Valley dairy is part of a chain of restaurants , and not the typical place that I'd review, but it's become a go to stop that we have been stopping at when we are in the area, at brunch time for breakfast or lunch. We first stopped a couple of months ago and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, so we've been going there about once a week since then, usually for pancakes but the last few times we've tried lunch fare, today I had a a bowl of cheesy chicken tortilla soup and half a grilled cheese sandwich, I also had the hands down best, ( made with real chocolate ice cream), chocolate milk shake I've ever had . I had luncheon here some years ago and it was quite nice. I was in town today and wanted some sherbet. The restaurant wasn't busy, I went to the counter and was told they didn't have sherbet. This surprised and disappointed me, I didn't actually want ice cream but ordered a mint chocolate chip cone, my favorite. For the price of what I was given, somebody needs to be arrested for highway robbery. $3.17 for this pathetic little single scoop cone, and compared to the ice cream I've scooped over the years this was NOT a full scoop. But this is what they laughingly sell for $3.17. Had I known I could have gone next door to Dollar General, paid a little more and bought a full carton. Their freezer temperature was obviously too low, this ice cream (what there was of it) was so soft I had to eat it faster than normal, wasted my money and did not enjoy it at all. i have eaten at valley dairy for years. but as of late very disappointed in the food. and especially not able to get their own ice cream to go. they sell perry's ice cream now and very subpar it is the same stuff you can go to grocery and get cheaper. not the same as theirs had much more flavor and creamier read more

First and foremost, if Judy is your server, your in for excellent service. She delivers top-tier service. You never have to ask for refills. She's constantly watching. Extremely friendly and gracious. As for the food, I've never had a bad meal. Today I had chicken fried steak & eggs. Meat was perfectly cooked. Crispy coating, tender meat. Eggs cooked perfectly and not hard or overdone. Hash browns crispy outside, tender inside. I've had burgers here, sandwiches and the unlimited fish special. Speaking of, Valley Dairy has seasonal specials but even better, they have local, daily specials too. The ambiance is typical family restaurant. Nothing fancy. Just basic booths and tables that are perfectly serviceable and fully stocked with salt & pepper, ketchup, hot sauce, sugars, jelly & jam, etc. Definitely recommend. read more

I love this place. I have been coming here since the mid 1990s and it's always a great experience. I do miss my first visit to the Laurel Mall location but that's ok. If you want a great meal always think about Vally Dairy. read more

Love this place, low expectations and they they are usually fast and polite. Easy eating diner foods. Just what you expect.

I read all the great reviews and got excited only to be disappointed. Their salad was gross. The ranch was sweet and tasted like they poured miracle whip in it to stretch it out. The croutons omg they had a dirt and fish flavor. What in the world!? 3.99 for fishy dirt. My SO liked his burger but I wasn't a huge fan of my meal. I don't think we will be coming back. The service was on point though. We didn't say anything about the salads when they asked how everything was, I'm always afraid of retaliation or something and I'm super shy in person. Either way I'm sure we just hit an off day or something. Just avoid the salads. read more

I was driving by and always like to try local restauarants vs. chain restaurants. The place was busy but not overflowing and I loved the history on the walls. The waitress sat me quickly and took my order. I chose to start with the funnel cake ice cream dessert (yes I started with this)- and me oh my! it was fabulous! My food arrived before I even completed my pre-dessert ;) I ordered a turkey club with sweet potato fries. The fried could have used a little seasoning or salt, but hey, they were delicious. Stopped on the way home for some milkshakes and fries. Their milkshakes are wonderful. Just what I needed at the end of a hot day. The curly fries are tasty but perhaps they might consider using another container or increasing the amount they give to their take out orders. Upon opening the container, less than half the container was full and disappointment settled in. My dining partner also ordered a milkshake and it was more milk than ice cream. I would go there again for their Oreo milkshake though. read more

My friends and I were riding The Great Allegheny Passage and stayed at the park by the caboose near Martin's so we wound up eating here 4 times over a couple of days. The food was pretty good. For breakfast I recommend something called the Haystack, and I really recommend it. It was the best breakfast I had the whole ride. It has a biscuit split in half with a piece of breakfast sausage covering each half, with hashbrowns on top of the sausage and then the whole thing covered with creamy gravy with sausage crumbles. It's delicious. For dinner, the smothered tater tots were awesome. They're obviously made from scratch there. I also had the grilled chicken entree salad which included a sliced hard boiled egg and a bread stick. Another time I got a patty melt but the waitress specifically put "no sauce" when I definitely wanted the sauce. It was dry and needed the sauce for the intended flavor profile. I was hungry. This started a trend of servers delivering me food without condiments or sauces, maybe it's a PA thing but my friend's still joke about it. Service was good 3 of the 4 times. Judy and Carly were really great. The bathroom is clean and comfortable. Convenient bike parking and plenty of window seats so you can keep an eye on your steed. Let's be clear on what we are reviewing here. This is a diner. It's a good diner. We stopped on our way out of town for breakfast. The waitstaff was super friendly, the food was out in 6 minutes, everything tasted good, and my coffee cup was always filled. No, it wasn't a New York breakfast but it wasn't what I came for. But I did enjoy it. My husband had the Garden Omelette and I had the scrambled eggs with cheese and a sausage. Pretty perfectly proportioned for what we needed. They have the best all you can eat fish on Fridays and even offer a order to take home when you're done. Staff is very friendly and willing to ensure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. We biked here from Pittsburgh on our way to Confluence and needed to refuel. The portions were big big and we were plenty sated. Great Allegheny Passage Cyclist friendly. I've been here twice while riding the GAP and love it. If you are southbound (Pittsburgh behind you, Ohiopyle ahead) turn right onto Meason, just after going under the 4 lane highway bridge. Northbound, turn left before the bridge. Cross 7th Street and go into the small strip mall. Valley Dairy is located just past the Dollar General. You can lean your bikes against the wall and get a booth inside next to them. Great find for people biking through. A woman at the bike shop sent us there (with a discount coupon). They have all kinds shakes, floats, Sunday's, banana splits. They also have food. We loved the Ruben & their home made chips are the best we've had. Service was quick & friendly & prices are very reasonable. read more

We were looking for a reliable breakfast place to get us rolling in the morning. No surprises, no nonsense, the kind of place that has worn their breakfast into a familiar groove. And we were mostly unsurprised with the breakfasts we ordered... except that their sausage patties had a weird aftertaste that didn't suggest locally-made sausage as it suggested Tennessee Pride a day or so past its "use by" date.
