Kitschy, yes, but despite that the food is genuinely spectacular…read more Bratwurst was super flavorful and cooked perfectly with a caramelized outside, a good snap, and a moist inside. The pretzel bun was heated appropriately and had the right amount of flavor. The optional spicy mustard is really powerful. My only possible complaint would be that the spatzle were a bit on the soggy side, perhaps overcooked. That said, the spatzle also come with an incredible sauerbraten gravy. My only regret, really, is not having had dessert.

Lots of nostalgia here for me, as my family always loved to make the hour-ish trek here when I was…read morea kid...and I feel like it's held up well to those memories after a recent visit when I was in the area. Atmosphere is fun, it really embraces the German decor (saw a review or too calling it kitschy, in a good way, which I think is a fair description). Service is friendly and attentive (and in the costumed German garb to keep with the themes). Lots of classic German dishes (several schnitzel varieties, brats, spatzel, etc.). I won't say anything I've had over the years blows me away, but haven't had a bad choice either. The Wiener schnitzel I had most recently was tender and tasty, with a perfectly fried batter, and the German fries were nicely crisped on the exterior and beautifully seasoned. Good beer selection (including some brewed for the restaurant), reasonable wine list...love that you can go all out and have your beer in the classic giant boot! Small gift shop as well, some souvenir items as well as some candies and food options.

Offer up to kids meals and they serve up interesting fries with your choice of seasonings. There are nacho options, burger options and lots more. Highly recommend a BLT and they do not skimp on the B part.

Ratings in Huntingburg are way overblown. The only good things we had were the water and the…read moreburger. The burger was a little overcooked but it still had some juiciness to it, and it was a generously portioned patty decently seasoned. However, the wing drumettes were poorly prepared: burnt on the outside and the insides were dry and tough. The sizes of these wings were quite large, and the flats were succulent and falling-apart. The Jamaican Jerk sauce on the side had some spice to it, but was overly sweet in a high fructose corn syrup kind of way. The ketchup, too, had high fructose corn syrup as the second ingredient, so not good at all. Apparently very few items are prepared from scratch. The fried were soggy and undercooked, whilst my wife's sweet potato fries were waffle chips, dry and tasteless--they should be wedges, not waffle cut. Aidan, our server, was attentive but not obsequious, although he didn't seem to know what cumin was (there was a strong, yet pleasing scent of it as we entered). Our total was $36.36. The music was unpleasant and kinda loud 70s head banger.
