Been here quite a few times. It's a huge place with a nice variety of foods. The staff is always polite. The food quality is very consistent. Its average as far as Chinese food goes. Nothing jumps off the buffet as stellar, but no matter when you go, you know what you're getting will be as good as the last time you visited the restaurant. I will say that their sushi is on point. When we entered this restaurant, we were seated quickly. I noticed they had complimentary 2014 calendars with puppies, so I snagged one of those asap. It was a good start to the experience. This is probably one of the most disgusting buildings I've been in. It only took about 45 minutes and I was laying on my bathroom floor. After almost vomiting my stomach started turning and I was on a toilet all evening. I hate to be so blunt about it but it's the honest truth. The walls look like they haven't been cleaned in years, and the food was far from good. I wouldn't feed that stuff to my worst enemy. You could smell urine from outside of the bathrooms and it was beyond expensive considering how poor the quality of the food was. The sushi literally just looked horrid, the meats they had out looked awful and upon cutting a piece of chicken open it appeared to be either undercooked or just extremely poor quality. This place is definitely worth the money. I've eaten here twice and had a carry out meal once (a few minutes ago, actually!) so I felt the need to write a review. I've been to quite a few buffets. Besides one other buffet I've been to, this one has the most options. All you can eat Chinese, American, Hibachi, and Sushi for $10? Count me in. Fountain drinks are an extra $1.39 but honestly, that is still cheaper than other restaurants. The two times I've eaten here were similar experiences. The Chinese/American food is what you'd find at any other buffet, however, the food is always fresh. They are constantly changing out food trays and replacing them with more fresh food. It makes a big difference! For the hibachi, the meat and vegetables are pretty good (with options such as chicken, steak, shrimp,and more) and the noodles/rice were kind of bland. It's nothing special, but at most other places, that alone would be over $10 so it's worth it. The sushi is average. They also have an ice cream bar with sprinkles/nuts, another desert area, and a "boat" with salads, raw fish (like shrimp and crab legs), fruit, etc. All of these are kept fresh as well. For my first carry out, I phoned in the order of 3 maki rolls and some shrimp fried rice. I was skeptical about ordering sushi from here because I know the buffet sushi wasn't the best. Before I even paid, the young man went over my order with me and we discovered that one of the rolls wasn't what I asked for. The young man was very nice about it and quickly made me a new roll within 2 minutes. When I sat down to eat, I was surprised that each of the rolls had 9 pieces! It was so much food! And the sushi was sooo much better made fresh than having it wit out at the buffet. The fried rice was a little bland, but the amount of shrimp they gave me made up for it. At first I thought it was a little pricey, but for the amount of food I got, it was more than worth it! Not bad for the price. They have a large spread of typical Chinese buffet food. I liked the coconut shrimp, sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken, roast pork, and clams. Some of the clams weren't cleaned well though. They also have a stir fry station that I didn't try. The sushi selection was small and they weren't the best quality. I usually love salmon but somehow theirs were tasteless. So don't come here for the sushi. I had some fruit and almond cookie for dessert. Overall satisfied but not impressed by anything. This is just your average Chinese buffet. During my time at Binghamton, this was the spot if you wanted to get the most food for the price for dinner. This place was all you can eat for $13-15 per person. If you want to get full, this is the place to do it. Nothing too specular about the place except for the price. They do have their own parking lot which may get crowded during dinner time. Be sure to come a little early to secure a spot. read more

what has happened to this place? it used to be clean, food was good, wait staff helpful... not anymore! my famil went there yesterday, and couldn't believe the difference.... we'd not been here in 2 years. the waitress we had was rude, I asked if I could give her a to go order, for spouse at home, she told me "no, go to register!" the food was in some cases burned and all but General Toas chicken tasteles. dirty silverware was given to us, no straws. I asked waitress for a straw and I was told " have none." women's bathroom was disgusting... filled with black mold and toilet overflowed. no one has cleaned it for a long while! this place was a family favorit, now a cesspool just like the rest. I attend Binghamton University and am a regular attender here a couple of times per semester. I am originally from Staten Island and I can confidently say this is the best buffet style Asian cuisine place I have been too. While it might not be the most high quality food, it is still very good and their selection is amazing. They have soups, chicken dishes, beef dishes, seafood dishes, american dishes, sushi and much more. There is a large amount of seating so even when the place seems very crowded you do not have to wait that long. Along with the large food selection they have an ice cream station for desert as well as a chocolate fountain which one can dip pretzels and marshmallows into. They amount of ice cream choices are very high and they have a nice selection of toppings. It is usually a nice way to cap off a night of lots of eating. read more

Awesome Buffet! The best Buffet Restaurant on the vestal plaza. I've been there a couple times in the past 2 months and has been phenomenal each visit. The food has always been fresh and warm and is consistently restocked. The waitresses are always polite and quick to refill drinks. Their restaurant is always tidy and clean which makes for a nice eating atmosphere. For a cheaper Buffet this establishment has a refreshing taste in style and interior design. From the ambient lighting to the art on the walls, I think every restaurant should put as much effort into their look as they did. For a low price of $10 a plate you can't really go wrong. The only cons I have seen so far is the smaller supply of sushi. Each time I have went there were only 5 choices to pick from with not that many side sauces. I'd also like to add that their desert selection was a little slim as well. If you guys addressed these two slight disadvantages I'd be a completely satisfied customer. read more

The idea behind a buffet is quantity over quality. This is about as close as you can get to both. Two people can go for lunch for just over $15. They have a cheese steak roll which is awesome. We ate here on Saturday, June 8 at 6:30pm while in the area. It was my first meal of the day & I only ate 2 plates of sushi, my hubby ate 1 plate plus other items. I always come here when I am craving chinese food and don't want to spend a lot. Prices are really reasonable. They also have American food like pizza. I guess they have most of the Asian cuisines. Buffet Comparison Buffet Star is the best Chinese buffet in the Southern Tier that I've eaten. The buffet is pretty extensive. The options are great, but it seems like some chefs make the food less delicious. Buffet Star destroys all the other Chinese Buffets in the area when it is at it's best. Food The food is good but some things could be better. The Sesame chicken tends to disappoint. The baked salmon was pretty bland and the ribs were not good at all. They usually aren't here unfortunately. The lo mein, the dumplings, and a lot of other things are flavorful and tasty though. The place seems to have "off days" where almost everything is bland unfortunately. If you go on a day which is not one of these off days, then you have successfully made the right choice for where to go eat. Service The service is good. The waitresses are very nice and attentive. I went an gave it another try. They removed the Chocolate fountain they had but this time at least the food was a lot fresher and had more flavor. The coconut shrimp was still extremely dry though and inedible so I was still very disappointed in that. There was only 2 broccoli/ vegetable dishes despite the largeness of the buffet but at least this time the food was mediocre instead of below average. Buffet Star is fantastic. Probably the best buffet in the area. The food selection is pretty darned massive, with tons of sushi options, a huge salad bar, plenty of deserts (with even more on certain nights of the week from what I can tell) and dozens of options altogether. They even have some really unique items I haven't seen at other buffets, like salted frog's legs. (Don't knock it till you've tried it. They're delicious!) Saw one or two other reviews saying the variety wasn't that big... I have absolutely no clue what they're talking about at all. I've gone about four or five times a year for the past several years, and each time the food has been really good. Everything is flavorful and mouth-watering. Maybe not the best Chinese I've ever had, but as far as buffets go, it's up there. I particularly love the boneless ribs, sauteed veggies, cheese wontons and of course the sushi. And the best part is, it's really affordable. About $10 (a little more if you go during diner) for a great variety of good food and drink. The seating is quite comfortable, and it's very roomy inside, so there's little of that "everyone being right on top of eachother" nonsense you encounter at some buffets. (Only once have I ever been there and had a problem with the crowds, but it was during the diner hour on a Friday night, so I can't complain.) It might not be the best buffet on the planet, but if you're in the Binghamton/Vestal area, this is the place to go! read more

My family of 5 all love Buffet Star! The variety is tremendous from Sushi to Hibachi to clams to ribs to dim sum to chicken on a stick and then lots of dessert options, jello, ice cream, puddings, fruit... It never ends. They seat you quickly, and every time you go up, they clear your dirty plates and refill your water. The price is reasonable and they offer a student discount. This is our go to for Chinese buffet food. The options are many and the food quality is very good and very tasty. There are tables for larger groups available so that is nice. The only reason not to give them 5 stars is the relative crowding both in the dining area and at the buffet, often you must wait in line for several minutes to get one item as people are generally not willing to let others in even if they are not taking from that particular area, As I must make several trips for others,( little kids) I find this frustrating. read more

I went again today for dinner and it wasn't as bad as my last visit. The food was the same but I got a different server this time. The waitress was very sweet and nice unlike the crazy last time who forced us to give her a tip. She forced US LAST TIME. I felt relief that we didn't get that crazy lady and this lady was much nicer as she offered to refill our water and drinks. The bottom line is it depends on which waitress you get because if you get a crazy like I did it will definitely be a bad experience. Update: the last time I visited Buffet Star I was not pleased with the general state of the food. Dishes were dried out, over salted or completely underflavored. Perhaps there has been a change in management or the management has lost sight of quality and instead is focusing on sheer quantity. I've modified my rating to reflect the recent decline/lack of consistency in the food quality. Perhaps I need to arrive earlier? Though I would imagine the food should be nearly as good toward the end of buffet hours as when the hours just start. Who knows. Things just don't seem the same as what I remember from a few years back. -- The best Chinese buffet in Vestal and arguably the best among many states! Tried other buffets in other parts of NY and along the eastern seaboard and haven't found a better one yet. The food is fresh and the price is right. Some people complain about the staff being rude but they seem more efficient and to the point than anything. I have never had a problem or issue. For a great value on good food, look no further than the lunch buffet. It was ridiculous. We had a piece of paper trash (fortune cookie paper) in our drink and saw it after my finished half of his cup. We called the waitress Tiffany who served us the drink, she rolled her eyes at us with such an attitude and said it was totally normal and fine. No apology... We came here as a last minute decision because the event we were going to was delayed by 2 hours. It was a very by place but seated right away. They determine if a child is charged as an adult by a tape mark at the door entrance, so my son was charged as an adult and ate less than his 6 year old cousin. My son is 10. The food was buffet food, good. There were 2 adults and 3 children however, according to the tape, 4 adults and 1 child my bill was over $50. Will not take my children back because they just don't eat as adults. read more
