We've been coming to this restaurant for almost 20 years. I lived in Hawaii for a few years and fell in love with Korean cuisine. It's been nearly impossible to find food of the same caliber. This comes close. The kalbi is my favorite thing there. I do not understand all the reviews about the owner. He has always been so nice to us. The service is always slow. It's all cooked fresh. I think Mr Kim needs more help. He tries to do too much by himself. His family should pitch in. They used to, but I've not seen anyone else the last few times we have been there. I've never seen Mr Kim be rude to anyone, but I've seen a lot of people be rude to him. I'm not saying he's not been rude to anyone, but sometimes you get what you give. The owner/waiter is genuinely unreasonable and erratic. He goes off on long, aggressive rants over the simplest questions or requests. For example, my girlfriend has allergies to shellfish and nuts. We were fully aware of the contamination risk and just wanted to confirm that the dish we were ordering didn't contain either ingredient. Instead of answering, he launched into a monologue about how we couldn't sue him if she died, how he doesn't serve people with allergies, and how we should just go to Popeyes instead. Another time, we were with a larger group and asked if we could move to a bigger table. Rather than accommodate the request, or even just decline politely, he started ranting again about how impossible it was, told us Popeyes had bigger tables, and that this was a "small restaurant," etc. He was so rude we didn't leave a substantial tip, and he responded by scolding my girlfriend. I have no idea what this guy's issue is, but it's gotten to the point where we won't go back. He makes my girlfriend extremely uncomfortable. If you like oriental food and authentic drinks, Man Nam is an excellent place. My wife and I decided to eat there at least twice a month. I've eaten in two Korean restaurants in Singapore and can testify that Man Nam's food is as good as in the these acclaimed places. You may want to taste Korean sake Soju and Korean wines of different flavor. Unfortunately, the owner's English is far from perfect and you have to exercise some patience when communicate with him. I see a lot of comments complaining about the owner, and I can total understand. He yelled at one table for ordering separately, and another table for sharing the entrée. Luckily he didn't yell at me. It is kind of weird that he asked you to stay outside and wait for him to lead you to the table, even though there are not many customers and you can easily see empty tables. Based on what I experienced I am pretty surprised they are still running the business. I would give 0 star if there is an option. The owner is so rude and unhappy the moment we walked in and asked where to sit and he told us with unhappy voice that he is alone and busy and wait at the door and do not come inside. I told he could say nicely then he replied back if we are busy then go get the food from KFC next door. Pretty authentic Korean food. The owner who runs the shop and cooks the food is Korean as well. He loves to talk and will go in depth into Korean history. It is a very small shop and the owner will often times let you know that it can be a slow service as he could be the only one working the tables and cooking. Very considerate person and you can tell his passion for the food to be appreciated. Going about the food, it is very good. Won't be as good as say going to Korean town in NYC, but for a small town, it is pretty good. The kimchi did taste a bit more on the sour side than a mix of sour/spicy. The owner is incredibly rude and unprofessional and I have never met a business where it is so DIFFICULT to try and support. Try calling for an order you either won't get an answer or you will be told it's "busy" and to call back later, only to do just as such and either receive no answer or get berated on the phone again. Try to go in person and just get turned away. Tried to bring the family and was turned away...AGAIN as we were told "I cannot serve groups". It's a shame because years ago it was a great spot to go to for great food...now it's just a shell of what it once was. If the operator no longer enjoys running this establishment just close up shop. The food is not bad, but nothing amazing. Everything is priced similarly to Korean spots in nyc/flushing (which is to say: not cheap), but admittedly is not as good. The bibimbap was solid even if it had ground meat in it, but the kimchi chiggae was a little bland in my opinion. When I went the notoriously cranky server did yell at some other customers for seating themselves without waiting to be seated despite the restaurant being mostly empty at the time. Luckily I seemed to be spared from his wrath for that day. I'm not picky with things like customer service (I know what it's like to work customer service) but I did find his attitude towards other customers a little off putting. They gave me quite a number of beed ribs, with radish and glass noodles, and a box of white rice. Koreans love to eat soup with rice in it. The soup is rich in texture and taste really good! After reading the past reviews, we were on the fence about going to this restaurant. We had just dropped our kid off to college and this was the only Korean restaurant around. Since the negative reviews seemed to be about the demeanor of one of the server/managers, but the food reviews seemed okay, we decided to give it a shot. So it was definitely stressful being there. We happened to be Korean speaking, so the cranky grandpa server was nice to us. But his cranky, I don't-have-time-for-this-crap attitude towards some of the other people entering for a table made for a tense ambience. In terms of food, it was okay. Definitely somewhere you could go if you were craving some Korean food. We had the galbi, hwedupbap and dwenjang jjigae, and the taste was all good. The dwenjang jjigae did seem pricey for the size of the bowl it came in, but I guess people have to make a living. First time in Binghamton and we decided to find a korean place! When we showed up the place was pretty quiet. The staff was nice and we gladly ordered our food. Overall this place was good for what they had to offer in such a small town. I come from Los Angeles where korean food is literally everywhere!
