This review is for Buff City Soap in Midtown for birthday parties. My daughter was invited to a friend's birthday party. 8 little girls were invited to make bath bombs. It was a 1.5 hour party (which, for a busy mom with another kid at home, was much appreciated!). Each kid was given a work station, goggles, and an apron. She got to pick a scent for her bath bomb, and she was given supplies to make 6 bath bombs. Each kid got to pick one color for the base, and then after the spheres dried, they got to paint them with colored bath oils. While the kids were waiting for their bath bombs to dry, there was time for eating (the work stations were moved so the kids could eat at the same counter). The staff was friendly, the project was fun enough, and the kids seemed to have a great time. My daughter liked being able to take something home at the end of the party. As a parent, I do wish there was space for me to sit. As it was a rainy day, going outside wasn't an option. Also, for people who are scent-sensitive, BCS can be overwhelming. I don't think my husband could have spent 2 hours in that store. read more

I learned about Buff City through one of the Yelp Elites events we had a few years ago. Since then I have been to the new location in Clearwater as it is much closer to my house but when in Tampa, I still like to visit this shopping plaza and make sure I stop in to see if there is anything new. This latest trip we had Laura (Ben's Mom) with us and I just knew this would be right up her alley. She is really big on things be organic, etc. and I thought that she might like the laundry soap items in particular, which is also why I wanted go this visit. I had gotten some given to me in a sample pack from a previous purchase and it worked wonders when I couldn't get anything else to work. If you can take a trip to Midtown Tampa and NOT stop by Buff City Soap, you're a stronger person than I am. I love to walk around the clean and inviting store, smelling all of the different soaps. They even have a few fall scents out already! The associates are always friendly and helpful, and the shop is laid out well so that you can easily move from display to display. I eventually make my way to the area with the items in the Narcissist fragrance though, because it is my favorite. I'm currently washing my bed linens in their Narcissist laundry detergent, and I'm swooning over the lovely smell. There was a group for a birthday party coming in the door as I left today, and it made me think about how fun it would be to have a soap making party here. read more

Well, I never expected myself to be in a store that sells soap and related skin and personal care products. Yet here I am. Head that this place was opening in the Midtown plaza, where I've been to many other stores. Wife wanted to check them out for Mother's Day so i decided to oblige and tag along. Parking is plentiful in the surrounding garages, which was great. We needed up being there on the 3rd day of grand opening weekend and scored a couple of freebies, which was a nice bonus. First impressions? The store is bright, colorful, and actually smelled good! When you walk in, they have all of their various scented items organized into their own sections, which included soaps, lotions, laundry detergent and other associated items. The staff was helpful and always checked to make s=they answer any questions we had and to direct us to product we might be looking for. Long story short, I got soaps, detergents, lotions, and soap bar holder/loofah. They have men's products in there selection so I didn't feel left out at all. To be honest, I liked the different scents and many actually reminded me of my wife (I guess she e=smells like lavender and other stuff...lol). The really nice thing is that all the products are organic and pretty much made in house. Nice change from the standard chemicals used in body washes and other similar products. I'll try these products out and if I like them and they do what they're supposed to do, I'll be back. If you get a chance to go to Midtown, at least drop into Buff City Soap and take a sniff. I was first introduced to this spot during a Yelp Elite event a year ago and have been back several times since after having taken advantage of their special for buying $50 and getting a free bar of soap for a year. Trust me, that was worth it! What sets them apart from the rest is that YOU CAN SEE the workers making the soaps right there in house. Is there a lotion or a sugar scrub in which you want a special scent for? No problem! Ask them to make it for you, and they will! The products are outstanding too and come in a large variety of wonderful scents that change seasonally. The soaps make is a joy to clean and leaves my skin nice and soft without any kind of film or residue. The lotions are whipped creams that you only need a little to go a long way and it leaves you smelling great on top of moisturized. As a special treat to myself, I love using their sugar scrubs. It is very fine in texture, and a like their body creams, a little goes a long way to buff out the rough areas of your skin that leaves you perfectly smooth. The staff here is always super nice, and the store itself is tidy and clean with all their products beautifully displayed. I love coming here with my sweet little Muffin by my side, and she too loves to come here (but of course, she loves it for other reasons--she can't come here without being shown lots of love by staff and other patrons!). They also offer a wide array of candles, bath bombs, lip balms, laundry soaps, and other products for laundry care that's worth checking out. The store is a very cool concept and the set up is aesthetically pleasing. I enjoyed walking around here while passing the time. They had a cool sink set-up where you could test some products and wash them off which I found to be a nice touch. Sadly, the products I sampled did not live up to the hype. Keep in mind scents are super subjective. Almost none of the soap bars I smelled had any scent except for the peppermint one (I believe it was called "breathe easy" and meant for congestion). I tried the foam hand soaps, epsom salts, soap whip, and lotion sticks. No luck finding a pleasing and present smell. I went so far as to use the hand soap, soap whip, and lotion sticks on my hands but could not smell a thing. Perhaps if I bought some thing and gave it a few chances at home I would feel differently, but I did not find anything I would want to spend money on. That being said, while I was there they were hosting a bath fizzy class where you were able to make some and bring them home, which I think would be a fun experiencing worthy of the time and money. read more

It smells like high-end sandalwood cologne and has a neat look to it, see pic below. The ingredients include olive oil, coconut oil, and rapseedate oils. My main concern is the fragrance listed. Buff City Soap is my newest obsession. My whole family enjoys coming here, even the dog! Parking is super easy in the Midtown garage and we always bring the dog for a nice little walk in the square. No trip is complete without a little splurge at BCS. The kids always talk me into a bath bomb and I have a stockpile of their laundry detergents as they are the best! I have even hosted my daughter's birthday party here! The staff is very kind and helpful and will make you anything you want or if your product with your favorite smell isn't on the shelves. I highly recommend hosting a party here because everyone gets to dress up like mad scientists for a guided class on how to make soap or bath bombs and you get an automatic party favor!! I heard about this place through Yelp as there was an elite even here a while back. I wasn't able to attend so I was interested in seeing what it was like. My friends and I were at Midtown for lunch so afterwards I dipped into Buff. Right away I was greeted with beautiful handmade soaps and a helpful clerk to let me know about the day's sales. I ended up getting a mix of soaps, bath bombs and shower scent things. Some are gifts, some are for me. There is a big demo area where staff are making soaps. Noticed this store while dining in Midtown and WOW! From the moment I walked in the scents combined were amazing. Cute boutique type store with several variety's of bath and body products along with laundry soap. The sale associate mentioned the soap are vegan which was great to hear, those were about $8 a bar and the body creams were around $13. I opted to try the 4 ingredients Laundry Soap ($21.50). Never paid that much for laundry soap but took a chance. I washed my clothes the next day and the Fresh Cotton scent aroma could be smelled throughout the house while it was washing. Love the place and so happy we have one in Tampa. We were at the opening of the one in Clemson SC. The soaps are great and feel good on your skin. Love that they have some scents designed just for Tampa. They have a Buccaneers and Lightning themed bar that we purchased for our neighbors. We had them box it up as a gift and it was perfect. They make the soap there on location which is also pretty cool. The reason for the 4-stars is that it can get a little pricy. With the economy the way it is, it is hard to justify an $8-$9 bar of soap. read more

For starters my child was at a birthday party and the African American girls that was the manager and the assistant manager were completely rude to the children just seem like they do not like working with children. And was screaming at the kids to stop touching things in the store.. when they were told to pick out soap for their scents. this is a store where they say it has" no harsh chemicals or detergents." But yet when I called & complained that my kid is breaking out in hives and refused to give me a refund. The employees need a wake up call. 1 week ago, today, my hair was horribly disfigured in a freak bong~lighting accident. Since then, it's been lifeless, straight & flat, regardless of what shampoo, conditioner or hot~oil treatments I used. Hay~bail~hair, basically. People rarely saw me out of a hat this week. I felt bad for everyone but mostly for myself. My wife tried to convince me that "that's just what happens to men's hair after they've been around for half~a~century". I REALLY tried to come to terms with it. "Hats aren't so bad, right?!?! Lot's of options... heck, maybe 1 of my hats will even spark a conversation with a pretty girl... remember that neon~green *trucker~cap* that has MIAMI emblazoned on it in costume~jewelry that you keep in your closet???? That's a good one." These were the thoughts *on repeat* in my mind. Seriously. Sounds funny now but it was truly self~inflicted torture. Yesterday I try my wife's *buff~city* soap on my hair in the shower before bed, under the urging of a voice way at the back of the chattering crowd in my mind. "Why not??" It desperately shouted at me. "You can't possibly look any worse." I knew it was right. So I blow my nose, wipe away my tears. Pick myself up off the bathroom floor & get in the shower. I wake up this morning at 4:59 am[the photo is time~stamped for authenticity] & THIS is what I saw in the mirror. Goodbye soaps, shampoos, hot~oil treatments and $200 men's hair~cuts FOREVER!!!! From now on, the only 2 items I shower with are 2 bars of this soap. A brown 1 for my butt & a different colored one for the rest of me to avoid any salty & tangy mistakes. Which reminds me...
