Selling Experience There's always a wait. They take appointments Fri-Sun but I've always found I have to wait regardless. It can also be frustrating to see 3-4 employees working behind the buying table (folding, sorting clothes, etc) but not taking customers that are waiting to sell. Buffalo is interesting because they price your clothes right in front of you which can feel harsh. They give 25% of the selling price in cash or 50% in store credit. The store credit offer is definitely the way to go, they give you a little gift card/trade-in card so you don't have to look to buy the same day if you don't want to. Buying Experience It's a hit and miss, like any thrift experience. I've found some great items but also had to dig through a lot of cheaper pieces. It looks like they're buying surplus low-quality fabric items and selling them "new with tags on". The price range for dresses is around $15-30. Overall, I go to Buffalo Exchange once or twice a year to look to sell/buy when I'm cleaning out my closet. Go in with low expectations and come out with maybe a treasure! read more

Came here a bunch the past few years but my last experience left a bad taste in my mouth. There's usually a few gems here but you have to commit to a ton of time perusing to find one item worth even trying on. I went to sell my clothing and was not given any direction on where to sit or put my things until finally someone else waiting let me know. After waiting a while I had to leave without them even going through my things since it's a first come first serve basis, so asked to leave it here while I got my car and they did not let me. This time around I prepped hard for them. I made sure to include only in season items. Shirts, shorts, hats, sun glasses and shoes for summer. I rewashed everything and ironed and folded everything as neatly as possible. And brought them in 2 small bags. They took stuff. A lot of stuff. But not everything. Passing this place today I saw a tie-dye long sleeve shirt in there. Since I'm on a roll with tie dye why not buy another one! if I could give one star I would but I recently went here a couple weeks on a vacation I took my daughter on for her 3rd bday. I was excited as she loves thrifting at such a young age and socializing, the females in there were very rude and acted disgusting towards myself and my daughter. A THREE YEAR OLD!! Walking in not one greeting which okay I can look past as they get busy, but what set it off was the whispering towards us and having an employee follow us all thru the store like if we were going to shoplift or create a scene and when my daughter noticed it was so embarrassing to explain they just wanted to watch us to make sure we weren't stealing. Then as we went to the cashier to pay the young lady didn't make eye contact which again is fine as I figured she may be shy so I continued to be respectful and even ask her how she was, no answer. Then my daughter put some sunglasses on the desk to purchase and she said "Hi my names M****, what's your name?" my baby didn't get an answer but I figured maybe she just didn't hear her or is focused on working, my daughter repeated herself and smiled and waved hi to the young lady, I then nicely said "oh shes saying hi to you." and the girl just nodded rolled her eyes and still didn't make eye contact! my baby then asked "mommy am I being bad why is she mad at me?" Been going to this location for years now, since my college days. There is always some good finds here and I never leave empty handed. The reselling/trade process has always been easy for me (except for the parking situation!) I recently came in yesterday (Wednesday around 12pm) to trade and it was one of my best experiences! There was a small line but it went by pretty fast. They look through your items in front of you and let you know which pieces they will be keeping. They took a few of my pieces and I came out with a $81.75 trade value. I used it to get 4 new cute items to add to my closet. Everyone there was super friendly and the best customer service I've had there. I haven't been here in awhile so it was great to have that awesome welcoming. I don't get the bad reviews about them being rude but if you don't have anything that's cute or worth keeping by them, don't take it personally! read more

The Buyer was a sour faced, black haired, Emo, tattooed, grumpy gal of very few words as well as an un-informed buyer. I had a ton of name brand, very well known brands including a pair of corduroy Empyres she passed on. She purchased the two Snoop dog tshirts but passed on Motley Crew 2002 tour and Hank Williams..... none of the surf brands including Billabong, Ripcurl and Quiksilver were given a glance. We only live in one of the most highly populated surfer areas in the US! The Carhardt shorts weren't given a single thought and half of the other name brand items weren't even unfolded before she put them in the reject pile. Madewell pants, Vans, Nike, RealTree..... nope, she didn't want those either. I told her I was surprised that she passed on all the name brand items and her response was that they don't buy based on name brands, their only consideration is style. Welp, you can't claim to care about being in style and not care about name brands. The stores lose ! people love name brands, especially at a discounted price. If you don't want my brand names that's your lose but you could at least smile and act like you are happy to be alive, it would have helped the situation. I might be old but I know that people like to buy name brands..... Hillcrest Buyers might want to think about that. People don't want Target and Walmart clothes, when consumers shop second hand they are looking for name brands at a thrift store prices..... definitely buy by name brand!! Seriously Buffalo Exchange, don't be foolish. The next day, to see what would happen, I decided to take my four bags of name brand garb to the PB location only to find that they purchased a ton of the same items that the Hillcrest Buyer past up ! Buyer said she is selling the Empyres for $30.00. Not surprised! Buyers I suggest you smile, be more friendly and especially, think about the brands people like and not just what you might wear! it will be more profitable for everyone involved. I dropped off some bags of clothes and was able to make a measly $30 ($100 in store value) after sacrificing some of my most beloved denim pieces. The clothing selection looked like a very diverse selection, everything was clean and seemed organized. They had a lot of cute stuff that I'll definitely come back for, albeit the prices are way too expensive to be considered a thrift store. Rude staff, and weird atmosphere. I asked if I could come back and they said yes but then got upset that I left the store. They have a texting update system that they don't use to let you know when they have checked your clothes. Also, it's inconvenient to get to due to parking. I spent more money in parking and they didn't select and of the clothes. Not worth your time or money. You are better off going to Plato's closet. Went into Buffalo Exchange with 3 big bags of clothes that I was looking forward to sell. It included some in-style shirts (what they were looking for), about 15 pairs of LuLaRoe patterned leggings, and some hoodies. All the clothes I brought were clean with no stains or rips. First of all, the store is stinky. It smells of farts and sweat. Had my items looked at and they gave back all 3 big bags and offered $10 for 2 pairs of brand new converse. Along with that, they stole all of the leggings and other items of clothing. We didn't notice the missing items until we got back to the parking lot. The employees are also rude. I went into the dressing room and they were giving me rude looks and didn't give me a stall while they let others in. I do not support this store or their values. Honestly tryin to sell your clothes here Period is a waste of time . I've came in with designer clothes gently used and in season and they still didn't take anything. Instead they rather take clothes that look raggedy with holes in it and call it "vintage" . Mind you , they only offer you incredibly Way Less For what you actually paid for the items. So if you come with with $40 they will offer you $5 but up sale your items for about the same or sometime more. IDC what anyone says my experiences here were horrible. We stopped at this shop to sell some of my daughter's cloths that she has worn once or twice but are in excellent condition. They had two girls working that I could see, one was buying items from customers and other was selling item to customers. The girl buying items had several people in line and this line was moving very slowly it took about 45 minutes before my daughter was helped. This shop his hit or miss when it comes to them buying your used items. Today it was a miss for my daughter. They didn't want her designer summer dresses, summer professional blazers and tees. We were both disappointed because the girl was not friendly, and she barely looked at the clothing it was as if she had made up her mind in advance that she wasn't going to purchase anything from us regardless of the items. The shop was full of merchandise: clothing, shoes, accessories and the prices were reasonable. Be prepared to look through racks of merchandise similar to a goodwill set up. read more

I brought 4 bags of good quality/in season clothing, shoes and accessories. I walked away with 13 dollars and 25 cents after a whole ordeal. I loaded 6 bags at home Arrived at the location and realized the only parking was paid and remote I carried two bags from the remote paid parking into the store I walked back to my car I carried two more bags from the remote paid parking into the store I decided not to go back for the last two bags I waited in que When it was my turn they looked at all the items in the first two bags They left the desk to fix a mistake for another customer Then basically ignored the second two bags when they got back (glanced over the items) They took two items in excellent condition that I paid ~100 bucks each (so 200 total) and offered me 13.25. selling experience has changed, now you need to make an appointment online/through phone with less than 50 items of clothing! reasonable terms because of covid, just prepare your bags in advance! :) selection (as of dec 2021): a lot of duplicates, which i assume is department store overstock and shein/nastygal. gives me f21 vibes when you see a cute shirt and it has like "i LOVE coffee and avocado" vibes. they are definitely leaning towards the levi's + fun prints. staff: super sweet and very helpful. they dress fashionably so i don't know why their selections don't reflect that. when i sold, another woman who was selling was hovering and incredibly offended when they didn't buy her clothes and took it out on the buyer. cost: on the more expensive side. i only go to buffalo exchange to sell my clothes. read more

Oh boy, this is strictly reviewing from a selling perspective. Walked in with a couple bags of folded clothing as well as a bag of shoes. The person who helped me took me over, took my ID and asked for phone number. All fine, then they proceeded to go through my clothes, I walked away to browse around while she went through the stuff. I saw her giving me side eye as she went through things, but I was always within earshot. She summoned me over and told me she was taking two items a very expensive Varvatos jacket and a pair of brand new shoes, that's fine, she said she would give me $45 for both of them, no thank you. She got frustrated and said "that's why we need you to stay here while we go through your clothes", at no point did she say "stay here while I go through the clothes", I said , "you never told me, and this is first time I have sold here" and her response was "that was implied". Whenever I travel, I always make it a point to go to at least one consignment shop. On this trip to San Diego, we visited Buffalo Exchange. Buffalo Exchange has multiple locations where you can trade cash/credit for your gently worn or new clothing. On this trip, my fiancé BANKED on two official soccer jerseys - a USA team jersey and a Barcelona jersey. These jerseys retail for ~$100 each brand new. We bought these at a fantastic deal of $20 each. As we were walking out, a couple people stopped us and asked us where we found the jerseys, and they scrambled to the racks to find some for themselves. Stop by to find some hidden gems! read more

Cute shop, love the theme they have here. I had stopped in to sale clothes with an appointment before hand, I was one hour early than I had originally scheduled myself to be here. With that being said I was recommended to browse around that they were other appt before me , I found some items that caught my attention but I came more with the purpose to sale than to shop. Finally 5pm hit and I was on the counter she stated the pricing and I was a bit confuse , I had taken about 25pcs? and only 3 items were chosen was told all 3 would be a value of $45 total the store and I was offered $22 store credit I ended up taking the store credit and grabbing a piece I had spotted. It would have been nice to know before hand that they were only interested in specific seasonal style clothing's instead of the customer showing up with everything. Mixed feelings about this store.. I'm mostly talking about the selling part. I've come here a few times, my first time was a major success and I walked away with $40. The past 2 times have been a bit of a let down. I'm saying this because I have noticed how the "buyers" give preference to regulars and hardly look at the clothes other people bring in. For instance, their sign says they are in need of tanks and summer dresses.. yet some chatty customer is selling her winter jackets and vest with success. There is definitely strong bias on behalf of the buyers and all the accepted items aren't always quality. The line to consign your clothes is ridiculous. I arrived at 10am (opening time) and there were already 3 people ahead of me.. with 6-8 bags of stuff. One lady, who is a regular I presume, had been waiting in her car. Another customer accused this lady of cutting her in line when an employee said "no she usually gets here early and waits in her car" and then proceeded to have a conversation in Spanish about the parking. Since when does waiting in your car justify you a spot in line? Ridiculous. This store is not really my style. I have browsed around but never bought anything. To be honest, I have seen people with excellent clothing get denied here and then go on to good will. I too do the same thing. And guess what? Because of buffalo exchanges inconsistent buying patterns.. the good will in Hillcrest gets all the best clothing. For example, today they got a bunch of j crew, Hudson jeans, and free people clothing .. from me! Do yourself a favor and check out good will instead. This used to be a cool place to sell & find vintage gear around 2016-2018 but unfortunately is not the case these days. They basically offered me nothing the last time I went in with nice street wear brands & cool vintage tees, so be aware of getting ripped off or dont expect much if you sell. The sales floor is also filled with stuff you can find at walmart or tillys for the same price if not higher lol. Customer service is a bunch of hipsters with big egos. Buffalo Exchange is a great place if you want to kill 20 minutes looking outrageously hilarious clothing. I personally would never buy used clothing in fear of bugs living in the fabric, strange odors, and the possibility of the previous owner being deceased and their spirit haunting the new owner. This shop has pretty much every type of clothing you can think of. They have jeans for all shapes and sizes. Their cowboy boot collection is stellar. There's always some gem of a tee shirt to be found in the dozens of racks. One time I saw an amazing Tina Turner shirt here. Their sunglasses looks like they were taken directly from Elton John's private collection. It's definitely a good shop to piece together a Halloween costume. Another cool thing is that you can sell your own clothes here. The negative about this whole process is that their judging is very subjective and their buyers are kind of insulting when going through your clothes. When they do find something they want to buy from you, you have the privilege of getting offered about 5% of the money you actually paid for it. You should save your self the humility and just donate to Goodwill. read more

I don´t understand how is the clothing selection system they use when you want to sell. I have been numerous times with high quality 80s clothes from Spain, in mint condition, and they only bought from me plain stuff very Forever21...seriously? I always see frustrated customers with huge trash bags leaving the door as they came: with the bag full...of their own unsold clothes. If you have that in mind and just want to shop, it is a decent place, always crowded, items rotate a lot, and you are going to find always something unique. I particularly like the shoes, many of the pullovers and shirts are too run down for me and I have other cheaper stores where to get similar stuff brand new. But shoes are usually cool, quality and good priced. Accessories section lacks creativity, lots of cheap looking necklaces (they look like just out from the $99 store, just sold more expensive, sorry). Also, I noticed that they have a new free magazine to take with you, and has some DIY ideas, plus the presentation and looks shown are very pretty. That is a nice touch always for the visual oriented that still like paper magazines (they always make nice envelopes). read more

Attention to detail. What is it exactly that this store is buying?! They say that they are buying for all seasons all year round, that clothes need to be clean (duh!) and that they check for style and wear. In my storage clean out I brought 3 vacuum sealed large bags of clothes most of which were for this season and most of which I bought in the past year, and 5 pairs of heels (3 pairs were only worn once and put back in the closet), a pair of sandals rarely worn, and a pair of brand new mens sneakers worn once or twice. My clothing collection was a mixed bag of vintage, new, and name brand clothing. Okay, so you don't want my avant-garde prom dresses. Okay so you don't want my rarely worn baseball tees. Okay so you don't want my never worn black work slacks. Okay so you don't want my LandsEnd Jackets. Okay so you don't want my department store skirts and pants. One of the worst experiences related to resale I have ever had, hands-down. Just as other reviewers have mentioned, I brought in large bags filled with excellent quality, brand-name, expensive gently used clothes, yet the person sifting through them took almost none of them. It is a huge waste of time to come here. With the time it took to schedule the appointment, find parking, and lug in all of my clothes, this was a huge waste of my time. My first time selling at this location. Brought in clothes before but they didn't take any. Today I just brought in a Tory Burch hand bag and some MK belts. Took the cash offer which is way less then the store credit but hey it's an easy hassle free sale. They took all 3 items walked away with $26 cash. The girl I worked with today was nice but the other times I have run into some not so friendly faces.
