searching and found Greg's Japanese Auto. Called them and they were able to get car in next day, run diagnostics and determine what needed to be fixed and what should be dealt with while they did that. Car fixed in one day. Service and treatment of customer both top notch. No attempts to up sell and honest as the day is long. If I lived in the area they would be my service center without question. Wow!! Not reliable!!! I took the day off because my car needed to get looked at for a strange noise. They said they would check it and and let me know the problem. I took the day off and delivered my car to them at 8:00 AM, as they requested. I called them at 2:00 pm and they said that they couldn't get to it and needed another day to test drive it. I called to make an appointment at Greg's last Friday the 1st of May 26 to have the A/C system of my Lincoln MKS checked and possibly serviced if needed. I was told bring it in early the following Monday (4th of May) morning. I left the car with them and expected them to call when the car was ready. I get a call in the late afternoon informing me the car couldn't get looked at because they were swamped. I left the car with them and expected to get it back Tuesday. That DID NOT happen. Again, the same story, they were swamped. I had telephoned earlier in the day Wednesday (6th) to inquire about the car. The service manager asked if she could call me back because she was busy on another line. No problem, right? I never got a call back. I drove up to the shop Wednesday afternoon (2:30) and the car still HAD NOT been looked at. She told me that the car was in the "Queue." I reminded her that the car was dropped off Monday and that this was ridiculous that my car still hadn't been looked at yet, TWO and ONE HALF days later. She informed me that appointments were no longer taken, first come, first serve. Well if that was the case my car should have been serviced by Monday or NLT Tuesday. I got my keys back and informed the two desk personnel that they should be ashamed of themselves for such mediocre business practices. They have lost a good previous customer. I have previously received fair service from Greg's (oil changes, A/C service, etc...) NO MORE! If they don't make appointments and stick to the estimated time of completion they will be loosing more business than just mine. I called Greg's Japanese Auto after getting a report from a Honda dealership, that my 2005 Honda CR-V needed a waterpump and serpentine belt. Knowing the history of my CR-V, (as we are the original owners), and the vehicle has very low mileage, I was skeptical of the dealership diagnosis. Talked to the manager Melissa about scheduling a replacement of the waterpump and belt, got a Ballpark estimate which was less expensive than what the dealership quoted. Melissa informed me that they would do an inspection before any repairs were done. Dropped off my vehicle, check in was very thorough and easy. Few hours later, received word that the water pump was NOT leaking, in fact it was bone dry. Considering the age of my car, I did want the belt changed out and had a few other maintenance items done that were overdue. Greg's also found and caught a small leak in the valve cover. Thanks! Greg's took photos of the leak and forwarded them so that I could decide or approve to do the work. Brought car in at 8 am: Had the Valve cover gasket replaced Transmission Drain & Fill Replaced Serpentine Belt Car was done and ready for pickup by 5 pm We were very satisfied with the professionalism and care taken of our vehicle. Very pleased with the communication and knowledge that Melissa extended to us. Greg's in Puyallup will from now on will be our Go To when our vehicles need service. Made an appointment last week to get my car serviced they ended up calling me a day before saying they had to cancel my appointment and reschedule due to them having not enough people, which is understandable and then I dropped it off the day of my new appointment in the AM at Around 945 am I didn't mind not having the car till the end of day but when I didn't receive an update I called around 4pm for them just to tell me that they wouldn't be able to get to my car until tomorrow again due to not enough employees ( I'm sensing a pattern ) , I again was Ok with that but only asked that they move my car inside the shop, they did not do that and when I picked up my car today there was 3 cracks in my driver side window from someone trying to break in due to them leaving my car outside overnight. I used to like this place took my service here all the time and now it seems i like whoever is in charge of this location doesn't know how to run the place when I showed the manager the damage to my car she suggested I run it thru my insurance..... yeh great idea told me there was nothing they could do, when you leave you car in their care here at Greg's just know they don't care about what happens to your car and I would not recommend leaving it here overnight EVER also if I want clear I would not recommend coming to this location ever, I will let all my friends know about my experience with this place. read more

If used Greg's before in Federal Way and was very happy. This place was the same experience. We had our Infiniti in for the AC not working. Turned out to be the compressor $ but we had them replace it along with the belt. Works great. Spendy but aren't all things now days. The customer service and scheduling all was smooth. Very good service, one thing I love about this place, is that they will bring you to whereever you need to go while your vehicle is in their shop, so you can go home, or work or whatever with a ride in heir courtesy shuttle- I also like their road service plan they have. the main thing is the price could be a little better in regards the total bill. 2007 Lexus ES350 is a maintenance hog., i.e., it keeps a drain on the wallet. I went to Greg's after an industry professional suggested it for reasons of expertise and cost savings in the replacement of all six coils. Rather than attend the brand Dealer who charged me $550 to tell me what was wrong with it and quoted $2400 more.,to repair it, Greg's did the job for $1250. AND cleared the forrest of lights on my dash AND cleared the Tire Pressure lights as well. That involves replacing batteries INSIDE the tires ! That was above and beyond and my car drives like new again. Whenever I meet Technicians of any sort, my BS Detector goes into armed mode. I ask subtle questions designed to elicit potentially faulty answers. I can smell BS at 1000 feet and these guys are the real deal. No kidding. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You !!! read more

We consistently get good, reliable, and honest service here unlike at the Subaru dealer. They've replaced our brakes, done 30k maintenance, and really helped us out when 6 warning lights started flashing even keeping our car for us over the weekend even though they weren't charging us and referred us to a transmission shop they trust (which also gets great reviews). They really care about their customers and don't try to swindle them unlike certain dealer-associated shops nearby. I had the best experience with Greg's Japanese Auto in Puyallup. Found out the had to remove my front bumper to replace a signal bulb that went out. While they had the bumper off, they decided to replace the other bulb as well, knowing that there was a good possibility of that one going out soon and they wanted to save me money, by not having to charge me to remove my bumper for the other light when it goes out. I am very grateful that they did this, because removing a front bumper on my Lexus possibly wasn't an easy task. I'm impressed with the honesty and integrity at Greg's. Today I took my 2006 Honda in for a brake job that was deemed "urgent" by the service department at South Tacoma Honda at a cost of $600. My bill today from Greg's? ZERO. And that's because my car doesn't even need a brake job yet! JC explained it in detail to my husband and me - I have about 30,000 miles left on these brakes. Skip The Dealership!  We recently made an appointment with the dealership for getting one of our Hondas fixed.  The appointment was made online with them after answering several questions.  A couple days later, we confirmed the appointment, got time off from work, and my husband and I both drove a vehicle there (a total of 54 miles which includes both vehicles).  When we got there, we were told that they "wouldn't have time" to look at our vehicle today since "their guys" were "getting ready to go home."  What about our appointment?!?  It had been confirmed!  They told us we'd have to come back "another day."  Seriously?!?  I asked to talk to the service manager, but he had gone home for the day.  I called him and left messages twice the next day.  He never returned my calls.  We ended up taking the car to Greg's Japanese Auto and had the car's problems diagnosed and fixed the same day!!!  Honda could learn a thing or two from Greg's Japanese Auto about not wasting people's time, energy, and money!!!  Good job!!! read more

Just to start off the employees have hygiene issues and the lobby office is truly disgusting. When I asked how long it would take one of the employees told me "I dont know maam". So after a few hours I obtained a phone call and they tried to up sell me on every service they possibly could, so this went from a $99.99 fix to a $2345.57 repair plus the 137.00 fee for diagnostics. After getting my car back it had the most horrible smell, so I had to take it get detailed just to get the awful odor out. Did I mention they give out your cell phone number to CRI customer research inc. Some marketing company. Absolutely horrible. read more

My 2001 Izusu, needed its fuel system fixed. It wouldn't take gas, click, click, click. I knew it wasn't full and I didn't want to run out of gas. So I took it to Greg's. I'm glad I did. The fuel system was that of a Honda Passport, not an Isuzu. It took two days of research for Greg's to figure this thing out. We made an appointment and parts were ordered. Wouldn't you know it, the day we needed to take the car to Greg's, it wouldn't start. Because I am a part of Greg's Customer Service rewards plan, the tow was free. So now we are looking at a fuel system repair AND a new starter. Good News! It was only a broken wire that was the problem with the starter. A less honest shop would have replaced the starter and charged me an arm and leg. Even worse, a less honest shop could of fixed the broken wire and charged me for a new starter. Greg's isn't the cheapest, but they are the best. Highly recommend Greg's to anyone with a Japanese or Korean car. read more

I've been going to Greg's with my vehicles (Honda Civic, Subaru Legacy, my husbands Mitsubishi Lancer and his Mitsubishi Eclipse) for about the past 4 years. This is the only place both of us trust taking our vehicles to. I've been so constantly impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Specficially JC & Ty. I appreciate how patient they are with all of my self-proclaimed stupid questions. These two are really what keeps me coming back - they go out of their way to make sure you understand what is going on with your car, and what needs to be done to fix it. They will bring you back to visually show you the malfunction of your vehicle if need be. I haven't experienced service like this anywhere else and it is an absolute pleasure taking my car here. I know that my car is in the best hands when I drop it off for service or repair at Greg's. I for awhile lived about 35 miles away from this store, but would travel the distance whether it was for something small like an oil change, and even for my larger repairs. I wouldn't care if it was over an hour away, there is no where else I will be taking any of my vehicles. My husband and I tell everyone we know about this place, we just love the staff and the great work they do. read more

Don't trust these guys. Many months ago I went in to have my EGR valve changed, that's it because as a mechanic with over 30 years experience I had troubleshot and diagnosed the system but didn't have the time to change it myself. I also asked them to ensure once it was changed to please run it up til it's warm and check to see if it fixes the rough idle which also triggered a knock sensor code. Well the EGR valve was changed, ECU was not reset and when paying I asked if the idle issue was resolved and told it was. I reset the ECU myself and two days later check engine light was back on kicking EGR code again, but this was for the system and not the valve. They charged me for some vacuum tube and when I finally got under the hood to check it out two months later they had indeed changed some hose. It was the wrong size hose and was sucking air all around it. Long story short, took it somewhere else and got knock sensor replaced and a bad spark plug wire, put on proper vacuum hose and lo and behold I am good to go. There is little doubt the wrong size vacuum tube was intentionally installed because you can't just put the wrong size tube on and I don't think the intent was to properly fix the thing because I didn't pay for their diagnostics fee which had they let the car warm up and tell me their was still an idle issue they could have pulled the codes and fixed it right but chose to lie to me and then not do the job right as well. I would steer way clear of here because what it tells me is they are willing to be shady and won't even blink. I would have went back about the vacuum tubes and called them out but what was the use when there were more repairs needed and they didn't have the time to go verify and validate the idle issue after the half-ass EGR replacement? Apparently additional work wasn't wanted and it was about getting the car out and going to the next one and being spiteful in the process thinking I would call on them a second time. How did that work out for them? Not so well because I found an honest garage after their shoddy work. As you see this review has resulted in a response from Melissa. Melissa is accurate with her statement regarding diagnostic testing, however it does mention the conversation where I told the counter person to check the rough idle after it was warm to see if that was resolved. But what else was missing in the response is the addressing of the vacuum hose being replaced with the wrong size vacuum line. read more

Shopped around to get a few quotes for a timing belt for my wife's Kia. The quotes at other places, including the dealership, ranged from $575-700+. Greg's came in at just under $500. They even suggested that we look in the valpak to save a little bit more. I didn't realize that they had a shuttle service and offered my wife a ride home. I'm pleased with the work they did and will definitely go back again for any other work that I can't/won't try to do on my own. read more

My wife and I took her 2010 Prius in for an oil chance and an inspection as we'd been overseas for the last two years. I've been burned by dealerships in the past, so I stay away from them as much as I can. The guys at Greg's were very courteous. My son and I walked outside and I spoke to one of the techs about the Prius' battery/charging system. He was knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. After the oil change and inspection, her car got a clean bill of health and we were out the door in a very reasonable amount of time. While Greg's is more expensive than the local oil huts, I think Greg's techs attention to detail and warranty on ALL work they do makes up for it. I'll take quality over saving a few bucks any day.... Greg's also has a shuttle and will take you home if the maintenance will take longer than you can wait. I, too, am part of Greg's Customer Care Service. It's a great plan and as someone mentioned, free towing if it comes to that. I recommended them to a coworker and he plans to make them his shop of choice. Also, If my wife had to take the car to them alone, I'm confident they'd treat her respectfully and honestly. All in all, I'd recommend Greg's to anyone with a Japanese/Korean made vehicle looking for a quality auto shop. read more

I've used their services twice. First time was because the dealership said I needed new brakes. Went here for a 2nd opinion. They could have agreed with the dealership and charged me a lesser price just to get money out of me but they didn't. They told me my brakes were fine and the small noise I was hearing was due to dust. About a year later I was back for another mechanical issue that I can't remember right now (sorry!) Anywho, this time I did my homework and knew I needed the work. They beat the dealership price and took care of it. They have a reward program too, which is nice. This place is kinda bare bones. They may be able to shuttle you nearby while your car is being prepared. I recommend making arrangements ahead of time if you need to leave your car for an extended period. For me, I was told it will take 1.5-2 hours(which it did) so I downloaded a movie and waited in the lobby. Please note I had my repair done just before the shutdown so I don't know if you can still wait in the lobby or if they offer a shuttle service anymore. read more
