I finally got the chance to check out Coughlin's Law, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great, and the space was large and open. We visited for lunch with a large group, and our waitress was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. Coughlin's is an easy going brewery atmosphere. The food is good but nothing super stand out. It's a great spot for a bite to eat, meet with friends and enjoy a cold one or just a meal out of the house. It's been a great addition to the Mt Nebo area that has always lacked a modern, good eats menu. This location has a small arcade upstairs that is nice to entertain the kids for a bit. I enjoyed the jerk chicken cheesesteak - a fun twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak. Throw fries are dusted with a seasoning that is good and palatable for children. The beer and the food were alright. Our server was friendly and helpful. The crab rangoon nachos were unique, delicious and crispy. The smoked wings started off well, but just got saltier as I continued eating. The same with the black bean burger for the other diner. A friend of mine recently started work so a couple of us came in on her first day to hang out and grab a bite. I'm not really sure what I was expecting but everything was delicious. To start off we had the crab Rangoon nachos, which were recommended and it was easy to see why as they were awesome, and the fried pickles. Then we all shared the diablo pizza, smoked bbq wings, and the peach bacon burger. The pizza was pretty good, the crust was a little bit doughey but I like that. The wings were delicious, just needed more sauce in my opinion, but it wasn't the end of the world as they were still juicy even without it. The burger was the biggest pleasant surprise. I was going to order the coughlin burger because of the fun smoke but just couldn't resist the peach burger and it was definitely the right choice with a great sweet and savory balance. My husband and I ate one dinner here. The menu listed salads, wings, sandwiches, pizzas, entrees such as pasta and steak, in-house beers, cocktails, mocktails, etcetera. Here is what we ate: Crab rangoon nachos - 4 stars - Wonton chips were covered in sweet chili glaze, large chunks of imitation crab meat (which my husband liked), green onion, and black sesame seeds. Apricot bourbon salmon - 4 stars - The salmon was cooked nicely and was juicy and flavorful. For sides, the mixed vegetables had a bit too much oil, and the brussels sprouts could use more flavor. Chicken cordon bleu sandwich - 4 stars - My husband said that the chicken was slightly overfried and hard, but the flavors from the arugula, onions, prosciutto, cheese, and dijonaise were good. Had a nice late lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Staff super helpful. Hubby accidentally ordered the wrong burger, and they offered to fix it. (He ended scraping off the toppings, and it was fine.). They were supposed to have seasoning, but the fries barely had any and I found none on the chips. The service was bad. Very bad. It took ages after I ordered two samples for my order to be taken. I gave our waitress an empty bottle of jets up and asked for one back. When the table across from us left, I stole theirs. She never brought ketchup. I told her that they should put a bottle on the other table since I had to steal it. Not even an apology for forgetting about us. Hopefully, she'll move on to a better job for her soon. I went with the "French Onion Dip Grilled Cheese" which was easily the best item I've ever had from Coughlin's. Au Jus with a steak and onion filled grilled cheese is a game changer. 10/10 I'll be ordering this again next time I stop in. Also got Coughlin's "All Czeched Out" Pilsner.... Solid brew, very tasty. My boyfriend said the Coughlin Burger was pretty good but the bun fell apart upon cutting but all around it was good. The bar tender was very nice and attentive and the bar was cute. Our group of eight ended up at Coughlin's Law on a random Monday night, because why not roll the dice on a dinner adventure? The evening had its ups, downs, and a lot of sodium--but hey, at least we left hydrated (from all the beer, not the water). Let's start with a major win: separate checks were handled flawlessly. No eye rolls, no calculator math at the table, no "we can only do four cards" situation. That's a rare and beautiful thing when dining out in a group. Gold star. Now, the service. Our server was doing her absolute best while seemingly covering the entire restaurant alone. She was friendly, fast on her feet, and honestly could probably run a marathon in her sleep at this point. That said, we did have to ask for pretty much everything: refills, napkins, silverware, the works. Nothing outrageous, just... all of it. A little backup for her would've gone a long way. As for the food--well, let's just say the kitchen's philosophy leans heavily toward "season boldly and carry a big salt shaker." Wings, burgers, steak sandwich, Reuben, fries--if you're watching your sodium, maybe just stick to the beer list. The flavors weren't bad, just super salty across the board. Speaking of beer: this is where Coughlin's shines. $4 Monday night drafts? Yes, please. Even better a to go $4 four-pack from their cooler of select cans. That alone made the trip worthwhile and might have caused a few of us to consider becoming "Monday regulars." So yeah--service was stretched thin, food was a little overzealous with the salt, but the drink specials were fantastic and the atmosphere was casual and welcoming. Would we come back? Funnel cake with ice cream was very good and held the crisp. Prices looked decent; my wedgie was $13. Very fair. My criticism is their dressings. The one "perfect" condiment for food allergy sufferers is (not creamy) Italian dressing. It's no egg, no dairy, few polysorbates, no fruit, etc.. it's basically vinegar/oil/spices, and it fixes most issues. Kids don't like the veggie? Bam! Italian dressing. Sandwich lacking flavor? Bam! Italian dressing. I could go on as nauseum. I did, however, like the manager who checked on us. This is not a chain and life isn't perfect, but I appreciate the care put into their food. Also, they wipe each individual eating utensil prior to rolling into a napkin for the table. A small but awesome extra step. Ambiance is open concept. I see an arcade upstairs. Payment is awkward as they hold the machine in front of you and you have to select from a 18% or so minimum tip amount, their is an option to do a "custom" tip but that just adds to the awkwardness. Two areas actually - a deck upstairs and a concrete patio on the first floor with corn hole, Jenga, and a huge Connections game. Our server was good and our Smoked Chicken nachos came out really fast. The nacho chips were good but it could be better if they layered on some fixings instead of just putting it all on top. The jalapeños were super fresh and spicy and the pickled onions were a nice punch of acid that complemented the moist smoked chicken. Their espresso martini was not anything like what I've had before. Be warned: they put Baileys Irish Cream and Frangelica in it so it's super sweet and sort of gross, to be honest. Usually, an espresso martini has espresso, vodka, and Kahlua and that's pretty much it. If you like sweet, you will like their version although the Italians I know may have big issues with an Irishman being invited to their martini party. Their Coughlin Pale Ale was decent. I stopped by here this past Saturday night with my wife for dinner. We happened to be alone for the evening and had a gift certificate to Coughlins Law Kitchen and so we headed there. This location of Coughlins is in Mt Nebo Pointe and my wife and I watched with interest as it was recently purpose built for Coughlins. The inside of the restaurant is massive with two floors and space for a couple of hundred people. There are TVs everywhere too and so I imagine it's a great place to watch sports. I had a view of the door and hostess station from my seat and I don't think that there was ever a time people weren't waiting and it's not like they were going slow either. It's worth noting that there were quite a number of kids coming in. For dinner on this evening I chose the birria mac and cheese while my wife went with the orecchiette and added grilled chicken. The menu described mine as birria, mac and cheese, roasted garlic crema and crispy fried onions and my wife's as Pesto Cream Sauce, Garlic, Shallots, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Artichokes, Spinach and Feta. Our food came out rather quickly and my Mac and cheese was luke warm on arrival. Thankfully it tasted pretty good and the cheese portion was creamy and the meat itself was flavorful. The crema added a nice pop of tanginess which broke up the richness of the cheese sauce while the onions added some flavor and a nice crunch. My wife also enjoyed her pasta, especially the sun dried tomatoes andartichokes. Then as I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I went with a sampler here. At Coughlins that consists of 4 of the house made beers for $12. For my beers here I chose the Law's Belgian Wheat, I hate the "Browns" ale, Laws Pineapple Sour and the Don't worry, be hoppy. First up for me was the Laws Belgian Wheat. It was smooth on the front with the wheat flavor coming in at the finish tasting exactly how you would picture a wheat beer. Second was the I Hate the "Browns" Ale. On this beer the carbonation lets itself known from the start before it finishes with a taste that reminded both my wife and myself of a cream ale. Up third for me was the Laws Pineapple Sour. It was a very pineapple forward beer without being super sweet and it had a nice lasting pineapple finish with what I thought was a hint of coconut at the finish. It was Super drinkable and delicious. Last but certainly not least was the Don't Worry Be Hoppy which had a clean start with a hoppy finish. There was nothing crazy about this IPA and sometimes simple is better. Out of all of the beers that I tried here the Laws Pineapple was definitely my favorite and my wife's as well. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. We were going to order a second round of beers but didn't have a chance to. The only time he surprised us was when it was time for the check (which we had to flag him down for) and he finally asked how everything was.... And we had to tell him the chicken in my dish was raw. Why aren't the managers/owners walking around and asking how customers are doing when there are many reviews complaining about service? I watched the management walking around aimlessly acting like they had nothing to do. Bad look guys. Take notes. We received a discount but really we would just like to see the managers doing better with training. Also, the payment method is super awkward. You pay on a portable machine and the server stands there while you decide what their tip is, which is uncomfortable considering the service was poor. The poutine was excellent (fries saved the day). My chicken dish with veggies was great aside from several pieces of chicken being undercooked. Decent beer selection and half off beers during the Steelers game was a nice touch. Who would have thought that just a week later, the Steelers would be playing another night game, and we'd find ourselves back at Coughlin's Law--this time at the location where the beers are brewed. The place is spacious and has a fantastic outdoor area, which I imagine would be great when it's not cold and snowing. Perched on the hillside at the Pointe, it's in a prime spot that's hard to miss. We met up with my brother and nephew here for drinks and appetizers. We shared the chicken nachos, and they were absolutely spectacular. The pizzas looked incredible, so that's definitely on the list for next time. As fans of the movie Cocktail, @winecraft couldn't help but notice the inspiration behind the name "Cocktails and Dreams," seemingly drawn from the iconic 1988 film starring Tom Cruise. This time, though, we finally got to sample a flight of beers. The selection included: I Hate the Browns Ale - A flavorful Brown Ale with a 5.3% ABV. Flanagan's Red Ale - A well-balanced American Amber/Red Ale at 5.1% ABV. Law's Vienna Lager - A smooth Vienna Lager at 5% ABV. Law's Nitro Stout - A creamy Irish Dry Stout with a 4.9% ABV. The space is nice and open with ample seating over two floors, and they're in the process of adding in-house brewing. The pineapple sour beer I had was delicious and our crab rangoon nachos were awesome -- the portion is more than enough for 2 people. I had the Coughlin's burger, which had pork belly, bacon jam, roasted garlic aioli, red cabbage slaw and arugula. It was perfection -- one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. I couldn't finish the potato salad I got with it, but the few bites I had were great. I'd recommend this place to others -- great place for a date night or to watch a game. My wife and I were excited to try this new restaurant new our home. We purchased a gift card from Just Pay Half Pittsburgh which we patronize many local businesses on this app. Wow. What a terrible experience. I have reached out to their feedback site and crickets! Not only were the sandwiches cold with wet buns, the fries and thank goodness the beer was cold to help wash down the meal. On top of that, because I purchased a gift card on the JPH app, the waiter said "we need to charge an automatic 25% tip because the manager said we've had issues with this coupon". The waitress was great but food and customer experience, deserves "no stars" on this rating. In addition, the food prep area, which is visible to the customers, was dirty, and an open bag of Twizzlers was next to the open food for staff. I should have known something was not right when after three minutes of ordering our food, on our way down steps from balcony to use the restrooms, our food was on the way up the steps to our table. Who makes "fresh" sandwiches and fries that fast? Couglin's broke the law with customer expectations. First time here and met a friend for lunch. We arrived shortly after they opened for lunch on a Tuesday and the Mt Nebo Point location. The server was pleasant and attentive and the place only had 2 other tables. I enjoyed a tall IPA but cannot recall which one it was other than it was a filtered IPA which is refreshing in today's world of every IPA being a hazy style. We ordered the pretzel appetizer which came with 3 warm and soft pretzel sticks and a honey mustard and queso sauce. The honey mustard sauce was delicious. I also had a lunch size pizza with pepperoni and it was nice size (8" but seemed slightly bigger) and was cooked perfectly. The sauce and pepperoni were very good. The atmosphere was very inviting and gave an industrial feel with the brewing tanks in a large glass room as you enter the door. We sat outside as the garage doors were open and it was a beautiful day. Overall I would say the experience was great albeit not very busy when we were there but I would certainly visit this restaurant and brewery again. read more

Came in to watch some Saturday night football and try out the food and beer selection at this newer location of the Coughlins we love in Mt Washington. I was instantly surprised with the amount of seating available both downstairs and upstairs. We sat on the backside of the bar and it's worth noting that those seats are up against the retractable wall and it's very cold. Definitely keep your jacket on. I tried their pineapple sour (#14 on the menu, when we were there) and it was delicious and a little coconut-y. I ordered the smoked buffalo chicken dip and was a little disappointed in the amount of chicken. I'd say it was about 25% chicken and 75% other. It was still creamy and had a nice kick, but definitely needed more chicken. The carrots and celery served with it were fresh and crunchy. The chips were interesting with a seasoning that reminded me a little of old bay. Bartenders were friendly and attentive! Will def come back to check out the outdoor seating in the warmer months. read more
