Saw this place while walking through downtown and wanted to try their organic handmade ice creams. There was a small line but it went quickly. The workers were fast and friendly. I ordered the birthday cake ice cream, which surprisingly did not have the typical "birthday cake" look with sprinkles or bright colors. They definitely focus on only using natural ingredients and no artificial flavorings, which I appreciate. I didn't really get the "birthday cake" flavor that much, though. The flavor was almost too natural and tasted like straight heavy cream when I took my first bite lol. Cute ice cream shop off of Front Street in downtown Traverse city, Michigan. Many great vegan lactose free options with plenty of fun mix ins! Indoor seating available but on a sunny day grab your ice cream walk along the shores of Lake Michigan or window shop downtown. Milk & Honey gets four stars from a vegan ice cream standpoint. The texture was the highlight--it was so soft, which I so enjoyed. I went the mix-in route and ordered the Mumbai Curry: Mumbai spice ice cream with peanut butter and maple syrup. This appeared to be the most out-of-the-box flavor in the shop, and while I'm glad I tried it, it was an ice cream + mix-in that had to grow on me...and perhaps it needed some peanuts for texture? If I was to return, I'd try one of the milk-based ice creams. Knowing how wonderful the texture is, Milk & Honey deserves another shot. read more

I believe the ingredients are sourced locally too, which just adds to the quality. I had the sweet cream and birthday cake flavors and they were honestly some of the best ice cream I've ever had. I have to say... M&H has the best ice cream I have had in a looooong time. It's right next to Moomers and if you opt to go there instead, you've made a mistake. Milk and Honey's ice cream blew me away. So much so we bought a cake, then went back the next day and got 4 quarts to take home. The employees were so kind and asked if we wanted to get our to-go ice cream flash frozen in one of their freezers so it could stay colder in our Yeti for the 4 hour drive home. It worked! I am rating this low because of the appalling behavior I heard from the manager to his employees. He was extremely condescending and passive to his employees and I was shocked he felt comfortable enough to speak to them like that in front of me. So what if your employees suggest a cup instead of a cone ? Talk about it at an employee meeting before or after the shift! Having so many fun and tasty vegan choices made this shop stand out and became destination for our evening. The store was clean and despite being in a tourist town, the staff was extremely friendly. I appreciated they were also knowledgeable about the ingredients and the flavors were clearly marked. I tried the vegan Tooty fruity and he had the regular Michigan Mocha, both were great! Portions were good for the price and there was a good variety of flavors for whatever your mood. Note if you go: the waffle bowls and cones are not vegan but the flavors were satisfying enough so I didn't feel like I was missing out. This is like a local and more homemade version of Cold Stone, which is great! This location actually used to be a Cold Stone. This local operation fits in better with the Downtown storefronts promoting small business. The unique flavors like lavender honey and are nice too. Great options and friendly staff! My sister lives here and comes weekly. I got the birthday cake remastered and the homemade fudge and brownie were delish! I also appreciate how they let you sample flavors and there are so many creative concoctions plus vegan options. I ended up getting the lavender ice cream with topped nuts and it was so delicious. It's a pet peeve of mine when the nuts are too cold but it's as if they toaster them somewhere or had them warmed then put them on top!
