Buddy's is always my favorite. I think they have the best pizza in the metro Detroit area and their minestrone soup is one of my all time favorites. The soup is a meal in itself with plenty of vegetables and very thick. I shared a pizza with a friend who likes Green Lantern pizza the best but he had never tried Buddy's before. I asked him which he liked better and he said it would be hard to decide because he likes them both. I live in Dearborn and we go to Buddy's frequently. We decided to meet up on Sunday, 5/18/25 for a relaxing dinner. A party of 6 adults. We were seated, no one really in the restaurant. Our server came over and we asked for waters all around. We ordered two appetizers. The appetizers arrived, at different times, and we ordered our dinners. They were mostly sandwiches, a pasta, a pizza and an antipasta salad. The pizza came out quickly. Then we waited, waited and waited. Never saw our server again, for quite some time. Finally, she stopped by to ask how we were enjoying everything. We said we never received any food. Never received my coffee, no extra napkins, which we asked several employees for. She finally arrived with the rest of the food. One order completely wrong and the rest were cold and not good. She never returned. A manager appeared later and said the grill was backed up. So, I guess that made the pasta dish a wrong order and stopped my coffee from coming out too. The manager gave a discount, but I really feel half of the bill should have been discounted. Any time I come to Michigan I make my way here for some great pizza. This trip was no different. Was seated quickly and taken care of well. No issues with service. Had the Detroit public tv pizza which was delicious. Also had the special chili cheese fries, which were ok. The fries were really heavy on the cheese and light on the chili. If you get these I recommend asking for some ranch. Easy parking behind the building. Cool decor in the restaurant too. A bunch of old Detroit themed pictures and such, mostly regarding the tigers. read more

What is there not to like about pizza?!!! That is probably the most food I've eaten in a year! Went with the 8 Mile, no green peppers, original crust and a thin crust (4 square). Why because why not! Both were amazing! When I eat here again (yes again I'd fly to DTW to eat at Buddy's) I'd go with the original crust. Then had the lemon cake! It was so light and decadent. The Zoo was the favorite as the simple cheese tomato and basil were flavorful enough. I had three slices and found that filling for me. But I'm glad that I not only learned about it, but had a chance to sample it when nineteen of us had an epic dinner at Buddy's Pizza in Dearborn. We had a private room in the back, and our fantastic server Jillian made sure we were well taken care of. We selected an AYCE feast of breadsticks, green salads, salads with diced meats and cheeses, and of course plenty of Detroit Style pizza. So what exactly is Detroit Style? Here's the main features. 1) It has square slices baked in a rectangular pan, The pizza is on the thicker side with soft chewy crust. The size of the pan and slices guarantee that every slice is an "outside" piece and there are zero "inside" pieces. 2) Its constructed a little differently from the pizzas I'm familiar with in NY, MA and CT. Detroit style layers the cheese right on top of the pizza dough and carefully spreads it across every square inch of the dough from corner to corner. No speck of dough is uncovered, And spreading it across the entire pan's surface eliminates the useless perimeter of dough on traditional pizzas. A bonus is the super crunchy cheesy edges! 3) Another difference is the way the sauce is applied. Not in a full layer, but with ribbons of sauce across the pie, like tiger stripes. The pizza was magnificent and our group took full advantage of the AYCE format with pepperoni, bacon, Neapolitan, and veggie combinations. Since Detroit style pizza has now become a thing in other parts for the country we knew we had to have one when in town. We checked around and Buddy's consistently came up as one of the best. The one in Dearborn, though not the original, was close to where we were staying. A big bonus was that it was warm enough to eat outside in early October - so we grabbed a patio table. Our waitress was very helpful in navigating the happy hour pricing and a discount you get when signing up for their app (its worth it!). We ordered an 8 piece Detroiter and it was very good. The crust was excellent- cheesy and crispy. The only downside was the lack of sauce - they needed a bit more sauce. We really enjoyed it - we scarfed down six of the eight pieces - leaving two slices for breakfast. read more

I came here with my team for lunch outside during the summer. This is a work favorite for larger group parties. Who doesn't like pizza? It's nice that they have outside seating, although the Michigan traffic is your background as well as the view of the back parking lot of Garrison. We were staying a few blocks away and basically stumbled on Buddy's. Our visit started with a lunch on a Wednesday afternoon around 11:45. We were promptly seated. Our waitress was friendly enough. My oldest son ordered a small pizza, my wife had an order off the lunch express (soup, salad, and breadsticks), my youngest son had 1/2 chicken fingers and fries (also express) and I had a meatball sub and fries. Wait was a little longer than I would have liked but the food was very good, portions were fair as were the prices. It was a fun atmosphere overall. A small drawback...Our waitress never asked how our food was and it took almost 15 minutes to get our check. However... My brother in law and I ended up returning on Thursday evening because from 8-close is 1/2 price domestic drafts. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly. This is both a review of Buddy's as an establishment as well as the Dearborn location specifically. Anyone who's ever lived, worked, or been within a several mile radius of this Buddy's location - even if another was closer - has been here, and multiple times. It's one of the most well-known there is. In the decades I've been coming here myself, it's always gone up and down in quality, convenience, and other factors. At best, I've seen it at a 4. At worst, I've seen it dip down to a 1. This wide range of experiences is foreboding, but it's still one of the better ones you'll find. Currently, this location is back to its bad side. The quality is subpar at best. Cold, stringy, hard pizzas. A mess of ingredients just kind of thrown in the center. Not really worth getting at the moment. Give it a few months. Appetizers are still okay, but they've been better too. Salads are great. Burgers are eh. Fries are soggy. Cheese is a little strong. Orders are made on time. Part of that punctuality may have something to do with the fact my order has had a higher chance of being wrong than right in the past year. I've been missing everything from sauces to entire menu items. I've started to check my order before leaving, when I can remember, and had to go back in and explain to the workers how they failed to give me what I paid for. Always an attitude and an excuse. Workers are totally oblivious to their surroundings. The girls act like you're interrupting their chit-chatting and gossiping and some of the guys blatantly flirt with customers and act like other paying customers are an inconvenience. I've even been given items from other people's orders, including the receipt with their name on it. I guess I can't hate that one too much, because I've saved several dollars on more expensive items this way. Rip your bags open right on the counter before you leave. It's a coin toss whether they gave you what you paid for or not. Buddy's does not care. I've brought it up and was only given an insulting and apathetic corporate response. Buddy's as an establishment seems to not be doing so well. They made some significant changes to their menu over the past few years and all of them were terrible. They stopped selling their fried chicken sandwich, which was probably the best thing they made, and have begun making two new chicken sandwiches that taste awful and aren't even mildly comparable. They also sell chicken salads now which just seem needlessly expensive for no reason other than a profit. For the time being I'd recommend going to any other location just to see if the quality is better. At the very least you may get your order right. I love the this location. Went on a Saturday night and just beat the rush at 9:30 pm. Our server was Crystal and she was a Queen! We loved her so much. She was friendly and fabulous. I like Buddies- Ive had them numerous times at different locations. A go to is of course the Antipasto salad. We got a half and half large pizza of 6 Mile and Cadillac. For some reason i remember the pizza being a bit thicker crust and having more cheese. It was still good tho. They brought back the fried Cauliflower and mixed veggies- which we got and was amazing! I ordered the Greek salad and Eastern Market, 4 square, which is a veggie pizza with vegan cheese. It was thick deep dish pizza which was hearty and delicious, a little watery due to the slice of tomato, but still good. The service was great and the waitress Moriah was very helpful and kind. I like how they accommodated vegan preferences. Although the pizza was a small personal size pizza, you could order bigger ones. The 4 piece pizza I got was a little more than $13. The larger one goes for $22. The thickness of the pizza made up for the small size I suppose so it was filling no doubt.
