Popped into this Madewell for an in-store pick-up and had a solid overall customer service experience! The shoe size I thought I needed ended up being way to big, they didn't have the size I thought I needed, but the employee brought out the closest they had and it ended up being the perfect fit. I was in and out of there quickly and she honored the online sale price that was listed for the shoe (it was a great price). The store is well-organized and neat on the second floor. There was an event for a jewelry pop-up. If you subscribe to Madewell's newsletter it'll send you invites for future events. Big selection here even in the clearance section at the back of the store. I like coming in so I can try on shoes in-person before committing to a size. Wide-feet problems... The fitting rooms are spacious and well-lit. Good area to see if an outfit bangs or not. Not a long wait luckily. The employee nearby got me into a room quick. There's also a sitting area for resting if needed in the middle of the store. 50/50 employees were masked and unmasked. The cashier was friendly as I checked out. My daughter is a young teacher and they give you a 15% discount to teachers as long as you show proof. She's purchased many outfits and all the outfits she always gets a nice complement on them. I was on a shopping trip at South Coast Plaza and happened upon the Madewell store. The clothes looked interesting so I walked inside. My plan was to check a few stores to compare what choices they had in Denim jeans. Their Men's department has a lot of choices. I was immediately greeted by a perky sales person named Lizzy. Lizzy asked if she could help me find something and I told her that I was kind of looking for a pair of jeans that weren't baggy. There were at least 5 different fits and the descriptions of the fits on the sign only made it more confusing. I was going to try the Slim Fit, but Lizzy told me the Relaxed Taper fit had slimmer legs than the Slim Fit. They didn't have my size in the wash I wanted so Lizzy had me try on a pair in a different color while she searched the store for my size. I tried on the recommended jeans and they fit perfectly! I was so tempted to say I would think about it and look at what other stores had, but Lizzy's level of customer service was so high I really didn't want to shop anywhere else. On the way to the register Lizzy told me that I would get 25% off all purchases if I joined the Insider's Club. It was Free to join and Lizzy opened a membership for me in less than 2 minutes. I saved $32.00 on my first purchase and I look forward to returning to the South Coast Plaza store the next time I need some nice fashionable clothes. Lizzy made the entire experience so much fun. My review isn't about the service, the associates who were there that day were actually super helpful and had the warmest disposition. Its more about the overall look and maintenance of the store. Walking through South Coast is an experience, so much to see and explore. Part of the allure is how each store and brand's personality spills out onto the decor and vibe the moment you walk in. Now I know Madewell isn't on par with stores like Saint Laurent or Miu Miu BUT you're still a store in an upscale shopping center so i would hope that the internal standard for basic things like keeping the store CLEAN would be a priority. I was really surprised to see how filthy this store was. The floors looked like they've never been swept/mopped. There were so many dust bunnies throughout that when i accidentally dropped a beanie i was buying, It got covered in dust debris that i had to stand for a few minutes picking it out of the fabric. There was actual trash on the floor like straw wrappers and even an old cup on the floor. It felt like you were walking into a forever 21. I usually frequent Madewell Mission Viejo, but recently I have had to go to Madewell South Coast Plaza because of work and not having enough time to make it to MV before it closes. I absolutely despise going to this location. On the day I was placing my order, I spoke to the woman who helped me at the register, her name was Victoria. I asked her to please order me the pair of Vans shoes in a size 7.5 in womens since they were out of stock at that location. I even reminded her that it's a size 6 in men's because I'm aware of the issue of ordering Vans at Madewell. She said, "I know." So I let it go. When I receive my Madewell packages, which I have been waiting for and so excited to wear, and they are size 9 in women's which is 7.5 in men's. Exactly what I had asked her to check. Now I have to go to back to Madewell to fix this issue. This is really annoying and inconvenient, especially because I specifically told her that it's a size 6 in men's and she acknowledged what I said, yet I still got the wrong size. Mistakes are common and expected in life. We are all human, but this is not the first time I have had an issue at South Coast. Previously, on a different day and a different pair of shoes, when I asked them for help locating a specific size/shoe, she told me she was too busy and to look for it myself. That the shoes are located under the clothes, not even pointing to a specific location in the store. Now, normally I would be more understanding, but there's employees at the register who are not doing anything (4 employees when there are only two registers available) and this employee asked me to look for my own shoe. Madewell has their shoe boxes spread out throughout the store. It's not even on a shelf. She wants me to crawl around the floor in the store to read the small print and distinguish the similar boxes/drawings from each box. I don't believe I'm being difficult. I have no issue looking for my own size/shoe box in other stores that have their shoes organized and are meant for customers to rummage around, but I don't believe Madewell is that type of store. I don't remember this employees name, but I will never forget this incident Another issue would be South Coast's lack of customer service. They do not smile, they do not greet you, they do not offer help. They almost look mad that they have to help you. I sat there and was given a list of phone numbers to call several other Madewell stores around the country (Washington, Seattle, New York, California, Utah, etc.) to locate one that has a leather jacket in my size. I sat there on my phone for over an hour calling stores until I found one because they, "did not have all the time in the world to call all the stores for me". I would have appreciated some effort. This location also seems less informed about the products you carry. They are also quick to say they don't carry something and often don't even offer to order or offer any further help. But please don't let this location stop you from shopping at Madewell because they really do have an amazing clothing line. Everything I own is practically from Madewell. I highly recommend going to the Mission Viejo location for all your Madewell needs. read more

Let me start by saying that I walked into this store unplanned... with that said, I started looking at the jeans and realized that all of them are high waisted! I was not having it. Hannah talked me into trying some on, the 10" skinny. And OMG... my life changed, right there in the fitting room, I was stoked! She told me about the recycling program so I was even more stoked at that point! I ended up buying three pairs of jeans that day, and I came back a few days later with my receipt and my recycle jeans. Smooth sailing from there. So here's the best part, one of the girls at work saw me in my jeans and was complimenting the fit. Like me, she was not interested in wearing anything high waisted but I encouraged her to go to Madewell and guess what?! She bought two pairs!! I love Madewell clothing, but the staff at this store is not very nice. I've been to this location several times, and have always walked out feeling like the sales associates didn't want me in there, and yesterday was no different. I was making a return from an online order and the girl who was helping me seemed so annoyed during our whole interaction, even though I felt an icy vibe from her and tried to defrost it by complimenting her sweater. I got not warmth back from her. She was just super flat and acted so put out by my return. I absolutely looooove Madewell! I'm so happy this one opened up inside South Coast Plaza although it's quite of a drive for me! They are the sister store of J.Crew and the clothes are more fit for a younger girl in her 20's. The clothes are a little bit pricey but the quality is splendid! They are called "Madewell" after all, and their items stay true to their name. I love their thin, comfy v-neck tees and their cute skirts and earthy jewelry and sheer cardigans and scarves and really just everything in the store! The service I experienced here was also fantastic! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. And they were so personable too! A+++ on the service here, seriously. I will definitely make a visit to this store every time I'm at SCP. read more

Clothing A+ , Service C- Service needs improvement. I shop during slow hours to avoid the weekend crowd and hopefully get better service.... BUT every time I come in I am never greeted despite there being girls at the register and in the first room. And as I shop I am never asked if I need help or if I need to start a fitting room which is odd because the store is never understaffed when i'm there, there is always several girls working. The general manager of this location needs to remind them what customer service is, its getting to every customer and meeting their needs with a good attitude. I'm ALL ABOUT this groovy jazz!!! I'm going through a phase, I guess. Casual + hipster + preppy + indie vibe. It's all too cool. Everything at this store is all that I'll ever need...for now at least. The prices are decent...slightly cheaper than J.Crew (the sister store) and not as serious. Definitely a much more playful vibe. And what I absolutely love is that I can mix and match everything. Mix the chambray with skirts with flats with sweaters with cardigans with tshirts with shorts with dresses with EVERYTHING. I have so many of their oxfords, I've lost count. And I'm the biggest fan of their boyfriend jeans...but ironically, my boyfriend absolutely hates them. lol. I just recently went to this store and it was one of the most pleasant retail experiences I've ever had! The employees there were all extremely courteous, helpful, friendly and sincere. As my first time coming here without my wife (I was getting a gift), I felt a bit lost since I don't shop here ever (it's an all-women's store). The employees were quick to direct me to the right areas and also ask if I needed any help. This is such a stark contrast to most retail stores I've been to, so I just had to share this feedback and even let the manager Rachel know of how great her team is. I don't why I keep giving this location a try. I love their clothing, but this store has downright hostile and microaggression-y workers. I went in today with my white husband and father in law & was greeted quite sincerely and cheerfully. But as soon as the men in the family stepped out, I was alternately ignored & scrutinized, and then was rudely nearly body checked by an employee (short wavy brown hair maybe 5'2) without a single apology. For context, I am a brown woman and something like this happens nearly every time I visit this location (when it's nearly empty so you can't even give them the benefit of the doubt about it being mistreatment or a rush to service everyone). I won't be shopping here any more. Six visits in one year have all but confirmed this for me. Please re-hire or re-train your employees. This is a really nasty business practice towards POC. read more

I recently came to this location to browse and see if anything caught my eye. I have always been drawn to the style of this brand but tbh its SPENDY. However, I wanted to treat myself. I was browsing and asked an associate for help. I let her know I'd never bought jeans from madewell before. Vita was so helpful in answering all my questions and encouraged me to try on several sizes and styles. She checked on me several times while I was in the fitting room and even swapped out sizes and styles for me to make sure I found a pair of jeans I loved. The shop was really busy but Vita did a fantastic job at making sure each customer (myself included) was being helped. The cashier (didn't catch her name) was also so helpful and friendly. The customer service here is great. And the fit of the jeans is even better. I've never shelled out more than $30 for a pair of jeans but I'm a forever fan of madewell now. They offer $20 off a pair of jeans if you bring in an old pair of jeans you no longer wear. The quality of the clothing is great as well. I'll definitely be back! read more

Madewell is becoming the new Anthropologie, overpriced/oversized garbage. Went in looking for pants and they had the same stock from the last time I visited, which was around Christmas. All of the dressing rooms were closed because of Covid which doesn't really make sense because it doesn't make a difference? Maybe it's because of a staff shortage because there was no customer service. The girl in front of me in the dressing room line just walked into a room and had her boyfriend help fetch her clothes. Then when the employee came back, she almost opened the curtain on her. Another girl couldn't even get the same employee's attention for help. I didn't get any help with anything either. This is the sister store of Jcrew. The styles are similar to Jcrew, but it's targeted towards a younger demographic; you can really tell. You can also tell that this place has a much more relaxing feel to it than a Jcrew store. I still love both nevertheless. The clothes here will definitely last you a long time, as they are quality clothing. You can't go wrong with their basics, such as a simple white tee. This will for sure last you. With that being said, I love this store, but since i am on a college budget, the prices are somewhat steep for me. They'll sometimes have an additional 40% off sale, so keep an eye out for that! College student? Bring your ID so you can get 15% off. I know, a discount is a discount, but I feel that even with 15% off, my wallet is already begging for mercy. read more

Beautiful store and styles, albeit not my taste, I appreciate a well-designed clothing line and brand. This review is mainly for the location. The girls are always very nice and helpful. The manager on duty though went above and beyond for me when I had a gift card issue (my silly friend lost it) and she was able to get me a new one to give her all very efficiently despite it being a busy Saturday. She also still remained her composure when she had bratty women not able to understand the concepts of returning discounted items and how the discount is then voided when something is not on promotion anymore. I don't know why I didn't shop here before. Being that it is the sister store to J.Crew, I knew that I would fall in love with the place. I've always been intimidated to walk in (don't ask me why) but when I did I was greeted with warm smiles! The employees are absolutely amazing and I couldn't have felt more than home there. The quality is amazing and the dressing rooms are clean. CLEAN (unlike the J.Crew store). It is pricier but you are paying for amazing quality clothing and accessories. I was sooo happy when I heard Madewell was coming to OC! I live in SF but seeing as we've yet to score a store of our own, I'm willing to settle for one near my parents' house. It's probably good news for my wallet too, considering I can't seem to walk out of here without snagging at least four things. Madewell is basically J.Crew with a shaggy haircut and a downtown 'tude. She's a little quirky but knows when to stick to the classics. I came into this location less than a week after it opened and was so impressed - the way they style the store is so inspiring and makes you want to try on things you might have glossed over on their web site. The sales girls were so helpful and genuinely excited about the clothes which made the experience even more fun. I walked out with a green dress, two tees and a cardigan for under $200 - and plenty of things were marked down already- sweet! I'm considering planning my next trip home around one of their sales - they're that good. I'm only half kidding. read more
