I show up the next morning and am told they do not have an SUVs, and my only options are a large pickup truck (not great for driving and parking in the area of the city I am going to, or a minivan (both are free "upgrades"), or I can take a matchbox-sized car, which was my only other option, which I had to take to make my meetings. The Branch Manager kept saying "I am saying" in a monotone I don't care voice while not even looking me in the eye or acknowledging he messed up or trying to actually make it right. As I am checking out, a SUV comes out of their car wash, and I ask about that, but he states that it's for someone else (mind you, I am the only customer there, so he means for someone later who is a friend). As I am leaving, 2 warning lights are coming on in the car as it rattles the entire day, but going back to try and get the other matchbox car would have made me late for my meeting, so I have to deal with it. Avoid this branch unless you are DESPERATE.

I arrived half an hour later, and the Volvo employees in the same office didn't know where she was. I left to pick up my car and had the dealer drive the rental back to Hertz. The experience was simply appalling. The branch manager was nowhere to be found from 1pm to 2:30pm, leaving three customers waiting and one turned away (who returned to the office to change his rental car, unsuccessfully). She showed up at 2:30pm only after one of us was able to get hold of her through a National customer service representative (as funny as it sounds) around 1:45pm and told her on the phone there are three customers waiting in the office with reservations. When I asked why there was nobody working on a Thursday afternoon, the branch manager (Tremaine) started telling us about policy activities earlier during the day that caused the station to temporarily close -- But it was all cleared up around 1pm as we customers were able to enter the station (and all other rental companies were operating normally). Then she said she had to go to another location to contact customers by phone -- But none of us got any phone calls and I had to show her my call log to prove it. Then she started telling me my profile in the system must have the wrong phone number -- Honestly? In the end, she started making her own rules about who could get cars or not and claiming there is no car available for me, despite having an active reservation. She was unprofessional and rude, and showed no care for customers during the entire process. Eventually I had to book another reservation with Avis next door and continued my travel through Wilmington. I will continue to use Enterprise. But at this location, stay away!

One of them looked at my tiny dent, went away for 10 minutes, and returned with a laughably long list of needed services, with a price of more than $900. I poked around through the Yellow Pages (yep, I'm old-school) and stumbled on Brandywine Auto Body. I was surprised to discover an auto body shop in what seemed like a residential neighborhood, near the post office on Concord Pike. (In fact, I almost left without finding it; they need more signage.) Once I had found the shop, the proprietor looked at the damage and quickly whipped up a bill for about $500. The Yellow Pages ad said the shop had been around since 1975; clearly, this wasn't the original owner, but he sounded experienced and knowledgeable. After taking the estimate sheet home, I called in and said yes. He said it would take 3 or 4 days for the car to be ready (partly for the new paint to dry overnight). I dropped it off on a Monday ... and he called on Wednesday afternoon, saying it was done. I got there Thursday morning and found the damaged panel looking like new. Within a few minutes, I'd settled the bill and was on my way. In short: this was a better experience than I thought I might get from an auto body shop. With reasonable prices, good service, and (for me) a convenient location, they've earned my business if I ever again mar my beautiful vehicle.
