Many things went wrong but mostly billing. I was incorrectly charged ($133.92) for several things. I've been told I would receive a full refund but only received partial refund. I was told I would receive an email confirmation about the refunds but that was never received. Also told many different things by different reps. No one takes responsibility. Car reeked of smoke masked by poor cleaning job. Maintenance warning with instructions to take car to dealer stayed on the entire time...coolant light came on and stayed on while driving. 30k+ miles, scratches galore and when brought to management attention a pitiful Im sorry was as good as I would receive , versus Ill take this car out of inventory and either fix the issues or retire this sucker before another renter has the same experience. Understaffed. No help whatsoever in the parking lot where cars are dropped off and picked up. Office is inside the train station maybe half a mile away. After waiting in line almost an hour to drop off my car keys, I was told I had to return to the parking lot and TAKE A PICTURE of the odometer to verify the mileage. Whenever I call that location no one answers the phone, when I called to return the car, no one is there to assist and of course, this is how they make their money. Don't recommend this place. We rented a car for 3 days and decided to extend it for 1 more day. I called to the office to extend it over the phone, woman on the phone said it will cost me 50$. However, when we returned the car, they over charged me. I paid 30$ more. So one more day cost me 80$ instead of 50$. read more

Vehicle was issued to me despite knowing there was a severe odor issue 2 days prior to my pick up date. I wasn't notified until day of rental and of course they had no other cars that would fit family. We had to clean, lysol and spray until we cleaned ourselves and discovered food in cracks and crevices. Car obviously not cleaned and had to deal with odor for most of week. read more

PLEASE BEWARE!!! I rented a vehicle for 24 hrs. so that I had enough seats for a field trip for my preschool. I picked the vehicle up at 5:55 pm Thursday and returned at 5:45 pm Friday, the earliest I could get there. The doors were open and the lady at the counter took the keys and said she would email a receipt because she had to check the car before giving a receipt. I called a week later to be sure the deposit was credited to my credit card. The lady that took the keys was actually the manager and she evidently didn't want to do her job so and just marked my rental contract as I dropped the keys in overnight drop box after they were closed. I was charged for 3 days rental and it took hours on the phone before I reached a representative (in Mexico) that cared enough to refund the overcharge. Very disappointed in Budget Rental Car located in Wilmington DE at the train station. I have used there service for over five years and have had little to no problems. Very minimal and not worth complaining or raving about. Always average service. I look for affordability and convenience so this worked well for me in the past. To my surprise today I went in prepared to pick up my rental that was reserved well in advance and I was told I did not meet the credit criteria to be able to rent from them. I understand company policy but what I do not understand is how you do this on the day of my pre planned trip. Fortunately, I live local and had the resources to quickly make other arrangements. Just a few solutions to the problem I encountered today which would help your business relationships. 1. Do the credit checking up front and get required information so that customers (especially those from out of town) are not left in an awkward situation. 2. Disclose what the credit criteria is checking for. The last time I checked the definition of a soft credit check; A soft inquiry is an inquiry that occurs when a person or company checks your credit report as a background check, like when you check your credit score or a mortgage lender preapproves you for a loan. Not to make a decision to NOT do business with the customer (especially after the reservation was made well in advance/have a customer service rep call and confirm these particulars 24-48 hours in advance of pick up). 3. Get a shuttle to take people over to where the cars are parked. That is a little less than classy to have someone walking across a very busy traveled area to get there car. Also, walk them over; I have not been asked on several occasions if I wanted the rep to walk me over. Not to mention, it looks very unprofessional in the bay and sends a message that may not be appealing to those traveling into our great state of Delaware! Whoever takes my payment and checks me in should do my vehicle inspection because conversations get lost between the bay and the train station (keys too). Shame on you Budget. I have been an advocate and cheerleader for you over the years! You lost a great customer. Enterprise was more than willing to do business with me and I use them as well (always for car repairs). They are just a little further out than you and today they truly turned my day around from gloom to glad. It's not always what you do its how you do it. Close to the Amtrak station in Wilmington. Unfortunately, not open when the Silver Star passes through after 5 pm. Had to come back the next day and get a car. Still, its return (about 2 small blocks away) was convenient and the Budget counter resides in the Train Station. Would I use it again. Sure. The car was there that we reserved. The cars seemed to be well taken care of. Some city (non airport) budget centers are primarily truck rentals facilities and cars second. They seemed to be the reverse. read more

We needed to rent a moving truck at the last minute and we found a great deal on the Budget website. When we showed up that morning everything was ready for us. They clearly explained all the costs and what was expected of us. The truck had some dings and scratches and they marked all of that on our paperwork. We did not have to pay anything beyond the fee, mileage and gas. Overall a great experience. read more
