I placed a to-go order over the phone and they were just being packed up at the promised time. My order consisted of a single order of hot wings that are accompanied by house made blue cheese and celery. The wings were fried and sauced perfectly! These were just the right sized and yummy. Central Park Grill is a neighborhood dive bar of the old school, a statement that probably encompasses both its substantial charms and its less substantial shortcomings. It features: 1) reasonably priced drinks, a fundamental part of the constitution of dive bars, offered in exchange for you overlooking the generally aged and squalid character of the establishment as a whole. 2) Two large indoor areas (the up and down of a split-level), the rear of which frequently hosts often-free live music (there's a Thursday open mic I attend), plus an outdoor patio for the warmer months. 3) Multiple TV's for the sports fans plus electric darts and a jukebox to pass the time. 4) Surprisingly good bar food that is also surprisingly veg and vegan-friendly. This is also quite reasonably priced, but the incredibly tiny kitchen area at the west end of the bar can get overwhelmed during rushes, leading to lengthy wait times. 5) Folksy and direct service of the dive-bar variant: friendly and colloquial, the more so the better known you are, without the greasy and obsequious taint of corporatism. Parking is on-street, but maybe you're allowed to use the lot across from it? It has no sign and I've never asked. This is a great Corner Bar that has been around forever. I remember coming here in the early 80s for live music. Nothing has really changed. Decent bar food at reasonable prices. Friendly service. Only real downside for me is that it is street parking only sometimes you have to walk a bit to get there. read more

I was taking a class nearby and looking for a place for a bite before class. There is not too many places in walking distance. This place is a bar, looked like local people and most are frequent guests. People were there after work for drinks and to watch sports games. I ordered a chicken quesadilla in medium spiciness. The portion was large, I ate half and saved the rest for lunch next day. Service was good, the food was delicious. I waved to the chef as I walked out. Crispy , saucy and good sized wings were served in the basket with a bleu cheese that definitely had me wondering where they got it because it was so damn good. The drink was great. Myself and my cousin order a whisker sour. The bartender did her big one with those drinks! I was sufficiently tipsy after drinking half. So was my cousin lol. We order wings mine extra extra crispy with Carolina gold tangy sauce which turned out to just be honey mustard lol. She ordered hot wings. We also got fries and a beef quesadilla. I enjoyed the quesadilla without the salsa to dip it into and with it but it did not need it or the salsa. I don't know the guys name who made it but it was delicious. The clientele is diverse and everyone is friendly. A woman at the bar complimented my t-shirt. This article of clothing is a Billabong shirt I've had since high school. It's 10+ years old and doesn't deserve a compliment but I was in the presence of friendly Buffalo folk. Beer is cold and won't cost you an arm & leg. Easily the most underrated wings in Buffalo. It's like the T.V how "Cheers," except nobody knew my name when I walked through the door..ANYWAY, I felt so welcomed by the bar tenders and the crowd alike because everyone had smiles on their faces. Everyone just looked happy to be here, seriously, this place is a "mood." "CPG" is the quintessential neighborhood bar that seems like it has its steady stream of regulars as I noticed many people greet each other as more and more people entered the bar. Toward the back of the place there is a cozy stage area where a live band was playing with ample seating...there was also seating near the front of the bar if you cared not to be so up close to the band. CPG, as it's known by locals, has some of the best bar food around. The chicken wings are in my top 5 in WNY (with the likes of Bar Bill, Gabriel's Gate, etc). This is where Bon Jovi broke onto the Buffalo NY music scene and became a world force in folk music. Prior to their sold out week at CPG, they were cleaning the underbodies of cars at the local Bronx Zoo Car Shop. But the CPG changed all that. Lead singer Mick Bon Jovi remembers this place fondly. I used to play open mic here, and it was decent. I don't remember the food. The atmosphere was pretty good. The open mic was okay, but the wait time was way too long and the transitions nearly non-existent. And always in the back of our heads was the notion that if you changed just one letter in the venue title, we'd be in an episode of Friends. Terrible service. Was there last night and ordered the veggie burger. Three others at my table ordered the fish fry--and though they were ordered separately, they were put in at the same time. My friends' food came pretty promptly, and by the time they were finished eating, I was still waiting. After about 45 minutes, when I went to inquire, the waitress was very rude to me and told me to ask the bartender. He said it was in the works, and I went back to my seat, getting hangry, so I had some of my friend's cold fries that were left. After about 15 more minutes, I asked the bartender again and he said my burger was on the grill and that he'd deliver it to me. (I would have left, but paid with cash. And there was a band playing-- and I didn't want to be rude to my friends.) After about 10 more minutes he finally delivered it and apologized and offered me a complimentary drink, which was nice--though, in the end, I couldn't even eat the bun because it was was burnt. I also learned that the folks in the next table over and the one behind them had been waiting over 1.5 hours for their food. The place wasn't busy--so I don't understand the long wait. When I left the bartender apologized again and attributed the long wait to the shift change. Won't go back. Horrible service. Horrible food. read more

I had a few beers, of which there was a decent selection (Bud 55 Select, Sam Octoberfest, Hoegaarden), and the food was AWESOME! Ah, CPG's. It is a nice place for music and to hang out, always been. As such, I am sad to detail my yesterday's chicken wing experience (Saturday at about 5:30 PM). With stellar recommendations for their wings from 3 people, my buddy, his Mom, and I each had an order to go. Two orders were for X-Hot and all orders were for crispy. The result: In the running for the worst wings ever. The Mom ate only 3 wings, my buddy and I each had 4. The rest were thrown away! The biggest problem was the frying oil used infused the wings with a terribly off and quite strong frying oil taste. That oil was likely leftover from Friday's fish fry. Why they did not replace the expired frying oil was an odd choice. None of the wings were crispy; they certainly should have been cooked (fried) more and bordered on being not quite fully cooked. And the X-Hot orders were not even Hot. What there was of a hot sauce mixture was skimpy and lacking much character; certainly not in the flavor realm of what's expected at a wing place in Buffalo. The blue cheese lacked a blue cheese flavor and had but 2 tiny pieces of blue cheese. Weird too, my order came with only 2 small sections of celery. I would not have written this review if the following did not happen: My buddy is an experienced cook. Last night, right after we had the few wings we ate, he called and talked to CPG's bartender whom I believe he interfaced with when he picked up the wings. The problems with the order were described in detail including mention that most of the wings were thrown out. But the strong oily taste and use of last night's frying oil dominated the conversation. The bartender was courteous and respectful; he wrote down each of the issues my buddy mentioned in order to provide all of the problem details to his manager. The bartender mentioned the manager might call my buddy, but he/she never called. If the manager had offered an explanation or an apology and some type of token, even a partial credit towards another order, we'd likely give the place a 2nd try. Alas, didn't happen. As such the cost we paid for the 3 orders was thrown away with the wings we could not stomach to eat. You be the judge to whether their customer service was up to snuff. read more

Because I thought this was in a bad neighborhood, I never went here ... I have been missing out! It is nicer inside than I expected. It is still a dive but it's not gross (bathroom was clean, tables clean, bar clean, glasses clean) - covering on seats was cracked and some things were outdated but that was about it. The grill is right next to the bar so you can see your food being prepared. I had the chicken quesadillas and they were AWESOME. Nice grill marks on the outside, lots of melted cheese, chopped up jalepenos, and a large serving of both sour cream and salsa. Prices for food were great. Bartender was incredibly friendly. Even though we walked in unannounced with about 12-15 people, she was quick and efficient. Not the best tap beer selection but not the worst either. Bartender served us her own shot creation which was unbelievable (it had jack in it and even though I don't like jack, I would definitely order her shot again. yum). After having gone to this place many times in my first years in Buffalo, I returned here with some friends for a delightful evening. Though off the beaten path, CPG is a great place that's clean, calm, and has a generally good bar atmosphere. Beers are decently priced, have a great selection, and service has always been great. One thing, and this is nostalgia talking, is that this place used to have a thing called Hodgepodge. I mention this because someone, like me, may wish to go to this place for a delicious basket of deep fried veggies (Hodgepodge) but they do not serve it anymore. My friends and I were looking forward to it, alas, we were out of luck. Owner(s) - i know they are new as of last year - bring back Hodgepodge. Aside from this nostalgic let-down, the food is actually quite good. Not many vegetarian friendly options and certainly not for vegans, but the fries are great and my friends enjoyed their burgers and wings. Decently priced for sure. And the patio - if anything, go for the amazing patio space they have! Outdoors and with great circulation. And they have rain tarps - so the rain will not be a problem at all. This bar used to be fantastic; (now under new ownership) it is now overpriced, has horrible service, and has lost all of its appeal. You used to find fair Buffalo pricing (drinks $3-5) (food $5-11) Now (drinks $5-7) (food $9-15) The bar is managed by a nasty, pompous woman name Lindsay. She gets drunk, and obnoxiously loud at the bar. The previous owner (Phil C) was professional, and in 15 years I had never witnessed him drunk at his bar. The new owners aren't personable, and they've hired a nasty drunk for a manager. Hopefully something will change, before this bar fails for good. Between its new adaptation of rap music, overpriced drinks and food, crap service, rude drunken staff (mainly the manager Lindsay), health code violations, and complete disregard for public opinion... Fantastic place for live, intimate music- especially the blues. In warm weather months the outdoor patio is a perfect for catching a smoke and some fresh air. The men's room has less square footage than a pool table so if you're bothered by rubbin elbows, you may want to consider holding it. So, I'm from London, England. I now live here in Buffalo, New York. For those that have been to London you may have discovered that we like our pubs, we like our pubs because we like to spend the day there, drinking, hanging out with friends, watching sport and genuinely wasting the day on all things we really look forward to. The thing I have missed about home the most is the pubs, comfy places where the staff are your pals and you get a lock in after hours. Now CPG isn't exactly like that but it's damn near close. I love having a local boozer that I can go to anytime because I know I'll be welcomed with a smile, conversation, great ambiance, out of this world wings and a place I love to go that isn't my front room. If you want a standard bar that go through the motions, feel like every other bar then don't go to CPG. They have great staff and the drinks are so so affordable. Specials what feel like every night. I also saw that they are Kickball Champions so they are a tight bar who love to get involved in the community. I'm writing this because they are a bar that deserve praise and deserve others who are in Buffalo to realise what they have in their City.
