Just like another poster said, the information on their website completely different from how they actually operate. I've been here from groceries before and I saw online that they offered rental assistance (I lost my job and still don't know how I'm gonna pay this month rent) So gathered all the documents that they listed were required, I printed out the form on the website, filled in out and gave it to my landlord to complete, got my bank statements and all my other documentation together. (the website just states to drop the documents off in person or mail them) So I called to see if I could come in to drop everything off and that's when I was told, I had to have been receiving other services from them for at least the last 6 months to qualify for rental assistance and also they were not accepting applications until September. SO WHY WAS NONE OF THAT ON THE WEBSITE? Why are there detailed instructions about how to apply and instruction to mail the application without the rest of the information? I EMBARRASSED myself by taking the form to my landlord and having him sigh it all to be told it was for nothing? It's ridiculous and actual insanity that they they don't give ALL the information online. It definitely makes me think they say one thing to get funding... and then tell the community something else. What's your New Year resolution? Perhaps (like every year), it is to shed those holiday pounds. Maybe it is to spend more time with your family. Or, to write more Yelp reviews. Those are all great, but how about instead making an effort to volunteer or donate time/goods to a non-profit organization? They will benefit, you will feel good... everyone wins! The Burbank Temporary Aid Center is more than just a food bank; they are a non-profit providing various services to the poor or homeless such as: transportation assistance, utility assistance, showers for the homeless to get squeaky clean, medical assistance, etc. Plus, of course the much-needed food aspect. Whether you are a volunteer or someone seeking help, the Burbank Temporary Aid Center is at your service. Although I am going through financial strife myself, I had a few food and hygienic items I wanted to donate (donations are taken at the rear of the building from 9am-noon and then again from 1:30- 5pm). I walked into the center lobby, as I wasn't sure where to drop my donations off and was greeted by two women. Even more eye-popping? The facilities! Clean, modern, and gentle; it looked like a doctor's office. I've been to other food banks where you are surrounded by dirt and it makes you even more uncomfortable asking for help or volunteering. That is not the case at the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. Like the rest of Burbank, this is upper-middle class. Donating was quick and easy. There are volunteers available to help retrieve the goods from your car (they accept unopened cans, prepared foods, and hygienic products) and will also write you a receipt for tax deductions. You will be in and out in minutes, and will leave with the satisfaction of helping others. My major complaint is their limited service and attitude. The food pantry area was stocked with food more than my local Ralph's. I'm not talking expired 99 Cent Store goods, I'm talking Trader Joes and name-brand yummy goodies. Way better than I eat! I was specifically told that they only help Burbank residents. No wonder there is so much extra food! If you can afford to live in Burbank, you can afford to feed yourself. With all that extra food available, the Temporary Aid Center should perhaps expand to helping nearby North Hollywood residents. Isn't that what "helping" is about? Furthermore, the employees/volunteers have an attitude problem which really deters from me donating more to their organization. I clearly stated that I, myself, could use some help and they didn't even have any suggestions, merely based on my lack of Burbank citizenship. Furthermore, when calling them on the phone, they were very pretentious and cold in attitude, again merely because I was seeking information but live in North Hollywood versus Burbank. This is NOT in the spirit of giving and turns me off from wanting to donate my time or goods to them further. Sounds like I may have to continue to search for a positive place to donate my food products! Whether a New Year's resolution to help others or you just want to clean out your food cabinets, Burbank Temporary Aid Center may be your go-to non-profit. No matter how many times you go,they'll keep sending you away. No matter how much paperwork you give them, it's not enough. With me they established I was on section 8 and food stamps and still turned me away. You've already established I'm living in poverty, what more do you need? You'll NEVER have enough paperwork for them. I DESPERATELY needed diapers but they don't care. They turned me away. Also they DO have a website but the info they ask for on the website is different from what they want in person. In person they wanted my child's birth certificate; the website does not say that. You'll NEVER get them to help you. They'll just make you make 20 trips and turn you down no matter what. I wish they understood the people they're trying to help. If people are really poor and desperate they might not have all the resources to find every single document from their life from birth until now. And once you've established the person is living in poverty why keep asking for more and more documents? Just to play with them? You're gonna turn them away no matter what. read more

We traveled to LA for a medical consult. We bought too many groceries and wanted to donate them before we left town again. Burbank Temporary Aid Center was happy to accept our donations, including some supplemental protein shake drinks, on the same day that I called. Handing over the food, I was struck by how massive and clean the kitchen area was. I am sure they are an asset to a needy population. read more

Easy to get to location, they have a small parking lot which is great. I went to drop off goods all I had to do was bring them from my car to a table. They took everything weren't picky about what type of goods. Got a receipt for my taxes and whoever was working was very friendly. read more

This place is a joke - except it isn't funny! I have gone there three times now, for nothing. Not even a bottle of water to help me deal with the heat while waiting outside in 90 degree temperatures! I was referred there by another food pantry, as it is closer to where I am staying. The first time, the line was so long that at 11:00, they came out and turned away half the remaining people, as they "wouldn't have time to help them". I came back the next day, and made it inside, but they couldn't process my intake, without me having all of my documents. "Come back Monday, and bring a bunch of paperwork!" I came back Monday, right when they opened. I got in, filled out their forms, and was told I was there on the wrong day, because a friend had allowed me to stay with him, I wasn't homeless... Mondays and Fridays are for homeless people only. Oh, and there are different forms for people with a roof over their heads. I wasted enough money on bus fare that I could have purchased five meals! I wasted 15 hours of my time, that would have been better spent going back across town to the other food pantries; where they ask for your name, how many people you are feeding and hand you a bag of groceries. NO RED TAPE! At least I would have had food to show for my time! Bare minimum, they could use communication training. An even better idea would be to have a web site with their segregationist policies broken down so people know what to bring and when. This place has been a blessing to the community in so many ways that I feel horrible writing this review. I have witnessed on multiple occasions staff members/volunteers disrespecting there clients. I would like to point out that the staff members I am referring to are/is the women that run and manage the front desk. The people that are working in the pantry area are extremely polite and more than willing to help everyone, they do a great job!! Burbank has a large number of people living in poverty and they come here to recieve help and assistance. It's no secret that dealing with the homeless can be extremely challenging but that's not an excuse to treat people horribly. I think it's sad that these struggling individuals must put up with uncalled for attitudes, lies, racial bias or simply being talked down to by the staff. It's sad to watch them do it to others. Like this disabled lady that waited in the back of the line. I had arrived at 9:45am and this old lady arrived about 10min after. There was approx 8 people standing outside inline. After waiting patiently for 1hr + in the hot sun one of the staff members came outside to make an announcement at 10:40am. The line was down to just 3 people left *note: the facility closes at noon and they stop taking in people at 11:30am* She came to announce that they could only take one more person and that we need to arrive sooner to avoid cutoff. They old lady begged explaining her complications with getting there and how much it cost her to get there and still the staff treated her as if she had done something wrong. I stayed quite and waited my turn to atleast talk with the staff and see what other assistance I can receive none food related and they got angry with me for asking for help. The situation was so sad and extremely offensive that the white gentleman who stood outside longer than I did gave up his oppertunity to get food and he made sure this old lady was able to eat. That man was heartbroken and he says to me that he was sorry for what he had to witness. It was almost as if he was apologizing as a white man on behalf of his own people. About 2min later He walks back outside and He said that he doubted the possibility that the only 2 black people left standing outside was a coincidence. The old lady was so happy she started to cry and thank jesus for blessing her. She even forced me to stay so she can give me half of what she got. While waiting she tells the staff lady that last week she was rejected for arriving after 11:30am and again today for no particular reason. The staff replied it takes time to put in your order so arriving an hour early isnt early enough. That's when I decided to document my experience on yelp. They've helped so many people get back on there feet it's a shame that after all these years we now have to deal with short tempered staff who have zero information to assist you with. Few years ago they would post up job, housing and services that homeless people need to help them out. Now you ask about housing or job info they get angry as if asking those types of questions are not allowed. I tried to donate 4 bags of nice barely used clothes, but the person working there refused to accept them without even looking at the bags. He said rudely that because of my height, they wouldn't qualify as adult clothing. My height is 5'3" and I am 27 years old. This is IT for Burbank when it comes to a non-profit that serves those in need. It may be more difficult than ever to afford living in Burbank as a (no rent control) renter or to buy a house, but believe it, there are low income people, some of them living in the houses they bought in the 1950's or 1960's. Burbank is a small city and it known for having some good things for Seniors, but it doesn't have much going for it's residents who are homeless. Because of the relative safety of Burbank compared to the mean streets of skid row downtown, you might be surprised that many people who loose everything gravitate to this city hoping they'll be safer. (I've met several senior citizens living in RV's who frequent the Burbank libraries and a man who used to work for the studios who's in need.) B-TAK offers basics such as laundry, showers, mail, and I hear, ID cards, all essential, but is probably most known for its FOOD BANK which is always seeking donations. (Note im doing research so the 4 stars is benefit of the doubt at the moment) In response to Orsolya: So i'm doing research on the Burbank Temporary Aid Center and notice your rating from 2012. I can absolutely see where you are coming from, making a judgement about the giving nature of the BTAC by expansion to surrounding areas of homelessness, in particular North Hollywood. If I wasn't aware of context I may think the same. However, its interesting to know a little bit of the roots of Burbank and how they got to maintain their own municiple system, soverign from Los Angeles through the depression because of pure community efforts. Burbankians struggled and prospered together, particularly WWII, when families were famished and jobless. Instead of reaching for the hand of Los Angeles City, they started a community garden to sustain their families and independence. Maybe the BTAC is just the motivating factor for you to start the homeless services, or at least ignite the fire in local NOHO city council meetings. They may even collaborate on events with other organizations during the year. You could link up with the LAPD in charge of the newest homeless outreach program HOPE. I don't think Burbank is being stingy, they are self preserving and just trying to handle their community as they have done throughout history. North Hollywood really does need these services for their community and with people like yourself, as I think NOHO has an active vibe now compared to the days of gangs and just dirt. I think the rebuild of the homeless shelter that burnt down fairly recently is within reach! Be well. *BTAC i'm interested in your transparency. Are there any religious ties with your organization? One of the things I loved was that you had your 990 financials directly on the site, however they stop at 2015. In the past BTAC had a different staff and they were wonderful and helpful. Well, the times have changed and now it's very different. I was recently told that I could not receive help with my electric bill unless I went and applied for LA County General Relief and when I attempted to comply that day in order to get help with my electric bill from Lucrecia Rimmer, I was in a car accident on the way to the LA County Social Services. I went back explaining to BTAC that I attempted to comply; but was in a car accident and also would not make it back for a later appointment that day. I now have a damaged car to deal with, and will more than likely will have my electricity turned off. Both Mr. Martinez and Ms. Rimmer refuse to help or even attempt to understand the urgency of the situation even thou Ms. Rimmer knows that I am in an urgent situation. She hung up on me because she did not want to listen when I asked her why shecould not just help me with the bill. Also in the past years during this hard economic time, Mr. Martinez never told me that there are 2 funds for help with electric bills and held back that information from me. Later, a very wonderful lady named Stacey told me that I had not been receiving that benefit and it was available. Stacey is now retired and still volunteers there. If you need real help, ask for her; otherwise who knows what kind of help you will get. read more

The Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) is a very valuable resource for Burbank residents. With the problems in our economy continuing, many people are experiencing financial problems for the first time in their lives. BTAC provides food donated from local stores, residents and food banks. You can get food from the pantry 6 times a year, and food from the government 12 times a year. The volunteers at BTAC are kind, caring and discreet. There's no shame in seeking assistance when you need it. The shame is in not taking advantage all the assistance available to you. Don't go hungry. Come to BTAC, provide proof of residency and get some food. read more
