Get a car anywhere else, I'm begging you. The first car I rented needed an oil change and was low on other fluids, so I had to return it (delaying my trip by a day). The second car I rented had a non-functional instrument panel. Third car actually worked, wow! Why don't they maintain their fleet? This whole process was extremely frustrating and took up a lot of time. Staff was largely incompetent, they didn't have a grasp on which cars were actually available. The bill was $275, I asked for a day to be refunded since my trip was delayed, they said no problem. Just got my credit card statement and I was charged $400, with no explanation. Came in with a rental that we wanted to switch out because of a broken rear windshield due to freezing temperatures. Guy explained this is a licensed location, and that he can't help with switching out the car. Fine. Understood. Asked the guy if he could lend me some tape so I could tape up the back with some trash bags that we have. This is why this location gets a one star review. He told me no. Literally, you work in an office. What are the chances you don't have tape. So much for "wish there was something I could do to help you" nonsense. We have rented here many times. When we arrived this time, the car we reserved was not available. The gentleman had only 1-2 cars available. We went with a truck. We asked the agent at this location how much the rental would be if we returned it Friday vs. Monday. He said it will be near 450 (or near there) Friday and near 750 (near there) if you return it Monday. We were debating which day to return the car and needed to know pricing to decide. We decided to return it Monday. When we returned it the same person was working. He said "this car is not unlimited mileage" after my husband drove to 2 cities and back for work. We have never had a car rented that was "per mile" in the past at this location, or ever that we could recall, and the gentleman didn't mention this when we asked about the cost. The bill when we returned the car on Monday was $1800.00. It was more than double what he told us it would cost. He also told my husband "it is not my responsibility" to tell you about the mileage cost. Uhhhhh.... we specifically asked the price and that should have been included as it did affect the price quit a bit! We called higher up corporate office hoping for some help. I am not sure what the higher up office will do yet. We will use another rental location from here on out. read more

I created an account just to relate my poor experience with this location. I rent regularly from Budget a few times a year and have never been treated with such snooty indifference. I paid for my rental in full when I reserved a car for a 9:00am pickup. I arrived at 8:50 and there were two customers in the office that were already irritated and scrambling to make other arrangements. Fearing the worst, I approached the counter and stated my purpose. I was told that they had no cars available and that they weren't expecting any returns until later that afternoon. Then I was told I needed to provide proof of residency with two current utility, bank or pay stubs and that my insurance company had to fax over proof of full coverage before I could have the car I already paid for. This information was delivered in between the two agents at the counter discussing an envelope of coffee additive which was far more important than customer service. I've never had to jump through hoops to rent a vehicle before nor treated so piss-poorly. They couldn't even cancel my reservation but told me there could be a $50 fee for cancelling. Maybe don't allow cars to be reserved and paid for without being able to deliver said car? Maybe prepare your customers that your location requirements are far more imposing than other locations so it's not sprung on them at the time of pickup? Maybe, just maybe, have some agents that don't give a crap if you get a car or not. Oh wait. They've got that one covered. read more

I called in and made a reservation. I needed a 16 foot and they didn't have one. They said that they had a 26 foot and I decided to do that because I needed one. I didn't even need the 26 foot it was going to be way to big but I got it because I was in need. I go in an hour earlier and they told me they had given it away. The lady was really rude to me. We returned a truck from Vegas here & the lady said it wasn't "full" when clearly it was because the pump shut off at the gas station before returning it. She said if we didn't "full it up" she would charge us $30. We had to back all the way out onto the main road while people were trying to pull in & one old man told us to "stick it up our ass" because he had to back out when he was pulling in due to the parking lot not being big enough for this big trucks to begin with. I reserved an SUV at this location three weeks before Thanksgiving and upon arrival they did not have a vehicle for me. They tried to give me a small pick up truck and when I told them that doesn't work for me they said well that's what you're getting. The customer service is lousy and it's basically first come first serve even if you make reservations ahead of time. I would not recommend using budget for your car rental needs. Booked an SUV weeks ago and when we went to pick it up today, they wouldn't rent to us because our credit card wasn't showing the cardholder's name on the computer screen (although the card clearly has our name printed and they could have scanned the card to save on file or something), and the employee claimed to not have a way to enter the card info manually. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! We rented a car to drive from St. George to CO. We wanted peace of mind with a newer car, especially traveling with two small children. Upon picking up the car, I mentioned two things to the mechanic: Low tire pressure and the change oil light was on. He checked and filled up the tire and said he had just changed the oil. Later, we found out there was a nail in the tire (that he supposedly checked) and the oil was a quart low and BLACK! There is no way he could have "just changed" it. I called customer service and was told that I would receive reimbursement for a tire patch and oil change, if I did so. We were short on time so we opted not to do either, just filled up the oil. I was also told I would be compensated for the trouble. I brought back the car after the trip and told them what happened. They said they couldn't compensate me and to call customer service. After calling them for THREE DAYS and leaving voicemails about the two problems (the calls were never returned), I finally got through to someone. I did as I was told, emailed them my receipt. I get an email back saying that I never mentioned any problem with the oil. So now I'm being called a liar. I would give this 0 stars if possible. I wish no stars were an option. The truck we rented was unsafe, had a filthy cab, and a grease stained floor in the box (with holes in it we could see daylight through). It was so horribly rough riding that it beat us up and bruised us physically. Worse, the truck made u turns by itself without any help, and was incapable of staying in its lane without using superhuman strength. It was a miserable experience. We used to drive truck in Alaska, this rental truck was exponentially rougher than anything we have ever experienced in 20 years of ice and gravel roads in dozens of assorted heavy haul and delivery vehicles. Unacceptable. When we contact the store in St. George, the (unexpectedly rude) Blonde lady behind the counter could care less. She even refused to pull the truck from in front of the store to the side lot to see what we meant when we said the truck was unsafe. She said, "it's in your possession still (paid for with the keys turned in the counter in front of her) so YOU move it." We did. Yes, U-haul costs more, but safety and more pleasant customer service reps are priceless. Avoid this place! Update: we were given a small discount for our unhappy experience by a very friendly company rep. The facts remain unchanged. I would prefer to never use Budget again, but appreciate the gesture. Wish I could give negative stars! We arrived a day early to double check our reservation because our whole trip depended on this rental. We were met by Brighton. He basically told me that the odds were that there would not be a van for us in the morning when we arrived. We were then given a generic customer service number and after a long hold time we were given more rude customer service with the man telling me " maam! You have a confirmation you WILL have a van in the morning!" Went back in the morning to be met with the most disgruntled employee ever Kim... we said we were there for our van and she said "well I don't have one." Not I am sorry... I am working on it... let me see what I can do... nothing. She said Oh I was going to call you but your reservation didn't have a phone number. ummmm Yes it did. AND we had left our number when we had been there the night before. Mind you our bags are packed and ready to go for our first family vacation in YEARS. I ask if there is a number I can complain to a manager. She then makes a phone call and says "Is there a number I can give a lady to call you to complain?" I ask her if I can just speak to her now. I am handed the phone with a barely disguised eye roll. I ask the manager if she has any options for me. She says there is a van at the other location but it is reserved for the day. I ask why they would honor THAT reservation but not mine that was reserving it for a week? She had no answer. She put me on hold... during that time the stars alligned and a 10 passenger van showed up at the other location. She told me she would hold it for me. (we needed a 12 passenger or 15 but figured beggers could not be choosers). We then go to pick it up and the Kim at the airport counter was great with customer service but the fax machine was down so the process took over an hour and the price ended up being much more than my original quote but again our vacation was dependent on this rental so we accepted it. The employees at the downtown location had the worst customer service I have ever encountered and I honestly feel it is due to the fact that this situation happens to them often enough that they just do not care. AT ALL. I would beg the management to STOP taking reservations for cars that do not exist. People rent cars because of a NEED. I wish I had the right words to explain just how horrific the service and situation truly was. Go to enterprise! Never again will I rent from Budget. read more

I reserved a compact car a week ago and when I arrived just now (2/12/16) they didn't have it. They tried to give me a 15 passenger van and I was going to California from Utah for the weekend! I have to admit, when I have made reservations through Budget.com to be picked up in St. George, 3 times....no vehicle was there when I went to pick it up. I wasn't the only one left stranded, there were 3 other people in the same situation. After talking to my son, who rents through them regularly, he said I have to make the reservations through budgetutah.com. Wow, what a difference. Not only did they have a vehicle for me, it was a brand new mini van. We made a trip to California and back, putting on 2100+ miles. The price was perfect and the service was great. I rented from them through my insurance and was told by my insurance that I wouldn't have to pay underage fee, and the lady argued with me and told me that if I wasn't here on military orders I would have to pay it. I didn't even come close to the car I had rented and I know I get something similar but a 2 door mustang with a baby is shit to deal with. Not to mention the car ran out of oil while in my possession. When I returned the car, I pointed out that on their website it says drivers 21-24 are exempt from paying fee. She told me they're not part of the big corporation and they don't do that. I kept pushing and actually showed her that and she finally charged me what I was estimated to pay. I rented a van to take my kids and fiancé down to Las Vegas for my wedding. 1 the original person I booked with was kind and gracious said it would be all ready to go. 2 upon arrival day of we get rude and bitterness from a different rep. "We have to have the card in person" fine I just thought I'd be able to read the numbers over the phone. So I get out another card. 3 card declines so I say "I'll be right back, gonna transfer money from savings to checking" - have had a few thousand being used via wedding expenses.. Normal for wedding week.. 4 A half and hour later I come back in and she says "You can't use that card again".. Really you let me leave knowing I was going to swap money over for you. If I could have been able to pay the whole thing in cash or go to another place of business we would have. One hour wasted from the rudest customer service counter person I've ever dealt with in this type of industry & I've traveled and used budget multiple times, am party of the rapid Rez program. I have tried to rent from budget St George (off airport) 3 times without success. I was looking to rent a SUV/minivan for medical travel. It is basically impossible to get a phone number to this location. My husband had visited the airport location and they have VERY odd hours and they recommended us rent at this off airport location. I booked the first time via Costco travel. I have used Costco travel before with great results. My husband went down the day before to the location and asked the staff what type of SUV's were in the category we reserved. They should him the 2 models, I believe an explorer and santa fe? We came back the next day and they had nothing ready. We waited as long as we could (5 hours) before we had to leave for the medical appointments in SLC and nothing came in? They blamed Costco and while I have always had great success with Costco, I didn't know who was to blame. Our next medical trip I booked with budget online. It was 25% higher then Costco but they assured me that I would have a SUV/Minivan waiting. Guess what nothing this time. They blamed that I did not prepay just reserved . So yes I booked again with budget and prepay and again nothing. You might wonder why I tried three times. Budget had $35-60 rates for SUV's and minivans and they other places in our city either had none(or because of the airport hours 1 day turns into 2-3 days) or charged over $125 a day. We were just looking for a bigger vehicle to travel with for medical care (due to the lack of doctors in southern Utah driving 600-700 miles in 1 day for a doctors visit gets tiring and in a small sedan is not fun). Our car is fine just not as comfortable so we were not in dire straights for an SUV/van. After asking around it seems like this is a common issue with trying to rent a car or SUV here and not having one ready. I have yet to hear one person who has been able to book any rental car company in St George via Costco. Budget is just another company that makes living in Southern Utah not great. Also after doing a lot of research and visiting on and off airport to all 4 companies do NOT pay for luxury ,premium or the high end categories in this city because they are the same as the lower priced ones. The Ford Tarus is the car they use in 4 categories that are as low as $30 and over $100 for the same car! read more

Unfortunately I have never had such bad service or such a bad attitude from any rental car place and I have rented hundreds of cars. I travel frequently and I was renting a car to save on gas milage. I reserved it a week in advance and picked the car. When I got there they had no cars. They only had 1 vehicle in the lot and it was far from appropriate for a road trip to save gas mileage. I told them I had a reservation for a car and they said they were aware of that and I should feel lucky they even have anything for me. I canceled my reservation and walked out. Dear Budget rental. HAVE YOU READ YOUR REVIEWS on YELP and GOOGLE?!? They are horrible!!! I thought I was alone in my "worst case rental AND customer service experience ever" but aparebtly I'm not after reading your reviews. Renting from you was Absolutely the worst car rental experience I've ever had!! Don't rent a car from either of Budget's St George locations! I tried to call them for 4 days before my scheduled pickup. I needed to ask about payment with my debit card, the kind of car I needed, etc. I couldn't get them to answer and ended up leaving left several messages which were never returned. When I went to pick up the car I was told the only car they had was a manual. Having never driven a manual I told them it wouldn't be possible and I'd need another option. They told me it was all they had and I was out of luck. they said I could try their other location off the blvd so I went there. The manager Shelly looked at me and shrugged and said sorry there's nothing we can do. This is woman is the manager?? Really?? I DROVE 1,400 miles in a car I was stalling and peeling out in. It was a disaster. When I got back to drop off my car the bill was considerably more than what I'd been quoted at $168 plus taxes and fees which was quoted at $230. Instead I was charged over $300. I was so frustrated that I just left. I waited a couple days to cool down and go back to ask about my bill. There was a woman there who tried to be helpful and apologized but couldn't do much so I waited for the infamous Shelly to return. Again when I voiced my concerns she just looked blankly at me. She tried to give excuses for their poor performance. Shelly never offered an apology or a solution she just stood there. After reading all of the reviews for the St G Budget I am starting to think Shelly is deliberately trying to get fired so she can collect unemployment. Why else would a manager of a huge company treat people so poorly and damage the reputation of a business. DONT RENT FROM BUDGET RENTAL IN ST GEORGE UTAH. Use another company, Borrow a car, steal a car (ok don't), have your 95 year old blind grandma drive you, ride your bike in 111 degree weather, walk, piggyback, but DONT GO TO BUDGET RENTAL CAR!!
