We walked in at the same time as a couple of locals and we were a party of 4 at almost 3:00 in the evening and the 1 waitress gave them menus as we sat at our table right next to them. I would have tried the food here, but the bad taste of indifference and being ignored left a horrible taste. Visiting the area we saw this restaurant and decided to stop. While waiting for 10min for someone to come seat us or direct us to which room to sit. We saw two gentlemen stocking the buffet. One wearing a grey t-shirt and the other wearing a blue shirt. We saw each other multiple times and nobody was alerted or came forward to talk to us. Not being from here, and never being ignored by restaurant staff I was not sure of proper etiquette. I asked my wife if I should try hog calling to get someone's attention. My wife thought that would not be classy and would bring ourselves down to the restaurant's rude behavior. If you are from out of town traveling and hungry, I suggest you choose any other restaurant. If you follow the road towards Santa clause or keep going into Dale there are plenty of restaurants, Even Denny's which was very friendly, seated us right away, smiled at us and didn't ignore us for ten minutes. So in conclusion, I can only guess that the staff was either lazy, feckless, rude, or a combination of the three. They don't want your money, so give it to a business that can use it and wants to provide friendly service to earn it. read more

The service was fantastic, and the restaurant is actually owned by one of my family's old classmates. It felt like I was having dinner at one of my aunt's places. This restaurant is an excellent choice for an area with limited dining options. Our food arrived quickly, even though there were over 15 of us there for a family gathering. The Chateau was a perfect pub near the St. Meinrad campus to stop in for a bite before we hit the road. This was a locals bar on one side and a locals restaurant on the other side. Simple, homestyle food options with low prices. The waiters seemed to be the bartenders and food runners. They know pretty much everyone who walked in the door. A great stop if you love low key, hidden gems and want something that makes you feel like your mom cooked it. We will be back! read more

What a great place to eat and hang out with friends! One side is a nice Resturant and the other is a bar. The bar reminds me of Cheers. I am from out of state and met my friend here for dinner.. He told me this is the local hang out. He recommended the Chateau burger and it's mouthwatering just thinking about it now. I also had German fries and some cocktails. In an area that has just about every fast food chain and loads of pizza restaurants you can imagine this place was a bright star. The menu is typical pub food. They have a full bar. Everything is fresh and the specials are what you should order. They also have a buffet menu and salad bar. There was a sign that said "please register with hostess. " I waited a very long time. There was no hostess. With the combination of screaming children and no hostess, I decided to try the bar side. I took a seat. Again waited and waited. I was seen but never greeted or even acknowledged. After waiting again for a very long time, I bailed. This place has been in business for a very long time. Excellent Resturant and great food. If you are looking for a place to eat after leaving Holiday World or staying at Lake Rudolph this is the place. It is close only 3 miles away. It's hands down better than anyone in the town is Santa Claus, IN. This is my 7th time to Santa Claus, IN and Lake Rudolph and I wish we found this place years ago. The Brick oven Pizza place is absolutely disgusting don't waste your time or money go straight to The Chateau. They had a full menu from burgers to steaks to chicken wings. The menu at this place looks great but unfortunately we ended up leaving without service... We waited about 20 minutes to get a table even though nobody was in front of us and there were plenty of tables to sit at. Once we did sit down we waited 10 to 15 minutes for a server to come and one never did... They were severely understaffed... The one waitress was working so hard but she just could not keep up... Excellent little hometown restaurant and bar! We were on vacation and asked several Holiday World employees where the best place to eat was and they all said The Chateau and their faces lit up. They even stayed open for us when we called and said we were on our way but would arrive right at 9 when they close. The "Chateau Burger" was recommended to us, and it was delicious, with an incredible piece of meat on it. Also of note are the German fries and fresh salad bar that featured a delicious homemade chicken noodle soup the night we were there. This family operated restaurant was recommended by a local hotelier - as the best in the area. It was a very pleasant little place with a dining room and a bar room. We were struck by the pleasant demeanor of all staff - from the owner/manager to the young waitresses. We were served by all, including the bartender. Both my wife and I commented about the effusiveness of the waitresses who clearly appeared to enjoy their work and one another. Not busy when we were there, but very accommodating. We found our experience taking place in a clean, well run establishment. Decent, though not overwhelming selection of beers. We eschewed the buffet in favor of the a la carte menu choices. Poppers were your basic deep fried version from a frozen bag, I'm sure - good enough and the order was 7 or 9 poppers in an order. My wife had a basic Ham 'n Cheese sandwich and it was just that - a basic sammie. French fries were good. The waitress waxed effervescently about the Chateau Burger when asked for a recommendation. It was as advertised - a juicy, flavorful 1/2 pound cooked-to-order burger topped with bacon and the usual suspects. I'm a lettuce-tomato-mayo guy so it hit the spot. I added the German Fries which were equally exceptional and the Cole Slaw which was both creamy and tart - again, well described by our waitress from Monkey Hollow. Not exactly upscale food, but they're not trying to be. Good basic, downhome, unpretentious food. After a day at Holiday World and Splashin' Safari, we left happy, fat and sassy. read more

Came in with low expectations due to the few customers. My appetizer, mozzarella sticks, were incredibly average but not bad. But my main course, a chateau burger with a side of waffle fries was both very affordable at about $6.25 for the burger and $2.50 for the side of waffle fries and amazing tasting. It was easily one of the best burgers I've had in a restaurant in a while. The interior was very homely and comforting and the staff was very kind. If you're in holiday world at lake Rudolph, or even just in the area, I'd strongly recommend coming to the chateau.
