Ben & his assistant Chris remodeled our kitchen totally and two of our bathrooms in part. Ben had several great ideas for removing some kitchen walls that concealed gas and water lines. He also had experience with venting a microwave outside (as required by an inspector) even though the kitchen had no exterior walls. They brought the kitchen wiring up to code. While tearing down the kitchen, they kept a vigilant eye out for hidden problems, made recommendations and handled the new issues on the fly. Additionally, they rewired our 1970's vintage townhouse, which had crappy wiring from the beginning. Running a hair dryer could easily cause the breaker switch to flip off. (Unbelievably there was one 15amp circuit, with way too many outlets and lights: 2 bathrooms, 1 master bedroom, the living room and outside patio and balcony lights.) Ben & Chris were able to split this circuit into 3 circuits, now we DO NOT have to flip the circuit breaker switch every day or so now. Instead of preforming some hack job (like other contractors suggested), Ben trouble shot a "mystery" light switch in our dining area (that appeared to have no functional purpose) and some outlets & exterior lights that had no power. (We bought the place in 2017 so we didn't know exactly what had gone on. The home inspector noted these issues, but he did not know why they were that way.) He found that the previous occupants had clipped a 3' section of wiring that delivered power to outlets and lights upstairs and a dimmable ceiling outlet (which was also removed by the previous occupant. Maybe that was their way of solving the problem of the 15amp circuit breaker - mentioned above - from flipping off.). Had another contractor performed their hack, then that would have worsened the problem. We intend to have Loughrin construction do future work like replacing the fireplace to install a gas one and redo the bathrooms the rest of the way.

I received an updated invoice today saying invoice is now due today. Perhaps the original invoice was a typo, if so, the owner MUST inform the consumer of that mistake and agree to the changes. They can not make a unilateral change without notice. As a consumer, you have every right to question what was done and how long a job took. I ask everyone this, if you have a truck snow plow, does it take 1 hour to move the snow on the end he of the road that leads into a driveway? Doubt it. Again, readers of this review, you decide for yourself. I never have any problems of paying invoices, but when I feel I'm being over billed I will request for full validation and justification. Again, I have used James and his services for over 4 years so I was a happy customer until this recent event so this is not a fake review. ---------------- I'm updating my review based upon a recent dealing with this company. I call and requested a one time plow after the storm. I've attached before and after pictures along with the invoice I received. Long story short, very dishonest in how they conduct themselves. James is the owner and he's stretched way too thin. He has this business plus a real estate company. When I received the invoice, it was for 2 individuals with 3 hrs of work plus one individual for a snow plow for an hour. I might be completely off base, but I'll let readers of this review decide for themselves after looking at the pictures if it warranted 3 hrs of work by 2 men and 1 hour of work by one other man with a plow. I emailed James asking for validation. His response was...."Ive already given a $5 per man hour discount". I wasn't asking about a discount. I wanted validation. If they did do 3 hrs of work, I don't mind paying. I replied back to James asking for validation. His 2nd reply, "​We dont do these neglected snow removal accts at all. I was reluctant because they are basically layers upon layers of ice. That is why we bill per hour​". To my readers, it was close to 40deg on Friday, and yes there was approx 24-30 inches of snow piled up, but the underlayer was not completely frozen. I replied to James and said I will reluctantly pay the invoice and post on yelp. His unbelievable response...."We're sorry for that you're upset about the service you received we will discontinue all business with you in the future per your request thank you." I'll leave it all up to the readers to decide if they want to do business with a man and his company who can't even validate the work completed and is willing to brush off a once loyal customer. I will never use his services again.

I could not believe how fast he finished my condo. It was amazing. Some of the things he helped me with were: *Assembled all my furniture and moved it into place (couch, multiple beds, night stand, garage shelving) *introduced me to electrician, cabinet maker, window people and did all the interfacing *Dump runs *painting * Fixed a pocket door *sealed pine doors * leveled out a toilet * fixed caulking *etc. I would completely recommend him to do any type of handy man projects.

Not only was his project plan comprehensive and pricing competitive but we just got a really good "member of the family" vibe from him. It's such a leap of faith to trust someone with an asset like a house but we are so glad we took that leap with Rob. The project included flooring, every inch of electrical, modified interior framing, insulation, complete kitchen, complete master bath reconfiguration, half bath refresh, sheet rock, trim, painting and the occasional psychotherapy session when we encountered a few surprises along the way. Rob was patient, kind, thorough and had a crazy eye for detail. One of the things that really set him apart from other general contractors we've worked with in the past is the quality of subcontractors (electrical, plumbing, tile, etc) and how closely he manages those critical resources. If he says countertops are going in on a Thursday, they are going in on a Thursday. The process has natural lulls - Some weeks, there was a lot happening at once, and other times things stalled a bit, partly because I was busy with work and kids and couldn't always stay on top of it. Rob was always responsive and transparent, keeping me in the loop at every step. Final Verdict: I highly recommend Alpine Builders if you're looking for a contractor in Tahoe.
