I've moved several times in my life (I'm 65). I hired Burger Brothers to move my 95 year old mother. Dan and his helper Josh showed up on time, packed and wrapped everything professionally, and loaded the truck efficiently. When they arrived at my home, they unloaded the truck quickly. They placed the furniture where it needed to go, they even hung clothing in the closet and put the lamp shades on for me. They were friendly and polite too. Excellent experience! George, Skate, and Josh are an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. While this is my first time hiring movers, I definitely hear horror stories from clients in regards to other moving companies. I am a real estate broker, so I hear a lot of stories about people moving. Anyway, the crew was on time. They checked in with me beforehand to see if they should bring any spare boxes. The move was swift and no items were damaged. Gas and water lines were all taken care of. A true respect for the house and all personal property was shown. One note: I can definitely say I totally underestimated the amount of time it would take to move. We were moving from a small three-bedroom, two-bath house. We didn't have any specialty furniture like pianos or safes. We were only moving about 1 mile and the day took about 8 1/2 hours. I also had my house pretty well boxed up and organized. We hired Burger Bros to move my elderly parents from Camarillo to Oakland. Dan and James Burger really are brothers and they are experienced movers. James came by to do an estimate and it was right in the ball park. On the day of the move, they called before they came to see if we needed any packing materials and to see how we were doing. They arrived with a crew of about 6 to load, checked the details and got to work. They plastic wrapped, blanketed or both each of the large pieces. they loaded carts so they could unload about a dozen boxes at a time. Dan and one other guy drove the truck up to Oakland. Summary: Full courtesy, professionalism, care - my mother, usually a tough customer, was very pleased. I would recommend Burger Brothers to anyone in Ventura county without hesitation. read more

Called for a job involving moving a piano from one residence to another. Have piano description, he asked how many steps I had, city I was in. Then clarified piano had to go up the stairs. Stated, "yeah, we couldn't help you with that, and then hung up on me." Such rude customer service. People who move houses don't have pianos? My 85 year old mom and her 90 year old husband planned to move locally within Ventura. They were referred to Burger Brothers and made all the arrangements themselves. I showed up on the day of the move because I was concerned and wanted to make sure it was a good experience for my mom and stepdad. Dan and his crew of two showed up and did a fantastic job. All three of them were nice, considerate and pleasant. They worked hard, packed everything securely. They treated my Mom and her husband with dignity and respect. When moving the furniture into the new location they took the time to ask where each piece of furniture should go and moved it into position. Sometimes moving it two or three times as my mom changed her mind. I have used movers a few times and this was by far the best experience I have ever had. read more

Scheduled my moving service with Burger Brother a week ago. Two days prior my moving date, I called to re-confirm the time and the arrangement. A guy named James told me that all was set and good to go. Ten minutes later, he called me back and dropped a ball on me telling me that his boss said that they would be moving a hotel instead and had to cancel their moving service on me. Seriously?!? If I didn't call to reconfirm their service, were they planning on just not showing up and left me hanging? Extremely unprofessional, unreliable!!! The worse was that I wasn't notified until 6pm when most of the movers company were closed for the day. They now left me with 24 hours to find another moving company. Less than impressed, we hired these guys to load our trucks for our cross country move. When we arrived to our new home we realized what a mistake that was. For starters they loaded boxes with removable lids on their sides so that once we got under way the lids popped off and the contents of said boxes spilled all over the truck. One of those boxes that they loaded sideways contained all of our Vinegar and cooking oils. So as you would imagine those spilled out all over the place, my wardrobe box full of clothes was completely drenched in sesame seed oil. Now I'm no professional mover or anything but putting a box on it's side that has a unsecured removable lid is something I would NEVER do. The other issue I had was boxes that were clearly marked with UP ARROWS that we drew on the boxes, were loaded with arrows facing down. These guys are less than professional to say the least. Now I have things that need to be professionally laundered so they don't smell like sesame seeds anymore. UPDATE: After we finished unloading our second truck we discovered that they had packed furniture without wrapping it so about half of our furniture was destroyed. Our 1yr old stainless steel refrigerator now has 7 dents and is covered in scratches. After trying to contact them for over two weeks we were finally able to get ahold of them. They are claiming they are not responsible because they didn't drive the trucks, and when asked why half of the furniture wasn't wrapped they claimed they didn't know we had that much stuff so they didn't bring enough packing material. Clearly customer service is not in their business model. read more

I can't believe the experience we just had. We are moving today and these guys showed up and we worried the truck wouldn't fit under a branch and make it up to the house. But instead of calling us and talking to us to try to figure out a solution they just left! And now we're stuck. The other company double-booked and had a broken down truck so could not help me. I will not be using Burger Brothers for my local move in Ventura because of the experience I had getting a quote. The person who answered the phone asked me questions about my inventory, size of house (1000 sq ft), size of storage unit (10x10), and estimated my move to be 3 men/1 truck at $145/hour, and expected it would take two 8-10 hour days or about $3500! Shocked, I asked him to reconsider this quote, as I would be getting other quotes to compare, and I just moved all of these belongings up here from Carlsbad (150 miles away) a year ago for $2000. I also asked if he wanted to come out to look at my house and belongings (which we prefer), but he said that's not what they do for local moves. He argued with me and said he thought my storage unit was 10x15 (not sure if he thinks he's psychic!), which I confirmed it is just 10x10. I said I was uncomfortable with the quote of 3 guys for 2 days, and how could I guarantee they wouldn't drag their feet to rack up hours. He then hung up on me! Soo... he lost my business, and his completely unprofessional behavior is what prompted me to write this review. I feel that he jacked up the price because I was a female, and sadly he thought I didn't have a clue. My boyfriend is calling the remaining movers for quotes (as he's done moving himself in the past so they won't be able to mislead him). So far our experience with the two other moving companies we called has been a night and day difference as compared to Burger Brothers. Thankfully! read more

My elderly mother hired this company to move her. She was quoted a price after walking Dan (one of the owners) through her house. On moving day, brother James showed up. He was pleasant until the paperwork was signed. Once the move began there was nothing but complaints. The two men who accompanied him for the move were great, hard workers, acomodating and polite. They showed up late, and arrived late at the new place. Once at the new place they pretty much dropped stuff inside the front door. When asked to place the furniture in the rooms, the two workers were great, but James was a PITA! , and tried to get more money out of my mom in the end. I'm really not comfortable with the thought of what may have happened if I wasn't there. I told him if he has a beef with the pricing he should take it up with his brother who estimated the job. I am confident that this is a tactic they use to get more money out of people, low-ball the initial price to get the job, and then work the customer later for the additional $$ to make up their real price. My advice, be aware of this, and be there if your elderly relatives are using them. Get everything very detailed in writing on the estimate (pieces of furniture, number of boxes, etc) so you have a legal leg to stand on later. My beef is only with the owners, the workers were really great. read more

I would give this business no stars if it was an option. After having Burger Brothers referred to me, I called the owner Dan Burger 10 days in advance to arrange for moving & use of a storage space. Based on my description over the phone, he determined that I could fit my property in a 10x20 space and quoted me accordingly. Even though he is local, he never took the time to come and check out/confirm what we had in the way of property before the actual moving day (in retrospect, another mover told me they should have done this). Dan, his brother, and one employee showed up on moving day and Dan immediately stated that there was no way we were going to fit all the property in a 10x20 and that we would need to rent a 10x40, raising the price of storage significantly. My wife and I disagreed and tried to negotiate. Dan immediately became insulted, stating that he was the professional and that we were trying a tactic that he had seen many times before. Instead of discussing it with us he hopped in his truck, called to his brother and the employee that they were "out of here", and they drove away. I was left standing there in shock, asking myself what just happened. Regardless of who was right or wrong, I felt what Burger Brothers and Dan Burger did was extremely irresponsible and unprofessional. They knowingly left us in a jam. Luckily, we found another moving company (with which we had a very positive experience) to move us the next day. And in the end, we WERE able to fit our property in a 10x20 storage space - with room to spare! read more
