We went to Mint to celebrate birthday of my son. The worst service I have experienced in a long time. Kimberly our server was the most inattentive server we had the bad luck to have! For starters, she would come to take our order if we said give us a few minutes to decide she was gone for next 25 minutes. My husband and I wanted to order 22oz steak $78 + grilled shrimps $18. She said they have surf&turf and we can get that it will come with side of mashed potatoes, carrots, and asparagus, as a better option! Without mentioning the amount of $62 that will be added instead of $18 for 5 shrimps, we paid $140 for those 5 shrimps! My son asked for a clean napkin she brought a napkin with a red lipstick spot on it. My daughter asked Kimberly to giver her few minutes to decide what she wanted to drink, guess what? Kimberly never came back to take my daughter's order, we actually had to grab her while she was chit chatting with the girls sitting on the next table after 30 minutes! When we were done with our dinner 1/4th of my 22oz bone in steak and 1/4 of my son's bone in steak (bones removed) was leftover sitting on the platter, she came grabbed the platter never asked us if wanted it boxed, she vanished with it and we are sitting looking at each other thinking she is packing it for take away. Nope never saw the steak again! We ordered 2 appetizers! Calamari came in 15minutes delivered by kitchen staff! We finished that, our second appetizer of tuna tartar came 15 minutes later we ate that, both were delivered by kitchen staff! We sat outside, 5 ppl, with 5 place plate setting of big plates on 2 small round tables. Our entrees came while we have the empty appetizer platters still on the tables, along with 5 water glasses, 4 bottled drinks with ice in the glasses for 4 people and the kitchen staff standing with entrees platters waiting for US to clear the tables so that they can put those entrees down. We collected the plates to make space, because our server never came back after taking order though we saw her continuously stopping by the other table of 2 girls with whom she was planning to meet with at the cigar lounge after work. After we were done with dinner she came back to clear the table (that is after she vanished with our leftover steak) this time my daughter had to stop her and ask her to please bring us a take away box for our leftover sides. She asked us if we wanted dessert. I told her to give us 5 minutes to decide, she left and came back after 20 minutes (Mind you by then the restaurant was almost empty) I asked her do you have a pastry chef? She said yes after a brief pause, I guess I should have realized at that time that she was not being truthful! May be 1 or 2 of their desserts are made in house as we found out when we ended up ordering chocolate cake. That chocolate cake quality and taste were a match to the chocolate cake sold at Restaurant Depot. My point is that they should tell you what is made in house and what is not! people are paying you obnoxious amount of money! They deserve to be told the truth but for that your server has to pay attention to what she is doing! Our server was already at the cigar lounge with her friends in her mind! 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill! For substandard service and below average food. We paid $483 almost $500. We were tricked to pay $62 extra for 5 shrimps 3 tasteless carrots 4 asparagus pcs stale tasteless mashed potatoes, we initially ordered 5 pcs of grilled shrimps for $18 but then our server said that their "surf&turf" was a better deal instead! What We did not understand at that time was that this was a better deal for the restaurant not the customer! I have been visiting Mint for past few years but the deterioration of food and service quality was shocking. And to have the audacity to charge us 20% gratuity as a standard was the last straw! Mint 29 is a nice upscale restaurant that can get pretty busy, so I would recommend reservations. They have street parking or lots behind the restaurant. I came with my family for my 29th birthday and enjoyed everything, they had good portion sizes, so I thought the value was definitely there. I ordered the soup of the day to start, as I was a bit under the weather, and it definitely hit the spot. For other starters, we got the assorted bread and dips, brussel sprouts, and burrata, where I think the burrata was my winner. I got the KBBQ salmon as my entree, which I thought had great flavor. We just stayed in the area overnight as we were continuing on to the upper peninsula. The at the hotel recommended this place. Wow, what recommendation! The food was amazing. We had the soup of the day, which was an exotic mushroom soup. I have to say i've had somebody good soup in my time, but it's hands-down the best soup I've ever had. Flavor was "ok", but this bone-in rib eye was one of the toughest pieces of leather I'd ever been served - just horrible. 75% gristle and despite asking for it medium rare, they destroyed the spinalis. Service was "OK". Took us flagging down the inattentive first server for another cocktail. The second server that took over was slightly better. My kid got the mac and cheese - she said it was super oily and she didn't eat the majority of it. Ambience was nice - it's located in the building where Dearborn Music was in the 70's and 1980's (and most of the 90's). I went to Mint 29 and sat at the bar. Ordered the lobster and the filet. No bread, no salad, everything is a la carte. Food arrived and my lobster was about 4oz, and it was good. The filet was burnt on both sides. The ribeye was burnt and charred on both sides. The ribeye tasted like it was in a house fire. The nice server was notified and she told me that they would re-do it again and apologized. The ribeye came out a second time and it was burnt even thicker and more charred than the first time. What the? Who does? The cook or chef definitely was vindictive and made my ribeye even worst. Don't understand how an eatery could allow this to happen. The manager was very nice and comped my meal. He was patient (it was about 15 ladies). When it was time to check out (gratuity is already included) one of the ladies was going to add an extra tip (she had a charge card), but the server graciously declined and told her that the tip has already been included and thanked her anyway.
