We saw a mama elk and young feeding in the grass. We got some snacks and stood in a long queue to pay. The wait was not bad. We enjoyed our snacks with other visitors on a bench outside.

I was not sure about coming all the way out here because my original itinerary had me taking the…read moreroad on the other side of the park. However, I fortunately was informed by rangers that Bunsen peak (close to mammoth springs) was a better choice than the original trails I was gonna check out (they were still covered in snow!), so I came here because it's just minutes away from the Bunsen peak trailhead. I'm so glad I did! The formations of the hot spring are SO interesting, one of the coolest areas in the park in my opinion. The colors are lovely, and the path is very accessible (it's a big wooden boardwalk, like how the thumb geyser basin area is). There are a number of steps but parts of the path are flat/wheelchair accessible. There is sporadic parking throughout, and a lot of turnover so I got a spot reasonably easy. There are maps posted all throughout the area so you can walk the whole thing and not get lost. Overall, I would highly rec a visit to this area for anyone visiting Yellowstone, it's really cool and I've not seen any other natural springs before that are quite like it. 10/10!!!

Keep your eyes peeled. + Thank goodness for sufficient well-maintained restrooms. ~ Initially when I saw over 5 ppl lined up at the single vault toilet at the Upper Terrace Lot (X77R+PP Mammoth, WY), my heart sank. Since I really needed to go, I drove 5min farther north to MHS' other bigger parking lot, and huzzah! Enough restrooms to go around for everyone! (X7FW+X7 Mammoth, WY). + And about the bullsnakes or gopher snakes fighting, I'm glad they were doing it on the thermal ground, not on the boardwalk. Don't bring your pets, and watch your kids. Pets have died wandering off the boardwalk, and humans have suffered 90%-body severe burns following suit. Lotta aptly named palette springs here. Nature is wondrous!

The Albright Visitors Center was the first exhibit we went into on its own. We loved the many educational and descriptive and historical displays. We went for part of one day, but wished we had time to go again. *Museum of the Yellowstone - there's a small fee to enter. We didn't go in, but we did walk along the front to view the vehicles, buffalo and bear sculptures. Nice small town with plenty of things to do before & after visiting Yellowstone National Park!

But thus, if you're trying to get on to this street, you gotta carefully look all 3 ways farther down (not just left and right, but also across the street if someone else is also trying to get on to this street); don't have any red lights to hold the traffic for you, like at the Electric St intersection.

The Mammoth Terraces run along two sections of west upper Grand Loop Road, south of downtown…read moreMammoth You drive southwest from the center of Mammoth, and when the road turns south, the terraces start just outside of town. You cant miss them, all white and frosty-looking for half-a-mile along the west side of the road. There are parking areas and trails. Then the road leaves the terraces, and after another half-mile, the road takes a hairpin turn north and comes back to the terraces. Take the turnoff to continue north for more trails and a great overlook! Or stay through another hairpin turn on Grand Loop Road and continue south through another half-mile of terraces. I mention this location because as of Aug 2026, Yelp placed the terraces in the middle of the town of Mammoth, and you cant see the terraces from there.

The limestone rock formations and water features are very cool. The trail isn't overly long so you can make the full loop in about an hour or so (two if you're a slow walker or likes to stop a lot for photos). Parking can be a challenge, like most other popular spots at Yellowstone, but just be patient and eventually you'll find a spot.

The book selection is extensive and the staff are friendly. It's a huge library with many places to sit, relax, and read a book. In my travels, I have walked…read moreinto a laundromat just to turn around and walk out as the places were dirty and had horrible smells. The North Entrance Wash Tub is so clean and smells great. I didn't see any machines that weren't working, and when I checked the inside of the machines, there was no funky smell. They do have shower facilities, but I didn't bring my stuff to use it. They did appear clean along with the restroom. There is a change machine so you don't have to worry about scrounging up quarters, and there is a machine to purchase small amounts of detergent, etc. There is also wi-fi there that worked great! In this area, wif-fi is not the best, but it was great at North Entrance Wash Tub. Please note that their hours at this time are 6am - 10pm, seven days a week. And they offer fluff and fold services if you don't have the time!

Times 10. the first interaction was back in 2023 when I went on a trip to Miami. I came back to find out my car had been towed, and it cost $2800 to bail it out after 4 days of storage. Absolutely unhinged. Then 1.5 years later, I got a ticket on the same vehicle in front of my house (which was off Babcock so high traffic and police presence). It said I had 3 days to move it. At the beginning of day 2, my friends came over to help me move it cuz I needed a jump and it was semi snowed in. This awf excuse for a company showed up day 2 and began to try to hook up. I called the cops, the cops told me the dude is just trying to do his job, nothing they can do, and they managed to tow it. IT COST ME $780 TO BAIL IT OUT 2 HOURS LATER!!!!!! I contacted the city officials about both situations and was told they have no say in the process this crooked company charges cuz they're the only ones with the space to house the vehicles. MORE THAN $3500 IN CHARGES FOR 4.1 DAYS OF STORAGE. I've never been more disgusted and irate in my entire life. I'm a Montana veteran, pay my bills and taxes, and this situation was one of the main reasons I moved. Though they'd prefer that anyways, Bozeman has become a millionaires paradise, all other peons can fall to the wayside. Bozexam has become a disgusting representation of what a city should be. SHAME ON BOZEMAN AND TOW ZONE DESERVES THE ABSOLUTE WORST KARMA!!!

Maybe the most colorful pool in the Park!…read more Viewed from the Overlook, The Grand Prismatic Spring had such dramatic colors: deep blue in the center, then going through the rainbow to a red rim. It's a vast 300-ft across. You get the best view from the overlook. The colors are wondrous just as they really are. Many of the photos we saw before are amped up with increased vibrance and saturation, which really isnt necessary. We got to the parking lot around 10am on a weekday. The parking lot was completely full, so we waited around 15min for enough cars leave for those waiting to get spaces. This was the place where we wished we had gotten an earlier start in the morning. It was about a 15-min walk from the parking lot to the trailhead. From the trailhead, it was about a 30-min flat and moderately-uphill 3/4-mile boardwalk, finishing with another quarter-mile up a rather steep hill with no handrails or rope-guides. Then there were ten steps at the very end up to the viewing platform. Some of our group could not manage that hike, which is why i took one star off of this lovely view. The Park is pretty good at setting up access without harming the park or the experience, so we'd like them to figure out something here. Even railings and benches would help a lot.

Better view on Fairy Falls lookout though. -- Sooo crowded. Had to do 1-2 loops around the parking lot fighting for parking. And it's early morning in the middle of the week on a non-holiday! Don't even wanna imagine holiday/weekend traffic. - Few restrooms. ++ The fog from the Excelsior Geyser is mystifying. It covers your entire ambience as you walk along the boardwalk. *ominous*
