DONT GO TO JENNi FOR YOUR HAIR. She got my entire head effed up. I had k-tip extensions put in a month ago and HALF OF THEM HAVE SLID DOWN and half of those have fallen right out. I look horrible and I'm scattering to find someone to fix my hair before my wedding. I don't agree that this is a place for 65+ only... I know many teens and adolescents who go here specifically for hair colors! They, especially Natalie, and another girl I completely forgot name of, take their time and also listens to customers needs and are really up to date with colors and techniques. The more popular places seems to fade in that area after a while.... So kids go back here where they know what they get! For updos and styling kids tend to go somewhere else and for eyebrows to another place but for colors, it's Bukes. Also, the facials are great!!! read more

I've been going to this salon for 2 years for cut & color. Have been reasonably satisfied (I was previously living in Los Angeles and knew no one here). I phoned last week to set an appt, at which time they told me that Oksana's prices had gone up 40%. I told them I had just lost my job and could they "work with me". Oksana phoned me and cited "cost of living increases". I booked anyway as I don't want to have to start over again with a new hairdresser. I got a call the next day cancelling my appointment and they told me they no longer wanted to service me. I was absolutely dumbfounded, stunned and hurt. I have never been "fired" by a hairdresser in all the years I've been getting my hair done (and there are many). Insensitive, rude, elitist, in my opinion. read more

Sorry to do this to ya Bukes, but really not a great experience on my haircut. I have this thick thick THICK red hair that needs to be layered a few times a year to look neat. I am new to Chicagoland, and took my friend's recommendation that this was a great place. I needed a cut sooner rather than later, so took the first appt available. I don't want to name names, but this person's haircuts cost $85. They reminded me of this when we were on the phone for the confirmation, so I assume she's one of the higher tier hairdressers. $85 for a cut is NYC pricing, which I don't mind paying, but for that money, I expect a GREAT cut. I showed her photos of my hair with the layers I like, described for her exactly what I needed her to do... she kept making faces, acting like what I was asking for was too much for her to do... finally she asked me on what type of scissors they usually used. She kept stopping when the hair looked nowhere close to being done and asking me if it were done, I kept explaining what I wanted, there was still work for her to do when she asked me if that was enough and I just caved to end the experience. With tip it was about $100. Listen, I get that not every haircut is going to be amazing, but what bothered me the most is that this hairdresser truly made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. I went to Buke's this morning to use a gift certificate that I received for a spa manicure/pedicure and hair cut. I was very impressed with the service and the atmosphere. Some salons tend to be either freezing or boiling; the temperature in here couldn't have been more perfect. The manicurist I had was Violetka, and I HIGHLY recommend her. She is sweet, quiet and very VERY good at what she does. Since a spa mani/pedi is supposed to induce relaxation and calming effects, the fact that from the moment she began working on me I was near sleep was amazing. She worked very quickly and efficiently and I can't get over how nice and clean my nails look, not to mention how soft my skin feels. My stylist was Gail and again, I highly recommend her. I went in with a big ole' mess of hair that was in a slept in bun and she pulled it down, listened to my gripes, worked with me to create a workable and attractive style and got to work. I told her I still wanted my hair long but I wanted it to be healthy and she did just that. She is very attuned to the desires of her clients and aims to please. I don't think that I have ever gotten a haircut that from the moment I walked out, I was 110% pleased. My only regret is that this salon is extremely high-priced for my budget, but if you can afford it on a regular basis, it is more than worth it. I will stick to treating myself on special occasions and hoping for gift certificates, but my experience couldn't have been better. read more

This is a great salon if you live in the area. I received a gift certificate to this place and went on Saturday for a haircut and a mani-pedi. My stylist was MaryKay, who was great! She listened to what I wanted, gave me some suggestions. Suggested using a flat-iron on my straight hair, which I'd never heard of before. She styled my hair with the flat-iron, and darn if it didn't look fantastic - very, very polished. So who knew? They aren't just for curly hair types! My nail person was Nina, who was wonderful. You get a shoulder massage with your manicure. That was worth the whole trip! The prices I thought were very reasonable, but I'm used to Chicago prices. i would totally go back to MaryKay for my hair on a regular basis if I lived closer... but the drive from Chicago is a bit long. read more

I went to Buke's today for a haircut for the second time. The salon itself large - with a second floor with more chairs available than is apparent when you first look in. The stylish and thoughtful details such as a wash station chair with a foot rest was impressive. They use Bumble and Bumble products (which smell amazing!) but no doubt add to the middle-upper cost of services. My stylist, Aundrea, has been incredibly patient and gentle with my thick, curly locks and has done a great job cutting just the split ends off my hair (which many stylists don't seem to know how to do...) and fixing my layers with no pressure to make changes. Definitely recommend her, especially to my curly peers! read more

Had such a great experience here last weekend! First, the salon is beautiful and very modern, the decor is great and really inspires relaxation while you're there. The staff are very professional, and it seems like the business is run very well. My entire experience from booking a reservation to checkout was seamless. I made an appointment with Ashley C - she's such a sweetheart and does an excellent consultation. She gave me highlights and a cut, I love it!! The color was perfect (I wanted ashy blonde). She also managed to give my extremely fine hair an incredible amount of volume, something I could never achieve on my own. She explained the products she was using in my hair and how I could use them to achieve the same look that she was giving me. I will definitely be returning to her!! I also had my brows waxed by Vilma - she is new at this salon but she was so sweet does a wonderful job! She was extremely meticulous and the result was amazing. Love Bukes...I come here for nails, waxing, and haircuts. The salon/nail area/spa rooms are always very clean and feel fresh. The furnishings are not spectacular or very dramatic, but they give a nice clean look and feel to the spaces. Pedicure chairs are super comfy, and the basins are always clean (i always see them cleaning when a client is finished too, it's comforting to know they are on top of that). As far as pricing, they don't seem to be any more expensive than any other quality salon/spa I've been to. Sherry does my nails and always does a great job--I can tell she pays a lot of attention to the details, and will redo a nail if she doesn't think it is perfect. I see Natalia for Brazillian waxes. She's great, and super quick--which I love, because who wants to deal with that kind of pain for any longer than they should, right? I just started going to Jessica for haircuts. I hate to say it because she's so sweet and she does a good job, but, I've never really been overly impressed with any haircut (from any stylist) so I'm probably not the best person to give a review on a hair stylist--I like Jessica a lot though, and I love that she uses products on my hair that dont make it oily (I have naturally oily hair, and no stylist has ever used a product to counteract that until Jessica), so I will definitely continue to go to her for cuts. Oh and you can book online, which I LOVE! I deducted a star because it is totally annoying that you have to pay cash for tips (you cannot add tip onto credit card). I NEVER have cash, and I am usually super busy until the exact time of my appointment, so I don't have time to go to the ATM. So when my service(s) are finished, I don't have cash for a tip, and then I have to keep track of who I still owe a tip so I can pay them next time, and then i feel bad that I didn't tip them that day! Maybe they have a good reason for not allowing tips to be added onto cc's, but it totally bugs me... read more

For waxing: Do not go here. I had the worst waxing experience of my life here. The room was (and the thermostat stated) over 80 degrees, which is not exactly conducive to a bikini wax... I've had other services here that were fine, but this really disappointed me. It's quite expensive for what you get. Unfortunately, I do not think I'll be returning--at least for waxing. read more

A little spot of heaven in the western burbs! I've been going there for more than five years and have always been pleased with my cut, manicure, pedicure or wax. Yes, they can be expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for, high quality service in a serene atmosphere. I've seen several different hair stylists over the years at Buke's and each of them have been great. I always feel relaxed and glamorous when I leave. Also, I love that Buke herself is on the premises often, usually taking care of a client. New to the area and my old hair dresser moving, I found Ashley C on Instagram and liked her pictures, and her coloring was similar to what I was hoping to achieve so I made an appointment. Not a lot of availability so I had to make a hair color appointment Friday night and cut Saturday morning which was no big deal. It was a cool little place with personal spray tans, mani/pedis, waxing, and the color and cut upstairs. Pricing on the website was 90+ for full highlights and mine was almost twice that so emphasis on the +, and my basic trim was 65 when website said 40+. 215 for cut and color before tip is more than I've ever paid, but Ashley did a great job. They don't take tips on the credit card so I just brought cash for my cut the next day so it was no big deal. Overall I'm very happy with my experience but I definitely went in thinking I was getting a steal on pricing, so just keep that in mind. I'll probably keep looking since $215 isn't in my budget for regular cut and colors, but if I can save up I'll be back. read more

I can't believe no one has reviewed this salon. It is a great, bustling salon and nothing, I mean nothing is bustling in Clar. Hills. I've seen about 4 different stylists here and keep coming back as the service is fantastic, $ not too over the top and they offer me wine! I've been to several stylists and some are really good, some are fine. But I stopped going altogether because of two things. First, the prices just don't seem to have a ceiling. I went to a woman for a while and it seemed like every time I went to her the price had gone up $5. It adds up. I had enough after a couple years of these price increases. Second, they don't allow you to tip on a charge card. They gave some silly excuse, but all the other salons in the area allow it. I had my hair colored yesterday for the first time...and I am not young. And I had a very specific style that requires a talented stylist. It didn't go well yesterday. It was nothing like I expected. I was pretty upset because I had all natural hair and I felt I ruined it for a style that I didn't like at all. I called the salon and the wonderful owner, Buke herself called me and asked me to come in the same day. She and her wonderful staff not only fixed it and made it exactly what I wanted, they brought in snacks for my son during the treatment and gave us the best service you could imagine. Buke, who runs an amazing business, made sure she saw me before I left to ensure I got the results I wanted. The staff could not possibly do more to ensure client satisfaction! beautiful spot. living in the area, i've comed to buke's for many services including: - hair cutting - hair styling - mani - pedi - facials - waxes they do a great job. they have within the last year expanded up into the second floor and it looks beautiful. to be honest, none of their employees judge. there have been days where i've come in being a mess. just after having a bad day and i'm like I NEED A PICK ME UP stat and they supplied just that. i have to give julia and natalie a little shoutout as they were my hair girls for a few years and they are both very personable and very stylish. trust them with your hair. yesterday, i went to have my bikini wax with longina. she did a good job and was very detail oriented however her lack of talking was relaxing minus the fact that there was nothing to distract me from the pain. Very happy! I really wanted a smoothing treatment for my hair and after much research I decided on the Coppola treatment. Christina was recommended to me and she was wonderful! She really listened to my concerns, she explained everything to me, and she did a wonderful job. The cost of the treatment covered the treatment on the first day, 1 1/2 hrs. Then after four days of curing, a return visit to wash product out, a trim, blow out and shampoo plus conditioner to use at home. It's been three months and my hair is great! Christina has a darling personality and was a pleasure to be with. The salon is very nice and clean and the staff was super nice. I couldn't have asked for more! read more

I'm seriously afraid to give this place another 5 star or people may think the reviewers are friends with the owner but its a really really great salon. For those of you in the western burbs who have wanted a "one stop shop"- cut, color, massage, wax , pedi etc but haven't found what you wanted in other salons, this place does a good job of giving you everything. Its also a certified bumble and bumble salon/seller which means the stylists go through extra training to use the products correctly, get tips on new styles etc. I get my hair cut and colored by Lacy who is super-professional, has great technique and will work with you over a long period of time to get the look you want if your hair/layers need to grow out, fixing other problems etc. She recently gave me a "lob" - just like gwenneth and eva- and I get many compliments!! She's also not super pusy on products but will make suggestions if you want them and will also take the time to show you how to style a new cut- and not just do it so that you get home and can't recreate it. Its not a super cheap place though but they do offer a rewards point program where for the amt of $$ you spend, you get points towards future services. I've redeemed my points a few times over and its a nice relief to take some $$ off your services. I haven't really used other stylists for cuts or colors so I can't review anyone but Lacy. I also get prenatal massages from Kevin. He is very comforting and isnt afraid to give some pressure to a pregnant lady! Theres nothing that bugs me more than going for a prenatal and they're afraid to touch you. I know there are pressure points they have to go easy on but you're also paying to feel better- I like a little digging! He uses a special preg bed w/ the hole in the middle if you want it. i'm giving this a 4 out of 5 b/c I wish their spa was bigger but they do a good job keeping things private when you get a service. read more

I used Bukes for hair and makeup for my wedding party and we all loved working with the Bukes team! The staff knows what they are doing for bridal hair and makeup-- they have bridal packages that are easy to customize and the stylists were very responsive to our needs. For parties of five or larger, they will provide snacks and drinks and let you use the back room of the salon to relax in between appointments, creating a much-needed calming atmosphere the morning of the wedding. I have always jumped from salon to salon, because I simply was not satisfied, until I found Bukes. First of all, it is so beautiful inside, even when it is crowded, it seems so peaceful. I have had several services from Bukes, and they are all top rate! I love the cuts and color I get ( Heather M. is my stylist), the stylists really spend a lot of time listening to what you want, and suggesting what will work best for your hair. Needing a pick me up I called Burkes to see if they could fit me in. Immediately I was impressed. They squeezed me in for a cut and when I got there i asked if anyone had time for a color too. They were completely accommodating. Both the stylist and colorist did fantastic jobs and I left feeling wonderful, my hair looked great and I realized I had found my home salon.
