We are SO lucky we found Buen Vecino. Our first night in PR was not very good. Overpriced bad restaurant and horrible check in at the Airbnb but our start to the next day at Buen Vecino really picked us up! Our experience started from before we entered. I was helping my mom read the sign outside "nos reservamos el derecho de la admisión" and as I was telling her derecha means right, a nice couple came out and explained how it also means "the right" and basically was the right to refuse service etc. They were just so friendly that we asked them for help finding sun block etc, not realizing there was a Walgreens less than a mile away. They were very kind. Then we get inside and the female at the counter was extremely patient and helpful when my mom was asking for something a little off menu - more of a Denny's breakfast. She's exactly the kind of employee you want in front of house. Cute little cafe spot with adorable decorations. I got an iced latte and it was the perfect flavor. Not too sweet or too milky or too watered down by ice. Somehow they made the perfect balance of flavors. Good portions. Great GREAT prices.

Delicious food. Cozy cafe. We had different sandwiches, lemonade, passion fruit juice, and coffee. Good taste and good prices.

La comida estaba riquísima! El sándwich de atún fue, sin duda, el mejor que he probado en mi vida. El lugar tenía un ambiente encantador, me encantó! Ya quiero regresar!

Parking is tough as most cafes in the area. Interior is clean and spacious. Order some pasta with my coffee. Portion was a good size so I'll be having leftovers for dinner. Waitress was patient with my not being able to speak Spanish and knew to provide me with an English menu.

Coffee

Breakfast ambiance. US vibe. Great take on a healthy version of brioche french toast - had fruit plus granola and was good. Can work on laptop easily. Coffee good.

This is a little gem! Instead of going to Old San Juan were it can be crowded and expensive, my sister and I decided to try this small cafe away from the crowds. We did not expect to have such a great experience coming here. The staff is super friendly and attentive and sweet. The food was soooooo delicious! The coffee was super delicious. I am super picky with my coffee but they did a great job with it. I also ordered one of their smoothies before leaving and it was so goooood! The decor is something I really want to talk about. Going in I didn't expect to be seated in my own little room. It had really cute decor and the table was so different which I loved. Underneath the glass on the table were custom notes and drawings from I believe customers. I thought that that was such a nice and sweet touch to add. I would definitely recommend coming here. My sister and I will be back :)

If you have just arrived in San Juan after a flight you have to come to Buen Vecino Café. The "His and Her" breakfast is delicious, it has a combination of potatoes, eggs, French toasts and fresh fruit with oatmeal. If you are a vegetarian, the "Jardinera Omelette" is the option ... it has eggs with spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. The decoration details are also beautiful

Glass of parcha ($3), huevo plancha ($4), and 'Lorenzo & Pepita' breakfast sandwich ($5) with chips. Killer breakfast items, dude!

THE GOOD NEIGHBOR This converted house serves some locally-grown coffee and terrific breakfast items in San Juan! After discovering that Nichole C's favorite spot 'Latte Que Latte' was closed on Saturday 1/5/19, we quickly redirected to this place nearby. It wound up being an excellent choice as we found a seat immediately after arriving around 10am. She explained to me that Buen Vecino Café used to be a single family home. Cool! Though known for their cups of morning joe, I'm not a coffee drinker so I opted for a hot chamomile tea ($2.20). My better half got a glass of parcha for $3 (passion fruit juice) and latte for $2.65. They had a ton of options for cappuccinos, frappuccinos, probably even a PSL if you asked nicely enough. I got a breakfast sandwich, the "Lorenzo & Pepita" ($5). It had a fried egg, bacon, ham, tomato, and onions with melted cheese on toasted (slightly sweet) bread. All the ingredients matched together perfectly; it was one of the tastiest breakfast sammies I've ever had! Came with chips, too. Her 'huevo plancha' ($4) was your typical breakfast item of two eggs, jamón and pan sobao (Puerto Rican bread). Good value, but otherwise not terribly exciting. You can purchase individual bags of coffee here, which of course she couldn't pass up. Bread = 5 Circuses = 4.5 There's no waiters, since this place is counter service only.....you even clear your own plates. The fact that it's in a converted house is super fun and reminds me of Blue Max Coffee in Forest Park, IL (also a remodeled home-turned-breakfast spot with killer coffee). * TL;DR * It's quaint, it's local, and the breakfast sandwich I had ranks among the best to ever exist. The interior is totes adorbs and the menu has plenty of great things to pick from. I'd definitely recommend Buen Vecino Café for those in the San Juan metro area, or anyone on their way to/from the airport.

A hidden gem! The food and service are great! It is a really small place, but they will do their best to accommodate a large party. The El y Ella breakfast was delicious, highly recommended.

Bistec sándwich with a side of fruit and a mimosa

Cute little place! Delicious choices! I could not choose what to order. I ended up with the bistec sandwich and a side of fruits. The people were so friendly. Our waiter kept checking in on nice. It wasn't too crowded on a Saturday morning. Would eat here again.

Great coffee!!!

We sat down for dinner at 7:45 and did not receive our drinks until 8:20, even though we put in our order as soon as we sat down... and asked politely how much longer until our drinks would come out... twice. Food did not come out for an hour and half, it was cold by the time we got it. Mac and cheese is not great cold. The ribs are extremely overcooked and like eating beef jerky. Drinks were okay, but by the time we got them everyone's cocktails were watered down, as well as the soft drinks. The ambiance was not great either since everyone around us was visibly frustrated by the wait times and lack of service, a table across flagged the waitress multiple times to ask where their stuff was. The food was decent, but again, cold. The wait times were no joke. We wrapped up our 7:45 dinner around 10, simply because of how long it took to be served. Our waitress came to our table maybe 3 times total, we would have to stand and find her to figure out where our food/drinks were. They were also out of a good majority of items on the menu when we tried to order them. Overall I unfortunately don't recommend! Price, service, and food are not great.

This local family-owned restaurant was a hit with our entire group of four. I ordered the Super Bowl Scramble, and wow, was it delicious. It was loaded with ham, sausage, eggs, potatoes seasoned with rosemary (which I absolutely love), and plenty of melted cheese. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. My friend ordered the Power Omelette, her husband had the Famous French Toast, and my husband chose the Ashford Special. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and was impressed with both the quality and the generous portions. I also had a fresh-squeezed orange juice, and it was absolutely delicious--fresh, sweet, and the perfect complement to breakfast. The portions are large, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We left full, happy, and glad we stopped in. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great breakfast!

I was so excited because I'd heard so many great things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Be aware that this is a very small restaurant with only about 15-20 seats, so it fills up quickly. We arrived with no wait, but by the time we were eating, there was already a long line outside. Also, if you're in a hurry, this may not be the best choice. Everything is made fresh from scratch, so the food does take a while to come out. Service is definitely on island time, but once the food arrives, you'll understand why--it's well worth the wait. I ordered the California Surfer wrap, and wow...it was absolutely amazing! Everyone in our group raved about their meals, and the fresh-squeezed orange juice was out of this world. I'm honestly sad we only made it here once during our week in Puerto Rico. I would absolutely come back again and highly recommend Pinky's to anyone looking for a fresh, delicious breakfast. It felt so nice after getting overheated right before we got there. One thing I noticed while wandering around Old San Juan is that some restaurants likely survive on location and foot traffic alone, while others earn people seeking them out. Semilla definitely felt like the latter. It's tucked just around the corner from some of the busiest pedestrian areas, so it felt like we escaped the crowds for a little while without actually going very far. Overall, I'd happily come back. If you're staying nearby and looking for a good meal without being surrounded by the busiest tourist crowds, Semilla is well worth checking out.

This is global techniques blended with locally sourced Puerto Rican ingredients. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. I was there to celebrate my birthday (a reservation is a must). I asked if I could be seated in a different section of the restaurant, and even though they were packed, they said absolutely and found me a lovely seat in the bar area. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. I suffer from severe food allergies but wanted to experience their tasting menu. My server spoke to the chef directly and then took the time to walk me through every option. I TRULY appreciated that they did not take anything off the menu but rather told me how they could adjust for my allergies. That is very rare and so very much appreciated that they went that extra mile for me. I highly recommend the tasting menu. It's 5 courses and they give you 3 options to choose from, within each course. And for the price ($85), a great value. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend the Breadfruit Gnocchi, Rainbow Runner Crudo, and Criollo Duck Mofongo. Chefs kiss! The standout of the evening was the Criollo Duck Mofongo, which was absolutely exquisite and easily the best mofongo we had on our trip by far. The cocktails were tasty and unique, but a bit small for the price. This definitely isn't an every-night kind of restaurant...the prices are on the higher side.
