The pickup was horrendous the lines were long and they didn't have enough representatives. When I finally got to the counter, the computers kept freezing. The agent had to redo my reservation twice at one computer, and then switch to another computer and redo it again twice that is extremely too long to pick up a car after getting off at 11 PM flight. Customer service were extremely helpful and actually quite pleasant The drop off was ridiculous but I was expecting it, so I arrived early. You can see in the pictures. They 100% committed fraud at this location. Picked up my rental early morning on 8/19. Declined all additional coverages - as I always do. Returned car on 8/24. Got no receipt or follow-up e-mail from Budget but then noticed two charges on my credit that totaled more than 2x the original rental. Downloaded the receipt and they had charged me $470 in additional coverages - including one charge for something called ESP (Emergency Sickness Plan). When I looked up ESP online - it says it is only available to non-US Residents!!! Budget customer service was awful as you would expect - said all the coverages had been agreed to and applied correctly expect for the ESP which for some reason had been applied in error. If I could give budget a negative rating I would. Where do I start? First we arrived to the budget rental area and the line was out the door. Come to find out, they were out of cars. 1.5 hrs after standing in line and it's finally my turn, I make my way to the counter just to be told they're out of 7 passenger vehicles which is what we reserved MONTHS and MONTHS ago. The clerk was not 100% transparent about this but I knew better after word made it through the line. I called them out on this and asked how this happens when people make reservations and he didn't know. I never received an apology or anything but was offered an upgrade with a charge. Are you kidding me? That was a slap in the face. They finally said they had 7 passenger vehicles but they needed to be cleaned so we wait some more. We are finally given out vehicle only to get in it and it's dirty. Hadn't been vacuumed, looked like a toddler messed all on the windows and windshield inside. Then we leave the airport and as I'm merging on the highway I look down and see the vehicle is only at 3/4 tank full. With gas being $4.50 a gallon and the expectation of budget to return the vehicle full otherwise we are charged insane amounts, this was yet another slap in the face. The vehicle also drove like crap. You can bet from frequent trackers we will NEVER do business with budget again and we will be sure to leave reviews and tell everyone we know how crappy they treat their customers. ZERO stars!!! I had a horrible experience with Budget in July 2025. I rented a Mazda from the RDU Budget office. As I was getting in the car, a nearby Budget employee pointed out some damage on the right rear. He said that he would note the damage in his records. The first problem was the windshield wipers did not work. I exchanged the Mazda at the Norfolk airport for a car that worked. 6 weeks after this experience, I got a threatening letter from Budget demanding over $1,600 to repair the damage -- which was present before I picked up the car! Nearly 2 months and many emails and phone calls later, I am STILL dealing with Budget's blunder. I urge drivers to avoid Budget at all costs. Awful experience at RDU. Had reservation and waited more than 30 minutes for a shuttle pick up. There were about 10 others waiting. In that 30 minutes, two Budget/Avis shuttles arrived: first time, one passenger got on and 15 minutes later, three more customers got on the second shuttle. Meanwhile FOUR empty Hertz shuttles and THREE empty Enterprise shuttles came by. Pathetic customer service. No phone support. Don't use Budget at RDU - they clearly don't have the staff to support the business they are willing to contract for. The only employees I encountered (shuttle drivers) did not give a sh*t. Just received a notice from Budget after having rented a car from them for cleaning the vehicle. I thought it was common practice to wash and vacuum the cars upon return. Evidently not. The price being charged for the cleaning is excessive for grass clipppings/leaves on the floor mats. This place is horrible. Be prepared to wait hours for a car after a lengthy flight. Once you receive your car no one helps inspect or write down what is wrong with it. They will give you a damaged car then charge you for it. Be sure to buy the "insurance coverage" Once you drop off your car good luck anyone inspecting or speaking with you. Place could use better management and hire friendlier staff. Service - From checking in, car delivery, and inspection everyone was so whatevers and just felt they wanted out of the way. Car - I ended up getting a Nissan Altima, car was dirty, tire pressure was off, dents on the hood, and not that clean with receipts left behind. Also service light came on 100 miles into driving the car. Pick up and drop off - It actually was quick to get in and out. From the VERY beginning, this rental was bad. The Website was difficult to navigate (I am a software developer) with little explanation to complete. Used my bank card (Visa) to reserve the vehicle. It took us 30 minutes just to get in the lot and another 30 minutes to get to the counter - no one was in line. It took them 10 minutes to finally find my reservation even though I gave them the numbers from my printed copy. Upon finding it, the clerk wanted another card for the hold. I have a card used especially for this that has a $350 cap and warns me every time it is tapped. Vehicle was not what we requested, but that actually worked out better. We enjoyed the vehicle so much that we wanted to extend the rental by a week. They had charged the money for the original contract. Went to do so online, with it saying I needed to call into Budget - called the number they gave. They told me that I had to call the original rental location to resolve the issue. Called for 30 minutes straight - just ringing and the hung up every 3 to 4 minutes. Never got through to them. Called Corporate back four times - the challenge is that they "Could not" change my card number back to the one used originally. Over and over I asked them why don't you want my money? Shortly after the car left the lot I noticed a low tire pressure message on the dash. In the morning the tire was almost completely flat. Filled up the tire with air and continued, only to have a low engine oil message pop up. I had to stop at Jiffy Lube where the attendant told me the oil was extremely low. Worst rental car experience of my life. This Budget in particular lets broken cars off the lot without regard to safety or convenience. I made it 7.6 miles before stopping for food post-flight, only for the car to have no battery charge. Made it 14 minutes into the drive, yet it took them 6 HOURS to get roadside assistance, for which they tried to charge $218. It would have been a hellish drive with how loud the car was, which we realized during said 6 hour wait was due to the plastic window siding falling off the car. The second car we received came with all tires at 39 psi except for the front right, which was at 24 psi and I had to pay myself to fill. I was hopeful this would resolve the wheel alignment issue which had the car driving straight while the wheel was tilted at an angle greater than 10 degrees. This was the most absurd rental car experience i've ever had. The place is filthy and the lot is a mess and convoluted. No signage anywhere. From the shuttle pick up at the airport where the driver lied and said there was a shuttle right behind to grab the rest of waiting ....it turned out to be him, no other bus on the loop. To the rude staff at the entrance and exit only to be topped by the completely unsafe/undriveable vehicle they gave us. The suspension was completely messed up, the lane keeping sensors also insanely damages so that the car violently and unexpectedly changed lanes every few minutes, also the steering wheel was turned to the left to keep the car going straight. Upon returning to get a new car there were many other customers complaining of undriveable/unsafe vehicles. Insanity. We were able to get a new car to get us to where we were going (complete with change oil warning light on) but it was a terrible experience. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE. read more

I picked up a rental car from Budget today from the Raleigh airport in NC, and I drove 90 miles to my hotel. Upon arrival, I parked the car for 10 minutes before heading out to a client meeting. Upon reentering the vehicle, it would not start, the battery appeared to be dead. When I looked at the key fob, I noticed there was a sticker on it that said, "Dead Battery." Budget put me in a vehicle with a known problem. When I called their roadside assistance, their solution was to wait for roadside assistance to jump the battery and take the car to the nearest airport and exchange the vehicle. What Budget failed to understand is that they are a company that I cannot trust, putting me in a vehicle with a known problem it the quickest way to diminish trust for the brand. I took an Uber to my client, and upon arrival back at my hotel I called their roadside assistance again to request a tow truck take the car to Budget because I no longer trust Budget, knowingly renting me a car they knew has a bad battery. I am currently waiting for a tow truck to take the vehicle back to Budget, with an estimated wait time of 90 minutes. read more

Reserved a vehicle from Raleigh Durham Airport on our return from San Diego. Received vehicle at 0114 on 10/6/23 and proceeded home. At approximately three miles into our trip the car began to sputter and the engine temp gauge lit up. At the same time, low tire pressure lights illuminated. Car was limped to a fuel station and we called the service counter which did not answer. Roadside service was then contacted in which I was told to drive it back to the service counter. The cars engine bay was smoking from the oil fill cap. I was told that it would be towed back and I would receive an Uber home. My wife and I have been sitting with this rental for the last three hours and the tow service isn't expected until 0530 at the earliest. I am requesting every penny paid to Budget during this rental period immediately. Budget Rental desk refuses to answer the phone although the office opened nearly 45 min ago. Absolutely horrible experience and I will never do business with, or recommend, your services. read more

Ask about all fees ahead of time as I got charged an additional $155.89 added to my quoted price (fees for the following: concession recovery, facility charge, vehicle license recoup, energy recovery fee plus a 17% tax fee). Then I brought my car back 36 minutes later than the predicted time and got charged $38.13 for an hourly fee plus an additional day fee of $37.50 (an additional $75.63). I rented a car from the Orlando airport last week. When I reserved the rental online I declined the additional insurance and unlimited tolls. Additional insurance and unlimited tolls were added to my rental at the time of pick up. I didn't notice this at the time. Yes, i signed the documents without looking very close. This is my fault. I contacted Budget after I saw my charge total and they refused to reduce my charges. I'm okay with that but want to warn other people. The agents ask questions in a way that you don't realize your answers are raising your fees. They don't stop to explain what it means if you say yes or no. I booked on Hopper and the app failed to inform me that I would have to pass a credit check to pay for my rental with a debit card. When I couldn't pass the credit check, they basically told me I was out of luck. I was planning to use the car to drive to my dad's place in Jacksonville, FL and, without it, I didn't know how I was going to get down there. Three days before Christmas as I'm trying to get down to see family while I had the necessary money for the deposit and simply couldn't pass the credit check, they refused to work with me to find a solution to get me to my family for the holidays. Lady that checked us in lied to us about gas. She sold us the prepay fill up so we didn't have to fill when we return vehicle. She said gas was around 3.50 a gallon, and she'd sell is a full tank @ 3.03 so of course we did it. She lied and gad was in the 2.90 range. Horrible! We are express members. The car that was in our designated spot was not what was listed on the paperwork. Went to desk for assistance, a woman( who clearly was not happy and rude) sent us to a space that did not exist. Waited in line again (so much for express membership) and Kevin assisted us. (I asked the name of his co-worker and he said "that is a good question"). He knew I was upset, it was late and I was tired! Kevin offered us an upgrade, which was enjoyed and appreciated.
