My husband and I stayed the night in Buffalo on our way from OK to MA. Our original plans to the Anchor Bar fell through because they stop seating an hour and fifteen minutes before they close! Couldn't believe it. But thankfully that happened or else we never would've come to the Buffalo Tap House. This was THE BEST experience we could've asked for. Firstly, when we walked up, the man at the door was very friendly. He made us feel welcome, told us the name of the bartender, and shook our hands. We walked in, sat at the bar and met Deion, the bartender, and Ronnie, one of the workers. These two were both worth being there!! Fantastic human beings!! Secondly, the food and drink were AMAZING! We told Deion about our experience (or should I say our non-experience at the Anchor Bar) and Deion told us that that place is a tourist trap and if we wanted a local experience that we came to the right place. Soooo happy to hear him say that. So my husband and I ordered wings and OMGGGGGG! I have never truly had real Buffalo wings until our visit last night. As I was doing some review searching on Yelp, I came upon Chippewa Street and had to leave a review for this place. It's been about a year or so, but when I was in town last spring my brother and I took a trip to downtown Buffalo. I wanted to come down as I used to work down here back in the early nineties and it always holds some real special memories. Simpler times. Anyhow, as we strolled along on the lovely day, we weren't sure what establishment to go into for a couple of beers and we came upon this place. It wasn't even close to being busy as it was middle afternoon on a week day, but it was very nice. We were greeted by a very nice young lady and she chatted with us for a while and it was just a really enjoyable experience. I'm sure it's much different at night or happy hour times - as in much busier and probably a much younger crowd, but for two old guys this was just what the doctor ordered before we headed out to get some pizza. Living out of town now - I can honestly say this; Buffalonians have NO IDEA how good they have it with the almost limitless number of excellent pizza places to choose from, so I always have to have my fix when I'm in town. My friends and I stopped here after an event we attended next door earlier in the evening. It was nice and low key when we arrived for it being a Saturday night, and started getting more action around 11pm or so, which still wasn't too crazy for someone who's way past their party years. The girl bartender who initially greeted us took care of us for the most part, and provided us our drinks. It however was a bit difficult getting ahold of anyone as they were mostly tending to the opposite side of the bar so we went ignored for quite some time being that there was only a maximum of 8 people total at the bar (including us 3) during this time I speak of. I ordered a tequila sunrise with Jose which came to $8 and an order of single wings. I found the price of the drink a bit pricey for the size of it and it not being an upscale bar, but then again I don't get out much. My friends and I ordered chicken wings and I had to ask the price, which the one bartender then "guessed" (incorrectly), you know, instead of handing us an actual menu which I didn't know existed... would have been helpful. Then the guy bartender took the actual order and asked if I wanted charred bbq to which I then asked if there was an up charge.. he said yes $1 (to which I declined), but then I asked as he was placing the order if they are able to do all flat wings and he said "I can ask." Never came back to verify with me and then I just figured I would ask since I thought he put those in for my friend's order as well who prefers drums, if there was any extra cost to do "all flats." And he replied "yes $4 or $5" so I clearly was stunned at the amount and that he didn't bother to mention it seeing as how I asked the price of literally EVERYTHING else and didn't even know if it was possible to do, so why would I assume there is a charge for something he has to "ask" if they could do? So I then asked to remove that request not even a minute after giving him my order (mind you the fact I had to flag him down because they went on to the opposite side of the bar yet again)...He had the nerve to rudely reply to me like it was such an inconvenience when I wasn't even given an answer and proceeds to tell me that all places charge that much to do all one type of wing, and that I have to know this before giving him my order... well sir, you did not give me a solid answer and no I've never been charged anything more for any other places I've requested that at...so don't assume I was aware of the $5 insane up charge. Especially when I was not given a menu so I have no idea if it may have been stated on it. Not to mention I got 7 flat wings without the "all flats" request and my friend got 9 when she prefers drums. So it's not as if there was an even 5/5 wings of each kind to where it inconveniences them with other orders. I didn't like the hidden up charge because it is not something I've encountered especially without being told... if it was .50 or even $1 then whatever but $5 is a ripoff especially with the wings already costing me $17. Overall, aside from that little mishap, the wings were saucy, crispy and delicious, and it was nice to see somewhere still include the carrots and celery on the side. When leaving it would not have taken long to cash out our tab, as mine was quick and easy (even though I had asked to pay separate each time but they held onto my card and put it on a tab...idk), but my friend was given the bill and card for the girl next to her who had a completely different name and didn't close her tab yet (literally the reason why I don't open tabs). So then had to flag them down again. If that happened to someone drunk enough, I don't think they would have paid attention. I otherwise had a nice time and would go back again now that I know to ask for a menu and literally ask before I make any specific requests. The food here was very good. We ordered 2 orders of wings, mild & BBQ, and 2 baskets of waffle fries. The wings were cooked perfectly, crispy but juicy and sauces were delicious. Waffles fries came out perfectly crispy and soft on the inside. Could have used some salt but that's personal preference. Atmosphere was nice, it was busy but not crowded. Only downside to our visit was that they charged us over $30 for 12 wings. A bit pricey but would definitely recommend and will be back if in the area again. read more

Con: Parking is sucksville sometimes. Beer prices on local breweries are steep, you'd think they would be cheaper. They aren't always staffed up enough for the crowds. Went to this establishment for the first time last night. We decided to stop in for a few drinks and dinner before a show next door at RecRoom. The bar tender was very polite and attentive. He noted that all orders need to be placed at the bar for drinks and food - no problem at all. Some of the beers I tried to order weren't on tap yet, but that's just due to some issues with Untapped I believe (their in house drink menu was updated and accurate). The beer was cold, glasses clean and seemed to be fresh and clean taps! The food was great! I ordered wings (hot), my wife ordered a chicken finger salad and our friend ordered beef on weck. The wings were fantastic! Some of the best I've had for sure! My wife enjoyed her salad and our friend enjoyed her beef on weck. The rest room and establishment was clean overall! Twas a Friday night during the Christmas holiday season and Tap House Bar & Grill gave us every reason to want to go again: 1) HUGE happy hour banquet consisting of pizza logs, chicken wings and waffle fries. Oh yeah, not only did they keep refilling the steam tables when I chowed them down to bare wall, hooks and wire like the Grinch that stole Christmas, but they eventually brought out mozzarella sticks too. 2) They brought in a phenomenal live musician that played songs from George Michael to Bruno Mars to Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and all done in pleasing baritone, with an acoustic guitar and a handsome moustache (Keith Shuskie). Turns out, he was also on The Voice, so in other words, they provided celebrity entertainment! 3) They had full-sized elves working behind the bar, and no I don't mean the fake, Lord-Of-The-Rings pretend elves with their bows & arrows, and their long, stupid hair; I mean the REAL, North Pole types, but human sized. 4) Lastly, yes, they had two goats and a camel on the back patio. All of the above was provided free of charge (just like their WiFi), so Merry Christmas to all, and to all a fun night. read more

If they have under zero star I would love to give them. The waitress was suck when I went there. I got food from Jim steak out and eat at there and the waitress told me not to eat so I said ok I won't eat anymore my boyfriend is getting beer so can I wait him? However, all the sudden she call security for no reason, I did not insult to her or do nothing she said don't eat it so I stop but she call security for no reason using her power and call security to get the **** out from that place. So this place was close to the hotel. Didn't check yelp before we came...took a chance.... So staff very friendly and just great to talk to without being annoyingly up talking the area. They have 30 beers on tap...Very nice... Food....We came on a Monday which is seafood night. The guys I'm with had steamers....they said they were great and hot (figuratively and literally.) Also had the crab cakes. Reminded me of Maryland crab cakes as they were stuffed with crab meat...So good. Another person had the burger...huge and very good. And of course I had wings....not anchor bar. .but still awesomely tasty. Great meal...Great atmosphere...Great staff. This is a hidden gem that can easily missed when walking down Chippewa st. First off this bar has a great beer selection on tap, but the bartender was sassy and incompetent. First off she got our tab mixed up with another larger group, charged us 4$ for water, and got our order of wings wrong on the tab. I would say the bar service is jut plain bad. We asked the waiter to correct our order the second time she messed it up, going up to her and saying "sorry hope we're not being a bother again" and she rudely retorted back that "well you kind of are". On the upside the kitchen staff was super nice and corrected our order promptly and the bouncer was super nice. If you need water a good tip is to just fill up a cup in the washroom because you will not get service at the bar. read more

It's kind of a little hole in the wall, and not what you'd expect on Chippewa. But there's a great outdoor space in the back that's perfect for summer happy hours. There's plenty of beer on tap - local, micro, and standards - plus a full bar and plenty of bottles. The happy hour specials are decent. And they have special days for trivia, seafood, etc. The bartenders (including the owner) are friendly and prompt. Food wise, I've only ever had the chicken fingers and they were on the good side of OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to have them, but they're a decent snack after a few beers. read more

A solid bar that may actually convince me to explore Chippewa again. Despite living down the street, I've been told that I'm going to need a college ID to merge into the crowd on this street. Between great drink specials, solid music, and staff that were on point, I'm willing to make the exception. My friends and I were on a spontaneous bar crawl which lead us to this tempting spot. When I say tempting, I mean one of the best happy hours in the area- Draft beer: $1.75 Bottle beer: $2.25 Well drinks: $2.25 Pitchers: $5.75. While sitting around for a bit, we did what anyone who's been drinking for three hours would do. Ask where the bathroom is after requesting a menu. Food was also pretty cheap for a bar- 10 dollar burgers and 17 bucks for a double of wings. I must have salivating over the wings portion because our bartender confirmed that they are as good as they sound. We took his advice and did the house dry rub. Once they arrived, they were a sight to behold. They absolutely hit the spot, but weren't necessarily amazing. They were advertising to be massive and spicy, but they were average sized and not as spicy as I hoped for. I knew it wasn't just my high standards when my Wisconsin hailing friend who sweats over Taco Bell salsa said they weren't spicy enough. Booze review only. Chippewa is not my favorite area of Buffalo. I'm much more comfortable in the laid-back bars of Allentown than in the often-douchey clubs filled with minors a half mile south. In the desert of neon and sugar-saturated drinks, Tap House is an oasis. Its decor and long, intimate bar make it stand out from its neighbors. They have a decent draft list and tons of seating. It's one of the only bars in the area that you can almost always grab a seat, even when the place is stuffed full. Ah, "stuffed full", therein lies the rub. For on that street of death what space may come? This place gets obnoxiously crowded on weekends. And, with only one tiny bathroom for each gender, holding your pee is basically an Olympic sport. But the bartenders are excellent, prices are fair, and the patrons are typically awesome. I'll be back, although I might try to convince my party to stay in Allentown first. read more

This bar nestled right in the middle of the Chippewa Strip is easily overlooked amongst the likes of flashy neighboring establishments like The Lodge and Soho Burger Bar. This place is a great dive bar if you're into that kind of place (and lets face it most of us are whether we want to admit it or not). This place is most definitely nothing special and I would probably never order food here while I was sober which is what adds charm to it. Its definitely one of those stroll in, sit down, and grab a drink kind of gigs. They have a great craft beer selection in addition to the usual big name favorites. On top of that they have $2 craft beers during weekday happy hour! Me and my friends had a blast sipping beers and playing darts here after leaving the nearby Taste of Buffalo one weekend. This was a great place to stumble in to. When I walked in I was the only woman in a bar full of guys enjoying happy hour and the hockey game. I took a seat at the bar and was quickly helped by the friendly bartender. If I lived in the area this would be my go to bar. My "cheers" bar. The one where everyone would know my name. I liked the beers they had on tap. Plenty of TVs to watch any game you wanted (mine would be basketball and I doubt they'd play any of the Spurs games there) and friendly people. Tap House is probably the least-Chippewa bar on Chippewa. They have a pretty decent beer selection, and it doesn't get quite as rowdy on a Friday night as other establishments. It's a pretty laid back place, actually. My reason for 3 stars is that we didn't get great service. It seemed to be an off night for the bartender. Then again, there was only ONE bartender on a Friday night. As the bar filled up, it became damn near impossible to get a drink order in. Another bartender or even a bar-back probably would have been helpful. I wouldn't mind coming back, but I am rarely in the area to begin with. But still, if you are looking for a bar on the Chip Strip without all the rowdiness, this may be your place to go! read more
