I stopped by here earlier today with my wife and twins for lunch. We had found Shrimp City on Yelp a couple of days prior and bookmarked it, but the stars aligned for us to head here today. We arrived at the shop around 1 PM as another customer was leaving. Outside of that, we were the only customers inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside of Shrimp City is clean, straightforward, and no-frills.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Along one side is a long glass seafood counter showcasing fresh shrimp, oysters, clams, crab meat, and more, all clearly labeled with bright, handwritten signage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Behind the counter, a staff member was working at a stainless steel prep area. Across from that, several upright freezers are packed with frozen seafood and bait, including king crab, snow crab, crawfish, and various shellfish. One fridge even has a bold sign reminding customers not to forget their bait, offering items like shrimp, squid, and cigar minnows. There are also shelves of sauces, seasonings, and cold drinks. For lunch, my wife and I ultimately decided on 2 pounds of XL Gulf shrimp (31-35 count). We asked to have them steamed with Old Bay and garlic butter. The lady who waited on us behind the counter was super nice, and we had a pleasant conversation with her while the shrimp steamed. After they were finished, we headed back to where we were staying to eat. The shrimp ended up being excellent. The meat was sweet, and the balance of Old Bay and garlic butter was spot on. You could taste both, but neither overpowered the other. All too quickly, we had made it through our 2 pounds of shrimp, and my wife immediately told me I should rate it a 5. If I had to go here again, the only change I would make is to have chosen the peeled and deveined shrimp they offered just to make my life easier. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Our shrimp were very good, and I thought the lady working the front was nice as well.

Shrimp city continues to be a solid place to get quality seafood year after year. They've got a wide selection of freshly caught fish and other seafood, all of which is fantastic. My favorite is their snapper and old bay seasoned shrimp. They also have a variety of prepared fridge and freezer foods, such as dips, boudin and other sausages, sauces, and frozen raw food like calamari. Workers here are super nice and love what they do. They are always helpful in deciding what and how much to get. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had a remodel a few years ago and the new facelift makes this place look much less like a hole in the wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My sister in law had some grouper shipped to Mass. and it was nothing like I get when I go there and order it. It was filled with so many bones. So hard to eat. Being East Coast…read morecrab connoisseurs, we wanted to compare Gulf crabs to the Atlantic crabs we're used to, so we stopped by Buddy Gandy's Seafood on West Highway 98. The first thing that surprised us was the process. Instead of ordering by the dozen like back home, you're handed a bag and a pair of tongs and told to pick out your own live crabs! Then they weigh your bag since the crabs are sold by the pound. At $6.99 per pound, we ended up with nearly two dozen crabs for right around $70. The first batch of crabs available was a little... slim pickings, so we asked if they had larger ones. The staff happily brought out another bucket, and we were able to find some much nicer-sized crabs. Everyone was friendly, courteous, and happy to help. Back at the resort, we steamed them up, and they were delicious! They were mostly full, and only one or two were light. The only disappointment? As people who've eaten both Atlantic and Gulf blue crabs, we could immediately tell these weren't Gulf crabs. They tasted like Atlantic crabs, so that took away a bit from the experience since we were hoping for something different. Overall, Buddy Gandy's gets 4 out of 5 stars from me. The seafood was good, the staff was great... but if I'm paying nearly $70 and doing the crab shopping myself, I'm knocking off that last star!

The corn was a bit over cooked and tasted cooked from frozen. The potato's were banging. The shrimp was so good. I bought a side of the garlic dipping sauce but did not use it as the cocktail sauce was so much better. Skip the garlic sauce and just go with the cooking liquid it comes in or cocktail sauce. Really you don't need a dipping sauce just eat it as is like I do the next morning for breakfast.
