Budget Rental Car is tucked away in a strip mall in Elk Grove of which shares the parking lot (where their rentals are parked) with all the other stores and restaurants in the parking lot. When we first arrived to pick up our car by appointment, we waited at least 10 minutes before a technician came out from the back, who went back to get the counter clerk to help us. The front waiting area had 4-5 chairs for seating, but I chose to stand because the chairs did not look clean with soiled stains on each. The rental price was as reserved, with an additional $15/day for a second driver. The clerk was nice, but difficult to understand. However, she made sure we understood everything, and inspected the car with us before leaving. The car (Toyota Camry ) drove well for us, but we did have to clean the windows from smudges, probably from a soiled towel. Thankfully, that wasn't a big deal and was inconsequential to the cars great performance. Though it may not be easy finding a parking place in the lot, I was satisfied with the service and rental from them. read more

Customer service at the store sucks. I made a reservations for pick up a Saturday at noon. We get there at 11:55am and the location was already closed. There were at least 3 other customers outside the store and one lady was there at 11:45am. We all called customer service and complained about this. They said that they were going to cancel my reservation, refund the money and offered me a 2 day free rental. Non were honored and I needed to escalate the issue with corporate before getting my money back. I rented a car for more than 30 days and paid all the cost and took over a month to get a refund from the original reservation. read more

Worst Budget Car Rental ever. Rent from a different location. I've used Budget many times since my work offers discounts on Budget rentals. I usually rent from the downtown locations and the SMF airport. I thought to try this place since it was close to my house. I reserved and prepaid online about a week before picking it up. I'm at the counter. The lady there tells me that my vehicle isn't available. I mean, why though? She goes on to say that they can't refund me because that's the policy and that they're technically "not doing anything wrong," since she already offered me a minivan in lieu of my reserved vehicle and I didn't accept. She said all they do is provide the vehicle. Welp... it wasn't provided. She also told me not cancel since I'll lose my money but to just move my date. How the hell am I going to move a trip I had already planned? She told me to call Budget customer service to sort things out since she won't be able to transfer my reservation to a different location. Customer service said she had the ability to transfer my reservation. I won't stop using Budget, but definitely will never go to this specific location again. I went to a different Budget and got a vehicle in time for my trip. The lady at the second location said that that the Elk Grove location is a franchise. Not sure if it actually is, but even so, I will not be supporting an unprofessional business. Trust the reviews. read more

Had a smooth experience from pick up to drop off and the man that assisted me was nice and professional.

When you think of renting a car, standard experience. What I did NOT like: The wait. Why must I wait an hour for pickup or dropoff? Had I have known, I would not have rented from here. I've had a faster experience with a busy airport. I came for convenience of location as to close distance to home; however, it would've been quicker if I went elsewhere. I have never had an experience in which they told me to vacuum before I return it. I thought that's part of what I pay for? The lady I spoke with when I picked up said if there is sand or glitter to ensure I vacuumed, totally understood. The gentleman at the counter was telling people to bring car as it was, to vacuum before return. Again, convenience. I'd rather pay an extra dollar or two per day than have to take my own time to vacuum before return. Also, why the differences between the two individuals at the counter. Won't return to this location. I'd rather go somewhere where I feel I'm getting what I paid for. Lesser time in store and more customer focused. Hire someone else to man the counters on busy days, and make sure all employees on same page. read more

Was in an accident hit by a truck from Budget Sacramento these clowns have not bothered to answer any calls in over a month regarding repairs to my vehicle. Apparently this is normal behavior according to my insurance company but they are quite active iin calling f they are the ones hit. I am giving this review via Budget I won't go here again, the customer service from the Lady was ok, not that friendly to talk to. She kept going on about no pets in the car, which I understand; we got to the car and saw i had pet hairs on my pants, my pets weren't going to go in the car, yet again she mention no pets in the car. It was raining that morning so the rain drops covered up some blemishes that couldn't be noted, when I got home there was a scruff mark on the bumper, sure enough she tried to get that on me and I told her that was there before and couldn't be seen due to the rain. As well as another review, she nitpicked at the fuel, I made sure I got fuel to go full, normal people would stop when you hear a click, unless your car has fuel issues, rental cars are pretty new so shouldn't have that issue yet she was adamant that it has to be fuel pass the click! So I went to fuel again pass the click yet i didn't want to do too much in case of overflow, and she still nitpicked and charge the fuel cost, which was 16 bucks. It's full to me, yet not to her. According to her, you're suppose to go past the click when it tells you it's done. Also according to her, the newer cars don't have tire caps as I told her mine didn't have any so I went out of my way to get them. Luckily I got a good deal through Cosco so will just have to eat up the dumb fuel charge. read more

Ive been here twice now. My company car has been in the shop a lot, and ive needed a car. Thankfully they've been able to help me last min. The wife/mom/owner, is a very sweet, kind woman. The customer service was extremely rude! I rented a vehicle and drove less than 2 miles. The maintenance required light turns on and I went back to exchange the vehicle. She, the lady at the counter, says no worries you can still drive it! I said I was going on a long road trip and needed reliability. She said she had another car but it also needed service! Just wondering if it's normal practice to rent out cars that need maintenance even if it's for an oil change! I even offered to come back in a couple of hours for a oil change to be done and she said that's not the way it works!!!!!!! Poor business operation!!!!!! I called per the promotion on tv for an SUV or Economy car, however, EVERY Budget did not participate in the promotion in the entire northern area, from the Delta area to San Francisco. What's the point of advertising a promotion when it only works in Hawaii, Canada, and states so far away, that I might as well drive my own car. The online system didn't work no matter what information was entered or changed, AND when I called directly, the rep sounded drunk, and wasn't of much help, leaving such ridiculously long pauses on the phone, to the point that I had to say HELLO? because I thought they hung up. Only giving 3 stars because the car itself worked out well. Upon arriving there were people standing around everywhere and not being helped, but I will say, this place was understaffed. Only one person to help all these people and one guy doing all the car cleaning and maintenance. The inside looked dirty. I didn't even want to sit on the chairs because they were so stained and dirty. I had originally scheduled my pickup for 10:30am but I was running late, so I called to extend the pickup time to 11:45am which they agreed to. When I got there, the worker tells me "oh don't worry, I'll have a car for you". I'm standing there like ??? Yeah...I expect there to be a car since I reserved it and already paid for it. So I waited about another 20 min before being helped. The car had just got done even though my original pickup time was 10:30. I felt bad for the worker. They were super overwhelmed and didn't have any help. The same thing happened when I went to drop the car off, I waited 10 minutes in the lobby that was completely empty until the worker finally came up to help. They went outside to check the car and gas so I followed. When they were done they just started walking inside and I said "do I need anything else? Do I need to sign anything?" And they just said "nope" and walked away. The experience could've been worse, but overall I didn't enjoy it and will not be returning to this location. The car availability is hit or miss so be prepared for them to potentially not have your car you've reserved. read more

This place is horrible. The customer service is horrible. The one lady who is in charge isn't professional at all. She rented me a keyed up SUV with cigarette burn holes throughout the SUV. The SUV maintenance light was on.The SUV drove slow. When I told her about the issues,she told me to call corporate. Corporate took care of the situation by giving me some money back. I tried to rent a second time, but they took my money and declined me a rental because she said my score was low. I asked what score? are you inquiring about. She couldn't give me a straight answer. She started double talking and handed me a piece of paper with a phone number to call corporate to get my refund. How you take my money but decline me a rental. Then tell me I have to wait 3 to 10 business days for my refund on a service I did not get. I went straight to ENTERPRISE,and they took care of me in a matter of minutes. ENTERPRISE was professional with a nice selection of cars and with no issues. Goodbye Budget!!! read more

Should have checked the reviews. I prepaid for a week, but when I picked up my car lady was like, oh, there's still a $16 balance. She don't know why. Than she tells me is $36 if you're an hour late, but if you're a day late is $35 because that makes sense. So I returned the car a day late knowing the charge but of course when I return it oh it's $60 charge now. Wtf? It's $20 charge of you're late but you don't call and check in? I rented my car through Costco so I could find the best deal. I found a great deal with Budget for a full size SUV. I booked it a week in advance and luckily it was available. I was planning to head down with my family to SoCal so I needed the space. I came here around 430pm on a Thursday and luckily for me there was only one person in front of me. Also, this place is located between Dollar Tree and Thai Chili. It's combined with Avis but they're all the same. Back to the car now, when it was my turn to speak with the employee, I was informed that the car I wanted was given away. Of course to my dismay, I was vastly disappointed because I specifically wanted the car I booked. The employee told me not to worry and that she had another car instead. I went outside to check it out and luckily, the car was doable but a lot smaller. It was the only car available on a Thursday evening and they were sold out on everything. Of course, I took the car since I was leaving that Thursday night with my family. They went through the normal routine before I took full possession of the car. Car was dirty on the outside but the inside was clean. I drove it for three days and had no issues at all. When I returned it, I got charged a cleaning fee since there was a couple of grass pieces in the trunk. They let me clean it up but required every last piece be gone. I took the cleaning fee and did not want to deal with it anymore. I was vastly disappointed. It seemed like they wanted the car spotless. I'm not sure if I'll be back here again. read more

First time here and the lady up front was extremely sweet and helpful. I was getting added as the second driver to a vehicle and it was no hassle at all. Super convenient- No CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT required, only your driver's license. Initialed here and there and was in and out in no time. Every car rental establishments may have flaws here and there, all you need is to just simply request it and they'll be more than happy to accommodate your needs. Budget had the best rates over all rental companies, I checked all of them prior to booking. The woman at this office will try do everything in her power to rip you off. Do not book through her office. Go online and handle it. If she tries to raise the price call the 800 number and they will take care of it. I wasn't falling for her "special price for you today." Very helpful and friendly. Came in to rent a compact car for a state to state business trip. Normally I just go about my business and rent the car and go. However this occurrence was memorable. Needed a car for a road trip and found Budget with the best offer online. We were able to get a Full Size car for what others were offering at an Economy or Compact price. At pick up the young lady who helped us was nice and friendly. We prepaid online and she just verified our agreement before getting the car. We got a Kia Optima, nice and super clean with low miles. Great gas mileage to go to SoCal and back. The drop off was simple and easy. Greeted by a young man who was just as nice as pleasant as our pick up person. We had a great experience here at our local Budget Rental Car and will definitely come back if we need to rent again. read more

Had the car for two weeks. I was charged an extra $10 to vacuum which was ridiculous being there was not much to even vacuum especially being I had it two weeks. The car should not be required to be vacuum free upon return after two weeks. Rip off. Won't rent from this location again. read more

This Budget rental place does not wash their cars very well. The exterior of my vehicle was very dirty. It was obvious the vehicle wasn't washed. I would normally get another vehicle but I was in a hurry to an appointment. The interior of the car was very clean. I have rented vehicles all over the US and this vehicle I rented was probably one of the dirtiest I have ever seen. Note: I would highly recommend reserve your vehicle online. It would be nice to inform your customers of a toll violation instead of reporting it directly to dmv. Maybe be like the major locations and get the toll device. You would keep customers.. Defintely staying with the airport location, because at least they dont put the fear of God for using their vehicles. You sucked all the fun out of an experience, because you want to scare us about additional charges for dirt. Oh no dirt :/ if only you kept the cars as clean as your threats.... I would not recommend Budget! Once we were on the road we discovered that the car's two 12 volt chargers and the USB charger did not work, which we needed for conference calls throughout the week we rented the car. We contacted the owner who said we had to resolve the issue ourselves by calling Budget locations along our route to exchange the vehicle, we tried for hours, none of the budget offices answered their phones. We contacted the national office and they couldn't get a hold of the offices either and the only way we could exchange the car was to travel two hours out of our way and they refused to compensate us for the inconvenience. When we turned in the car, the owner was only interested in her revenue---no concern for customer service. I've never had this problem with Enterprise. read more

Our first time here and we had a very good experience. Rama was very sweet and very helpful she welcomed us with a big smile. She treated us like were family and that was very very nice. She made sure that we got everything that we need and not trying to sell us things more things like other companies too.
