a drink in a tall glass

This is what I'd call a typical dive bar. Pretty decent size bar area and some small tables as well. The menu is your typical bar food stuff. We stopped in for a small bite and a few drinks. I will say I felt intimidated for ordering just water so I ordered a cocktail. I ordered a single order of chicken fingers and fries. The portion was pretty good sized - 5 fingers and a huge side of fries for $10. Drinks were pretty cheap too - 2 cocktails and a beer for $10 Credit card minimum is $15 and there is an atm if needed. Looked like they were setting up for a band and have a Saturday lineup usually.

My boyfriend and i came here on Christmas eve before attending a holiday party up the street. Walking in this is your typical dive bar. Older crowd, younger bartender, covered outdoor porch, pool table and whatnot. We sat at the bar and the bartender greeted us, i ordered two shots, a beer and a mixed drink, service was prompt. the bar is pretty large i must say. there is a seating area so i assume they have food but he did not eat there. Overall I would stop in again, there isn't a ton to say about this place honestly, we were there for about 30 mins. One guy a few seats down from us bought the whole bar a shot, and then we headed out. Maybe if we stop in again we will try some food or take a look at the menu at least.

The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and the hostess was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Bourbon BBQ Burger, cooked medium-well, and it was absolutely delicious. Honestly, it was one of the best burgers I've had in months. My only hesitation was the price--$23 for a hamburger is a little steep. I also ordered an Old Fashioned, which was very well made and tasted great. However, I was a little disappointed that it was served in a plastic cup. I understand we were sitting outside, but since it was during the afternoon and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, I would have preferred it in a proper glass. It would have made the drink feel a little more special. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience. The food was excellent, the service was great, and I would definitely return. Next time, I'll just request a glass for my Old Fashioned!

The venue itself is of course still very new, clean and modern. That can often mean high noise…read morelevels as others have noted, modern restaurant construction seems to put acoustics at the bottom of the priority list. That said, I did not find it overly loud, just loud enough where you had to raise your voice slightly. Enough about that. Johnson's Landing has a Lenten fish fry special, $20 for a full fish fry with sides, and this includes one of their specialty beers. This is a good deal to get a craft beer included with your fish fry. I actually ordered it to go and enjoyed the beer while waiting for the fish to take out. It was a very solid fish dinner, the batter was crispy, not oily. The fish was fresh, all of the sides were good, even the rye bread was a nice hearty thick cut of rye. The mac salad featured tuna, which I do like. And the fries were hot and tasty. The fish itself was not huge but was big enough for us. Every component of the fish fry dinner was on point. The barmaid was efficient and friendly, I did not have to wait. My only complaint is that they do not list beer prices on their menu, which was fine this time since it was included with the meal, but would prevent me from enjoying a stop on the way home for a beer or two. I think it is a sneaky practice, but strangely I do note prices on their website, and guess what? All draft beers are $8 including Labatt Blue Light, unless the website is now outdated. ($8 for Labatt's!! Holy Moly!) I can see why it is not on the printed menu. I really don't like when there is not full price transparency, thus four stars instead of five. However I wholeheartedly endorse the value and quality of the Lenten fish fry special.

Never judge book by its cover. My friend has raved about this place for a while now and the other…read morenight I met her there for dinner. She warned me it was a "hole in the wall" and she was right. Personally, I love dive bars, so I wasn't afraid I would call this more of a neighborhood bar. Finding it... I thought I was going down the wrong road because it's sort of behind factories and train tracks and sits at the end of a street in the middle of a neighborhood. No big signage no big parking lot just an old building that probably was someone's house at some point in time. The exterior is nothing fancy. But as soon as you open the door, you are definitely in a neighborhood bar. We're probably "everyone knows your name "I got there at 4:15 and the place was packed. There's a bar area and a separate smallish dining room with maybe 15 tables. Maxx clearly has a lot of regulars because my friend knew one of the groups of diners and finally enough I knew one of them too. This is probably a place where neighbors gather, or guys getting off from the Ford plant. Go to have drinks after work. The service was fast and friendly with one server Rob taking care of the whole place. I honestly don't know how she did it, but she did it well and with a smile the whole time. The menu was basic, but there's something for everyone. Burgers, wings, pizza, apparently they are known for their fish fry, and homemade clam chowder. One of my group had the fish fry and it looks so good. I had to take a picture of it and send it to my husband who is also a big fish fry fan. He was impressed. She and my friend had a cup of the clam chowder soup and I regretted not having the same because it looked absolutely delicious and piping hot. You could tell it was homemade. Both my friend and I were in the mood for pizza, and I wouldn't really order pizza from a place that's not known for it but order it we did. It had more of a thick crust, but it was crispy maybe a little overdone, but it was edible and tasty. I probably should have gone for the chicken finger sub or the wings. The prices are extremely reasonable. I mean really reasonable. The quantity of food was plentiful, the quality was good, service was great,. If you're looking for a cute little bar just for some basic food, friendly service and a cold beer give this place a try. And remember, don't judge it from the outside.

Finally made it over to Sneakers to grab a couple fish fries for takeout. This is definitely one of…read morethe better fish fries I've had in the Southtowns - every aspect of it was good. The fish was a tad oily and did hurt my stomach so if you're sensitive to fried foods this may not be for you, however, it was delicious. It came a butter piece of fresh bread, Cole slaw (your choice of oil or mayo based - we had the oil which was good), pasta salad, potato salad, and fries. All of the sides were delicious - my only complaint is that the potato salad was a bit wet too for my liking and the chunks of potatoes were all kind of inconsistent sized chunks lol. I'd get the fish fry again. It was only a 25 minute pick up time despite it being super busy when I arrived which was great. It was packed with locals and I can see why. The parking lot was pretty busy but there were several lots/street parking available.
