We were very skeptical to stop here for dinner since it had poor reviews. But... it was almost 9pm and it was really the only option left besides fast food. We were pleasantly surprised by excellent food and service!!! Tristan was our server and he was attentive, knowledgeable and hard working. We had the sliced andouille sausage with naan bread for an appetizer (not pictured). It was quite tasty with a spicy kick! My son said the hash browns were excellent and also enjoyed the pork tenderloin sandwich. He's had better but we live in Iowa so are probably spoiled with some of the best! My husband had the smokehouse burger and broccoli. He thought it was pretty good as well. My Sierra chicken was excellent! The chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the sauce. The asparagus was slightly overcooked but the flavor was outstanding so very enjoyable. We would definitely come back here and I feel like people should give it a chance!! Our server Maya was fantastic! The food was awful. Lobster Mac and cheese was cold. Rueben had no sauerkraut. Bartender was rude.

This place has a history of inconsistency. Been coming in off and on for 8 years. Infrequently disappointed, but never really in love. A dear friend has recently been hired as wait staff and I thought I'd give Buford's another shot. Glad I did! Ordered a strip steak. My waitress returned to inform me of the kitchen being out of strips. I then asked for their ribeye med rare. Steak came out perfect. Not the best ribeye on the planet, but probly the best in Fort Dodge Iowa. Absolutely all of the 12 ounces the menu said it would be. As I finished my steak I overheard another table being informed they were out of ribeyes! Food=8 Service=9 Nice place, they'll mix your drink stout. Ask for Lexi she's the best! read more

We ate here because we were staying at the hotel it's attached to. The BBQ was good, and the french onion soup. The service was slow, but they had a banquet going on in another room so can't really fault them for being behind. Our biggest complaint was in trying to order a mixed drink. They served our drink in a tiny glass with barely any alcohol in it. For a minute I thought I was in Utah. Never going back. read more

I quit going to this place over a year ago because they did a steep 'across the board' price raise on their menu. Stopped in again tonight, and it was the same old same old. The food is ok, the interior is alright. Ordered a grilled pork chop, and it was undercooked on one side throughout. This sealed the deal... I'm done with this place. read more

Waitress was exceptional went above and beyond. We were excited to go..but good was medicore. Waitress deserves a raise!!!

I order a sandwich and a Diet Coke. She brought over my pop and the sandwich came quickly. Refilled my soda asked the kind. I said Diet Coke. It did not tasted right but it was cold. Got my bill and it said Pepsi. When I ask she told me it was the same thing. IT IS NOT. When I order Coke please do not try to pass Pepsi for coke. I just paid and left. read more

The food was great but the service was horrible maybe because the waitress never served an Afro American family before. She was very slow about serving us and not friendly at all! Thank God the manager did come to are table and acknowledge us. Good ribs and steaks; steaks large and cooked just as ordered, ribs succulent. Side dishes a bit bland, but fresh tasting. Service quick, but somewhat impersonal--seemed more interested in chatting with other wait staff. 1/2 rack of ribs with a beer about $16, steak without beer about the same. Big selection of national beer brands, not much in the way of craft beers; at least they have Sam Adams. A good small-town steakhouse, far superior to national chains. read more

The worst part about Buford's is its location on Fort Dodge's northwest side, more than a couple of miles from highway 20. The best part....everything else. Excellent smoked meats and a variety of sauces to please any taste. Colleagues and I had the back ribs and smoked turkey with salads and veggies. Best I have had north of Alabama. The 4 stars reflect the overcooked asparagus, but then it is Iowa and greens are not the thing here. Wait staff was friendly and responsive. I will now time my trips to include dinners in Fort Dodge! read more

Wait staff is very young and friendly but clearly lacking in training. When we asked waitress what "beer they had on tap" she didn't know what that meant, then served bottled beer without a mug--we asked for mugs and she replied "you mean like root-beer"--we never got the mug, then she served one of us the wrong entree. We didn't have the heart to tell her as she was clearly trying so hard. The wrong meal actually turned out to be very good (brisket sandwich with au jus). However, what forced the two star rating was watching wait staff in the prep room put black gloves on to to pick through lettuce in a tub and then repeatedly coming back into the restaurant to bus tables and deliver tabs/carry money while still wearing the gloves. Again, staff was super friendly and nice--just lacking in training. Food was good but we wouldn't eat there again given what we saw with the salad prep. read more

Best dinner we have had in Iowa. Good BBQ, Very nice salad and Tasha give us great service. Would definitely recommend.
