I don't know what happened. The experience at one point was pleasant, but this is the 3rd and last time that I will be stepping foot in this establishment. Not sure if ownership has changed or something but there is a woman working there who upon entry makes faces, stares and mumbles things. It's really rude and uncomfortable and I can't imagine what I could have done to her. I don't know the woman personally I don't believe I've done anything wrong to her.. though on multiple occasions this has been my experience. She's not the one taking the orders but always "mean mugs" and then recites something in another language when she sees me. We used to love Foliage. It was our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Always our "go to". Recently, it appears it has come under new management, and everything about it has changed, including smaller portions, lower quality, and much higher prices. We had ordered a couple of weeks ago and were disappointed. The food was just ok. But this week, we tried again and had a particularly disastrous experience! We ordered Kung Pao chicken, and It was terrible! It consisted of small, round chewy pieces of chicken and what appeared to be frozen vegetables! Additionally, they did not include the (now tiny) carton of white rice that was supposed to accompany the entree. The food was just awful and cost $12.99. We had to throw it out! The chicken in the chicken fried rice was overcooked and hard, and there were almost no vegetables! It was so disappointing! We are now on the search for a new Chinese restaurant. Sadly, We will not go here again after literally being customers for years and years. read more

Growing up in this area, Foliage was the BEST Chinese food. So, I knew it in its heyday and over the years I've seen it decline but my most recent visit was pleasant. It seems to be getting back to what it once was. The restaurant itself inside hasn't been renovated in over 10 years. It is the same exact tables, chairs, and wallpaper. It would be great to see them update the restaurant to give it a fresher feeling. The service when you dine in the restaurant is kind of hit or miss. They don't necessarily have people working as servers. So if they're getting a lot of calls and walk ins, they are taking care of those customers and you don't get much attention at the tables. Sometimes, it's better to just order at the counter and then sit down. The food from my most recent visit was delicious and everything came out great. This place still has my favorite wonton soup out of all of the Chinese restaurants that I have tried since moving out of the area. My favorite part of dining in the restaurant is when they give you what I like to call Chinese chips and dip. They are basically fried wonton strips and what looks like duck sauce. But it's wayyyy better than the duck sauce in the take-out packets. read more

I love this place. If I had my choice every time of where to go for chinese food, I would pick Foliage. Their soups are clean tasting, which is rare for staple chinese, as is their entree dishes. The portions are big, but more than that, it tastes great! You don't walk out feeling gross and heavy, but satisfied. Surprisingly good Chinese food from a strip-mall type restaurant located across the street from a cemetery in Johnson City. While that picture may not sound appealing, trust me, the food is very good. I was very surprised to find that Foliage was so extraordinarily decent. I wasn't expecting much when I placed my first order, thanks to all of the other Chinese restaurants in Binghamton that are disgusting, but Foliage blew them all out of the water. I ordered the General Tsao's chicken, and when I went to pick it up, I was greeted by cheerful decor and an equally cheerful waitstaff. The meal itself was very good, and you could tell the ingredients were fresh. The chicken was not overly greasy, nor did it taste like something that had been produced by a shopping mall food court. It was yummy, and provided a solid meal for a couple of days. Honestly, this may be the best Chinese restaurant in Binghamton. Just tried this place while visiting from NJ. I have to rank this sub-par, even for strip mall chinese. There are a few tables and no decor. I tried the hot and sour soup- really insipid. The look on the waiter's face when I ordered lobster fried rice should have told me to cancel that. There were 2-3 morsels of fishy-tasting lobster and mostly surimi (mock crabmeat) on a plate of pale tasteless rice. The shrimp dish was ok, and the batter-fried chicken on vegetables was mediocre. There were no Asian clients while I was there- a bad sign. If this is better than other local chinese restaurants, then I could never live here. Skip this, go to China Lake. read more

I remember foliage when I was an undergrad. Probably the best take out Chinese place in the area. I always ordered the chicken with garlic sauce extra spicy. It was always good. It's also cheap too. I liked that when you dined in they gave you the free chips with the dipping sauce along with free hot tea. There are a bunch of options in the area, but with two recommendations (Jeff O's review and the Time Warner cable guy), I had to go with Foliage. Solid chinese food. We went with the "standard trio" as I like to call it; Sesame Chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, and Pork Fried Rice. High marks for all, but the Sesame Chicken really stood out. Pretty much everything they do here is great, but I'm a particular fan of the tofu with black bean sauce. The takeout is significantly cheaper than dining in, with the one benefit of dining in being the free crunchy noodles in duck sauce and hot mustard at the table. a lot of people have told me that this is the best place for chinese food, and it is definitely better than most places, but there are also other places that are equally as good. i've been here about 5 times or so over the last couple years, and honestly i forget how a lot of the stuff i had a few years ago tasted, but i remember it being good, so this review will be based off my most recent visit. pu pu platter- usually these come with chicken wings but foliage opted to have chicken tenders instead. i would have preferred wings but the tenders were still good. they were unlike others i've had, i feel like they used a panko breading and it was a nice change of pace. the ribs had a good sauce on them but they were typical chinese ribs that were on the tougher side with not much meat on the bones. the beef teriyaki was really good though, nice flavor and easy to chew. sometimes pupu platters come with fried wantons, this one did not. the fried shrimp had the same breading as the chicken tenders. general tso's combo platter- the eggroll was very good. crisp and not too chewy and not too salty. the pork fried rice had a good texture but i gotta admit i'm not a fan of the peas and carrots. there also wasn't much pork in there either but the pork that was there was good and not dried out. as for the chicken, it lost some it's crispy texture being squashed in the container on the ride home, but it was still pretty good. the sauce was similar to some places i've had but different from most, it was a good balance of sweet and heat. i'm not on this side of town too often but if i was i would go here at least a few times per month. it's mostly takeout but they do have some seating that's nicer than most chinese places. the one woman who runs it is very nice, but sometimes the other people who take your order have kind of a "whatever" attitude, not rude but not extremely polite either. read more

I was in town on business and in the mood for Chinese. I read the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try, and I am glad I did. I was a little nervous as it is not in the most appealing strip mall, in fact it almost looks closed when you pull up. With that being said I ordered anyway, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I had the chicken and broccoli and a wonton soup. The fried rice was not heavy, and very good. In my opinion, Foliage is the best Chinese takeout in Binghamton. They are very consistent- the food looks and tastes exactly the same every time you're there.
