Came in on a Saturday. I think for it being my first drink of the day. It was a fine place. I don't think I would be here any later in the day. There was a couple of odd states thrown our way when we first arrived. Not sure they expected us to show up when the demographics was older, white, and clearly in love with the cover band which was playing the Beatles. The bartenders however, were phenomenal. They seemed to be enjoying themselves which always makes the experience better. The inside has seating for I imagine 100. There are picnic benches all over plus some of them have small table games to play. There are a few benches outside in the front and then when you get to the back there are more plus other games and an overall nice area to chill in. Parking is abundant and there are so many side streets where you'll always find a spot. read more

This is absolutely my favorite brewery in Buffalo and I don't even drink beer! The owner, Tim, pours a mean hard cider for this gluten free gal, however. Everyone who works here is friendly, accommodating, and a lover of good beer. They brew their own and, according to everyone I know who's been here, it's almost always delicious. They don't serve food apart from chips, so it's not a gastro pub by any means. However, if it's good drink, good entertainment, and good company you're looking for, you've come to not only the right place, but the best place. They get so many good bands and comedians here! The last time I went, I saw my favorite stand up comic. The atmosphere is cheerful but not rowdy. So if you're the type of person who loves to meet new, fun people who love and consume beer, come to Flying Bison. Our great cousin Dave passed last week unexpectedly, and the FB was his second home. XRay Dave they called him, and although he was at ease anywhere, this was his go-to. The afternoon after he passed, Aimee and I stopped in to tell them the news and to lift a pint in his honor, and they had the bar set up with his favorite beer and photos of him as well. When we asked Tim if we could have the funeral lunch there, he said anything for Dave. While Rusty Chain has been my go-to draft whenever I see it, I hadn't spent much time in the facility (an upgrade from the original one). It has the most friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere; and you can tell they love their craft and their customers. The board has ~12 beers on tap, and there is also a fridge with cans. High ceilings with Edison lights make the space very welcoming, and the benches ensure you'll meet a new friend when you sit down. Dog-friendly as well! There are also tons of shirts and such; in most of the recent photos of Dave he was proudly wearing one or the other, and he had one on for his final trip home. read more

The space on the inside is fantastic and filled with a huge bar, high tops and picnic benches, every kind of seating that you could possibly want in a brewery. Flying Bison is closed on Mondays, but we were there last night to celebrate the lives of two friends, recently lost. Many, many friends, mostly runners, came out to raise a glass. The bar was full and there were also many others sitting outside, under the tent. Tim Herzog also arranged for there to be a nice buffet of make it yourself tacos from Burrito Bay. Flying Bison has been very involved in the community since it opened in 2000. This was just one more example of giving back, a chance for Tony and Jerry's friends to come together. read more

Totally awesome spot. Nice space inside and outside. We stopped by on our way to Niagara Falls USA side. There was live music outside and most everyone was out there, we sat by the door and were able to hear the music pretty good and still be able to talk to each other with out yelling bc of the music. I got a flight of beers and my wife got a sour. The beers were pretty good, especially the mango peach kolsch. I like a wide variety of beers so my flight had the kolsch, a lager, IPA, and a porter. I am always able to find something to try when I come here and am never disappointed. This time I went with the cherry sour and wow! You could really taste the cherry flavor. My friend got the peach white ale and I would go back for that one alone. We were able to sit outside on the patio which was perfect for the weather. There is a good amount of seating outside, indoors too but there was a party going on so we stayed outside. The bartenders were quick and you can always ask to try a beer before getting a full pour. Flying Bison has been having a lot of food trucks and activity going on in their parking lot. I was able to snag some BBQ from Fat Bob's food truck. I've stopped in a few times during the quarantine period and they've been selling beer outside (even in the rain). Erie County Fair beer Roll out the barrel party. The first keg just got tapped and I am am enjoying a glass now. A very nice pale ale, dark, not too hoppy or too bitter. A very nice beer. Besides at the brewery it is available at Tops and Consumer Beverages. Of course you can have a glass (or more than one) at the Fair (the best 12 days of summer). read more

Even though I'm not a beer drinker I always enjoy coming here. They do also serve ciders, hard seltzers mule kicker which is one of my favorites. The people are very friendly and you can tell they are passionate about their craft. The restaurant itself has a very limited food menu but if you check them out on social media you will find that there are times they host various food trucks. Usually on Food truck Tuesday you can find most of the food trucks at Larkin Square with the music, but further down at Flying Bison there's a few more. During the public health emergency most places were closed but they stayed open doing curbside orders which I definitely took advantage of as a Larkin resident. But they didn't stop there! They also had many days where they hosted various food trucks such as Kindred Kreek, Anderson's, and Fat Bob's. This was a great distraction to the fact that the usually busy area of Larkin was a ghost town. It also allowed a sense of normalcy during such a difficult time. As things begin to open back up check them out. Starting June 19th they will have their patio open with tent covering and socially distant tables set up on Fridays and Saturdays. read more

I've come here a few times now mainly for trivia events. The place is spacious and the seating is roomy which I appreciate. The bar is great. I personally like their kolsch. They even have some small food items like mozzarella sticks and pretzels. Pretzels were not my cup of tea but the mozzarella sticks are decent. Side note: the trivia is NOT for the younger crowd. I came here two days ago to pick up their newest release. It's their Chocolate Cherry Porter and it's great!! I wanted to buy a four pack but asked if I could try some first. I liked it so I bought two four packs. (Support local, right?) I was here once for a group run in mid-July. That was nice. They do have some food offerings. Currently they have small bags of Doritos and other chips for purchase because you have to buy some kind of food in order to drink alcohol during the pandemic. I've tried some of their foods here and they're good. I've tried many of their beers. I prefer the beer I bought today, their Spot Coffee stout and their Paula's Donuts Red Velvet Ale beer. I like that they have non-alcohol options but I haven't tried any of those. Flying Bison hosts the Run 716 15K every year in early August. It's a fun race with a great after party. The after party is outside with the employees pouring beer for the runners. There is a band and an emcee. I've been here for a few group runs that the brewery hosts. I came here for a workout hosted by Revolution Buffalo. The tables were moved aside and there were many people exercising inside the tasting room/brewery. A who dun-it murder mystery bus tour started at this brewery. The actors explained what happened when the tour got rolling as everyone had a beer or drink. I did that a couple years ago with friends. It was a great experience. There are many other events held here throughout the year that I haven't participated in but I might. They have about six tables here or you can stand at the bar area, where you order your drinks and food. They have a lot of parking in their own lot, back lot or you can parking on the street near here. There was a band a few times when I was here and it was a bit too loud to converse with friends. The staff is great, as is the owner Tom Herzog. I toured their old brewery on Ohio Street with friends years ago and he led a great tour. I hope to tour the current location someday. Probably one of my favorite breweries in Western New York! They also have a wide variety of beers (not just IPAs) and a great space for hanging out (both indoors and outdoors) not to mention great prices! Tim Herzog, the owner, is very knowledgeable and I got the pleasure of going on a tour of the facility this past Wednesday, which was really a treat! I also love that they have their own lot and free parking all around if that's full. They might not have much in the way of food besides your typical munchies, but if you go on a Tuesday or Wednesday, food trucks can be found in their lot or across the street at Larkin Square. We have come here twice now for "Beer Choir." The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus sings and patrons are invited to sign along. I don't drink beer, but I do eat plenty of snacks and drink a ton of root beer when given the chance. I ended up coming to Flying Bison Brewing Company on Thursday to celebrate one of my co-workers leaving for a new opportunity. My visit did not start off very good as the first thing I did was order a Sarniac ginger beer (which was located directly behind the counter) and being told they didn't have that, even though I was physically pointing to it. The girl actually got pretty mad that I asked for it twice and then just gave me root beer. The best part came not 45 second later when somebody else I was with asked her for the exact same thing and was handed it.....what? I spent most of my trip here outside which was nice. They have a bunch of large picnic tables to drink, have snacks, or even bring food from the outside and eat on, which I thought was super cool. I got pretty hungry after an hour and decided to give one of there polish pizza things and a pretzel a try, both things I regret not getting as soon as I walked through the front door. The polish pizza basically looked like a crescent with tomato sauce on it, but none the less it tasted really good and was super hot. I really loved the pretzel as it was super fresh, super hot, and super soft. Overall, everyone I was with was generally pretty happy with the experience, I was happy with the food, and minus my interaction with the one girl behind the bar the staff seemed pretty friendly. One thing I do know is that I will be back very soon for more of those pretzels! read more

First time visiting the new location a few weeks ago and was very impressed! As you walk into the Flying Bison Brewery, they showcase local artwork (WHICH IS AWESOME!) Dan & I tried a flight of beers..my favorite was the "Hoppy Hour Hero moe.saic ipa" @ 8.3 % alcohol- trust me with that alcohol content a tasting is all ya need! : ) The employees with very knowledgeable and friendly which is a PLUS! For a snack they offered from the local longtime bakery MAZUREK's soft good sized pretzels actually made with one of the flying bisons beer. It was very tasty..esp with the mustard! Pizza rolls were also offered, but we will try that treat next time! Long wooden tables with benches were available to sit in and they even had BOARD GAMES..yes BOARD GAMES to play!! How cool is that?!! Beer barrels were also set up as "tables". I've heard to can have parties there too and bring your own food, which is a clever idea for a birthday down the road. When ordering the beer, you can see the actual brewery where they brew the beer because its a clear window. When we stopped in they weren't giving tours. I was on a planned trip to Buffalo New York, Breweries were on the top of my list. I reached out to owner Tim Hezog, with a response from Vinny Somogyi, tasting room manager. My email went out before my trip, regarding the brewery and some personal ideas touring Buffalo. Vinny offered a wealth of ideas as well making sure to stop by. My list included delicious mom and pop eateries, breweries, and nature hikes, all of what I was looking for. This was the first time I made an opinion of Vinny. Contact information to Bison brewing came from Cindy at the Niagara Visitor Center. In the brewing industry there is a brother and sisterhood code, help one another. This does not always hold true, for the most part it does. Vinny offered a list of breweries to visit. I left Eugene with some beers from three local breweries. The hospitality of Vinny was like a home brewing event, talking about Bison's beers, styles of beers, events which we both shared stories. The lineup of Bison's beers, well done. I was treated to a Barley Wine to come out within the next week. I did not taste any youngness or yeasty flavor, pour me a gallon :). One of the beers I shared was a Ninkasi Pilsner. Wow that started up memories. Vinny was at a beer conference here in Oregon August 1989. Vinny took away a bottle of Ninkasi Slimerian Beer and has it in a pristine keepsake. This reminded me of my favorite brewery, Oakshire here in Eugene Oregon, I have a first bottle of Watershed IPA. a keepsake. Thank you Jeff for your stay true to your beers.Vinny shared stories of sharing hops and yeast to other breweries when needed, remember a brother and sisterhood. I came to support a fundraiser my coworker was supporting. Vinny, behind the bar, was provide excellent service. He explained each of the beer choice to so I can select the beers for my flight. I tried Paula's peanut stick porter, buffalo kolsch, farm to pint: IPA, double thundersnow ipa, and 2 kinds of scotch ales. My favorite is the Paula's peanut stick porter. So, Lee and I stopped by during the 1st annual Larkinville Ice Festival, of which Flying Bison was a participant. It was crowded, especially because of the cold temperatures outside, but the atmosphere was cheerful, and everyone was happy, I'm sure partially because of the amount of beer that was flowing. And boy was it! At the time of our visit, they were having $5 pints and $5 flights. I had a flight, and Lee decided to try the casked version of their Black IPA, after talking to one of the guys behind the bar what the difference was. Even though it was a madhouse in there, he took time to explain the difference, which was really nice. We got to compare the difference between the standard version and the casked, since I had it in my flight. People have complained about the starkness of the ambiance. I dunno. When I go to visit a brewery itself, I am not necessarily looking for the swankest digs. If I wanted swank digs, I'd head to a comfy bar. The feel of the tasting room is pretty spare and stark, but it was fine with me. They have put some care into their bathrooms though, which I do appreciate -- they're spacious and clean and modern. The other thing I appreciated is although they have a little menu of some foods you can order, they also have free bags of chips on the counter to nosh on, and as a side effect, I found a new flavor of potato chips to love: Cape Cod sweet and spicy. But really, the star here is the beer, and their beer is excellent. read more

Flying bison has a few hit brews to suit my taste buds but not to the point that they give me the WOW factor! I like the tasting room for sure and love that a flight of 4 only costs $5.00 which is an extremely fair price in my opinion and I love the fact their not price gouging these as well! Huge plus! There's plenty of room inside here as well and their hearts in the right place to make this a popular hit! I really just need some more fall in love tasty unique style beers to make me a true fan! I recently came to Flying Bison Brewery for a trivia event supporting the local animal rescue Diamonds in the Ruff. I love that Flying Bison agrees to host events which support local non-profits. That right there will make me come back regularly! I think this brewery has a nice feel to it. Large tables to sit at if you come with many people. Indoor and outdoor seating. Large bar area where you can order drinks and food. My group ordered a few appetizer type snacks which were all good. I believe they have trivia regularly on Friday nights. Unfortunately I was not a fan of their trivia. I was with a group of 7 people who ranged from 27-32 years old and the majority of the questions were targeted to an older age range. Entertainment type questions seemed to be all centered around the 60s, 70s, & 80s. This would have been alright if there were more recent songs, movie quotes, and TV series mentioned as well but there were not. My group has been to many other trivia events at various places and felt this one was pretty disappointing. Overall I would return to The Flying Bison, just not for trivia. read more

I love my Flying Bison beer not sure why it took me so long to get to the new space. Maybe I was afraid it would be different the were my first brewery experience after all. This visit was for a cask event so it wasn't open to the public. Walked in and it felt welcoming. I love the high serving area, there is ample seating picnic style benches, tons of board games, nice patio section. The whole flow of the place just worked! Awesome to see what these pioneer have done. I definitely need to go back to see the regular action and get a growler fill. read more

I love this brewery. These guys are a subsidiary of F. X. Matt Brewing Company which are best know for their Saranac line of products. My first craft beer I ever had was Flying Bison's Rusty Chain. One of the things I like about this brewery is that they sponsor many races. They even make a special beer called mile 27 which is an exclusive for the Buffalo marathon. I have to admit I was pretty spent by mile 23 and the thought of having that beer helped me push through those last 3 miles. Their only open 3 days a week. They do at least one tour each day that thier open. I took the tour once and found it fun and informative. Bottom line is this place gets 5 stars from me since they have great beer, I would go there again and again and highly recommend to friends. read more

I had been to Flying Bison back when they were socked away in the old Warehouse, so coming here is a massive, massive upgrade for them. The new space is amazing and I love the glass wall that lets you look into the brewery. Last time we were here we took the brewery tour, which was absolutely fascinating and we learned a lot from it, the time before that we came for a trivia night, and the time before that we came in just because we were on a brewery tour. My boyfriend and I's last stop on the tour of Buffalo Breweries. We came close to closing so it wasn't too lively but the beer made up for lack of energy. The atmosphere was open and inviting and there were plenty of board games around to pass the time. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Parking was easy and plentiful. Don't be blinded by other local "hip" breweries and their Helvetica fonts and overly hopped fad beers. Flying Bison is not like that. Not only are they are the first brewery in Buffalo of this generation, their beer is VERY TRUE TO STYLE.
