I've been going to this place for at least 10 years off and on since it opened and it is by far the best sushi restaurant in the greater Binghamton area. Nothing compares to the quality and service of what you get here. Certain other restaurants might have more trendy Asian fusion items on the menu, but if you want Japanese cuisine as it's supposed to be (more traditional style) this place is a knockout. Can be a little pricier but it is absolutely worth it. If you're new to the greater Binghamton area and looking for sushi, try this place first!

Came to Sakura around 4 o'clock on a Friday for two sushi rolls. I called in an order for 2 rolls; salmon cucumber with brown rice and tuna avocado with brown rice. I was told my order would be ready in 25 minutes and when I showed up the food was ready. The restaurant was completely empty, which can be expected at an odd eating hour like this. The guy who checked me out was very nice, the 2 rolls came to $18 and I thought that was pretty expensive. Not sure if they had lunch deals that I missed because of what time it was, but there are other sushi places in the Binghamton area that have 3 rolls for $9 lunch specials so I was a little surprised having to pay as much as I did. I am from Long Island and I pay less for rolls down there and everything is expensive down there. Anyways, the rolls were brown rice but more so purple rice, which I've seen before. It makes me wonder if the rice is actually brown rice or if it's maybe food coloring. Regardless, the rolls were pretty big and tasted fresh. The fish to rice ratio was a little off, more rice than fish but nevertheless fresh and tasty. The two rolls really filled me up, which I was happy about. I'd come back here but would be curious if they offer lunch specials that come with a soup or salad. If you're looking for fresh and don't mind paying a bit more money I'd recommend coming here.

This is our favorite sushi place in the Binghamton area by a mile. It features super fresh fish, perfectly made rolls, friendly staff that remember us, and a relaxed atmosphere. Seriously, if you've tried Ebishura near BU and dislike how loud and crowded it is, go to Sakura. The prices are reflective of the fact that this is a high quality sushi restaurant, but when you compare the per roll price versus Ebishura it's about the same. The quality, however, is much higher. Underrated bonus items - their salad dressing is freakishly good, like a soy/ginger dynamic that works perfectly. Also, they stock Asahi Super Dry Beer, and not many places do. Pairs perfectly with the sushi. They participate in restaurant week, so that's a nice opportunity to try Sakura at a bit of a discount.

Best sushi in Binghamton!! Very fresh, clean and taste amazing. I go to sakura for volcano and spicy tuna crunch and they are both great! Dinners include soup and salad with amazing home-made sesame dressing. Servers are very kind and friendly. Awesome service! I highly recommend this place if u are looking for sushi. Yummm

If I go out for dinner, I'm spending my money on sushi. IMHO, Sakura is the best sushi restaurant in Broome County.

Slightly better and a lot cheaper than Kampai in Vestal. They have a small selection of Korean food as well.

Rice was too dry. Miso soup is salty. Sashimi and sushi was not fresh. This is literally the worst sushi place I've ever been to.

Walking in it was fairly dimly lit and silent as I was to be the only diner. The staff was very friendly and got me seated with a menu at the sushi bar immediately. The menu was fairly baseline with a few signature specialty dishes but all consisting of the same ingredients. I order a Hot tea, the Sashimi lunch special which came with a Miso Soup & side of Rice as well as the Treasure Island appetizer to sample some of their more unique dishes. The Miso Soup was both warm and flavorful. The Treasure Island app was an interesting blend of sweet savory and fat flavors with fresh Mango, Avocado, Tobiko, Ponzu and diced fish's but it was unfortunately all just overtaken by the heavy Mayo and tempura flakes. The Sashimi lunch was presented fairly but the quality of the fish was sub par to say. All of the previous frozen variety and using Izumidai "tilapia" in place of Red Snapper. Overall it certainly was not the greatest Sushi dining experience for me personally and I would pass on the next opportunity to visit. That being said there seems to be very limited Sushi dining opinion this area and it was fairly reasonably priced 2 course lunch. 3.9/10 Very friendly staff, lower quality ingredients.

I had no choice but to visit them during BU move-in weekend which was the only weekend I was in Vestal and it was, as I expected, very busy. I don't usually like to order online but I did this time to save some time and that was definitely a smart move because the line was very long. I was frustrated though because I saw what I was pretty sure was my drink get prepared and set on the counter and then sit there for like 5 minutes because there was no one attending to the online order drinks. When someone made a drink for a customer that had ordered in person they would hand that drink to the customer and then immediately run back to making the next order so I couldn't ask anyone because they were always busy. From the moment you walk in, the owners and staff make you feel like family. Watching them interact with hundreds of guests throughout the night--many of whom they know by name--you quickly realize how much they genuinely care about everyone who walks through their doors. After reading some of the negative comments, I want to address a few things. Yes, it's a busy place, especially on weekends, and it can get loud with multiple hibachi tables going at once. However, past concerns about ventilation and the availability of yum yum sauce have been addressed and resolved. As for the food, the sushi quality is without question the best in the area, and you'd be hard-pressed to find better outside of the city. We stopped ordering off the menu and let the sushi chefs create whatever the want for us. Never once have we not enjoyed what they made! They even offer an omakase experience, which--while more expensive--is absolutely incredible for anyone seeking a high-end dining experience. So ignore the bad reviews people wrote on here. Some people just will never be happy. Come experience one of the best Japanese Steakhouse's you'll come across and see why they rarely have a slow night.
