Made to order Fried Chicken with Fried Squash, Spicy Collards and Corn bread!
    Michaela C.

Stopped in heading back to Texas and I am SO grateful I did! The owners, Tyrone and Greta, are so welcoming. The story behind the restaurant is incredible, and the food they serve up is even more incredible. Based on other reviews I read, I knew I had to try the fried chicken. They make it fresh to order and it's well worth the wait. I enjoyed reading various publications hanging on the wall while I waited. The fried squash! OH MY GOODNESS!!! I would seriously drive back just for that! When you are in Jackson, this is a MUST! I'll for sure be back when life takes me out that way. I'm truly grateful for the entire experience of meeting them and enjoying their delicious cuisine.

I am so full! Collard greens, Lima beans with fried okra, home made corn bread and lemonade and the best fried chicken in the world! Mississippi soul food! Oh and that big chunk of meat is pigs feet! Will be back in a few days to try the rest of the menu. But super friendly, top tier service, and best soul food in Mississippi! Ambiance is exactly what you would expect for the type of quality and food.

Honestly such a life changing experience. the food was phenomenal and the service was even better. I loved being here it was so welcoming- it's truly an experience that transcends just eating that makes this place so so special. You can truly feel the history and soul in the space and it seeps into the food. Easily my favorite place we ate at while visiting the South!

Pig feet, fried okra, greens (cabbage), corn bread

Absolutely amazing quality of food and customer service. A James Beard award recipient for a reason. We came all the way from California to eat the best soul food in the country, and this is it. We had the smothered pork chops, pigs feet, sweet potatoes, greens (we chose cabbage), fried okra, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. We're Vietnamese, and we have pigs feet in our cuisine. But we've never had such fall-off-the-bones pig feet before we came to Bully's. The skin and tendons were so tender and extremely flavorful. Pork chop was tasty. All the sides were fantastic. We have to come back to try the oxtail. We had the honor of meeting Mr. Bully himself. If you have a minute, read the framed newspapers on the wall to learn more about the history and legacy of the restaurant. A true vision of the American dream. Thank you Mr. Bully! We will see you the next time we're back in the south!

The food was okay. The sweet potatoes were good, the pork chop was very tender literally fell apart with my plastic fork the Mac n cheese was okay not the best I ever had. I loved the sweet tea! The service was great southern service. The ambiance was just like someone's home. Wasn't bad it was nice to support a local business while passing through.

I was on a hunt for some good soulfood and this place was nearby. It had been around for years but this was my first visit. I ordered the oxtails, mac & cheese, & collard greens. The food was ok to me.

My husband and I ended up in Jackson, MS on New Year's Day because our flight in New Orleans back home was cancelled, and we decided to drive back home instead. While I was driving to Jackson from New Orleans, my husband looked up soul food restaurants and found Bully's. We were excited to try this place and support a local family owned restaurant. The staff was really sweet, however it did take them a few times to figure out our order, but our order was accurate. The food was delicious. I ordered the beef tips and had both of my sides be their greens. My husband had their cornbread, their fried okra, Mac & cheese, and greens. We both inhaled our food because we were so hungry, and I had skipped lunch. We would totally come back again, and I'd recommend Bully's to anyone in the area looking for some authentic soul food in the area.

Welp the reviews were right, the food was excellent!! My order in order was taken in a professional manner. Customer service was perfect, they made sure my food was correct before leaving restaurant. Inside seating for dining service if you wish. We had the catfish with greens, mac & cheese, fried okra, and corn bread. All the food was seasoned well. The food was delicious, fresh, and hot! I will visit again when Im in town. Best meal in Jax, MS!!

Vegetable Plate with Cornbread: purple hull peas, squash, mixed greens, and tomato/okra stew
    Sharon S.

The truest definition of a hole-in-the-wall....but I happily frequent it every chance I get. Lately, I've been getting the veggie plate and cornbread. Y'all, let's start with the cornbread....it's literally my favorite! As a bread lover, I can ( and will) eat three muffins at a time! The tomato and okra stew has a hint of spice...now, sometimes that "hint" is a full blown drop kick and punch though but I just sweat through it because its truly delicious. The greens.....OH MY GOODNESS....I always get the "mixed" greens and they have never disappointed! Truthfully, all of the vegetables make me wanna sign up to be somebody's big momma and see if I can cook that well! The smothered chicken is also divine. I usually get two legs fried and they put their gravy over it. The fried fish is pretty good too! The seasonings are perfect, but if you're looking for real catfish, this isn't it...it's definitely Swai. My only complains are that the serving sizes have gotten smaller and smaller over the years and that one cornbread muffin is not included with the plate. BUT HEY...I'll continue to buy this kids meal container and pay $0.50 for cornbread.....because it's just THAT good!

We ordered liver with onions, potato salad and candied yams. Beef tips with rice, candied yams and fried corn. Rolls came with both meals.

We enjoyed our meal at Bully's. The staff was pleasant and extremely friendly. The food was great with nice portion sizes. The ambiance was relaxed. It felt like being around family.

The ribs were cold, which took away any chance of enjoying them the way they should be: tender and piping hot with that kiss of smoke. Without that, it was just tough meat on a bone. I will say the rub was flavorful, but it couldn't help the toughness. Also got a beef sausage with onions and while the snap of the casing was pronounced, the insides were cold and bland as well. Barbecue sauce is usually the soul of a place like this, something that tells you the story of the pitmaster and their craft. Here, there was no story, just packets of Kraft BBQ sauce. It felt impersonal, like the heart of the place was missing. The sides didn't step in to rescue things either. The potato salad and baked beans tasted like they came straight from a grocery store container, unseasoned and uninspired. When the main event falls flat, the sides should at least give you a reason to come back, but they didn't. I wanted this spot to be a hidden gem, the kind of place you recommend to friends when they ask for local flavor. Instead, it was the kind of meal you forget as soon as you walk out the door, and that's the real disappointment.

The location was decently decorated and seemed to be clean and it wasn't too noisy for our table of four to eat and have conversation without competing with neighboring tables overall, a fantastic experience, price and value were definitely good. After looking over the menu, I was impressed with the selection of meat and vegetables included in the buffet, more than similar Korean buffets I have been to. I also liked the number of available sauces to further season the food. Service was fast and efficient. We were seated quickly and our drink order was taken and filled shortly afterward. Staff was really friendly and helpful when we had questions. Soon, our order of meats and veggies arrived and the cooking began. The containers tend to take a fair amount of space on the already small tables so keep that in mind if you order a wide variety of meats. We had to stack the containers as we cooked the meat but the server removed them pretty quickly. One really neat feature of the tables I enjoyed was a plate warmer at each seat location, at least in the booths. That helped keep the cooked meat warm while waiting for the other cooking food to complete. Very nice touch. I will definitely return the next time. I'm in town.
