Had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant while traveling to Jackson on business. First impressions aren't always lasting. The service was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make you feel at home. I ordered their smothered oxtails, Mac n cheese, peas, cornbread and peach cobbler. Everything was good. If I could I would give this a 0 rating. Ordered the combo rib plate.(beef,pork). Only got 2 pieces of ribs. 1 each which had no meat just a lot of sauce and grissel and skin. The side was too small. I did not get full at all. The waitress was rude also. Moved my drink on the table to where she thought it should be. Just reached over the table and said no no I don't want this on the floor. The coolest thing about this place aside from the fantastic soul food is the building itself. It is old, rustic and literally frozen in time. Tasty soul food in this awesome hole in the wall. The food here is delicious. The portion sizes are great, the service is quick and friendly. For 3 meals, 3 drinks and a dessert the total was 32. This is the best soul food I have ever had in my whole entire life!! I'm from Saint Louis and was on a bus-trip with 40 others and everyone would say the exact same statement! They were also able to accommodate all of us with not only amazing food, but spectacular service. If I lived in Jackson, I think I'd eat her every other day! I had the Southern Fried Catfish -- oh myyyy was it cooked to perfection! Fresh fish with crisp and when you bit into it, it melted in your mouth. I also had the fried okra and corn. OK, this place is defiantly a hole in the wall...but guess what that is where you get the best food & service. Each time I pass through Jackson MS, I make sure I stop at Bully's, the food OMG!!! The service is so warm, everyone (even the cook) will come out to talk to you to make sure your visit is good & ask if you need anything else. The serving a plentiful & the price is very moderate. We were driving from New Orleans to Chicago and decided to stop at Bully's for lunch. The roads to Bully's were full of pot holes, and the area looked dilapidated. We were having second thoughts about going there. However, once you get there, you will find that it is well worth the trip. The staff is super friendly. You feel like you are dinning in someone's house. The food is out of this world amazing. We had smothered oxtail and smothered pork chop. And they are incredible. The sides were just as good as the main entrees: mashed potatoes, field black eyed peas, green beans, and collard greens are all the best that we have ever tasted. Challenged parking. My wife had oxtail, corn bread dressing with gravy, okra & tomato soup. I had pigs feet and pork neck, fried green tomato,corn bread dressing, corn bread muffin and peach cobbler. Very friendly service, I asked for ice cream with the cobbler, they didn't have any, she was nice enough to add whipped cream, and melted butter for muffin. I had pickled pigs feet as a child, never fresh. I loved everything. Mario Battelli and Anthony Bordain talk about pigs trotters in Italy. I had always wanted to try it, but I never found it until now. Both our entrees were covered in wounderful gravy. We discovered Bully's when we brought our daughter to grad school at MC. When the other reviewers said it is in the "hood," they are telling the truth. But wow is the food amazing. It was a true experience. We didn't think it was dusty, just old. I ordered oxtails, candied yams, mac and cheese and fried okra and was not disappointed. The rest of the family ordered fried chicken and various other sides. No one was disappointed. The tea was amazing. True "sweet tea." Our servers were classic "southern" women who got a kick out of my hubby (originally from California) who has never had oxtails or neckbones before. I want to say our server's name was Dede. Very friendly people (especially Bully himself was really welcoming), great Southern food, and a good opportunity to get a glimpse of local life. Oh, and all at a great price! I had the liver with mashed potatoes and the best green tomatoes we had so far on our trip. My girlfriend went for the fried chicken. All really delicious!
