I rented a car to drive my daughter to College for move in weekend. The Nissan Rouge they rented me broke down on the Grapevine!!!!! Stranded there for hours, before being towed to LAX where my rental car was exchanged. The Hertz at LAX said to NEVER rent from a local place as they notoriously do not keep up with their car maintenance like the airport places do. Once home in EG I went to the office and tried to get 1/2 off since I did have usage of a car for an entire day. They said - I can't do anything for you. Worst experience. I took the time to research and plan a trip down south for a short trip and prepaid for my reservation. I arrived at my specified date/time to pick up my car. When I arrived, the manager was helping someone else and we waited for another 15mins or so then she asked for my CDL & started processing everything. It wasn't until we asked to be sure what we reserved was the car we were ACTUALLY getting but she finally tells me after we had to ask that they only had EVs which DOESN'T work for me as I'm traveling over 800 miles back & forth for a super short trip & I'm already crunched on time. I've never driven an EV and really don't have the time to deal with finding a charging station on a trip & route I'm not familiar with at all. Thought it was super shady that it wasn't something she asked or confirmed before moving forward. Needless to say, we left and had to scramble to find another car rental. Please read the other reviews as well as I'm SO shocked they're still in business here. The website never stated that 'similar' on a compact car would be an EV. I told the manager & she acknowledged that they recently updated the site & that small but critical detail to me was removed from the site & that she has requested for it to be added back onto the site. Had it stated that I 'might' receive an EV then it would be on me and I would've decided not to book my reservation in advance or prepaid. Now I've wasted 2 hours of my tight schedule to find another rental and have to deal with getting a refund. Absolutely will never rent here again. I decided to rent a car because we were headed out on a business trip and didn't have time to wash my own vehicle and decided to rent a car. My pass experience renting vehicles usually with Enterprise Rental Car had been great!! I've never received a dirty vehicle. When we picked the car up I noticed that the car wasn't washed properly. The windows were spotted, outside mirrors were spotted to the point it was hard looking out the windows. Bugs on the front windows and front bumper. This isn't a clean car. When we asked about a different vehicle, we were told that the only vehicle that they had was a Jeep and it was dirty. When we were out of town on our business trip the car cut off while sitting at a red light at a busy intersection. It didn't start for almost 10 minutes. I called the store location and was told that they didn't have another car to give me. The next day I attempted to drive it again and on my way to work the car cut off in a drive through while I was picking up food. I ended up catching rides to work until it was time to head back home from out of town. When the car was returned there was no manager in to compensate for the car breaking down and the car being rented out dirty. We still haven't received a call from the Area Manager or the store manager. Also, I was told from the store manager who rented us the car that she personally washed the car. Someone needs to show her what a washed vehicle looks like. I was in a collision on 3/5/2020. Once my insurance claim was approved, State Farm set up my initial rental with Hertz Rent A Car. I read the reviews, was concerned about how my experience would be. I even contacted State Farm requesting a different rental company. Hertz was my only option unless I wanted to pay without my insurance company. I visited the rental company on Friday the 6th to make sure my reservation was all set up, they had the upgraded vehicle I'd need and a few other matters. On the 9th I dropped my car off at Caliber Collision and a Lyft/Uber picked me up and took me to the Hertz facility. Matt was very helpful, the paperwork was ready and quick to complete. I was in and out in a short period of time. The Jeep Compass was clean, had nearly a full tank of gas, newer and a smaller version SUV but an adequate, comparable for my needs. Because of delays in my car repairs I reached out to Hertz a couple of times. Matt was very helpful throughout. My overall experience with Hertz was better than I anticipated. Thank you!! read more

My boyfriend made a reservation for a car under the "special manager" deal. After he reserved the car, there were NO indications on what kind of car it is until we got there and was told it's a EV car. First of all, we are renting a car to drive all the way from EG to San Diego. Using an EV car is not ideal. There was no indication on the website or confirmation receipt regarding it being an EV. You would think it's kind of important for the customer to know especially if it's for long distance driving. Second, we told them we don't want the EV and they mentioned they can give us an SUV instead because no other cars are available and they said "dealerships don't make gas only cars anymore". Which is NOT true. I felt like they were not upfront and just wanted to pawn off the EV cars that weren't making them money out. That's a scam or wild advertising scheme to get you in the door. Third, on the first day we arrived in San Diego, the SUV we got had an error message saying the key fob battery was low. That is NOT the customers responsibility to buy a new battery for a fob. We did not feel it was fair for us to work harder for them. Needless to say we didn't enjoy the customer service or how the company is not transparent with what is reserved. First time using hertz was a disaster. I made reservation for 10:30 as a gold plus member. Didn't skip the line like is often advertised. I didn't even get keys until after half an hour and didn't leave until 1 hour after my scheduled pick up. The twist is they said they didn't have the car I reserved wasn't here and to come back around 3. So they gave me a ford SUV for the meantime. Until I got my luxury class like i reserved on the app. I said that was fine. I called around 2:40-2:55 to ask if I should come over and they said they're busy and will call me back. I didn't go far because I new I had to go back. Then I get there after I missed the call because I was driving over there so now I'm directed to go to another location 15 miles away in the heat of traffic. When I got there took awhile to get served even at this location even though it looked desolate. It's super hard to pull out the packed and tight parking lot. But I did get what I reserved. I got a Cadillac SUV. The tank was almost empty. Other than that it fine until I notice the car might need an early oil change. Take away is this The car I recently purchased has been a significant disappointment, mainly due to its poor performance. It struggles to accelerate, even when driving on flat terrain, and has difficulty maintaining a consistent speed on the highway. The engine seems to labor under the strain, and I have noticed that the car often stalls when I attempt to overtake other vehicles. This has not only made my driving experience unpleasant but also put me in potentially dangerous situations on the road. To make matters worse, the customer support provided by the dealership has been inadequate. When I have encountered problems with the car, I have found it difficult to get in touch with someone who can provide helpful advice or assistance. Additionally, the dealership's response time has been slow, and I have been left feeling unsupported and frustrated. In conclusion, my experience with this car has been far from satisfactory. The poor performance, subpar fuel efficiency, uncomfortable interior, unreliable safety features, and inadequate customer support have all contributed to a disappointing and frustrating experience. I cannot recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable driving experience. I'm waiting to hear back from a rep it's been longer than the time they said they would be reaching out. My wife made a reservation for a 1 week rental, coming out to roughly $350, all included. However, she forgot to add me as a 2nd driver. When we went to pick up the car, we asked about adding me, and it was supposed to cost $15 extra a day or roughly $120 total. Kind of expensive if you ask me, but we agreed. The associate asked us if we wanted "standard" coverage and we said yes. When it came time to drop off, we were hit with a $350 fee total. The fee is so ridiculous that we could've rented TWO cars instead of 1 for that price. I guess that's what "standard" means, even though the fee wasn't at all made clear to us. When my wife called Hertz.com for an explanation, we were told "that's' what you signed". I guess they don't want repeat business. read more

I can't not recommend this place enough. The staff is completely incompetent. Long lines, understaffed compared to other rental car services. They were unable to fulfill my reservation, or cancel the reservation. While in front of a huge line they expect you to call the customer service number in front of everyone to deal with your reservation and the front desk can't actually handle anything themself for you including the manager. Then you call and call and can't even get through to anyone. They left me without a car after already paying. This is a corporate issue I'm sure as I just had the same experience at another Hertz and Dollar. Avoid Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty completely. If you have any issues they will leave you in the dirt. read more

Not sure if it was me or customer service it's just horrible. I called as soon as opening hours started remained on hold for 20 minutes. When I was eventually able to speak to a representative they were quite rude and offered little assistance I had to ask all questions about my pending reservation. I then requested a pickup from my home as this location offers it and I was told I'm 0.5 mi out of the boundary. An exception was made however when I arrived at the rental car location I was told they do not accept PayPal credit cards I believe the manager thought it was a prepaid card but I reiterated that it wasn't. Luckily I have multiple credit cards this was no issue but just very inconvenient. I do hope they do better I will be making this report to Hertz corporation as well. read more

Needing to book a rental car for a last minute work-related trip, I searched online for the best deal that I could find on a compact size vehicle. After locating a great deal at a nearby Hertz, I booked the reservation. Later that day I headed to Hertz to pick up the vehicle. I don't know about you, but whenever I pull up to a rental car establishment, I always do a quick survey of the possible vehicles that I may be subjected to. That particular evening, the compact size options were limited to two Hyundai's. Nothing against Hyundai, but their entry-level vehicles do not offer the best levels of comfort for long road trips. When I entered Hertz I was warmly greeted by an employee by the name of Hameed. After verifying my identification, he proceeded to search the lot for available vehicles. When I mentioned that I would be driving 5+ hours to Southern California, out of the kindness of his heart, he upgraded (for free) me to a mid-sized Ford Fusion. Not just any Ford Fusion, but a Ford Fusion Hybrid! Not only would I be driving in a comfortable vehicle, but I would also save a significant amount of cash at the pump....talk about a win-win! After showing me a few key features of the vehicle (I've never had this done at any other rental car company), he handed over the key fob and sent me on my way. When my son and I returned the vehicle two days later, Hameed was there to assist us. I could tell that he genuinely cared about whether or not the car fulfilled my needs for the trip. I was ecstatic to tell him that I only spent $48 round trip in gas (roughly 800 total miles traveled), and on a different note, my son was excited to ride in a hybrid for the first time (he is infatuated with hybrids and Teslas). I highly recommend this Hertz location if you're looking for an efficient, quality customer service experience! read more

Had to called them to see what's the deal, all I got by an employee (******) is that it was a mistake on their part, he supposed to work on the credit but so far there is no credit because their corporate office needs to complete the credit, what. If the job had been done correctly none of this mistakes would happened. Not only did I get charge for fuel, but the car they give me was dirty, trash, and smell of cigarettes smoke so bad that my eyes got watered as I'm driving. We had a rental no choice we got sent to this place by Chevrolet back in February. we got the only car they had according to Ana the car was beyond dirty in and out. Rental for 1 day brought in the car after filing up gas tank then front desk lady named Ana received car keys and asked some guy to take us back to Chevrolet in the same rental car to pick up our truck , 3 weeks later we got a letter from hertz charging for gas . when we topped it off before turning the car in. Called the office trying to talk to her manager Courtney .according to Ana the manager wasn't there at that moment and she was to busy with other customers, she promised to reach back to us and she never did . I am giving them 1 star because the female employee that was working when I picked up my rental--she was very nice! The car was clean and in great condition-things were fine !! But then I misplaced the rental car key and after tearing apart my house...I went back to the HERTZ office, explained what happened, and asked for their help on what to do. I was handed a small slip of paper that listed the Hertz´ 24 hour roadside assistance number. I was told that I would have to pay for the key/lock change and cost would be @ $300.00. It was my fault so I couldn´t say much but here is the ridiculous part. ** I CALLED THEIR 24/7 ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PEOPLE. My call went right to a voice recorded system leaving me on hold for 35 min, then 45 minutes, then 2 hrs, (yes, you read that right), then 2 hrs, then 40 min, then 2 hrs again, then 1 hr...over the course of 3 days, I sat on hold @ 10 hrs per day. **FREAKING CRAZY** meanwhile I am being charged for every extra day that the car just sits. I am unable to get into the car and get my stuff out o it, I can NOT return it because I can NOT start it or drive it without a key !! (and time-there goes another 2 hrs Ive been left on hold without ever getting to speak to anyone) RIDICULOUS !!!!!! read more

While my vehicle was in a shop I rented a vehicle from this location. During the inspection of the vehicle we realized that the gas tank was under a quarter tank (about 45 miles until empty). The sales associate noticed that the gas tank was way under the half tank level it was supposed to be at and to just bring it back at the same tank level instead, and that he was going to change the information to reflect this in the computer. So we went about our week, and returned the vehicle once ours was repaired. About a week after that while checking my bank account I noticed that they had billed me 70 dollars. I called them and was told it was due to the gas tank not being filled to a half tank, which was supposed to be the original tank level. But I told them about what happened during inspection, and also talked to the same sales associate that helped us the first time. His response was that he doesn't recall. So after about three or four different times of calling and haggling with them they offered us a refund. But the refund is going to take 14-21 business days to get back. For one, I had money taken out of my account which should've never happened in the first place and now have to wait almost a month to get it back, and two instead of filling the tank to a half tank level if that was the original agreement in the first place they decided to fill the tank up all the way and then bill me for it. read more

So I was suppose to get a rental car and ended up them having one more so I had to leave the place to go get my dad because I'm not 21 , you have to be 21 to put a deposit down but you can rent a car at age 18???? We got a rental vehicle provided to me from my insurance company and picked up my rental on June 10th at the Folsom location...he offered us the Camaro convertible which had just gotten returned and we were told that it wasn't washed yet and if we didn't mind, since I was in rush I just told him it's fine he didn't walk me out to the car or do a walk around or anything just gave me the keys and said bye, so I got into the car and right away noticed how dirty it was and that it had a stench which was pretty permanent through the entire rental period but since I kept the convertible top down 99% of the time I barely noticed so I decided to leave since I had other obligation and I wasn't expecting to keep the car for long since my vehicle was crashed and was just waiting on repairs. And upon returning the car to the Elk Grove location on July 13th a few days later I noticed a pending charge on my credit card for a 272 dollar charge which didn't make no sense since my insurance company was covering the rental so after talking to my insurance and the hertz location they said they wouldn't charge me until they figured it out with my insurance company which was also noted on both sides. And my insurance company contacted the hertz location in Elk Grove and told them they will be covering the charges. So on the 20th of July I see charge on my credit card statement for 572 dollars which I didn't understand and when calling the hertz location they said they charged the card because they didn't know anything or check the notes and then said that there was a additional 300 dollar smoking fee ( I don't smoke! ) and immediately contacted my insurance company and they said they will take of the charge but said they can't take care of the (smoking charge) and for us to contact hertz corporate and let them know about the matter. So when I called hertz corporate and explained what's going she said that it said that the charge was for (exterior wash) which is not what we or the insurance company was told, and the elk grove hertz location is offering zero help and pretty rude about the matter. I have a lot of evidence and this is some of it, I literally found 3 different peoples rental agreements and numerous other items when I cleaned out the car which tells me that the car hasn't been cleaned for the past multiple rentals and when I clean it out they charge me 300$ I'm not sure if it's because they are going bankrupt and under that they feel like they need to steal money from customers but I suggest you do not rent from this location or any hertz location. This location sucks! I feel like customer service is at a low these days and going to this Hertz location just added more to my stance. First of all the navigation told us to turn into the Chevron gas station, but my lyft kept going because why would Hertz be in a gas station? We call the location for a marker since we circled too many times and was told it's near Crunch gym. Ah no! It's at the opposite end of the buss. park from the gym! Walk in and it looks like a pop up store! Limted seats, a table with a folding chair and one staff person, Jordan who is a pompous jerk!- I rented an intermediate car which was supposed to be a Chevrolet Cruze. I thought it was the one sitting out front but I was told it was unrentable. Instead he put me in a Nissan Aveo and tried to convince me it was the same classification of car. In what universe? The Chevy Cruze was supposed to fit five people and 2 medium suitcases. The Aveo couldn't fit four adults and any suitecases even if the back passengers sat on them! He assured me he woud call me on Monday to switch it out, but of course that never happened. I actually called around to locations open on Saturday hoping to switch the car. Instead ended up having to go out to the airport to exchange. When I returned the car he tried to act befuddled when I told him every other location confirmed the Aveo was an economy car, and he had no memory of claiming to call me to switch out the car. Ugghh! I was surprised to find a charge on my credit card. I called Hertz in Elk Grove CA - Stockton Rd. A gentleman explained me that it was a charge for fuel because I returned the car a little below the Full Line on the fuel gauge on the dashboard. Told him that I returned it with the same amount of gas when they gave it to me, it was below the full line. He said for me to call billing department of Hertz. I called his location because they were the one who rented the car to me, not the billing department. He was the one who processed my transaction when I returned the car to the repair shop, they picked it up from the repair shop where my car was serviced. So think it 2x or 3x before you rent a car from Hertz next time either through your car insurance or other reasons. CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT for the charge. Next time check your fuel before you leave the car lot or take a picture of the fuel gauge reading and notify Hertz representative if the fuel is not at the maximum full line. read more
