Build-A-Bear has been around for so many years but my first experience did not come around until my 5 year old wanted a new summer stuffy. It was a special occasion as we had tickets to see the new Toy Story 5 film the next day. He selected a frog who he stuffed and dressed in Woody's clothes. The employee who helped us was super kind and walked my son through the stuffing and building process. The main drawback is the cost. By the time my son was done dressing his stuffed animal, he had added a bubble gum scent pack, and beating heart, and a hairbrush. The entire experience and takehome animal came to over $70! I decided that Build-A-Bear will be a once in a blue moon kind of trip. If you do go, don't forget to print your animal's free "Birth Certificate"! read more

Excellent customer service from the time we walked in the door until the end of our visit. Several different types of bears and themes to choose from throughout the store. Went in to BAB for our youngest daughter's birthday. You pay the age of your child for their special bear plus tax! What a deal! Hubs brought us here as a celebration of life for my dad who passed in September and this being the first birthday of his that I am without him. My daughter and I got bears made and placed stones of dad's ashes inside! What a great way to honor him and give me that perfect way of hugging him always!! This store is clean and organized. Staff is there to greet you upon walking in. The staff member that helped us was wonderful. She explained the special they had going on and when it was time to make our bears she was patient with us as we placed our little bags of ashes into the bear. There turned out perfect! They have a huge selection of all sorts of animals you're able to stuff. And you can decide how soft or firm you want your animals. I always like to keep my bears without clothes but if you are into dressing your creation up, there's a huge selection of that as well. Today, we celebrated a very special person's birthday by having some bears made. Like all Build a Bears, this location is colorful and the employees are prompt, courteous, professional, and all seem to enjoy their jobs. It's setup in a logical fashion with the stuffed animals in one section to pick from to take to the different stations to do things like creating a name, stuffing, and making a voice recording. The opposite side has a lot of clothes and accessories you can add to your stuffed animal if you want. The woman we spoke with listed all of the specials going on and got us lined up for anything specific we were looking for. We ended up getting two bears and a rainbow pillow looking stuffed animal The bears, we got stuffed and had a heart put in them. We also added a special momento to the bear (something the store would not have) and they were accommodating. The squishy thing was an add on stuffed animal and I just picked it out from the shelf. We did keep the bears naked, they are soft and cuddly so it didn't make sense to cover them up. We were literally in and out in 15 minutes. To be honest, if our daughter was still a little girl, this would be a great place to do a birthday party. Maybe she would still do it even as a teenager. Who knows? Either way, I like this place and I make it a point to try to get a build a bear from cities I travel to. So if you're in North/New Tampa and want to do something like getting your own stuffed animal, this is definitely the place to do it. read more

Finally! I took my granddaughter to Build a Bear! I was more excited than she was. Lol. I've been planning this day for months. The time was right to introduce this 2 year old to BAB at The Shops at Wiregrass. The store is in a great location. You can park in the parking lot. And if you are lucky, you can get a spot right out front. You gotta love those outdoor shopping centers. As we entered we were greeted by a sales associate who told us all about the specials. She also was very sweet to my granddaughter. We picked the bear and the process started. I really like how they make sure to engage the child. Even though my granddaughter was not very much with the whole process, the associate never broke character. That was great. We proceeded to pick out clothes and another associate came to help us dress her. She then took us to the computer to create a birth certificate. And that is where Rainbow Bear was born. Great time. I've been here before for shopping, but recently took my little girl to a birthday party here. She loved it! The package included a bear and an outfit. The BaB host had the girls play games and prim and prep their bears. Cute and kept them entertained. It would be nice if there were a specific section for parties. Came in for my kids' ninth birthday to CELEBRATE. They have a special where you pay your age on your Birthday. Right when we entered we were immediately greeted by the staff. I told them we were here to celebrate their birthdays. The staff made them a Bear themed crown and sticker with their names and age for everyone to know and join in on the celebration. They each got the special "BIRTHDAY" bear, and took it over to the stuffing area. The staff members took their time with each child making them feel super important. They were handed a special birthday heart to do the dance and routine of getting it ready to be placed inside of their personalized bear. Then, the bear is check to ensure ideal stuffiness (hard or soft) per the child's liking. Finally, they close the bear and kids wash/brush them. I let them pick out a scent to be placed on the inside (Additional charge). My son picked lollipop scent while my daughter picked out lavender for hers. Next, I handed them the birthday themed bear shirt (additional charge) which you have a choice of pink or blue. Then, they each made a personalized bear birth certificate. They love this part as they come up with fun names for their bear. At checkout, they were handed the bear birth certificate and box they can color. Overall, the kids had a fantastic time and got to take a gear home to keep. This cost about $20 for each kid ($9 as that is their age for birthday bear with stuffing and special birthday heart, additional charges of $3.50 for scent, and additional charge of $6). read more

The staff is so friendly and will go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. I came in to make my cousin a bear with our grandmothers voice in it. The staff lady went out oh her way to turn off the music playing in the store so the recording would come out perfect. The line inside was ridiculous that I walked in and then out .No one monitoring how many people are in the store .I finished with the others store and decide to go check back .There was a person finally at the door .I waited almost half hour to get in which honestly didn't bother me .My son is two so obviously he saw Chase from Paw Patrol and that's what he wanted.The sign directly under Chase says $20 and there's another sign under the female character said $29. They also had a discount price for both of you brought two. The staff that filled the toys was wonderful.The person at the register was great .Upon leaving I notice I was charged $35 for a sound and Chase.I went and explained that the sign clearly states $20 right under chase .The sales floor person said the sign was for a item in the next bin.They then offered to bring me to management.I explained my issue and this tasteless young lady leaning against the shelf's like if we were in a bar having a conversation says " yeah no that's for another item " I then explained that it's false advertising.To my absolute shock she said " yes I agree but that's what corporate wants us to don" . So I then asked if I could get the 2for $45 and she told me I'd have to buy an additional 2 bears and she couldn't just charge me the difference..Was she serious ? This was a member of management? I looked around and saw people staring so I decided not to argue any more but did say I was contacting the customer care . Fun spot for little ones to "create" their own stuffed animal. We've come to build a bear as a treat, and today we had the opportunity to attend as part of a friend's birthday party. They have a variety of animals to choose from, ranging in price from $10 up to around $25. Animals from bears to dogs, to cats and monkeys, and even your favorite characters such as Smurfs, Spongebob, and My Little Pony are available. The kids (and on some occasions, adults) next choose if they'd like to put a sound inside for around $4. Then, they choose a heart. The employees do a great job with the little spiel and sayings they do for the heart like "Put it on your back so he always has your back" and "Jump up and down to get the heart started" and "Put it on your head so he will be as smart as you" etc. Then, they get to help stuff the animal. The employee attaches the animal to the stuffing machine as they kid pushes the pedal with their foot. Then, they sew up the back of the animal and you're off to the "Fluff" station. They use a pedal to force air down onto the animal and use a brush to "wash" their new friend. This is where the freebies end. The next stop is the dressing station, which has brand name clothes, character clothes, accessories such as couches and shoes and purses, and anything else you can image, including tents and strollers. For the birthday party, we didn't dress the characters, we took them as is. The prices are a bit expensive to the tiny bits of clothing (think around $8 for a t-shirt). The kids are usually happy with just the stuffed animal! After dressing them, you can go make a birth certificate, where you name them and put your name in as the owner. Then, they total up all your add ons and you pay and go home with your new friend in a cute little box home. The birthday party was pretty cute, but they don't have a party room or anything, so it's more like corralling the little ones around to each station. They try to play games with them, like Simon Says and Hot Potato while they stuff the bears and get their birth certificates, but the whole process took about an hour for 7 kids 3-5 years old from start to finish. The party mom gets to make the choice on a limit for each bear, which will determine if they can get accessories. Great little souvenir of a fun trip if your child is a lover of stuffed animal friends, and/or if they enjoy dressing them up. read more

Promised my kids I'd take them today to spend their gift cards from Christmas... I checked online and it said they close at 6 so I told my kids we can go... we arrive at 5:25, there are a few people checking out at the register but there is a giant sign blocking the door. I cracked the door and asked if they were open... the young ladies behind the register ignored me a couple of times before saying yes we are open. I went to the girl that was sweeping and asked what time do you close she said 6. I look at my phone at this point it's 530 on the dot.... so I asked the young ladies at the register if they think it's a good idea to have a sign blocking the front door... I told them it's a hazard that people have to walk around a giant sign to get in and especially with small children. She told me that they are trying to close up I said 30 mins before you close? She told me yes because it's hard to get closed on a Sunday.. smh that's pretty crazy to me. Is there even a manager on duty or is that the manager telling me they do this to get out on time.
