We had a fabulous breakfast experience at Bud's. Based on other Yelp reviews, our expectations were rather low. We choose Bud's because it opens at 7:00 am, has hot coffee and a diverse breakfast menu and is close to Interlochen State Park, where we are rustic camping. What a delightful surprise! This cafe is beautiful and so comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The photos capture the beauty. From overall decor to the details, it is a very welcoming environment. With seating indoor and outside, there is ample room to spread out and stay a while. These are qualities of a "gathering place" that set it aside from an average restaurant. The staff were friendly albeit laid back. Their speed of work took second place to friendliness. The menu has great looking options for entrees and snacks for all times of day. Prices are fair. We found the portion size of our skillet to be filling but on the small size compared to other places. Our veggie skillet was well cooked, had lots of veggies and was delicious. Coffee was fresh and tasty. We also had a pecan roll. Staff heated it and it was perfect. We plan to make this cafe our morning stop for the week. I don't think you will be disappointed if you also stop by.

We were visiting the area and stopped by for lunch. We had a decent lunch here...ordered sandwiches and salads. Nothing super special, but acceptable. I went back to order a coffee. After ordering one coffee, the screen prompted to leave a tip. Okay, I can do that for good barista service. I gave the tip and swiped my card. Then...I was handed an empty paper cup and told to get my own coffee from a carafe across the room. The carafe was nearly empty and the coffee lukewarm, so I went back to the counter to let them know. He just said "it hasn't been filled for a while". Didn't offer to fill it or get me hot coffee. I wasn't too pleased about that.

    Welcoming entry

A great place for breakfast on a cool morning. I liked their coffee so much, I went back for more and bought some of their beans, too.

Corn beef hash for breakfast was great. Lots of hipsters hanging out watch movies on computers though, so seating may be sketchy.

It wasn't set up as a German pub but still was very nice inside. Furthermore, one of the descriptions we saw for this restaurant was that it was a steakhouse. However, there were only 2 steaks on the menu with various sandwiches and pizzas. There were some uniquely different items though including a burrata appetizer and edamame peas. Both of which we ordered. Additionally, I ordered the salad which included chicken, cashews, dried cherries, and mandarin oranges with a balsamic dressing. The burrata appetizer was incredible and I highly recommend it. The edamame peas were good as well. The salad however was lacking flavor. It was large with lots of chicken and toppings but I just can't recommend it. The chicken wasnt flavored either. Overall though, we enjoyed this restaurant.

The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the whole place had a great vibe. We were really impressed with Oaky's Tavern and would definitely recommend it to anyone in the Interlochen area. While there is charm in old buildings with slightly wavy floors, these needed the update. Very fresh and light now, beautiful place to dine. We went a little early for dinner, so we were seated right away. By the time we left, there was a wait. We started with some bevs, the lavender blackberry lemonade was amazing, which two of us ordered and loved. Our spouses had local beers and were happy too. We also ordered the Oaky Dokie Bites, an app of little round fried bites of cornbread served with hot honey to dip. Fun food, but not sure I'd order them again. Three of us ordered the special, Fried Michigan walleye fish and chips. One subbed onion rings for fries, while I subbed tots, for mine. We were all very happy with our orders. Fish was fresh and sides were yummy. Hubby got a burger and thought it was excellent. The only downside was how long it took to get our dinners. More than half an hour, and we were early for dinner. I don't mind waiting for food when a restaurant is slammed, that is just how it goes. But we waited so long my husband actually went to check on our food, which is really out of character for him. Not sure if our order was misplaced or something else happened, but it did put a damper on the experience, which otherwise, was great. On our way out, we noticed live music going on outside, a plus worth sharing. Service was also great, except for that extra long wait.

The service has never been anything short of excellent on our visits. The staff is welcoming, helpful, patient, and friendly. Service is quick, even when they're slammed. Phenomenal burgers, O-rings, tots, and sweet potato fries. The Northwood's DRAFT (not fountain) root beer is a perfect pairing with their burgers. Slabtown's menu of specialty burgers is enormous and the BYO options include different protein choices and excellent GF buns. I've tried many of their burgers, but have to say that the Slabby Patty on a pretzel bun and the Pungi's Pepper Patty really stood out as a couple of my favorites. For a really sinful (and unhealthy) treat, ask for the gravy tots. Oh brother...insanely good but definitely a guilty pleasure. The lengthy line moved quickly with an efficient process by the staff. An ice cream flight ($10?) was ordered. Five flavors were chosen. Each was about half a scoop I would say. The flavors I tried are below. Most of the ice cream was fulfilling, but not as creamy as I would have thought being homemade. Black Cherry - This was black cherry ice cream with pieces of Michigan cherry pieces. This was plain and did not really taste like anything except for the cherry pieces. Cherries Moobilee - This was black cherry ice cream with chocolate fudge swirl, brownie chunks, and black cherry chunks. Again, the ice cream was plain, but the pieces of everything else helped overcome that a little bit. Cherry Pie a La Mode - This was vanilla ice cream with cherry swirl and pie pieces. This was my favorite. The cherry swirl combined with the small pie pieces made for an appealing treat. Butter Pecan - This again just lacked flavor besides the pecan pieces. Lemon Raspberry - This was lemon ice cream with a raspberry swirl. This was just not good at all. The lemon did not taste like lemon at all, and there was hardly any raspberry. Even with a small portion, I would expect the swirl to be in every bite. Will I go back? Debatable.
