The chute entrance into the canal is suited for anyone - but especially useful for elders or those with mobility issues. But the best part of Erie Canal Boat Company in Fairport is the owner Pete. He wants everyone to love boating and get the best experience possible. First he has and knows everything about the equipment and will get you perfectly situated for what you need to have an amazing time out on the water. What really shines is his personality though... Pete is a giver and is generous with his time, expertise and enthusiasm for paddling. He not only runs the shop, but helps get you in and out of the boat and safely in and out of the canal. He loves what he does and he loves helping you get out and enjoying the canal. His enthusiasm is contagious. He is simply THE BEST!!! We had the best time this morning and can't wait to spend many days this summer out on the water with Pete's help. Just be brave and go. It's the most wonderful feeling!

The water was clean in some parts and not in others. There were a few large branches we had to avoid. We got a quick good lesson on kayaking before we went into the water; it was very helpful. Our kayaking journey was absolutely beautiful. We passed a whole lot of ducks. They really kept us entertained. We passed a cute park, went through some gorgeous neighborhoods. Overall, there were a lot of trees on the shore by the canal so it felt very serene. I would recommend kayaking here! :)

There was a couple of odd states thrown our way when we first arrived. Not sure they expected us to show up when the demographics was older, white, and clearly in love with the cover band which was playing the Beatles. The bartenders however, were phenomenal. They seemed to be enjoying themselves which always makes the experience better. The inside has seating for I imagine 100. There are picnic benches all over plus some of them have small table games to play. There are a few benches outside in the front and then when you get to the back there are more plus other games and an overall nice area to chill in. Parking is abundant and there are so many side streets where you'll always find a spot.

Everyone who works here is friendly, accommodating, and a lover of good beer. They brew their own and, according to everyone I know who's been here, it's almost always delicious. They don't serve food apart from chips, so it's not a gastro pub by any means. However, if it's good drink, good entertainment, and good company you're looking for, you've come to not only the right place, but the best place. They get so many good bands and comedians here! The last time I went, I saw my favorite stand up comic. The atmosphere is cheerful but not rowdy. So if you're the type of person who loves to meet new, fun people who love and consume beer, come to Flying Bison. Not only will you have a great time, you'll also have a good brew to settle down with. Also, they allow dogs. What's not to love?

I recently went on these boats as part of a team building afternoon with my company. I will admit,…read morethe reason I did not try this sooner was because of the expense, and the inability to fill a boat with friends who want to pedal away and hang out on the water! We went out on a gray day, and we knew the rain was coming, but we were prepared. We dressed appropriately, and the captain and first mate explained that we would need to turn back if we saw lightning, for safety. That was totally OK, and we all understood. The crew was friendly and incredibly professional. People tend to forget that boats are serious vessels, and you can easily drown, and need to know the safety procedures. They got that out of the way quickly, but we were fully informed of all the safety procedures and protocols (including the lightning warning). We spent an hour heading out to the lake, had a bluetooth hookup so one of us could DJ while we floated away. The center part has 2 deep coolers where you can load up ice, drinks, etc. You can bring whatever snacks and drinks you want! We had a wonderful time chatting, pedaling, drinking and noshing. We were caught in the rain but thanks to the roof we didn't notice! We all stayed totally dry while on the boat (we did get a little soaked running form the boat to our cars, but that's to be expected!). There are port a potty's at the launch site so you can feel at ease that there is a bathroom. There is a large sign to tell you where to go when you arrive at the parking lot. There is a sunshade and picnic tables while you wait. You have to park in the apartment complex lot, and you just head towards the water- it's not hard to find, but use your GPS if you are unsure. It was a really nice adventure, a great team building event, a unique experience, and definitely something to try this summer!

We were greeted by the whole family (they have a young daughter) in the foyer upon arrival and were walked through how to use the electronic lock pad and all of the rooms available to us on the first floor - two seating areas, the dining room, and an antique souvenir/Buffalo maps room. There's a piano, many fireplaces, and a chess board, as well as a small fridge/freezer for anyone to use. Daniel let us know there were breakfast seating times from 6:30-8am so we let them know we wanted to sit for the 8am. Holly showed us to our room and brought a pitcher of water and glasses for us. The rooms were beautiful and perfectly sized. We had the Sparrow room, which may be the smallest but we had plenty of space. The furniture has so much character and Daniel explained that everything's been reupholstered so every piece was still in perfect shape. Our room had a fireplace, armoire, tv, and dresser with a beautifully redone bathroom connected. The bathrobes were incredible and the plumbing was much better than expected with an old house - did not wait long for hot water and the toilet worked extremely well. We explored downtown for dinner time and came back with a bottle of wine to play some chess before bed. Daniel graciously provided a corkscrew and wine glasses and told us about the history of the house before we went up to sleep. The bed was very comfortable and there was an air conditioning unit in the window that we could control. The next morning we went to the dining room for breakfast and it was DELICIOUS! More than I ever expected - a peach pastry with what tasted like homemade whip, a yogurt parfait with home grown and made fig jam, a cold pressed celery/pear/apple/ginger juice, and finally our choice of sweet (banana fosters French toast with bacon) or savory (herb cream cheese, lox, onion, and capers on everything bagel crisps with a poached egg) so we did one of each :) 4 courses with coffee and water while admiring the beautiful fig tree right outside the window... incredible. Holly and Daniel are doing an AMAZING job here and I cannot recommend this place enough. 17/10!!!!

My niece had booked a bus tour for her family and myself to celebrate my recent retirement. The night before, we received notice that the bus had broken down and it looked like our adventure was going to be canceled. We were surprised when the owner/operator Joel, offered to salvage the experience and still meet us at the Richardson complex to give us a walking tour of both the newly renovated area as well as the spooky abandoned space. It was pretty cool as it was just the 5 of us and him. Joel is a wealth of knowledge with a humorous twist as he led us through the gorgeous reimagined hotel areas. He actually sat us down and explained how the former psyche center operated and took us through some gorgeous areas full of architectural treasures, mosaic tiled floors and some really interesting stories. Then it was on to the abandoned areas. It's incredible that the complex could get this dilapidated. It will take generations for this place to be fully restored. Joel's personal stories and desire to tell them really made the experience. He definitely turned what could have been a disappointment into a memorable experience. I easily forgot about the bus portion of the tour and will remember the fun facts and the personal touch that Joel provided for us. Even the most seasoned Buffalonian will find these tours interesting and fun. I can't wait to go again when the bus is fixed, but then again, if it's not, Joel can turn the experience around! Thank you for the extra attention! It made all the difference.
