This is my second visit to the 'we Boston Tavern. I came (both times) with a group on a retreat to St Mienrad. It is a close drive from St Mienrad. They have a fairly good selection of standard American beers and a few crafts to choose from as well. There is outdoor seating in the back - we're we sat. I asked the waitress to make my selection for me. She selected the Signature Burger - something on the menu, but they will make it when they are not too busy. It was very good. A bacon cheese burger with fried jalapeños and pepper jack cheese. The burger was good, the German fries were good too. Many people in my group had the pork chops. Had breakfast yesterday here for the first time. Decided out of the blue to try their cheese curd appetizer. They were DELICIOUS ! A light garlic flavor. Country fried steak was fresh and tasty. Steak sandwich had a lot of tasty juicy steak. Then we went back at 6 pm. Pork chop dinner was really good. Huge green bean plat came with it and German fries. My two side choices. My husband and I are from out of town and stumbled upon this place late at night. The atmosphere is great and the fried chicken is so home made and fresh you'll think your granny fried it lol. We decided to head over to New Boston for breakfast, and wow. One order of the double breakfast, one order of ribeye breakfast. Steak arrived just as ordered medium rare. I have been to this country restaurant over the past two years and have been pleased with food and service. Yet, last evening was a complete disaster. I was seated at a table with an unknown liquid dripping from the ceiling in to my table. I moved myself to another table and informed the server, who subsequently seated a family under the drip! My second table was drafty and cold. I have always loved the fried chicken, but when I attempted to order it was informed by the server that it was not available. So---I ordered my second favorite dish---a pork chop. The pork chop arrived with two sides---German fries and cole slaw. Even with a steak knife, I was unable to cut the chop---it was tough as leather! I informed the server and was told that "it happens", and that the dinner would be taken off my bill. No real apology. Later, I found that there was fried chicken, but carry out orders were taking all the chicken from the dining room. This was a Saturday night! Planning and preparation? Ok--when I went to pay my bill, the server tried to charge me for the German fries and slaw----wait a minute! I protested, and she did finally comp my meal. What a disappointment overall---I am probably not returning to this place....too bad. read more

Casey is right...a hidden gem! Not so hidden for locals mind you. After living here for 6 months, I lost track of the amount of times I was told to try this place! Everyone brags about how great the food is, so we finally made a point to go. Now mind you, it's not "out-of-the-ordinary" when it comes to food type. It's what they eat in So. IN...pork tenderloins, fried chicken, mashed taters, green beans soaking in bacon, yadda yadda. So don't expect to come and get any type of turkey roll or sweet potato fries, etc. What you do need is some time and huge appetite!! The amount of food they serve you is outrageous!! My husband, son and I could have eaten my fried chicken dinner and still would have had left overs. My son ordered the popcorn chicken with fries and onion rings and each food came with its own plate...large plate! Seriously enough food for an Army. My hubs ordered the pulled pork and loved it. All the food was incredibly tasty. Like I said, it's popular with locals, so you may stand for a while waiting for a table and while you do, don't expect anyone working there to acknowledge you until it's time to seat you...AND you're basically standing and waiting in the middle of the restaurant, which is extremely awkward given that everyone there is starting at you trying to figure out how you fit in to the local gossip network. Luckily we're new! Once seated however, the waitresses are fast and friendly. Popular on Friday and Saturday nights for their bar as well. The New Boston Tavern is quite famous in its region for lunch and dinner, but breakfast is excellent too. Everyone in the area seems to know it, so there can be crowds and a bit of a wait. But it's a very friendly place and it's a nice place to be waiting. Very good, solid Southern Indiana breakfast food. Not a whole lot of sausage in the tasty biscuits and gravy, but the triple-size sausage patties on the side made up for that. REAL fried potatoes, something that gets harder to find all the time. After spending a hot day at Holiday World, my girlfriend and I were looking for some good eats before driving back to Nashville. Thank goodness we found this place. We were lucky enough to get the last table before the wait started so we promptly sat and were greeted by some very nice waitresses who made us feel at ease even though we were clearly not part of the local crew. Like other had said, if you're waiting, your'e doing it either at the bar or standing, and I can get how that might be awkward, but that's what alcohol is for. The place filled up very quick but the woman behind the bar made sure people got beers, swiftly, while they waited. We both got the mixed (white/dark meat) 1/2 chicken with coleslaw. I got german fries and my GF got a baked potato. The slaw was excellent and hearty. We waited a bit for our chicken and potatoes, but we're not complaining. It was obviously made fresh while we waited and came out hot and delicious. The portions were large but we had worked up quite the appetite at the park. It was clear that everything was homemade and fresh. The German Fries had the taste of a well seasoned griddle and the chicken was crispy and made for great finger licking. The sweat tea, like the local charm was bottomless and if I lived anywhere close to New Boston, I'd be there on a regular basis. read more

I was told to go to the NBT when i moved to southern Indiana 5 years ago. After my initial visit I have planned my week around dinners there ever since. The outside grill is only used Thursdays thru Saturday but there is a daily special every evening. You can't beat Taco Tuesday. Rick and Brian grill the best pork chops you've ever had. They also do prime rib, rib eye steaks, pork steaks and ribs. My wife prefers the salmon that is grilled to perfection. Barb and the kitchen girls provide delicious German-fried potatoes and other sides in huge portions. The service is friendly and the waitresses are the hardest working team you will ever find. This includes Sharon, Jennifer, Beth, Darlene, Kelly Sarah and Rachel. It is small and popular so don't expect to eat and run. There may be a wait to be seated on weekends but it is worth it. The food is served hot once you've ordered. They also serve the best breakfast around on weekends opening at 5:30 am, earlier if it's the start of hunting season! read more

After waiting and trying since August my wife and I finally got to visit the New Boston Tavern restaurant. We had sampled the food prepared there at a wedding reception for the owners Niece. The chicken and all the food was outstanding. I fell in love with the salad and house dressing. I was blessed to take some home from the reception giving to me my the owner. So I had been waiting approx four months to get back to that dressing. We live about 80 miles from the restaurant, but we drive to Henderson ky (123 miles) to invite my son, beautiful daughter in law and grandchildren to dinner there. Drove another 1 hr to the restaurant. Quant little building, small clean and every table filled. Got that friendly, you are not local look from people enjoying their food. Decided to eat on the outside tables as there were at total of 8 of us. Dec 12 approx 66 degrees out side. We were attended to immediate by a most friendly and efficient waitress. Now to the food. What can I say the house dressing and salad alone was worth the wait and drive. No little cup or we tell you how much you can have, but a squeeze bottle with all you desire, I was in heaven. It was just as good as I remembered and then some because I was sharing with family. We had the prime rib from heaven, the pork chops, German potatoes,green bean, turtle soup magnificent Cole slaw and several other all wonderful dishes. All I can say is there are no words to explain how good this food is. Everything was so very well prepared and every bite was a burst of flavor even when you got filled. Then the real shocker, the finally bill for eight people with dishes like prime rib and turtle soup and double pork chops with sides,salads and drinks. I'll put it this way, the young lady must have thought I was crazy, asking if she was sure she had not missed something because that surly could not be that low of a price for all of that food. I've paid more than that for two at a chain restaurant. I felt so blessed and happy with the food and service, I put the extra of what was thought I would have paid on the tip line of the bill.
