The service is terrific, the bar is roomy, the pours are strong, and the bartenders are the best. They don't mess around, chit chat too long, or forget to bring you water. Happy hour is a deal. The wings are meaty and tasty and the size of other bars' regular wings (they're twice as big at other times). I love the pimento cheese, especially when they stuff it in an avocado and bake it (though the dish could use crackers or tortilla chips on the side). Okay..I live walking distance from Buddy's Place. I have dropped by a few times and usually service is mediocre (waitress acted like she had better places to be) but the food is pretty uh decent, I guess. Well then one night when I went... my boyfriend and I sat there for 15 minutes waiting on someone to come talk to us and take our order....so we just left. So we have not been back since...kind of makes you feel like crap when you walk into a restaurant and no one waits on....it is kind of embarrassing :-/ I probably won't be going back. *EDIT* 7/14/2017- went to Buddy's last night and the service was great. I stop into buddys pretty regularly, they are definitely a staple of Richmond. You're likely to see a familiar face whenever you stop in if you're from the area. The food is good and the happy hour is one of the best in the area as well. Visited new buddy's for the first time. It has earned its 2 1/2 star rating. Bar was packed...they should stick with drinks so no one knows how bad the food is. From a food perspective, this place is utter garbage. Selection: unappealing. Execution: sickening--literally; three went into the bar, and three left with mild food poisoning. Service: Absolute garbage; we waited for two sandwiches and some nachos for over an hour. It seems like they have decent bar following, which has to be because their happy hour prices are pretty low, not because their drinks are any good. We go to Buddy's more often than I'd like to admit. Why? It's close, friendly staff, consistent food, half-off burger Wednesday's, happy hour drinks and snacks, BOGO breakfasts on the weekends, mimosa pitchers, Bloody Mary bar, awesome grilled Caesar, lots of TVs, tons of seating. What's not to love? The food isn't gourmet. But it's definitely above average for a bar. I also appreciate the very diverse and mostly laid back clientele. Buddy's is my favorite neighborhood bar because I can walk there, they space is pretty big, and they have a great happy hour that runs Mon-Fri until 7pm. However, I am not a fan of their food here. I have had several instances where they are out of food I wanted to order, I don't get what I have ordered, or it's just not good quality. Buddy's is a great place to eat and hang out. The crowd is a mix of old and young people. There are a lot of people who have been going to Buddy's for years, but if you are a newbie, you are very, very welcome! The beer selection and wait staff are great. They remember you every time you walk in! The tots are the best I've had in Richmond. As someone who has traveled and eaten in the finest restaurants, I would say the food is really good at Buddy's. Try the bloody mary bar at brunch. We tried the monthly crab feasts this summer and they were the best crabs I have ever had. read more

Don't let the outside fool you, Buddy's is actually fairly big inside. Every time I've been in there's a mix of older folks and 30-somethings. The appetizers are great, and well worth it during happy hour. The wait staff is not very attentive if you sit down at a booth. Also, only the appetizers were good. I've tried several things on the menu and wasn't happy. For one thing, the wilted salad instead of being lightly drizzled with warm bacon fat had congealed fat from the grill (it didn't taste like bacon, more like hamburger grease) that was cold and funky tasting. Started off great, waters and drinks came timely. We were ready to order by the time our drinks arrived, but the server said she'd be right back. She never did, so about 10 minutes later another server arrived to take our order. We received our food before the table across from us that ordered before us, and the food was sub par to put it nicely. This is definitely more of a watering hole, but I would suggest condensing the menu, so the food can improve. We got eggs Benedict with grits and roasted potatoes with two eggs over easy that took about 30 minutes. There were only about 10 people ordering food in the place. On the bright side they did comp our drinks which was nice, but we probably won't be back anytime soon. Hope Buddy's can bring it back soon for how long they have been in RVA! read more

I've been here around 5-10 times, and have only had fun once. The crowd was either old guys at happy hour, or jam packed at night where I wouldn't stay more than 5 mins. Food was horrendous. Went for brunch on a Saturday. Fairly empty, which is fine. They offered to bring my son some paper and crayons, which they didn't have to do. My friend and I ordered eggs Benedict and corn beef hash, both of which come with runny eggs. All the yolks we received were cooked through. We asked them to fix it and they did and both plates were amazingly delicious!!! I only wish I could have ate it all! Also, really yummy mimosas! read more
