We have been here twice in the last few months. The beer is cold! Both times we split the two piece catfish dinner for $16. The portions of fish is great. They came out hot and delicious. We ordered mashed potatoes and green beans for our sides again both excellent. My son ordered the spinach, artichoke dip. I'm not sure what those chips are that we dipped in it but OMG. It was worth licking the bowl. We will definitely be back to our neighborhood restaurant. read more

From Oct 23: Tonight date night was at The Frontier Restaurant and Bar. This was our first time trying it, and it vastly surpassed our expectations. We started with the fried mushrooms. The portion was huge - easily a pound or more of mushrooms and each mushroom was also huge. They came out piping hot and breaded to perfection. While I probably would have preferred more of a horseradish sauce, the ranch dressing served with them is house made and some of the best I've had. We both ordered the 1/2 chicken platter - his white meat with green beans and creamy coleslaw, mine dark meat with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. Again the portions were huge! The chicken was absolutely the best fried chicken we've had anywhere around here. The green beans were perfectly cooked (not cooked to mush like most places here do) and very tasty. The mashed potatoes and gravy comes with choice of white or brown gravy - I obviously chose brown. The potatoes were creamy, gravy was tasty and well-seasoned, but not overly salty. The coleslaw was very creamy and sweeter than I prefer, but still good. Everything was house made, in fact the chicken is breaded and fried to order so be prepared for a 20 minute or so wait if you order it. The interior of the restaurant is understated, but comfortable. Our server, Matt was fantastic. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, but he was definitely hustling. But he was also very attentive and friendly and let us know about our order status frequently. He also anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. Drink refills and to-go containers appeared like magic. The exterior is a bit deceptive. The sign gives the impression of a Mexican restaurant and the building doesn't look like much. Another case of don't judge a book by its cover. Prices are quite reasonable. Our meal came to just over $40 before tip, and we have enough leftovers for at least another meal or two. We're very happy with this new-to-us find and will certainly go back to try more menu items (if we can overcome the temptation to always get the fried chicken ). Update: We ate there again last night (12/11) and it was just as good! He ordered chicken again, and I had a ribeye. The chicken was just as good as we remembered. The ribeye was great - well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. It was nearly butter-knife tender and full of flavor. I also really appreciate that the server waited while I cut into it to make sure it was the temperature I wanted. read more

Have gone three different times, each time the food tastes amazing! The service is usually quick but they were short staffed one day and it took over an hour and a half for our food. Considering the other times we've gone this is out of character. Definitely recommend! read more

It was busy but they only had one waitress taking care of tables on the bar side. Mushrooms had a light coating and we very tasty...a little too salty for me. We got the two catfish fillet dinner to split. The catfish were generous fillets but the didn't have tartar sauce! The hush puppies we not greasy and were light with a very good flavor. Sweet potato fries were cooked right and had a crispy outside and tender inside. My biggest complaint is waiting for a box and the bill for 30 minutes!!!!!! read more

Very clean restaurant. Staff was very good at letting you enjoy your meal but still checking in on you. I had the baked cod with creamy cole slaw. Both were above average compared to other places. Been going here for years and loved the food and service. Recently it changed ownership and has gone way downhill. Half the time they close the kitchen or the wait is an hour( unacceptable) to get your food. I don't know if this is a management problem or a staff problem but the new owners need to get it together and get it fixed or you're going to run a one skid business into the ground. read more

Drove from one side of town to the other only to find out the kat the advertised Bloody Mary bar didn't exist. And the Bloody Mary's themselves are NOT worth the money or the drive... the drink sucked and if I wanted spicy I had to add my own Tabasco sauce because they said they could add it because the mix is pre-made. That makes no sense due to the fact you can supposedly pick which vodka you wanted why not throw the Tabasco in at that mixing point... read more

My family/friends had an absolutely awful experience at this restaurant this weekend. To make a long story short, I was screamed at and hung up on by both an owner and manager when I called to complain. I was also sent a very nasty message from the owner. My husband and I thought the food was yuck. They also brought me potato chips dumped on a plate(which is fine) but it was all the crumbs etc from the bottom of the bag. All u could do was laugh. . I have never tried the bar side but have heard that it's very good. read more

If I could give this a 0 I would! Thought I would give this place one last try but never ever again! Worst food I've ever eaten. Husband got a burger that was burnt to a crisp, three bites of it and he refused to eat anymore. Taco salad was a bag of lettuce with two table spoons of meat. When I asked about the other toppings that were shown on the menu, was told they don't carry those toppings. My daughters chicken tenders were hard as a rock and we showed them. When we complained about the food the waitress told the owner who never came to talk to us, and they discounted 5.00 off the check because he ate three bites from a garbage burger and a few onion rings! The waitress agreed it looked burnt, the cook came out and tried to tell us a hamburger still cooks when it's taken off the grill. Ground beef doesn't cook from medium to charred after it's taken off the grill!. Meanwhile the young employees stand around laughing and loudly talking about us complaining. Every review I see says horrible customer service and food and the owners and staff seem to blame the customer instead of taking responsibility for their horrible food and service. The only thing keeping this place afloat is the fact that there isn't anything else in Daylight and it has a decent bar. If it wasn't for that this place would be closed. It takes a LOT for us to complain about the food or service, but never in my life have I ever been told after refusing to eat that garbage that we were still going to be charged for eating 3 bites off of a burger and 4 onion rings. They have a new menu and the food is fire! Their tenderloin is the best I've ever had. It's huge and can easily be split in to two meals. Their fried pickles and mushrooms are homemade and delicious. This place has classic bar food. Great food, good company and fun bartenders and staff. read more

It's your typical restaurant / bar that is a haven for "regulars." Years ago, when I lived in the general northeast side of Eville, I would come here solely out of convenience, and fear of driving too far after an evening of power drinking. I didn't come here because the food is great, or they offer some sort of unique drink menu. No, I came here because (pre Uber) it was a safe bet that I could make it back to my house, and at times, the bar was very entertaining. To be fair- the food here is decent, or definitely above average, but still bar food, nonetheless. But, what made the Frontier (mainly during the old ownership; hence the new name: "New Frontier") stand out, was simply the entertainment provided by the staff. Seriously, where can you go, and a female bartender gets drunk on the job, and starts making out with other female patrons? Uh, the (old) Frontier, possibly. In fact, I looked at my friends, and proudly boasted, "I'm going to hook up with that girl." I made good on that promise. Side note: that was a short lived few weeks, or so, of confused, drunken bliss. Many years later, I'm glad to see that the "New" Frontier still resembles the "Frontier." The "New" Frontier boasts a minimal upgrade in cosmetic appearance, and it seems to be an actual...you know, business these days- not a sorority party. The service was efficient, and spot on. Not to mention, $5 pitchers of Coors Lite. Sold. It seems like the northeast siders still dominate the place, but in a more tame manner. Ah, memories. Yep, I'll still return, next time I visit my hometown. read more

I get it. These people are trying to piss off their customers, so they can burn the building down and collect the insurance money. NEVER in 53 years, have I had such rude service. Old hen...maybe late 50's-early 60's waited on us. Zero personality. Rolled her eyes when I asked for another napkin ( gave me ONE with an order of wings). Never asked how the food was. She looked at my American Express card, and just said "we don't do American Express" and left. Just and old sour Woman. Ordered hot wings and a burger. Wings were no doubt pre-cooked, frozen from Sams club. Terrible. Burger...well. Might have been the cheapest pre-formed patty they could buy. The Saturday Brunch is a solid American style breakfast. The Bloody Mary bar is huge! In town for a family thing, this is the place we stopped for dinner. One side is a bar, the other is a family dining room, which is where we were. I asked for a list of local selections they had on tap and got a blank face in return, so nothing really local about this place except the Brain Sandwich. Awful experience each time I have visited. The staff are not friendly at all. They make you feel like they just want to get you out of the bar rather than provide friendly customer service. They tend to care more about their regulars rather than the common customer. At one point this place was a great neighborhood bar but it's went downhill. If you showed up at the Frontier for craft beer, gastro-pub food and a Maitre D' to wait on you, you picked the wrong place. If you want above average bar food, or a steak dinner and a pitcher of Bud Light for $5, you hit the jackpot. I read a lot of negative ads about the service, it really just depends on your timing. This place is busy during the typical dinner rush. Other than that, the service is usually great - hat's off to Kasi, who always keeps our glasses full. They usually have 8-10 drafts to choose from and a cooler with a lot of other beer selections. There is a dinner special every day that will give you a chance to save a couple of bucks. We love the weekend bloody Mary bar and also the Tuesday night trivia - complete with prize money! This place has both a bar side and a family side, so they can cater to every party. We are by no means locals, but always feel welcome when we go. read more
