While visiting Panama City Beach, we had one mission: find some good blue crabs! Being East Coast crab connoisseurs, we wanted to compare Gulf crabs to the Atlantic crabs we're used to, so we stopped by Buddy Gandy's Seafood on West Highway 98. The first thing that surprised us was the process. Instead of ordering by the dozen like back home, you're handed a bag and a pair of tongs and told to pick out your own live crabs! Then they weigh your bag since the crabs are sold by the pound. At $6.99 per pound, we ended up with nearly two dozen crabs for right around $70. The first batch of crabs available was a little... slim pickings, so we asked if they had larger ones. The staff happily brought out another bucket, and we were able to find some much nicer-sized crabs. Everyone was friendly, courteous, and happy to help. Back at the resort, we steamed them up, and they were delicious! They were mostly full, and only one or two were light. The only disappointment? As people who've eaten both Atlantic and Gulf blue crabs, we could immediately tell these weren't Gulf crabs. They tasted like Atlantic crabs, so that took away a bit from the experience since we were hoping for something different. Overall, Buddy Gandy's gets 4 out of 5 stars from me. The seafood was good, the staff was great... but if I'm paying nearly $70 and doing the crab shopping myself, I'm knocking off that last star! read more

Hello! Since moving to FL I've tried several seafood markets but I keep coming back to Buddy Gandy's. I was nicely surprised this go around when I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and saw only 2 people, I knew I came at the right time to get my Blue Crabs steamed!. I picked out several nice "Rusty's" for me and my sister. We had the young lady to steamed them and seasoned them with The Gandy Mix. All I can say is delicious . I love Buddy Gandys for my seafood. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. They do Military discount also. But to have it shipped I would never do that. My sister in law had some grouper shipped to Mass. and it was nothing like I get when I go there and order it. It was filled with so many bones. So hard to eat. So from now on I will bring it to her when I go and visit. I recommend buying from the store. I always get good fish that way. read more

I got to stop in yesterday and grabbed some shrimp and red snapper. They leave the skin on the snapper which I really appreciate! The fish was fresh and was really good. When you walk in, it's kind of based on the honor system as far as who is next to be helped. We didn't really see anyone having issues being honest and not cutting in line. The workers work quickly and get your order prepared in a timely manner. This place seems like it may always be busy as there were many people in line and continued coming in after us. Small little shop that was busy from the time we entered to the time we left. Not sure if they were short staffed but the line was super long and they only had two staff members waiting on customers so be prepared to wait. The shop didnt smell overly fishy which was a plus. Large variety of seafood that was super fresh. They give you plenty of ice so that you can travel with your purchase. we were able to eat both the salmon and oysters raw without any problems. read more

Fresh catch with good prices. Was very surprised to see red snapper for the price of $11.99/lb where everyone else was selling for $17-19/lb. This place carries Spanish Mackerel which is excellent for the grill or as a bait fish! You have to get there early as it is first come first eat fresh fish basis. I buy most of my seafood here after I empty my deep freezer of the fish and shrimp I catch in the spring and early summer. They have a great selection and fresh fish, crabs, crawfish, and shrimp. I would love to give them five stars, but their steamer has been out of service for a very long time. This isn't their fault due to they cannot locate the part needed to repair it. I'm quite sure they lose a ton of business due to this. I usually buy my shrimp at one of their competitors due to this very fact. Buddy Gandy's is by far my favorite seafood market, I just wish they could locate the part needed to repair their steamers. read more

We found our way into Buddy Gandy's on Christmas Eve and as first timers to PCB, we had hoped we find a scoff of seafood for dinner. The entire staff there are awesome. We met Mom, Dad and daughter and had a history lesson while there. It's these interactions that make these little places so special and pull you back for more. Fresh, fresh, fresh! Stopped by there on way back from picking up my trailer on recommendation of the CRAWFISH MAN. Picked out my own live Blue Crab and my own live crawfish. Got a lb of royal red shrimp. Prices were reasonable. Food was excellent when i cooked it up. I will visit th his place alot and is only 15 minutes away. read more

Went there yesterday. Good selection of fresh fish. The grouper filet I chose was a little expensive, $17+ a pound, but when cooked for dinner that night was excellent! Fresh flavor, firm, no oil or fishy taste. They pack on ice for transport. I will be back. Shrimp seemed priced reasonable as did the pompano. I will try those next. Recommend. read more

My sister came into town to visit the family. We had all sorts of food and seafood except oysters of course. So at the last minute she decided she wanted oysters and my mom decided to pick Buddy Gandy over Simply. And to our surprised.....so much DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! I guess some or most business people have to lie to make money in life. I guess that's how they do business here or anywhere. We bought a sack of oyster from here, $95. Yes! The price is ridiculous! Especially when the oyster is really small. They said it was good. But heck it's our fault for listening to them. The oyster was sooo tiny and it was not that great. About 1/3 of the bag was bad. And no one wants to eat it. It's just sitting in the cooler waiting to be thrown away. I LOVE me some seafood. I'm an oinker myself. It's not about the price. I'll pay some money for some top quality seafood. But this right here is not good at all. Maybe we happen to be the unlucky one to pick this bag up. I know Some people love this place....but I'll let you know that this is not my favorite. read more

Tried it today. I think this one may have better pricing than the one closer to the beach? I've been to the one closer to the beach and it was very expensive. Got some great Royal Reds for 10.99 and grouper cheeks for I think the same. Packed it up in ice and stayed ice cold on the 5 hour ride home. DON'T COME HERE. Such a bad experience. The lady there was very racist toward us. We drove 7 hours to Florida and thought this was a great place for seafood purchase. Turns out, she has the worst attitude towards her customer (very racist to say the least). I will never be back and I do not recommend this place to anyone. I went on Tuesday afternoon, and you would have thought they would have been stacked with product. Not so. Not to mention, it was overpriced for what I consider market uncooked. They have gotten rude, the employees are unhappy, there is a parking lot full of customers at their opening time yet they don't open their doors sometimes 15 or 20 minutes after their designated opening time. I may be a little biased, since I just moved here from 29 Palms, CA (desert). My fiance and I are traveling contractors and seafood lovers, so we sample a lot of seafood markets & restaurants all over the country. This place is a gem. I love the smell of fish markets, didn't think the smell was repugnant like one reviewer did. I got great service both times I have been there (we moved here less than a week ago). Prices were good and I discovered the wonderful Grouper throat. We bought whole fresh oysters (which were hard work but delicious ) and some freshly packed shucked ones. They have a great selection of fish, shellfish, ice, coolers, seasonings-- just a great place. Am already a regular customer. read more

I have a friend that lost her Dog a Maltese, Buddy Gandy has it and refuses to hive it back. He claims that it is his lost Poodle. My Friends have produced Vet records and Photos showing that it is their Dog. If he can't tell the difference between a Maltese and a Poodle how can he tell the difference between Mullet and Red Snapper. There is a special place for a person that refuses to return an others Dog. I will never shop here again when I am in Panama City area. read more

While my aunt and uncle were waiting for the shrimp they bought, they over heard an employee laughing that he sold some trash fish to some customers saying it was fresh caught grouper. Bought 4 tuna steaks from Buddy Gandy's. I was assured they were sushi grade. Shame on me for not properly inspecting the fish before buying. When I got home I home and inspected the fish, I was furious. The tuna steaks had a bad fishy smell. The flesh was mushy. There is no telling how old this tuna was. It went straight in the trash. I had planned on making sushi, but I wouldn't even trust that tuna fully cooked. I can't speak for their other products, but I was sorely disappointed with their tuna. read more

Wow. This place is out of the way and off the path. It looks like a dive or hole in the wall. BUT DONT JUST DRIVE BY. Stop here and buy some fresh catch. We had the most amazing red grouper and super jumbo shrimp. If I get withing 100 miles of this place again I'm filling a cooler to go. Oh and don't worry if u don't know about fresh fish.
