Great haircut and service. Good prices. Simple place, no frills. I just got my best haircut in a long time for $62 instead of the usual $100 in the city. Plus they don't require you to give your credit card information to schedule an appointment. So Dara is the person who cut my hair. She seemed to just not be happy and had a stank attitude and I saw her making faces at the other girls while blowing drying my hair. It seems like she was not used to dealing with thick, latina hair, but that's not my problem. She started off by saying my hair was "too" long and was unfriendly. She took off a lot of my length and because I know my hair will grow back I'm not that mad. However.... This grown ass stylist did not put a LICK of product in my hair. No heat protector, no gel, NO PRODUCT anywhere... if I would've known that she was that lazy, I would have just gone to GREAT CLIPS instead b/c I KNOW they would've done a better job. I've never had such an uncomfortable experience like this. 10/10 would NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I have been going to see Erin A at Salon Hype for the last few years and I would highly recommend her. She always knows what to do with my straight (boring) thick hair and she did an amazing job with an up-do for my wedding. All my bridesmaids and other members of the wedding party got their hair done and they all looked absolutely fabulous! The stylists knew what to do with older ladies hair, young teenagers and everything in between. I used to go to the La Grange location but I Love the new Oak Brook location even more! I brought my mom here as a Christmas gift and was excited for her. I told the stylist what my Mom wanted (color wise) and she confidently said she could do it. After putting the hair in foil, she apologized and told me she needed to head to a Dr. Appt. Awkward. When the process was done, the hair looked almost identical to the way it did when we walked in. Problem was, the stylist was gone. Ross, who I had not yet met, heard that I wasn't exactly thrilled with the results and chimed into the conversation. Not having been there for the consultation, he told me that I shouldn't have expected a new look so quickly, because it takes a few times to go lighter. What he didn't know, was that my moms hair was already pretty light when she walked in and that the hair literally looked the same. I told myself I would never go back. After a few minutes another stylist must have talked to Ross who didn't understand why I left feeling so upset. They asked me to come back to fix my moms hair. I came back and was told that what I wanted to do required more blonde and would be more money. I don't know why this wasn't done right from the beginning. Money wasn't a problem. At this point I was annoyed because I came back to pay more money. I didn't feel like saying anything about It because I didn't want my mom to feel bad. If they really wanted to do damage control, they would have fixed her hair at no cost. After reading so many awesome reviews I decided to give this place a try & I am so glad I did. The salon is super cute & comfy with a touch of glam. The staff were incredibly professional and attentive & checked multiple times to make sure I was comfortable or asked if I wanted coffee, tea or water. I wanted to go super blonde and told my stylist Jordan that I wanted to walk out feeling fierce. He looked at some ideas I had from Pinterest and asked me about my hair routine so he could tailor my color and styling to my needs. I asked for Balayage with Rachel and I showed her pictures. $150 (before tip) later my hair looked exactly the same as when I walked in. No dimension whatsoever, no softened line between roots and highlights, brassy and boring. Rachel was very nice but my hair looked NOTHING like the pictures we looked at together and NOTHING like the balayage we talked about. Just a total waste of time and money. read more

Erin did a great job cutting and coloring my dark hair without using bleach! Her balayage looks very natural. She loves cutting curly hair and you can tell she loves her job and takes her time. I had read great reviews about Morgan and I decided to try her out after an OK experience at my last salon. It was the best experience I have ever had at a salon!! I was very nervous before my appointment (like shaky hands and everything) and she made me feel so at ease. I went here because of the glowing reviews but I made the mistake of bringing my kids for their haircuts. This is a salon for adults. It's beautiful inside, scheduling a time was hassle free, it appeared to be clean, and the staff was mostly friendly, but I just wanted an inverted bob for my daughter and it became such an ordeal. We were there so long and someone else had to step in to finish a relatively simple cut. I was also asked a few times how I wanted my kids hair, and then when I said what I wanted, the stylist basically disagreed. In the end, she maintained artistic integrity and was very professional in saying the cut I wanted for my daughter wouldn't lay right if she cut it, so a colleague jumped in and was done within ten minutes. My daughters hair is adorable now. Unfortunately, when I combed my sons hair out later at home, there was a huge uneven patch. I'm sure they do amazing work for adults, but it's not a place to bring children. That was my mistake, and while it's great that they try to maintain unrealistic customer expectations, it's really frustrating having a stylist try to talk you into something that's better for them and not necessarily what you asked for. In that short visit, I was told this cut wasn't age appropriate (she's 4), that it would bubble (she has straight hair), that she wouldn't sit (she did! For a LONG time), and that I would regret it (I don't). If something is beyond your skill set, as a stylist, I think it best to admit that and let someone else take over, and that's what happened, so there was a resolution, I'd just never return. read more

My dream hair cut was finally made a reality by Salon Hype but not without going through some minor setbacks. I bought a Groupon and easily made an appointment for the next day. The salon located in the strip mall across from Costco (and next to Devon Steak house) is beautifully appointed, clean with a serene minimalistic decore. I was greeted promptly and presented to my stylist. She did a marvelous job with my hair color adding some beautiful highlights that I truly love. The hair color used is ammonia-free and Salon Hype uses Kerastase products, yummy! Unfortunately, my stylist was not as skilled with haircuts. She listened, but in the end, I was not happy with my haircut. I thought to myself -- that I would never come again. As I went to pay, I was asked by the receptionist how I liked the services and I told her that though I loved my color I really did not like my haircut. As soon as she heard, she called the manager over and both insisted that I reschedule to have my hair cut to my liking. I did not want to -- but after much insistence. I came back -- and I'M SO GLAD I DID! I love, love, love my new haircut -- so much so that I'm making this my new salon. Can't say enough about how much I LOVE my haircut and Salon Hype. read more

To be fair, this happened last summer so it has been a while. I went to Morgan after finding her Instagram. I've been looking for someone to do an ash blonde balayage in the area and her work looked really good as did her yelp reviews. I had also purchased a groupon for a haircut and booked both a cut and color with Morgan. When I met her I was a bit surprised that this is the person with all the rave reviews. She seemed very out of it like she wasn't quite awake. She also told me that there was no time for a haircut with no apology. My color looked EXACTLY THE SAME as when I came in. I've been coloring my hair for over 20 years so know that lightening takes a few times to accomplish however there should be some progress with each appt. It was disappointing walking out spending a couple hundred dollars on nothing. The reason for the 2 stars is there was a guy there, I wish I got his name, but he saw me blow drying my own hair (as Morgan asked me to do) and jumped in and did it for me.
