I went to the Bull Moose for lunch. The bull moose is a rustic lodge and saloon in Alpine, Wyoming. They have reasonably priced food. Service is slow but it is Wyoming and we tend to have a laid back sense of life. The burger I ordered was pretty good and the fries were also great. Would love to review the food, but after sitting at our table for a full 20 min without a server bothering to even take a drink order, let alone a food order, we gave up and left. My friend and I arrived around 5:45 and were able to get a seat immediately. I ordered the fish and chips. It arrived as a whole piece of fish, large, sitting on a bed of fries. It looked delicious, golden and crunchy. After a few bites, I noticed a taste that wasn't fish, more like flour. I realized that the batter was not completely cooked on the inside. There was a lot of batter on this fish. I think this is better served in smaller pieces, so you can handle it with your hands. I used a fork and knife just to scoop the fish out of the batter. Once we entered this establishment we knew this was a local saloon people from Alpine Valley frequented. It has a large bar area and restaurant section. To the side, there's a liquar store that stores many different kinds of liquor and beer. We bought Huckleberry Vodka ( uckleberry is popular in Wyoming) and some Absinthe not found in L.A. Calif. We tried their pizza which was pretty good and their philly cheese which I didn't care for. We decided to take our food back to our RV since the crowd was a bit loud. LOCALS ARE UNHAPPY THANKS TO NEW MANAGEMENT Used to be a great spot, even just a few months ago was still pretty good. We live behind the moose and go all the time. The moose we knew had many options for burgers, tenders and wings. Burgers were so delicious and they had some great options. They're gone. I don't think they can use the excuse of it being a waste of money to have those options on the menu since a lot of the things weren't perishable and were popular anyway. The new bull moose has undercooked chicken on their chicken sandwich, a premade likely frozen burger patty and prices that have absolutely skyrocketed. They used to have gluten free bread for the people that can only eat that, that's also gone. The options are now slim and crappy. Most of our friends have boycotted because of the crud they're doing to this place. Crappy to see one of the few spots in town go downhill so quickly. Maybe new "management" should start listening to the complaints they're receiving so they can revert things back to how they used to be, their parking lots been empty since we all got a taste of the crap it's turned into. I stayed at the Bull Moose hotel September 26. What a mistake. The toilet filled up almost overflowing, and we could not flush it. The bathtub filled up with 4 inches of water and still was not drained by the morning. The room was filthy. There is no hotel lobby. The bar is the lobby. I tried to check out in the morning and the bar was locked. I left my keys in the room hoping that is what they expected. The bartender was too busy making drinks then trying to check us in. I would sleep in my car instead of staying there. I called the lady and talked to a supervisor asking for some type of compensation. She said she would call me either way, and never did. The beds had craters in them. It was very hard to sleep. read more

I had to wait for a waitress to check me in. When leaving, the "office" wasn't open and there were no instructions on where to leave the key. I ended up taking it back to the room and leaving it inside. At $200+ I would have expected a lot better!! Also, beds were too close together, bedside lamp didn't work and shower curtain needed some bleach. One bottle of water for 4 people after water restriction. Altogether, the place is unorganized. No more barbecue on the menu, the Alpine salad is gone, the French dip is gone, the bison stew is gone, the nachos are gone, the cheese sticks are gone, most of the comfort food is gone. Prices have increased. If you order a hamburger, everything you want on it is an additional cost. Multiple Korean style foods are now on the menu, pastas, and seafood. There are a number of red meat options. It appears they are trying to attract a dining dining prices. I ordered the chicken salad was lettuce you seem to come out of a bag of iceberg that included carrot shreds in it. I couldn't find the wontons and cucumbers and tomatoes on my chicken salad. As locals, we will certainly be frequently the Bull Moose a lot less often than we used to. Please bring back the old menu. read more

Loved this spot. Good people, good food and has an overall good Wyoming feel to it. It was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area. Service was excellent. They accommodated my annoying gluten allergy very well with no issues. Next time I would choose medium rather than medium rare. It was still good just got cool faster. A little rare but every restaurant is different. French fries were so good. Everytime we asked for a side of something it came back within a minute. Impressive! Nice spot. My work crew has been coming into the Moose for years. Now they changed the menu no more affordable lunches and they don't have my crew's favorite hamburgers which the Moose has been known for now for years. After a long day's work I treat my staff to burgers and beer. The menu has been changed to one hamburger a frozen patty at that an extra 4 bucks for bacon and an extra 4 dollars for mushrooms making this over now a 28 dollar burger lol wow. They haven't had even our beer in weeks. How could a place turn on their own community that patronizes this place with an overpriced menu? It's not a fine dining establishment or if they were going to that they could fix up the broken down tables. Times are tough right now for everyone, but they had a reasonable menu. Why raise it to prices even not seem in Jackson ok if you go to The Gun Barrel quality meets the standards and price. I was shocked when they finally had a great menu and it changed to an overpriced menu. Remind you all of this food comes in frozen . So how can the Moose turn on its locals and charge 39 days for so called handmade meatballs. They are delivered frozen and the cost is 19 dollars a bag. Not impressed at all. We were told to go ahead and take a seat. There was not a sign anywhere that started "a to be seated". We found a table. Sat for about 10 minutes and not acknowledged once. Only used the lodge. Towels were a little thin. Room itself was clean and of a decent size. Room ac worked nicely. No refrigerator in room and no ice machine on any floor. Ice problem resolved by walking over to saloon and getting some. No smoking allowed in rooms or outside (rooms are all direct entry from the outside balcony) however we had some construction workers smoking outside their rooms about three or so doors down. Mostly quiet with just a hint of road noise. Saloon looked nice and kitchen is open till 9:00 pm. After that you can just order appetizers. Would return and try the restaurant. Nobody cleaned our room yesterday. All the garbage cans were full, even though, we took anything larger to the dumpster. I guess that was because we were checked in on the computer for only one day, although we checked in for two and payed in advance for two. Last night we returned after 11 after visiting the National parks. We were locked out of our room. As you know, it took awhile to let us in. In the meantime, my son and I stayed outside our room--close-- as there were two dogs in a truck barking and growling ferociously. Also, the bedspread and the shams are disgusting, I wiped the spread and it was greasy--body oil grime. Most places fold the blanket or comforter in another sheet or lightweight cover if they don't plan on laundering regularly. You are not a bargain rate establishment. Why are your services and facilities mentioned and many not mentioned so bad? Because the front desk is where the bar is, I got to see that too, and it looked like an episode of bar rescue. As I said, we were locked out because they messed up our reservation so we were able to note that at 11 o'clock all the employees were drunk, the two women that were there left. Vacationed in the area for a few days, wanted an easy convenient dinner close to our rental house and options in Alpine/Irwin are very very limited. So we were pleasantly surprised at how good the restaurant at the Bull Moose Lodge was. Visited during early evening mid week. Seemed very family friendly with large tables and even a game room with arcades and etc. Read other reviews that it can get a little rowdy later in evenings and during karaoke but we did not see any of that. Good selection of menu options, everyone in our group loved what they ordered. Nachos, fish n chips, shrimp po boy, burgers. Our waitress was great. Decent liquor store connected to the restaurant and lodge. Really enjoyed finding a local place with great food. Would definitely return and recommend. read more

Understand that this is a local place ..... but they handle lots of tourists coming through. The indifferent service and matter of fact attitude was evident. My burger was cod on arriving so I sent it back, mistake! I waited so long my husband was almost finished with his food. So disappointing-they used to have the best beer battered fish and chips but what was served a few nights ago wasn't anything like it. Dried out fish that didn't taste like cod and the "beer batter" was terrible. Plus the Alpine salad dressing changed and wasn't good. I guess we're going to have to scratch this place off the list.
