Ryan and his crew showed up early and went right to work. They are fast and thorough and got everything done that we asked of them. Ryan deserves 5 stars for being so professional, kind, and not pushy at all. He took his time to give us a quote for pruning and taking out some trees, and while we were still on the fence on a few things, he gladly added estimates so we could think about it further before moving forward. When we finally made a decision, he actually notified us of an opening for the very next day. He greeted us with a smile early in the morning and instructed the trimmers on what needed to be done. During the entire project, everything seemed to be going well. It was when the crew was finished that things weren't so great, particularly with the main trimmer. We had our front tree pruned, and I simply asked the trimmer "is it recommended to keep the limbs hanging over the house?" His response was "I've been doing this for 18 years. I could cut it if you want, but it would be lop-sided. This kind of irked me because I was just asking for his professional opinion. I don't care to know how long someone has been doing something if I'm specifically asking for their advice. I looked around our backyard and noticed a big pile of leaves/sawdust in two corners. I asked if it would they could clean those areas up since they have the leaf blowers. The trimmer remarked that his guys should've done that but they were all just sitting in their trucks waiting to leave. He ended up doing it himself, which I was grateful for, but as he walked over to clean the areas up, he muttered "oh yeah, boss, it's all clean", seemingly mocking his own crew. When he finally finished, I handed over the check and asked if I could get a receipt. He responded with "well, don't you have the quote? There you go." Yes, I did have the signed quote, but that's not documentation of payment. I was so annoyed at this point with him that I just disregarded it and let him go. After the entire crew left, I looked at our backyard again, and one of the corners was not cleaned up. Larger pieces of twigs (not the thin ones that could easily get mowed up) were still on our front lawn, so I had to pick all of those up so it wouldn't damage our gardener's lawn mower. And I even had to clean up our neighbor's yard because they failed to clean up twigs and branches on their side as well. Mind you, I do not expect every twig and leaf to be cleaned up, but there were some smaller branches and thicker twigs all over the place. I even ended up raking up two decent-sized piles of leaves because they just blew the leaves around without really cleaning them up. While they did what was asked of them, I really didn't appreciate the mess they left and the attitude. read more

Came out quickly for an estimate. Kept in contact on availabilities. Then had a guy out to cut out my stump for the flat fee of $200. Instead of using the grinder he dug it out further and cut it out with a chainsaw and hauled the stump away. Good and fast stump removal. Don't waste money and effort trying to get those dang stumps out yourself. We wasted half a year digging, drilling holes, pouring stump killer, sawing off roots for them to just come in with a chainsaw and deal with it in 45 minutes lol. Highly recommended read more

These guys just trashed all my beautiful tropical plants while trimming our two palm trees. Talked the the foreman, Jesus, about it and he just gave me a lot of attitude about it and said they were leaving. in the past we paid hundreds less to have this done and my other plants were not destroyed. Unfortunately our regular tree trimmer was gone on vacation. He had never done this. He used a rope to lower the pods so they didn't crush everything. Jesus said they never do this. they just drop everything into your flower beds, smashing everything. they destroyed about 6 banana trees that were between 4-8 feet tall, all my white ginger plants and some other tropical plants. I will try to add pictures. In one picture you can see my neighbors house which used to be totally hidden by my banana trees. My next door neighbor just came over to tell me that they broke a couple of branches on his fig tree. They were just throwing palm fronts to the ground and some were going on my neighbors roof and yard. read more

TL;DR: Great work for a fair price. I worked with Al. He came by to do the quote. We walked around the property I have in Cameron Park identifying all of the issues. I had recently purchased the property, which has numerous mature oak trees that hadn't been tended to in many years. We talked through the pros and cons of doing or not doing various things and I had a full quote in-hand at the end of the meeting. A week later, the team came out to knock out the work and I came home from work to everything having been completed. I'm giving Bud's five stars and I've never used them. I've never used them because they told me I didn't need they're service! Who DOES that?? My tenant told me there were bugs on a tree in the front yard. I asked Bud's for a quote to cut it down. Chris came out, took a bug (or maybe a picture), and sent it to his "bug guy". Bug guy said the bugs were not only NOT harmful, they were actually beneficial so don't kill them and don't cut the tree down. So while I was stressing about spending money at Holiday time to cut a tree down or treat for bugs, instead I got the GREAT news that nothing needed to be done! Bud's was here at my house this morning to trim back three large plum trees and about a dozen large bushes. The trees and bushes are on a slight hill next to the sidewalk and had branches and offshoots sprawling all over, even lower on their trunks. When I came around the corner to see the finished product I was awestruck. The trees had been transformed into beautiful, eye-catching wonders. Bud's Tri County Tree Service comes though again. The 70' oak lost a huge branch due to transpiration, which is common in Sacramento's summertime. It took down power lines and electrical transformers. Bud's estimator Albert came over within a day to bid the job. Their tree crew was scheduled about a week out. The crews did excellent work over 6 days to safely take down the beautiful monster tree. In the end, Bud's did a good job for a good price. The estimator/crew boss (Chris) was good at scheduling service quickly and following-up with appointments and issues. I contacted Bud's to trim my silver maple, including removing a lot of dead stuff. While Chris was here for the estimate, he also recommended removal of a tallow and fig tree that have begun to get out of control and were starting to damage my patio. I had to have them come back out a second time because they left one big dead piece in the maple that should have been removed. But, Chris agreed right away they should have gotten it the first time and in the end the tree looks really good. Their clean-up of my yard wasn't great, but not bad enough to complain about - I just needed to pick up some small branches and re-blow the patio and furniture. I like that they are a West Sac business. I most likely will use them again. read more

I was referred to Doug of Bud's Tree Service through family. Doug responded to my call and was courteous and professional on the phone. We scheduled a walk through of my yard (1/2 acre) wherein I needed several trees cleaned up and trimmed. Again, he was polite, professional extraordinarily positive. We set a scope of work and a tentative fee. I was able to reach him after hours by text when my significant other wanted to add some additional trimming of hedges. I had a large tree that had to come down in my front yard, along with some other trimming that was needed. Doug came out and gave me an estimate that I felt was acceptable. His guys came out and did the work, including poisoning the stump. They returned a couple of weeks later to grind the stump. They did a decent job with the clean up. I soon found that they did not get all of the stump. I was glad that they ca,e out and did some more grinding. However, after they left, I saw that some of the stump was still present. I wish I could give 10 stars. I found this company on Yelp! And was apprehensive to cut down some overgrown trees. Met with Al who came out promptly to give me a quote. He identified my trees as a non bearing Mulberry, a locust and two 65 ft. Palm trees. After a quick meeting i was given a VERY reasonable estimate for removal and stump grinding. The crew arrived in the morning and everyone was super professional, courteous amd hardworking. They made quick work of the trees. I was so impressed by their talent and the equiptment they used. My neighbors were impressed as well. The trees were mulched and larger stumps pieces were taken to the dumps. The stumps were grinded down very well. After looking for a dependable and professional tree service for quite some time, we decided to go with Bud's. These guys do a great job-- both for tree removal, and tree trimming. We will definitely use them again. Unlike a lot of companies that may make you wait weeks just to get an estimate, or even a phone call back, they are very responsive. Ryan, came right out the morning after I called. He was friendly, took his time discussing all of our tree issues, and wrote up an itemized estimate on the spot. Once we decided to schedule with them, they were here within a week, and on-time--another bonus. Our birch tree's top third was snapped by the wind, but we wanted to try and save the remaining tree for a while longer. I was concerned that the tree would look weird if it was 'topped', but the crew did such a nice job trimming the jagged trunk and working with the remaining branches around the break. It looks 'natural' and almost like it was always that way. We also had a large, diseased fruitless pear tree removed, and they made quick work of that. We thought for sure they would have to access our neighbor's backyard, but it was no problem for them to bring the whole tree down on our side. Using ropes, (and physics :) ) they were pros at controlling the falling tree. They were also careful at hauling all of it out through our side-yard, taking care not to damage fencing, gates, stucco, etc. The crew seemed very experienced and worked efficiently together. If I had any questions, Justin was kind enough to answer them. They have nice trucks and all the proper gear for whatever they need to do. They used the hydraulic bucket lift to trim up a large camphor tree (front yard) away from the roofline--definitely the best trimming that tree has ever had. After part of an oak tree in our yard fell on our house, I got several quotes to have it removed in fear it would eventually cause more damage to either my house or my neighbor's house. Bud's quote was in the same neighborhood as other companies and they were quick to provide me with the quote and schedule me for the tree removal project. On the day of the removal project, their crew showed up early and got to work right away. When I returned home from work, I found they had not only removed the tree and left the wood cut into fireplace lengths on my patio, but they had also cleaned up nicely around where they worked, along with my back and front yard where they had travelled to and from the wood chipper on the street.
