I was unfortunately very uncomfortable with my experience, as I discovered a significant amount of hair in my sandwich. At that point, I was quite disturbed. A staff member who was seated nearby asked how my sandwich was, and I informed him of the issue. The bartender kindly refunded my meal, which I truly appreciated, especially since I did not request it. I want to emphasize that I hesitated to share this because the food is otherwise absolutely delicious. Food- good and large portions. Was hot and fresh except for potatoes. Too much seasoning and was cold but eggs, bacon and pancakes perfect. Service- meh! Two waitresses for an entire restaurant. My server took my order brought food and never came back. Another server had to get me a to go plate and my check after o waited 15 minutes. Saw this place on TikTok and was intrigued by the club sandwich and the bacon cheese fries. Upon arrival I saw people waiting outside and was a little nervous that there was a long wait. A hello would have been nice. Someone dropped off some menus and took our drink orders. As we sat there looking at the menus I quickly realized this is probably the loudest bar I've ever been in. It was so annoying. I couldn't hear the person across from me talk but I could clearly hear every word coming out of the loud patrons mouths around me. I don't think I've ever wanted to eat outside so badly. A different person took food orders. We got mozzarella sticks which were a tad pricey imo especially for the location but they came out in a fine amount of time, were good and hot and had the thickest marinara sauce I've ever seen. Clubs sandwiches were good and the fries were fine-shoulda asked about bacon and cheese. I can't offer an opinion on drinks-didn't order one because I wanted to get out of there but the shots poured for others were hefty-we love good value for money. Id try here again and hope for quieter patrons or maybe get it to go assuming you can do that. read more

Sidewalk Cafe is easily one of my favorite places to grab brunch in the Fan. It's a no-frills experience where the food is always good and you never leave hungry. The interior itself can be a bit dark, and has a nice dive bar feel without being dirty. I typically order the Cajun Hash for brunch which is simply massive and always ensures that I have at least one full meal of leftovers for later. The hash is seasoned well and potatoes are cooked through perfectly, being soft while not falling apart. The last time I went, however, I decided to switch things up and for the first time order something off the main menu: the Chicken Parmigiana and a Caesar Salad. The salad was delicious with good flavor without being over dressed, and the chicken was moist with a good balance of cheese to sauce. It was honestly better than what you'll find at many Italian restaurants. And true to form I also left with at least one more meal in hand. The food here is inexpensive, particularly considering the portion size and quality, with entrees costing around $15. The only caveat of coming here - the operation is small and so service can be slow when they're busy. So come with good company, have patience, and just enjoy the Sidewalk Cafe for what it is. read more

I suspected something with the shooting in front a while back but we went in yesterday April 19th 2026 and it was packed with people that just stunk like pot. No hope of seating but in reality we did not want to it took 15 minutes for the odor of pot to leave our clothing. It was a horrible vibe in a place we always had cherished. My experience here was good. I came in on a Friday afternoon and was able to find street parking on the side of the building. I walk in and it's a cute neighborhood bar and everyone was super friendly. I got the cheesesteak and potato skins. I would be in here every evening if I lived in RVA. The atmosphere is great -- mix of a classic southern diner and a dive bar. Drinks were poured heavy, and super affordable. It was towards the end of the night and our group were all pretty torn up from bar hopping so needed some food and this was the best possible choice. Grabbed a massive sandwich and chips for under $13, that was perfect to soak up the day's festivities and get me back into the living. The menu was also huge and offered a ton of different options. Love this spot! It's one of those places that just feels authentic and local and hasn't changed in forever because it doesn't need to. I've been for brunch, lunch, and dinner, and it's a fun and quaint atmosphere any time of day. On the weekend there's often a bit of a wait (they don't take reservations) but it's worth it! The bathrooms are tiny though (probably the smallest I've ever seen) and definitely not accessible, just FYI. Brunch: I got the Greg's big breakfast. Best deal to get all the options! And of the course the mimosa pitcher. Lunch: the club sandwich was classic and timeless. Also recommend the onion rings - they make them really good!! Small up-charge from the fries but worth it Dinner: the sidewalk spaghetti - WOW. there's a lot of places in Richmond that serve big plates of spaghetti and this is absolutely one of the best. Found this spot after a show as it was one of the few places open for late night food. We arrived at approximately 11:30 pm. There was a good size crowd at the bar and about half of the tables were full. It's a rather small place but I'm sure it's a good size for their needs. The restrooms are extremely small and they share a sink. They definitely could use some updates. We sat down and were greeted right away by our waitress. It looked as if she was waiting on the entire restaurant part by herself. That being said we never had to ask for anything as she was always checking on us. We had a burger and fries, a bean burger, and a bowl of soup. The soup was the best part. The bean burger my wife ordered she did not care for. My burger was just ok. The fries were decent. I guess it served our purpose for getting some food on our stomachs before our drive back home. I think it is better suited for just a bar. JMO read more

My wife and I enjoyed our meal. We ordered the baked spaghetti and the chicken Kabobs. They came with wonderful salads and bread. The chicken on the kabobs was cooked a little long, but it was still good. The baked spaghetti was great and the portion was incredible. Needless to say we had plenty to take home. My friend had warned me that Sidewalk has huge portions, and she was not kidding. My hoagie was massive. I had to ask for aluminum foil and put the other half in my purse for the next day. The vibe inside was chill, though I don't think I'd sit next to the door again when it's in the low 20s outside. There's no buffer and people kept walking in and out nonstop. I definitely need to stop back for brunch and to try more of their menu. Those nachos, for example, looked delightful. I just needed to come here to sing the praises of that sub. A solid Fan brunch spot! On a Sunday without reservations and a desire for mimosas, Sidewalk came in clutch for me and a friend! When our original rooftop plan fell through due to weather, we drove around for a bit & saw that it looked like we might be able to snag a seat at Sidewalk without a wait, which isn't necessarily easy for Sunday brunch at around 10:30 a.m. We found easy nearby parking, snagged one of the last few open booths and had ourselves a great ole' brunch. The key? $11 mimosa pitchers, baby! And these are not small pitchers or heavily watered down either. A good deal that speaks straight to my bargain brunching heart.
