Budget Right is run by incredibly honest people. I had a situation with Budget Right that could have been really bad, but instead had a wonderful outcome. I had Budget Right do work on my deck last year, replacing a few boards and doing a clean and stain. They did a good job so I had them out to do it again this year, but there was an issue with the pressure washer using too much pressure and it shredded the deck. It was bad, but Sam and the Budget Right team were committed to providing quality work. It ended up taking a few weeks, mostly due to rain, but they fixed everything that had gone awry and then some. The deck looks great and I am pumped to get back outside to enjoy the summer on it! And you better believe I'll be having Budget Right back out for anything else I need in the future! read more

We called Budget Right Handyman to have a serviceman come out and pull out the old light fixture from our entryway and install the new one we had purchased. Compared to other handyman services, BudgetRight had reasonable prices and the dispatcher, Tim, responded to my message right away. On the day of the appointment, Aaron V. showed up early, was an absolute professional, showed great attention to detail when he pointed out a few issues (that I hadn't noticed) with the new fixture which he promptly fixed, and got the job done quickly. Since we had already purchased the two-hour coupon, he stayed and did some finishing work on our fireplace mantel, and even did a consultation on our media set up in our basement, where we've been having issues with some shoddy outlets. I hired another electrician and he diagnosed 3 mistakes that were done. It has nothing to do with the electric panel. The man who came to my apartment insisted on Jerry-rigging broken materials rather than installing new ones that my landlord had purchased. I am SO happy I found BRH. We had an unexpected hiccup in a project being done by other parties, and needed some minor wall/framing work done urgently. Not only did their office return my (somewhat frantic) call within minutes, they were able to schedule our project for the next day. Their office team is great. He was so patient and not only helped us figure out what was needed through a game of telephone with our other contractors, but found a simpler way to do the work which saved us all time and a significant amount of money compared to their original estimate. In late April I had Tim Cornell come to perform some handy work in my condo in Wicker Park. I had a list of about 10 items, but really thought there would be enough time to only get through half of my items. As soon as Tim arrived he asked what needed to be done, set the expectations, and performed his work diligently. He asked if each task had been done to my satisfaction. Additionally, he worked extremely hard the entire 4 hours and did not waste one minute of time. I was extremely impressed that we got through my entire list of to-do's and then some. I had 2 really difficult tasks that I was not expecting Tim to perform but he gladly accepted them and completed the really difficult tasks with great ease. Facts: I scheduled my appointment for artwork/picture hanging and mounting of 2 TVs one 50in and one 48in. I bought the mounting system for both TVs with everything included and for up to 55in. My appointment was scheduled a week before for 12pm. The day of the scheduled appointment I got a call in the morning stating that the handyman was sick and had to go for a COVID19 test. But they called back and said that they had another handyman to do the job but he was leaving another job and was gonna be 20-30 minutes late. Which I was fine with. The new handyman called me and asked what all did he have to do because he was 20 miles away and was going to be late. I told him the job and he said that he didn't know that he had to hang artwork/pictures and that he needed to go to Home-depot. I said ok. He arrived at12:25 in the lobby and in my apartment about 12:30. I had to leave at 1:15pm but my partner stayed home. I got a text from my partner saying that the handyman couldn't mount the 2nd TV because it was too big for the equipment (not correct). The biggest problem was that he started charging me for a 11:30am start because he had to go to the store. He charged me for the materials which were screws and a stud finder/leveler. So he came unprepared without basic tools. You still need a leveler to mount a TV. So even though he was late, had inadequate supplies, and did not mount the 2nd TV, he still charged me for 3 hours. Entered the apartment at 12:30pm and left at 2:30pm. Ultimately the company supported his decision making in which they should have picked up the cost due to their lack of effective communication with the handyman. I used their services on 2 other occasions for the same job at my other apartments and it took 1 hour without any trips to the store and both TVs were mounted and artwork was hung. This time it was a complete fail of execution, time management, and ultimately customer service. I will not use this company again. But if you do use them please watch everything. read more

I had them for 2 hours to put a new faucet in my upstairs bathroom sink. I purchased a moen sink. It took the full 2 hours. Twice the man told me it was done, and 2 times I put newspapers under the sink and it showed water was dripping. He continued to try to stop the leak. When he left he told me that it may not work. A few days latter I called. it was leaking, and the owner came out and tried to fix it, he told me to call the next day if I had any problems. Well guess what it was still leaking I called 4 different times, and no return call. They did not stand behind their work. This was not a big job. I had to have someone else fix the problem. I have used their services for the past 4 years and I'm over all happy with the quality of work and appointment experience. They used to have a 2 hour minimum rule before which may have been discontinued. I found their prices to be very competitive. The reason I chose not to give 5/5 is because of an issue 2 years ago - a freshly installed shelf screw block (with drywall/plaster) fell off few minutes after the appointment ended! I had to request my building engineer to come and fix it. That being said, it was the only issue I've had with the quality of their service. I had the team come out and replace a few shower cartridges, replace a dishwasher valve, and install a dishwasher. They did a very nice job! Anytime you pay by the hour, it seems the work takes longer than expected by like 2x. In this case, they were much better than others. Terrible. I ended up getting charged for work I did not request. I paid 400 $ for what typically on average only costs 275$. Management was not responsive. I was supposed to get a call from a manager which never happened. Nick - the coordinator- was very defensive and never considered the possibility that there may have been an error on their side. Just horrible customer service in light of the fact I was overcharged. Thinking back through this entire ordeal, there was a phone communication mishap where the worker misunderstood one of my requests to simply check the pipes under the faucet to ensure they were tight . The worker went ahead and checked all pipes in the house. Thus the additional $114.75 charge. I am never using them again. I am a General Contractor that used Budget Right for small jobs my affiliated company did not have time for. What a shame because I have much work that will now go to someone that I can trust and that listens to their customers. read more

On approximately January 5, 2017, I contacted Budget Right Handyman to obtain a quote and their availability to install a Murphy bed in my home. I specifically requested a worker who had previous experience installing Murphy beds and was reassured by the Budget Right customer service representative that they would indeed send out someone with that specific experience. The appointment was scheduled for January 9, 2017 at 10am. As preparation, I emailed the specific installation instructions to the company on January 5, 2017 at 2:32pm. I followed up with an email on January 6, 2017 to confirm they received the installation instructions and received an email reply that they had received the instructions. On January 9, 2017, two men arrived and neither had a clear understanding of the work that was needed for the appointment. Additionally, neither man had any experience installing Murphy beds. I immediately called the company to ask why someone was sent without Murphy bed experience when I specifically requested and was reassured that someone would be sent with that experience. After receiving no clear explanation other than the assigned men "having lots of experience", as I was in a bind, I allowed the work to start. Early on, I had concerns of the capability of the Budget Right handymen and asked if they had read the instructions properly. I was brushed off and told, they had it under control. After 4 hours, the final product was noticeably installed improperly and I told the men that. I additionally called the company's main office to strenuously state my concerns that it was not installed properly. I was repeatedly told that it was indeed installed correctly. The bed door did not close properly and the wall base was not aligned with the wall. I was concerned, but in the moment did not believe I had any remedy as the company would not fully accept my feedback. Over the next few months, the wall base of the bed began to detach from the wall and I increasingly became concerned for my safety by using the bed. On July 19, 2017, I took pictures of the detaching bed and contacted Budget Right Handymen. I was told they would send out someone, Mario S., to review the bed on July 24, 2017 at 1:30pm. Mario did not arrive until approximately 2:10pm. Within 5 minutes of his arrival and failure to review any instructions or properly assess the installed bed, Mario stood on the bed and unscrewed the 3 nails attaching the bed to the wall. Upon removing the 3rd screw and the fact that his entire body weight was on the bed, the bed collapsed and upon further review was broken. The bed legs were damaged beyond repair and the bed door was chipped in several areas. Mario immediately assessed that the bed was indeed improperly installed during the initial installation on January 9, 2017 and continued to admit it was his fault for further breaking the bed. Mario S. offered to pay for the replacement parts and/or file a claim with his insurance to replace the entire bed. As a result of his poor decision or lack of capacity to properly complete the job, I, the customer, was literally left in a worse position than I was before this July 24th visit. That worse position being having a broken bed connected to my wall which is unusable and literally left me sleeping on the floor.  In two occasions, Budget Right Handyman has failed to provide quality service and has left me either in the unsafe condition of sleeping in a poorly installed Murphy bed that put me at risk of injury or death in the case of a collapse and eventually in the second visit, literally broke the bed that was paid to be installed.  The following morning, July 25, 2017, I contacted the company's office by email and spoke to their representative, John H. The company decided not to rectify the situation in a respectful way, even though their worker acknowledged responsibility and said he would submit the claim to his insurance to replace the entire bed. Although they have caused damages in the thousands and wasted a ton of my time, remember, I still don't have a bed to sleep in, they rudely only offered to compensate to return only half of the $495 I paid to them to install the bed or force me to subject myself and my property to their continued lack of capable hands to "repair" the damages they caused. I share this story to warn any potential customers of the type of business Budget Right Handyman is. They do not care about your safety nor do they care to actually train or hire people who know how to properly complete simple installations, or know how to read or take time to read instructions. I am beyond shocked by their lack of integrity or professionalism. read more

He's done an excellent job each time, oftentimes going above and beyond by sharing his knowledge about various things around the house as an added bonus. He's friendly and professional and was ahead of the Covid precautions even before it started to become a thing with businesses. I can't recommend him more and I'm glad we finally found someone to count on for odd job repairs (he also does larger jobs based on our conversations). Budget Right has got themselves a brand builder as Duane's work certainly reflects well on the company. 1 - called to inform me that someone would not be able to come on the scheduled day due to a back injury. Rescheduled two days later and issued one hour of "good will," for their inability to keep the scheduled appointment. No problem - things happen. 2 - Handyman arrives on time. I informed him I had a motion sensor light switch where the fan was to be installed, if this was going to be a problem let me know and I will walk to the corner hardware store for a different switch. FOUR hours later he is unable to get the fan functioning. He moves on to other items, blaming the problem on the motion switch. 3. I called to complain the fan was not working and the FOUR hours it took to install a non-functioning ceiling fan. I requested an hour credit because of the excessive time involved with the fan that was still not working. I was told NO and they would "good will" two more hours for a different handyman to come out and work on the fan. 4. Spoke to manager - he was not wiling to credit me an hour of service, stating they had already given me an hour for their failure to arrive on the schedule day and time and they were sending someone out "good will" to fix the project they had not completed. WOW - I told the manager I thought we were looking at this from different perspectives, he responded. "THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSPECTIVE AND IT'S BUDGET'S ." OMG - this is not customer service and more importantly blatantly disrespectful. AWFUL Customer service. Finally we did reach an agreement to credit me with one hour of service. 5. Second handyman comes out and fixes the fan in 40 minutes. He leaves and I go downstairs to find the first handyman did not put the bed back into the frame but dropped it onto the bed frame leaving it lay wherever it landed. There were screws and debri in the linens where he had pilled the sheets on the bed. Pillows were thrown on top of the lamp and some of his tools were left behind. I imagine Budget handyman will write some type of retort - but I have pictures of how the room was left. I have hired many people through the years from contractors to handyman - never would I hire this company again. Their service may be adequate but their customer service is horrible and they should take some training in how to interact with people, much less customers. read more
