Great venue for dining after biking the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail. We always elect to dine outdoors. It's a short ride off the rail trail through town. I like to order the caesar chicken salad with cajun chicken. Hits the spot. (Oh, and steal a few onion rings from my husband's plate -- quite yummy.) Said husband claims the beer prices are very low; I, not being the beer drinker, take his word for it. All I know is that our total bill for 2 for lunch with beer is under 20.00. That, I'm up for. Even for the CHEAP prices, service was unacceptable. I waited over 20 minutes to be asked what I was ordering. However, if you're in the area and looking to save $$, then this is your spot; not much else around. French onion soup - tasted more like a beef stew than French onion soup. A no go for this item. Boneless wings - not a lot of breading (a plus) and decent size. The "buzzy" sauce is a BBQ, buffalo and butter sauce all mixed together (sounds weird but was actually pretty alright). Their ranch is nothing to write about. Garlic parm homemade potato chips - there are 3 other flavors to choose from, but decided to go with my favorite wing flavor. While decent, also nothing memorable. Drink prices seem to be a bit cheaper than an average bar in PGH. At the end of the day, seems like the place to be on an early Friday night, with a lack of option in the area, especially for the prices. read more

I don't often give a bad review, but sometimes all it takes is a server who is unfriendly and inattentive to spoil what should have been a nice time out. After hearing from quite a few people that Bud Murphy's was worth the trip, husband and I stopped in for a drink and get a late lunch/ early dinner. First of all, most places have hostesses who keep track of patrons and seating. This place doesn't have hostesses and it's a free for all when you walk in. Being that it was a weekend, the place was crowded. We had to wander from room to room to find a place to sit. A lot of tables and booths had "reserved" signs on them. We accidentally walked into one room that had some sort of celebration going on...no sign saying it was a private party. Eventually, we found an empty booth in the bar section. We got settled and waited. After ten minutes, our server appeared and asked what we wanted. Menus would be nice. She didn't greet us or apologize for the wait. More time passes and we get menus. After we decided on our choices, there was more waiting for her to come back. I asked for the meatball sub and husband got an order of wings with Teriyaki. Due to the crowd, there was a wait for our food. Ultimately, our food arrived and it was fine. She did stop by twice to see about drink refills and then to say another server would be taking care of us because her shift was over. No smile, no thank you for coming. Our second server was completely opposite. She smiled, asked if our food was fine, got us popcorn, and takeout box for my leftover sub. She is why this review is 2 stars and not 1 star. This place needs to get hostesses to manage seating at least on busy weekends. Also, remind servers that not everyone is local and maybe unfamiliar with the menu. My husband bought me a salad from there for my lunch, and it was the worst salad I have ever gotten. The lettuce was brown and slimy. One of the cucumbers and one of the peppers were not edible. It was a total disappointment. There was no date anywhere on the packaging that even told me what date this was made because it clearly wasn't the purchase date. It was purchased as take out with a take and back pizza. This should not have been sold to my husband. Shame on you Bud Murphy's. I reviewed this place back in 2017 and this week was the first time we've been back. Amazingly, it was just as bad as it was 6 years ago. Buds is a staple in the area and is always packed. I guess when you're the only game in town you can maintain mediocrity. We sat at the bar around 7:15pm and were greeted by the bartender and got drinks right away. I will say, it seemed as though they cleaned the taps/lines at some point as the beer was good. We were told that all good other than pizza was at 40 mins. We ordered peel and eat shrimp for appetizer, wings and a pizza. A few minutes later a couple sat next to my wife and a couple guys sat on my side. Fast forward a half hour and we are told pizza would be at least another 45 minutes. We canceled and ordered spinach and artichoke dip instead. As we were revising our order, the couple to our right got their appetizer and the guys to my left got their entrees. About 10 minutes later the dip came out. It was now just over an hour since we first ordered. Bartender went back to the kitchen and wasn't much longer before the food came out. I'm not convinced the wings were fully cooked but we didn't get sick. All in it took an hour and 15 minutes to get shrimp that required no preparation and a dozen wings. Never again. read more

I came here for the pizza and they ran out of pizza dough on a Saturday night! We ordered some Italian dishes, wings which were all pretty good. The biggest problem was that it's seat yourself and seems super disorganized. We were just walking around clueless until we saw a table open and just stood there until they cleaned it. Also, Saturday night's karaoke so it's very loud I wouldn't bring kids. The was staff friendly but Im not sure if the bartender knew what she was doing. I ordered lemon drop shots and she gave me warm vodka and a lemon on the side! Now I came here many years ago and remember the pizza being amazing! So we went back for lunch the next day before heading back home. Again very busy and nowhere to sit this drives me crazy it's a big place that should not be self seating. I came again last night. The server was amazing! Christina was incredibly kind, and she moved around quickly to do her job! A fight broke out, and she continued to do her job while the other waitresses put themselves in the middle. The food was accurate, and I got exactly what I paid for! The manager was rude, but Christina worked to help me find a seat! That girl is a hard worker and is very good at her job! If you're gonna come to bud Murphy's I'd ask for her. The food is hit or miss but it's cheap enough to play roulette. The waitresses are also hit or miss. Some are quick and very friendly, some are so high they can barely stand. They'll give you wrong change or forget to put your order in. The AC at the back of the bar leaks so you'll get a surprise down your back in the summer. I've spent a lot of time at Bud's over the last five years. And for the dozens of times I've been there I always end up with pizza and wings. Occasionally a side salad and I will say that the balsamic dressing they serve is great. Pizza and wings are both very good, I'll start with that. I will say that lately the pizza has been a little inconsistent over our last handful of visits. We tend to always order the whole wings and stick to good ol buffalo. I recently met up with a friend at Bud Murphy's for lunch. I know she likes Bud's and tells me she probably eats there more than she should. She loves their pizza. This was my first visit and I was surprised that it was so pleasant and welcoming inside with fall decor everywhere, because the outside is deceiving. It was also pretty busy for a weekday afternoon. When I opened the menu, I couldn't believe the prices. During these inflationary times and restaurant sticker shock, I was already loving this restaurant where you could get a decent lunch for less than $10! My friend ordered the chicken basket with fries and a drink, and I ordered a Reuben sandwich, which was just as Reuben should be made, with a side of onion rings and a soda. Very large portions, she took half of hers home and I didn't feel like a need to eat again until the next day. The service was quick and the waitress refilled our sodas. I still can't believe all the food we got for less than $10, including tax. I'm sure I'll be back l, maybe try the pizza when I'm traveling Route 119 again. read more

Took EXTREMELY long to finally get the order, but finally got it. The club sandwich was fine, but the Fries were COLD and seem to be UNCOOKED , completely white and mushy! The Fireburger had NO JALEPENO's and was about as big as a McDonald's $1.00 burger. The Sampler was fine. The Chicken Quesadillas had very little Chicken and FULL of green peppers! Bud Murphy's is very, very popular among locals, so you would assume it's a solid choice. I will say their pizza is alright - definitely not "world famous" as they like to say. The other menu items are fairly mediocre for my pallette. The average quality of their food combined with some serious service issues are what sets Bud Murphy's firmly at two stars for me; even that may be generous. Pizza usually comes out very quickly, but our friend who got a hoagie was waiting an additional twenty minutes or so. The server was apologetic and explained pizza usually arrives before other items, but it seriously seems ridiculous that they have these kind of timing issues. To top it off, once the hoagie did arrive, our friend found a hair in it! I understand things happen, but talk about adding insult to injury. Another major hindrance to my personal enjoyment here is how crowded it always seems to be. It's seat yourself which is usually fine, but when it's so insanely busy it becomes very awkward to find seating. I mentioned to a server in passing I needed a table for four and was quickly and rudely dismissed to another dining room despite there clearly being seating where she was waiting tables. Sorry ma'am - I don't know the unspoken rules of where it's ok to sit and not sit. So yeah - locals love Bud Murphy's and your friends from the Connellsville area will likely go on and on with cult-like devotion about how legendary their pizza is. This is my goto place when I am home. I have been eating Bud's pizza since I can remember- and that is a very long time! I only get home 1-2 times a year now and I try to goto Bud's at least 1 time, if not 2 (possibly more if we are there for a while)- we call it Cheese Fest. We eat cheese sticks, cheese fries and White Cheese Pizza. I miss this place and the food so much, it is such a treat when I go home and we all love it. My hubby who is not from here, even loves the pizza and the food. I have tried a lot of things on the menu and would recommend the Philly cheesesteak (sandwich or pizza); the italian hoagie toasted it amazing; I pick the plate clean on the cheese fries; the White pizza has such yummy garlic cheesy goodness along with the tomatoes; and another favorite is the Margherita pizza- again great combo of flavor with the cheese, fresh tomatoes and basil.
