A great thrift shop with tons of amazing finds. I never leave empty handed. As someone who has sold and bought clothes and shoes here. I couldn't recommend it enough. I love their shoe selection ranging from used dunks to almost new doc martens! Very reasonably priced and organized store. I recommend coming in the early morning during the week or you can expect lots of traffic and less parking later in the day or on weekends. After calling to enquire about an appointment to sell, a recording told me you no longer need an appointment, only a government issued ID. My daughter wanted to sell her items, drove herself there and waited in line for nearly an hour. After being asked for her driver's license they said they would not take her because she is under 18. At no point does it say 18+ to sell, only physical government issued ID. I offered to meet her there, but was told would have to wait in line again. Absolute waste of time. read more

Hello Yelp, I visited this place a few days ago and wanted to give my opinion of it. After seeing some negative reviews, I was a bit discouraged, but still decided to give this place a chance. I thought they might have improved. First of all, I drove 20 minutes to get there, so I definitely had to go out of my way. I was one of the first people standing in line. The 2 people in front of me didn't have that many clothes to sell, so I thought the wait time would be short and quick. After waiting for what felt like an eternity, it was my time to sell. As I was in line, I noticed that the buyers were extremely chatty, which was part of the reason why it took so long. This was very unprofessional of them, as we customers have things to do at home and lives to get back to. The buyer I talked to seemed very polite and explained their buying policy. I asked her if I could step outside, but apparently, I had to stay in store? Okay, I guess, I will just look around. Upon initial impression, it definitely wasn't the type of store I would shop at. I awkwardly paced around as I waited for her to finish looking at my clothes. When I got there, she told me she couldn't buy any clothes?? Apparently, I had good style but it just wasn't the type of things they would buy? I was so confused. I had looked on their website and brought in things they said they loved. Yet they took nothing. I was deceived by the store and the customer service. I came in thinking they would buy a lot, yet left with the same heavy bag I came in with. I am sad to say that this place was a scam. Wasn't expecting much after reading yelp reviews but I was interested in seeing for myself. Overall: not worth the time, energy, or frustration. The employees truly have no system for choosing items, I heard them help the 4 customers before me and each time they chose items arbitrarily based on their own personal style and passed up really good quality basics/universal pieces for nonsense reasons... for example: stripes were considered too strong of a pattern and they were strictly only accepting baggy pants? Idk about y'all but I know plenty of people who wear stripes and straight leg pants. Not to mention they told me my options were to carry my giant tote bag of clothes around the store or take it back to my car, while there were two empty chairs behind me they could've offered for me to just sit and wait? I ended up just asking if that was fine because I had no interest in carrying a giant tote bag of clothes around the tiny store or going all the way back to my car... as someone who used to work customer service it was kinda baffling they didn't even think to offer that option to me or anyone else. So I've been on the thrift shopping spree lately and after going to many stores, I've gotten to buffalo. Nice store with a decent amount to always browse through. As now I've learned I can take some clothes and hope to sell there as well. The only downside is part for me is when I've brought my belongings, they gave me the rundown on the rules and I accepted. Though each time I've went they just told me none of my stuff is what they are looking for. Now the stuff I have brought has been close to new. Nothing was out of bounds from there rules or what they were looking for. I keep getting bummed when they can't seem to find anything. I've scored a few finds myself but can never get on letting my stuff be taken. So just keep in mind, they seem pretty strict on what they are looking for. They gave lots of tips and tricks on what items they always take and I ended up making pretty decent money for the items that had been sitting in my closet for months! Mixed reviews here! The first salesperson who greeted us was extremely rude. We had over 30 bags of high end, top brand clothes. Because we had over the amount, we booked two appointment which would allow them the proper amount of time needed to go through them. She told us we need to come back another time because we weren't allowed to have two appointment. They then proceeded to go through the clothes in a rude manner. The store is dirty and smelly and I highly do not recommend it due to the experience. The Manager was more friendly then the others. Consider donating to homeless for a better reward! Honestly I came here because I read reviews saying they'd give better pricing than 2nd street. Was skeptical, so I called beforehand and asked if they buy luxury and designer items. They said yes. Upon arrival they didn't take a look at any designer items and said they can't authenticate them, that they have no way of doing so. The first worker was so kind and helpful also with other items but as soon as the supervisor or manager took over an immediate energy shift was felt. Management please read this- I usually love coming to this location, unfortunately I had a bad experience on 3/28/23 around 11 AM. I came in to sell some of my clothes, It was pretty busy and I was told it was going to be about a 30-35 minute wait and that I had to wait outside, I had no problem waiting. After 45 minutes of sitting outside I noticed that the waiting seats inside were empty, I went in and kindly asked to young brunette woman if she knew how much longer the wait would be. She immediately gave me attitude and said they can't give time estimates and that if I was in a rush to leave. I told her I wasn't in a rush and if she knew how many people were ahead of me, she didn't give me an answer. I had to ask if I still had to wait outside and she said I could sit inside. After waiting a total of 1 hr and 20 min she said I can help whoever's next, I assumed that was me. I told her I was going to use the restroom and be right back. After 2 minutes I came back and she apparently went through all 3 of my full bags and in a condescending tone said i didn't have what they were looking for. It's upsetting bc this place has so much potential and most of the workers are helpful but this lady really ruined the experience for me, even the person waiting next to me told me how much attitude that same lady gave her last time she was there:/ I work in customer service and understand it's not easy, however being rude to someone being completely respectful and understanding is not okay. LONG STORY SHORT: do NOT get your hopes up and waste your time waiting to sell, just go when they are not busy. I wasn't a fan of thrift shopping until I came to Buffalo Exchange! First off, you get this really neat $5 off coupon when you spend $20 as a check-in offer. Sooo if saving money wasn't enough for you with these low prices, then THAT should give you more of a reason to step inside this store. Second, I really love the decor of the place. Quite honestly, I had no idea it was even a thrift store until my best friend told me it was. It felt like I was shopping at an indie retail store with different styles and pieces. One of my favorite racks is the Coachella rack! They really have a rack dedicated to crazy, funky, and Coachella-inspired pieces that will certainly add the wow factor to your outfits! I also love that they have cute little knick-knacks like pool floaties (notable mentions include the avocado, pizza, and unicorn) as well as sunglasses, pins, and other accessories you didn't know you needed until you saw them! Overall, would highly recommend coming here. They have great customer service and truly wonderful articles of clothing. I ended up leaving with a purple Hawaiian print button-down and a pineapple monogram on a denim button down for a lovely total of $18! I just am going to take a minute to say how thoroughly impressed I am with the staff at the Costa Mesa Buffalo exchange. I interacted with 4 staff members two were buyers I believe and 2 were managers. I came in to sell. The buyer I worked with immediately greeted me and maintained pleasant banter throughout the time I was selling. She was enthusiastic and just went above and beyond to make this selling experience so positive for me. I also want to say both managers oversaw the process and double checked the items to insure they were able to sell at their store. She explained to me why she could and could not take certain items. She also had such a pleasant attitude and also made sure that this was a positive experience. Costa Mesa's location has repeatedly shown unprofessionalism and lack of customer service. The mission statement writes that they are looking for "on-the-spot for current trends, designer, everyday styles, vintage and one-of-a-kind fashion finds." Although, during the sell-to-buying process, the workers are incredibly rude and young immature woman who will communicate by yelling in your face, waving their hands in your face, and rolling & squinting their eyes in your face when you ask a simple question. I asked about one single item out of 2 large bags that I brought in that they did not take, because I know that they are currently "on trend" and in good condition jeans. Additionally, a very similar pair of jeans was displayed in the window on their mannequin that I had noticed. Instead of kindly answering me with a simple response, the worker (brunette female) became extremely defensive off the bat and gave me a list of reasons why they don't accept clothes - which was not my question. After that, a second worker (blonde female) came over to assist her and once again I experienced bad sales customer service because she asked me, randomly, if I wanted them to tell me why every single item in the 2 bags of mine were not selected and I said no, no - because I understand the process and this is not my first time selling with Buffalo Exchange. It seems the workers are untrained in customer service and in professionalism especially if there is ever a conflict. After this, they pulled out the one and only item I brought in with a small hole and they decided to point that item out and rudely remind me that "a lot of your clothes have holes." I said no, I only brought that one old T-shirt with a hole so please don't refer to one item out of the two bags (again). This led to the first worker rolling and squinting her eyes at me and I asked the second worker to notice the customer service happening right in that moment. Instead of apologizing for the customer service, her response was childish and again unprofessional referring to energy and looks happening. I am much older than these young and very inexperienced workers, able to see a petty move on their part due to much shown immaturity. The Buffalo Exchange website reads, "We built our business on a lot of principles..such as respecting people and treating everybody fairly and listening to people. Those are our tenets in business." The owners should know the Costa Mesa location workers are not aligned with these principles towards their customers what so ever. Let alone a third worker was standing next to them as these encounters happened and did nothing to step in. Instead, one of the workers (blonde female) yelled in my face, waved her hands shaking them no in my face, and saying, "no we are not doing this" and stopped going through my clothes - when I was letting her know this is terrible customer service and I wanted my clothes back regardless. Overall, any clothes they kept from my first bag were NOT compensated for. They kept some of my items without paying me. Granite this is probably a minimum wage job, these workers should still have bare minimum respect or show kindness to customers, and follow their policies by closing out the transaction. Managers need to be aware of the highly inappropriate communications happening and hire more mature and professional people. The website also writes, "After all, they relied on their customers to bring in clothing and they relied on their employees to build a diverse inventory." This is absolutely not true and seeks fit for a BBB file of complaint. read more

My experience here was quite unpleasant. I was working with two females: one fairly new to the process (female A), and the other seemed to have been in leadership or a veteran of the store (female B). I say this since female A asked the opinion of a separate employee as well as the opinion of female B on two separate instances. Female A was quite pleasant and helpful while female B was not only condescending to female A when she asked female B's opinion, but also was rude when I offered a suggestion of how the clothing, not purchased by the store, should be returned to the seller. My clothing, a short stack, was brought in nicely folded, but was returned in a half folded & rolled approached and then tossed into a bag. Mind you, I carried this sort stack in without a bag but walked out with a bag essentially twice the size because of the lack of care when female B simply rolled up the clothes. Female B stated that she'd consider my suggestion shortly before I walked out. Unfortunately I don't think this is truly going to be considered by the tone of her voice and her snarky remark of "not hearing this feedback from previous customers."
